Yep, she's said it a few times but NEVER to a congressman! I love my whole family of outspoken, patriotic, loving, kind, and protective in laws :D They have quite the turn of phrase, shall we say :)

Is it bad that as I read what you wrote, I imagined the Lion King movie and Timon and Pumba singing that? Posted Image

Only if it's also bad that I had it in my head as I typed it (which is why it went into the post :P )

She has the appointement at 1hpm but she is currently at the hospital getting a referral and later will go get the letter

That sounds like a very good plan on her part! I will pray it goes well for her. Are you calling NVC today to see if they have any interviews available for you? If you are - prayers your way too...

Morning!!

Still do not have an interview email.

Right now my head feels :bonk: and I don't feel like calling NVC or DoS at the moment.

I woke up with a migraine, got the kidlets off to school, popped a pill and went back to bed for four hours. Still don't feel the greatest, but better than before.

BOOOOOOO to all of the above!!!!!! :( I hope your head feels better soon :(

Everyone say it will me.. Hakuna Matata! We're going to have a day like yesterday, lots and lots and lots of good news all around!!

Hakuna matata...what a wonderful phrase...it means no worries....for the rest of your days :D

It's a problem free philosophy, don't ya know? :D

That's awesome that you're starting to see it! Do NOT get disheartened, if you do, then things will fall apart. Wouldn't you rather have an expedite approval? If so, imagine those good feelings, and all the good emails you're going to get, and it WILL happen! Get excited cause an approval is coming your way ;)

;) I'll see what I can do :D I'm still laughing - my mother in law told the congressman that we're all being treated like mushrooms (kept in the dark and fed manure - and yes, she said that part too! :D I LOVE my mother in law!!)

That's it!! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

So, I want you to close your eyes, imagine getting an email from NVC, saying your expedite was approved. That your case is being sent to Montreal as we speak. Imagine getting another email, saying your interview is for May. Imagine talking to Trav about the excellent news. Imagine telling your entire supportive family that your expedite was approved and your interview is in May. Imagine coming onto the forums and telling us the amazing news. Imagine Sheeshka's awesome emoticons in response! Can you feel the excitement now? Are you feeling good? :)

Oddly, I can see those emails without even closing my eyes - been so disheartened to this point that I didn't want to get excited but I am starting to feel more hopeful, yes :D I can SEE Trav's reaction without even visualizing it - and those emoticons...wow, lol :) We'll work on keeping this feeling :)

...and I have to say, you should have SEEN his mom's letter to congress...that's one unhappy lady! :o

Expedite approval at the end of the week :D

Expedite approval...expedite approval...expedite approval...end of week, end of week, end of week....got it! :D

That's awesome!!!

It IS true... i had no clue until after i got married and even then, i thought the USCIS step was the only step... silly me for not reading more into it at the time... and most people don't know that there is a process to coming here legally... the ones that have an idea, don't think it takes as long as it does... my mom was telling me that back when she filed a petition for my dad ~26 years ago, that it was just one petition she filed, submitted a bank statement, he had his interview, and he was here after only 2 months!!! talk about simple and quick!!! lol... i was telling her of all the stages there are now, the number of forms to fill, all the other documents and paperwork to submit, and then all the fees and she couldn't believe it... times have changed ALOT!!! my dad thought i was doing something wrong with the filing because it was taking longer than a couple of months...LOL

Wow...that's all it took for your mom?!?! :( Actually, an ex boyfriend's mother was so sure it should be easier too. She said "silly girl, why go to the trouble? I have an unused green card - want mine?" I could only laugh :)

...you'll get there. Your wife's in with the doc today, right? Send your prayers up for her today, and call NVC and DOS a couple times instead of worrying - it's in God's hands now and action is more effective than worrying.

... hence the sometimes intolerant comments I see sometimes in response news articles discussing immigration, legal or illegal. Many people never think that one day THEY may be a stranger in someone else's country!

I agree - there are some risks not worth taking, because the consequences of failure are SO dire and FINAL. It's really best to try to prepare, present the best case you can, and settle down for the long haul knowing that the process won't last forever.

Posted Image

How true is this! It never made sense to me, how people could be so intolerant and cruel. If we all think about it, I'd say 99 percent of us had ancestors who immigrated at one point or another - and yet so many people can be unable at the same time to look past their own immediate lives. In a lot of ways, today's society is very "me me me, now now now"...it's sick.

And you're exactly right - some risks are NOT worth taking. Preparation is key.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - April 2012

LOL, so true. My mom knows someone who had a daughter-in-law from Brazil who was pregnant. They decided that the visa process was going to take too long and they wanted her to give birth in the US so they snuck her through the border with Mexico. I would never take that risk because I wouldn't want to have the threat of my wife and step-daughter being deported at any moment, not to mention it can be dangerous to make an illegal crossing into the US from Mexico.

WOW...that's a huge risk to take with a pregnant person! The dangers are real, and I'm sure they're far worse than what we read about in the news too. I'd say there's something to be said for doing this process, surviving it, and being fully able to live as a free permanent resident/citizen - with no fear of deportation unless you get stupid! It may take a long time, it may be painful, but being able to live a fully normal life with our spouses at the end is a huge plus!
Trav&ShellFemaleCanada2012-04-11 08:43:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - April 2012

I also have a supportive extended family and every time I see one of them they want to know when my wife and step-daughter will be here. They are always shocked when I tell them what we have gone through and what we have yet to go through to complete the immigration process. The average USC has no idea what it takes to legally immigrate to this country.

I hope you are able to get through the remaining steps very soon so that you can finally be with your significant other.

Isn't that true?! When I started dating Trav, he had friends who would just say "oh, just come down here, get married and don't go back - that's all you need to do." Yeah, that's all you need to do if you figure you look good in prison gear awaiting deportation!

