Philippinesimmunizations and cost and at St Luke's
Doctors at St. Lukes will determine what vaccine she'll need and they will administer it (included w/ the $100 Medical Exam Fee) so no need to worry about that.

PhilippinesSSS ID?

If you apply for passport, tell them the reason: "tourist" and not for K-1 or immigrant/non-immigrant visa application. At DFA-Manila, they will require CFO Seminar Counseling Certificate for Spouses and Fiance's of Foreign Nationals, so that will take more time for her.

I applied at DFA-Manila and they only asked for my BC and 2 ID (with pictures)-> I have a company ID and PRC ID, so that was not a problem. But in Manila, they accepts NBI as ID since there's a picture and personal info. If you also know a Travelling agency, they can also apply and help you with your passport. Since new applicants needs a "personal appearance", they will accompany you at DFA, then they will be the one to process and follow it up, and you just have to wait and pick it up with them. The usual renewal/new applications through travel agencies ranges from p900-1200. If you apply directly to DFA, it will cost p750 (for rush, within 3 days).

If possible, let her go alone there, so they will not ask for a CFO seminar certificate, since she is a Fiancee of a foreign National. Since she will also need that Certificate from CFO before she leaves the Philippines, she can also do that at this time, if she wants.

Good luck and I hope there will be no more hassles when she applies for a passport in Manila.

oh yeah dont forget the NBI Clearance (For travel abroad) they asked for this too. You may want to bring old school records just in case.

PhilippinesSSS ID?

First off who is Charlie? LOL I went the first time with her and we got turned way at the door because I had shorts on and she had a sleeve less shirt on, so we went and changed and went back, we were there 6 hours the next time and the lady said she needed a old id or sss id. We explained to her about her old school records but she said that she needs old id older than 2 years with picture or sss id. Its been a totalk nitemare so far and now Im on week #6 and nothing from vermont. makes me want to puke at times.

hi LARRY!

thats the effect of being with the laptop for almost 5 hours straight!
anyway, dont go with Jen for this passport application...well, we dont know why these poeple is making hard for you guys..

tell jen, bring all her identifications (NBI, Voters ID, Postal ID, Authenticated Birth Certificate etc.) and visit DFA in Manila..
People in clark must have been familiar with jen's face, that they knew why jen is getting her passport..for the K1 application..

so, tell Jen..try DFA Manila..bring all these identifications..tell jen to inform DFA Manila that shes getting her passport for work application in abroad - period. By the way, tell her to bring this paper from SSS that she recently applied for it.

maybe this thing will work..while waiting for that SSS ID..
this is just a suggestion..if you guys are open to try some ways to have a passport.

i hope this will help,
alexandra

to OP.. i don't remember people in DFA manila asking me for SSS id or older id's.. got mine 2 years ago, and all they asked for are my birth certificate and 2 recent id, which i showed them my driver's license and company id and they asked me to have it photocopied.... and u can have the passport shipped anywhere for minimal fee... as per alexandra's advice, you may want to try DFA manila

It's been over 2 weeks and nothing... should I call them back? What's the best way to talk to a competent person?

Hey, rudyzn, I don't know if anyone answered to your post.

I am sorry you are in this situation. Did you tell the Embassy about your wife's pregnancy and child? Could she not be somehow automatically included in your wife's file after birth? :/ This seems very stupid if there is no way to add a newborn baby somehow faster...

I do not know what you should do, but I would definitely talk to a Tier 2 officer if you call USCIS. I would also contact the local Embassy and let them know of the situation. Worst case scenario, maybe they could issue a new visa for your wife (after a new medical I would assume) so that your wife can enter the US later than Jan 2014?

Good luck, let us know what happened!

BOS_LHR is not overseas.

I don't think I understood you properly. You are in the US and your wife is overseas, but the petition will not get transferred? Who is the petitioner? If you are and you are in the US, then that's the "normal" case where petitions were sent to local field offices this past year.

Do you want me to add you to the list?

I checked the goal processing time page today, and that was finally updated with June data as well. The "national average" was 13.3 months as of end of May; as of end of June, it is 9.5 months. It's probably meaningless, but I feel better seeing it drop all the same smile.png

I noticed this too! I was gonna post about it, but then I saw how many posts I had already written and decided to stop :D

Yay! Let's keep it going down. :D

US Citizenship General DiscussionDV Lottery & IR-1 - different wait for filing for citizenship?
Hi,

I am married to a USC and I entered DV-2014. The idea was that, if selected, I might skip the USCIS and go straight to NVC to save some money (time is obviously not an issue here since I am doing my MA at home).

