If you read that was a bill introduced, that never passed.

Try to speak and comment on subject you know about, don't google information.

It's people like you who spread incorrect rumors that hurt Philippine Nurses who try to come here, by giving out false information.

FYI, My wife never worked a day in PI, and she is at work now as a RN...................

Aha, so your feathers do get ruffled when people attacks the wife... that you would resort to insults as expected. Somehow i figured you would say those. Let me Correct You, It may help you in your future career:

Two common myths that float around in PI regarding being a PI trained nurse and working in USA.

1.) You don't need to take NLE (Local Licensing Exam in PI), before you can sit for NCLEX. Only like 4 states out of 50 states in USA require a NLE before NCLEX can be taken.

2.) You don't need any work experience before you can work as a nurse in USA.

These are 2 very common myths that float around in PI. If you ever have question about getting licenses in USA, You can read each states website rearding Nursing, and plus you can always call them.

tallcoolone: Oh? I didnt know # 2... very interesting. But nah smile.gif, thats not what i meant. The PH government wont let you work in foreign soil unless you served as a nurse for 2 years in PH first. Theres a government agency in PH that prevents professionals including RNs/nursing aids from leaving without serving their country first. Its like CFO for K1. You can look it up if you want. Its all i could find, *sigh* too lazy to google right now... id rather play l4d. smile.gif

Let me correct you some:

Age 18 - 21 needs Parental Consent, 22 to 24 needs Parental Advisement - If I remember correctly.

Being a Lawyer or Doctor and coming to USA doesn't do you much good in USA. You basically go back to sqaure 1 with those degrees in USA.

Accreditation Office - Are you trying say to get her College Transcripts Evaluated to see if her degree in PI is comparable to same degree in USA, if so That was taken care of when she was still in PI, I had it evaluted by CGNFS before she ever stepped foot on US Soil.

I agree there is nothing wrong with working Wal Mart or Grocery Store, But for me and my personal goals it doesn't fall into what I am looking for in a lifetime partner......

tallcoolone: Yeah, true. I was missing that term "parental advice"... it was in the back of my mind. However to prove parental advice, it has to be written and signed by both parents. *shrugs* Legalities....

Oh i didnt know your wife is an RN. NCLEX and CGNFS does fix that. Good for her she doesnt have to go thru all of that. Not that i mind going back to school... its fun... i could always go for certifications... which is faster.

Had work or working in a grocery store shouldnt be basis in choosing a life partner. Such jobs teaches humility.

I have to say... not with prejudice. Your wife is smarter than you. Are you aware that if she hadnt married you to go to US, she'd still be in the philippines earning 2 years experience before she could practice in foreign soil?

smile.gif

PhilippinesAge difference between Filipinas and americans (Poll)
Oh to be fair to someone's comment about "marry a filipina or filipino who is 25 years old or above" earlier. In the philippines, the age considered by law as the rightful age to marry is 25 years old. Before that, one needs parents' consent. It is so as there is no divorce in the Philippines. If we get married outside of our country, we are required to report our marriage to the Philippines embassy or consulate. Although i dont think age matters, emotional and mental maturity and readiness to commit to marraige is more important..... but those "usually" comes with age. smile.gif

tallcoolone:
And oh theres nothing with working in Walmart or any grocery store. Its a good decent paying job. I dont know about your wife finding any job she wants considering the economy right now.... not that i belittle your wife... i hope her the best as a fellow filipina. Its just that your claims are unfounded. She is under 25 years old. She isnt a lawyer or a doctor. Its likely that she finished college... prolly a 2 year masters degree (hmm?!). Im sure you do know that she has to go to an accreditation office in here to gauge her college credits on how much that diploma is worth in the US. But even so, she just lacks the years of necessary experience.

You need a fast connection.
You will be disappointed if you have dial up and not at least DSL. Broadband is best.
Downloading a large test file via torrent is not an accurate test. Magic Jack uses a priority router system of their own.... so your test will not go through the same path. It will only verify your ISP is capable of fast rates.

I cannot say enough good things! It has saved me hundreds of dollars!

If you have a modem-router (thats a gateway), you dont need a modem or another router. Most modem-router have multiple ethernet ports. Maybe it has wireless capability na.

Pero kung ako dude, i would have a separate modem, wireless router and voice gateway... para dali lang pag-isolate kung may sira sa network. Yung mga 2-in-1 kasi, kung sira ang isa... sira na lahat :/.

I can suggest... WCG200 ng linksys. Its a wireless modem router. Madali lang i-configure smile.gif.

Ping,
Router (gateway) pala. My bad! blush.gif

Half true. smile.gif

Let me explain (trivia trivia tayo). This will be useful when you go to US coz its a must to have a broadband connection in the US. You wanna know what you are dealing with so the ISPs wont cheat you. (Not trying to be a smart a$$.)