I love my in-laws. After Riley yelled at me on Monday, they all got spurred into action. It seems they are ALL writing letters to the congressman about the inappropriate behavior of some NVC ops, and the errors in our file causing delays. Doesn't matter if nothing comes of any of the letters...it's nice to feel like so many wonderful people have your back :D

Even though we all know congressman/senators can't 'expedite' a case, they can poke and prod USCIS/NVC and make them hurry it along a little bit.

I have no doubt that we'd still be in a black hole at CSC if my congressman hadn't done something.

I wonder if the poking and prodding could potentially help them move along an already submitted expedite request - after all, I did copy the congressman on my original expedite request too :D (CYA, baby :D ) Coincidentally, it also turns out that the letter NVC gave the congressman was part of the expedite request - the name and address errors were not only evident on my file, they were included in the letter NVC wrote the congressman...good job, NVC!

I leave it now to God, he started and he will finish. He knows my whole life better than i and can see what my poor eyes can not see and understand what i can t or will never understand. One thing i know is that God never let me down. He has been in control in my life since the beginning. Sometimes i want something so bad and i do not have it, i complain. Later i found out if i had it, it would do me wrong

LOL thanks :) I try to be funny because if I didn't, my husband and I would go nuts lol. The congressman was a lot quicker than we'd expected, actually - we're keeping fingers crossed that the senator is someone who lights fires under people's butts for a living, and that they help you fast!

***side note: is it just me or does anyone ELSE notice the amount of NVC error issues there are right about now? Is this normal? If it is, I think they may want to return the useless monkeys they have working for them now, and hire on a more elite breed...just sayin'

mhmm..the last operator hubby talked to also said we can now request again for an expedite, but now "expedite" sounds more like code for gimme-more-delays-please. yeah right we're gonna fall for that one again

@Saylin, this is one long messy muddy home stretch! but yes you're right I'm just being fed up and whiny

Woooow...yeah, it does sound like that! I've got the same fears going on - feels like throwing more papers into a black hole right? One that you'll never come out of? LOL...did you talk to your husband's congressman/senator?
Trav&ShellFemaleCanada2012-04-16 16:33:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - April 2012

we've BEEN telling them what they did wrong each time we caught it: the case number/consulate, the EP optin, the ds-261, the expedite request, the ds-260, etc. depending on whom we talked to and I guess depending on the color of the sky that day, some supervisors were more willing than others to admit what they did wrong. one of them denied there were any errors at all. our luck with the nvc is so crappy that it's almost funny cus they even screwed up on our expedite request a few weeks back, which caused the held up on our ds-261, etc etc.

Wow...that's not ok. How can they screw up an expedite request?!?! That's pretty much "receive it, send it to embassy"...just wow...
Trav&ShellFemaleCanada2012-04-16 16:22:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - April 2012

update: hubby got mad and called nvc again and spoke to an operator since supervisors leave work early. turned out that they messed up our package from the beginning (started with assigning us to the wrong consulate, etc) and they never checked our EP optin, so no one checked our ds260 package. this operator said he can see a few errors by nvc in our file and he will flag it to a supervisor's attention. he said when we call back tomorrow and get a status update from a supervisor, we'll be able to get an interview date right away if they completed the case by then, because our case is now out of regular processing time frame.

based on our 66 phone correspondences with NVC to date, the above sounds too positive to be true..for one, supervisors won't ever admit nvc did anything wrong. anywaysss, back to waiting. dont ever wanna call nvc ever again.

...wow. Your case sort of sounds like mine, only I caught the errors and told THEM what they did wrong. That's how I got expedited, actually - because they messed up and I found it. I thought I read a news article somewhere actually, that was reporting on the number of NVC errors in recent months...anyone else seen this?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - April 2012

Honestly, i do not have any problem leaving because my wife is much more important than everything, i am just wondering how i am gonna tell them i am definitely leaving. They know my wife is living in the US but they never ask me if she has started any process to have me come and live with her. They know she is pregnant.. anyways i do not think there will be a problem since they know that the Baby needs to be born in my presence not behind me

Well, what I've done is simple. We prepared the documents for Canadian and US immigration, and my boss is fully aware that if US immigration stalls out and isn't done by July, Trav's coming here. They also know, though, that we've had our expedite approved and that means that I'm basically "on call" in terms of the interview - whenever they tell me to go, I go, no questions (and it's probably going to be quick). I've kept them as informed as I can, but they know we're hoping to get me down there because of his schooling, so they know that the Canadian immigration's really a last resort.

In your case, all you can do is just tell them when the time comes. Keep them informed of what they need to know - tell them when you go to the interview, tell them if you have anything else come up, but keep talking to them. Keep it friendly. Give as much notice as you can, but do it as soon as your interview is done and you have your visa in hand. If they ask why, just tell them that - your wife is far more important than anything to you. And you're right - if you don't think there will be much problem, then you should be just fine! Honest communication is key :)

WOW...your boss must like the way you work! That's really awesome :) And yet...it sucks to leave a job that pays everything you needed it too LOL! I don't know how you're going to do that when you have to leave - that's the hardest part isn't it? "Sorry, gotta go - bye!" :)

Not the company's heads, only close friends

Oh ok...I know, it can be a tough thing to tell the company heads. I was terrified to tell my human resources manager! Figured I'd get fired because I was planning on moving a year or so after becoming a permanent employee. When I did, my human resources manager was surprisingly approachable - and even agreeable to me saying "I will need to take a week off for my medical appointment because I have to travel, and I'll need time off for my interview, but I do have the vacation time banked for it...I don't know when I'll be going yet though, and oh yeah, my requests are pretty much non-negotiables...even at month end - SORRY!" :)