I figured that, being married and living with a USC for three years since entering the US, I could file for citizenship in three years.

Citizenship Through Naturalization:

You May Qualify for Naturalization if:

  • You have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements, please visit our Path to Citizenship page for more information.
  • You have been a permanent resident for 3 years or more and meet all eligibility requirements to file as a spouse of a U.S. citizen, please visit our Naturalization for Spouses of U.S. Citizens page for more information.
  • You have qualifying service in the U.S. armed forces and meet all other eligibility requirements. Visit the Military section of our website.
  • Your child may qualify for naturalization if you are a U.S. citizen, the child was born outside the U.S., the child is currently residing outside the U.S., and all other eligibility requirements are met. Visit our Citizenship Through Parents page for more information.

However, I was told last week that is not the case. A lady at my U.S. Embassy that processes immigrant visas told that if I enter via DV, I would have to wait five years to file for citizenship and that the fact that I was married to a US citizen would not apply to me because he did not petition for me.

I did read this about Naturalization for Spouses of U.S. Citizens and I did not find it written anywhere that it matters how I entered the country, as long as I was holding my GC legaly.

Did I miss something? Was I informed correctly at the Embassy?
:help:

US Citizenship General DiscussionTo become a citizen or not.

From what I found out with a quick Google search, China does not accept dual citizenship.

I don't have any advice for your question though, sorry. All I can say is that it is a long time from now and you can jump that bridge once you get to it. She can be in the US forever with a Green Card, so if she wants to keep her citizenship, she can. You will see how she feels in 3-5 years and if at some time she changes her mind and wants a US citizenship, she can request it. There is only time limit on the minimum amount of time spent as a LPR, not maximum. Good luck with your process. :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionShould i take a Citizenship class to prepare ?

If you would feel safer, go for it.

I don't think it is necessary though. From what I have read, you get all the questions they could ask you (total of 100) from them and then you have to answer to six out of 10 correctly to pass. Personally, I would take it if the class went a little bit more in depth on U.S. history and political/legal system out of curiosity and interest, but not because of those 100 questions.

Ivy.FemaleCroatia2013-06-25 16:26:00
US Citizenship General DiscussionTriple Citizenship?

Regarding this and multiple citizenships, I have a problem with the oath.

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

The bolded parts. I know that I can omit the God reference if I do not believe (great), but I don't want to say I renounce my Croatian allegiance. It would not automatically revoke my citizenship for me, as there is paperwork included if one wishes to do that, but this statement would be false... and the idea of lying while giving an oath makes no sense to me. :/

Does one have to say that first part? Could one just promise to support/defend the US Constitution, without renouncing their other "prince, potentate, state or sovereignty"? And, if one asks these questions during the interview, will they be automatically rejected? :D

US Citizenship General DiscussionCan I change my last name to a celebrity ?

Isn't that the reason why they offer the option to change your name? in fact, in the naturalizarion n-400 guide, says that the option to change your name is offered for people who want to adopt a more americanized name

This normally means that if your name is ?imi?, you might wanna change it to Simic. ;) I am 100% white, my last name is Spanish, but Americanized (it should be Gutiérrez, but it is Gutierrez). The fact that my last name does not match my skin tone should not mean anything to anyone (in my opinion).

Anyway, whatever reason you have, you can change your name without justifying it to us or anyone else. Personally, I like Frost as last name. My friend uses it. It is not common, it is easy to read/spell/type on any keyboard and it has a nice ring to it.

Good luck with picking!

CanadaDo I have to be MOVING when I activate our Visas?
I think the easiest thing would be to delay the interview. I know you said you do not want to do that, but honestly, that seems like the safest thing to do.

You can travel (and do) freely without any problems and the Embassy will surely understand. I was told at my Embassy that we could adjust my interview date based on my expected graduation date and that would not be a problem at all (as long as I do not do my medical exam too early).

And regarding these questions, maybe you could email US Border Patrol? I emailed them at O'Hare with a question whose answer was not listed in FAQ and got an answer within a day. That would be the best source of information and if you choose not to delay your interview and get an answer saying you could travel without activating your visas, you can print it and bring it with you on your trip. That's what I plan to do anyways, in case I get an officer that is not familiar with my situation.

Good luck! :star:

Yeah, we submitted I130 as well, but only at the end of June.