Modem - Its the device that your ISP will give you which allows you to connect to them coz most ISPs (especially cable) they register the mac address (ID) of the modem. If its DSL, its thru a phone line (RJ11 cables). If its cable, its thru coax (those round and fat cables at the back of your TV). The modem will only allow internet connection to ONE computer.

Router - This is NOT a modem. Its a common mistake. I dont blame you, they look the same. This doesnt connect you to your ISP. It doesnt have an RJ11 port so you cant connect it to the phone jack nor does it have a jack for the coax cable. You have to plug in the router to the modem. This simply shares the internet connection from the modem to 2 or MORE COMPUTERS. This allows you to have a local network (2 or more computers connected to each other).

Gateways - They are pathways. It either allows voice transmission thru internet as the case with voice gateways. Or from public network (internet thru modem) to local or private network (your computers) as the case with cable/dsl gateways.

Now heres where it gets tricky. There are gateways that has router capabilities.

Modem + router = cable/dsl gateway ---> Its a modem and router in one. That means you can plug in 2 or more computers (depending on how many ethernet ports it has).

Router + Voice gateway = VOIP routers ---> Its a router and voice gateway in one. You need to plug this into the modem so it can go online. You can plug in 2 or more computers (depending on how many ethernet ports it has). And if you have a VOIP subscription, you can plug in the phone too.

*** I didnt know JoseRizal is a dude. Haha i thought you just like Jose Rizal. tongue.gif

Ria: Sorry, im not trying to take over your thread. Im just bored. smile.gif

No. Broadband is needed. It's similar to Vonage but differs in the ff:
1. It passes through a PC unlike Vonage which has it's own modem
2. It has an annual subscription fee (around $20) whereas Vonage has a monthly subscription fee of $25

JoseRizal: Im searching online where i can get it cheaper than that wink.gif. Its not a modem actually. Your Internet Service Provider gives you the modem. Vonage will give you a "voice gateway". Its a device that allows transmission of voice over internet protocol. smile.gif

I looked at this and while it's promising it requires broadband... which my fiancee does not have (well, or a computer). Can I get magic jack with a manila phone number so that she can call using her cell or whatever local line is available without having extra fees (is local calling in the philippines part of a standard fee or is that usage based, it'd be nice to be able to spend more time talking on the phone)?

maliciant: I am not sure if you can get a philippine country code and area code. I havent figured that out yet. With vonage, you can only get numbers from US, Canada and some European countries. The whole purpose of this is get the same country code and area code as to whomever you call or calls you often . That way, either of you can call each other free of charge. Its just like landline to landline.

Actually if you use a mobile phone in here to call another mobile phone or land line... it will use up her credits if its prepaid or eat her minutes if its post paid. Landline to landline is unlimited though.

Ria: Yeah i gotcha coz you plug in a regular phone in the magic jack wink.gif. Ill explain it to you in laymans term hehe.

You have modem (for your cable or dsl connection) or a patch (if you have a wireless connection like SmartBro). Your computer is plugged into the modem where it gets its internet connection. Magic Jack is kinda like a jump drive that you plug into the computer's usb port.

So its like: modem ----> computer ----> Magic Jack ----> regular phone

(unless you have a router then its gonna be a different story)

The source of your internet connection is the modem. Since the computer comes first before the Magic Jack... that means if the computer loses internet connection.... the Magic Jack wont work. So its possible that if the computer is massively sending and receiving information thru the internet.... it might slow down the connection of the Magic Jack. It will still have a dial tone BUT its choppy... but thats temporary and minor. You just need to close all browsers (internet explorer, firefox, opera...etc)... and exit any downloading engine (like utorrent, bittorrent, limewire.... etc). And its back to normal.

Ill try to find it here so i can test it too. Weeeeee i have a new toy.

Try downloading a movie thru utorrent or any huge file in bittorrent and check if the quality of the line fluctuates... if it gets choppy(?)... coz its internet based. Its connected to the computer, its somehow dependent on the computer's internet usage... they are sharing bandwidth.

(Kulit ko no?!)

OH WOW its cheaper than Vonage. We have to pay $239.99 for their Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan. Before that it was $24.99 per month. THIS is just $19.95 per month. blink.gif wow.gif

Its the same concept, you need a broadband connection, unlimited calls to US/Canada and you can pick any US area code. Except the voice gateway is a LOT smaller and you connect it to the computer's usb port.

Vonage's voice gateway is connected directly to the modem (thru ethernet ports). Both the computer (ethernet port) and phone (RJ11) are both plugged in to the voice gateway.

Whaaaaa i am amazed! Im going to get that for my family when i move to TX. I thought of leaving the Vonage voice gateway but they dont know how to configure it or set it up *scratches her head*.

Oh sorry.... im rambling hehe. This excite me! Its a must buy! (Parang ahente ako no hahaha)

For comparison: Magic Jack - http://www.magicjack.com/1/index.asp
Vonage - http://www.vonage.com/

For those who doesnt know: THESE are PHONES that uses broadband (cable or DSL) internet connection instead of a regular phone line.