Visa Journey predicts based on member's timelines (please fill yours in if you do not mind) that we might be approved by the end of November. The official statistics from USCIS say it takes 6-8 months for I130 to process, though, so based on that our I130 should be approved between Christmas and Valentine's day.

Don't know what to do since I really don't have anyone to co-sponser for us. Should I just wait little bit to have more money save in my bank account?

Family: Just me and him so that's 2
My current income is: $13,969.44
My assets (bank savings): $20,348.20 (which increasing every month with my pay)

Hi,

according to the information I have 125% of 2014 poverty guidelines for two people is: $19,663.

You have $13,969.44 in income and another 6782.73 from your bank savings (assets of petitioner are counted at 1/3 value, according to VJ Wiki). That puts you at 20,752.17 total. That should be enough based on this math, but if you were already informed you do not meet the requirements, you really need a co-sponsor. :(

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

My case was transferred to California on January 31st. That's the last I hear.

Did your case get transferred ?

How long did you wait after it being transferred ?

I am sorry to hear about your slow progress, especially since California is supposed to be the speedy service center! My file was transfered right after Christmas to Nebraska and it took a little bit under three months to get NOA2. It took cca 2.5 months to get their RFE. You can see more details about my case in the profile or my timeline.

Best of luck to you! I this week brings you good news!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFOIA Response from USCIS - Re Transfers of I-130

It might help you to be less spiteful (It might help you read my timeline better as well). You have no idea what my mindset is so I would appreciate you not suggest how I should feel. I can care less what you find amusing, I have posted this here for people who have had the worst of this process and those who want to make a difference by understanding the inner workings of this opaque process and try to change it. There are many members who have done just that and continue to do so.

I have been supportive and understanding of everyone who's had it worse than me; my inquiry was initiated during the time when I saw how unfairly the Nebraska and Texas service centers were fairing compared to California.

In any case, if all you want do is belittle someone else, I suggest you find something better to do.

Spiteful implies malice, whereas I had none. Jealous, perhaps, but definitely not spiteful.

I do apologize for mistaking your file as September to February, when it was August to February. I am used to the European way so that was an honest mistake. As for belittling you, I really don't think telling someone to "Be happy" is belittling them.

Anyways, kudos for posting the file. I am sure many people will find it interesting.

I see you submitted your I-130 in September and were approved in 5 months. It took us 9 months to get approved.

You got an interview date last Friday. We are still waiting for our NVC number to be assigned.

I find it pretty amusing that you had "times of frustration" that resulted in "multiple inquiries". :D As far as I can tell, everything is happening pretty fast in your case. Sure, share the file (there are many free file hosting services online), but I would just like to remind you of how lucky you were. Be happy. :)

Ivy, I'm so glad you are finally here at the NVC!

Sukie

Hey, Sukie! It's nice to see you again!

I believe they can be sent in one package as long as they are clearly marked AOS and IV - I am sure someone on VJ can offer some guidance here. I sent mine as two packages because I got my AOS one done first. I fretted over sending my IV package as it contained my original birth cert and marriage cert which I am just so annoyed about sending but I had no choice unfortunately.

I figured, since I will be sending them from abroad, save on shipping and do one. Mental noting that we need to clearly mark them, no problem. I do not mind waiting a bit to pay both things if it cuts down significantly on cost of shipping.

I am not sure if anyone already responded. Then this might be a duplicate. Assigning someone as Agent is optional. Normally the beneficiary (overseas) assigns the petitioner (in US). But you do not have to. And also you do not have to mail the documents (AOS and IV packages) from a US address. They can be mailed from overseas, just fine. Use a reliable shipper like DHL etc.

After you give NVC the two email addresses (Petitioner and Beneficiary) they will be sending everything by email to both of you. As far as I can tell there are no snail mails.

Another point. Once you receive your Case # and IIN, you do not even have to wait to receive their emails. You just log in to the CEAC website and complete the business there (DS261, Paying AOS fees, then later Paying IV fees, DS260). The payment of these two fees must come out of US bank accounts. But that can be done from overseas, too.

Best wishes on the arrival of your baby. This is certainly an excellent news.

If I misspoke on any of this, I would like someone to correct me, please.

I got a couple of answers already, but I appreciate you taking the time to answer as well. Hearing things from multiple sources helps me calm down about the whole thing and memorize what to do. We will try to do this as fast as possible since I would LOVE to be able to get a late June interview date. I doubt we will make it though :(
