Otherwise your first sign of approval is when you receive a letter from USCIS saying you're approved. That usually shows up 3-5 days - 2 weeks before the card itself. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 November 2011 Filers	My GC showed up in the mail yesterday! Woo! Besides the card design itself, several aspects of it are very different than when I received my 2-year GC: The envelope, for starters. It was sent in a 6"x9" USPS flat rate envelope, with a big window in the right half and a small window for the return address in the top left. The only thing showing through the small window was Laguna Niguel, CA, and a zip code. No external indication at all that the envelope came from USCIS at all, which is probably an important security measure, given how valuable a 10-year GC would be to some people. I wonder if they send the 2-year GCs this way now too? The I-797D mailer inside has been completely redesigned. It's an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper folded only once, in half, to fit in the envelope. The older mailer was a light cardboard stock with a die-cut set of slots in it, with the card passed through it. The new mailer is a much lighter stock, more like medium bond paper (lighter than the normal I-797 NOA watermark stock). The GC is stuck to it by a sticky blob, the way credit cards are, instead of being put in slots in the paper. The text seems to have been nontrivially reworked, but I didn't compare it in detail. The card itself feels a little thinner and lighter. If you've not seen pictures of the new design, the picture is now black and white (they let me smile at biometrics, and it's actually a pretty good picture of me. Too bad I won't be able to keep it after I get my citizenship! The entire package, in fact gives the distinct impression that it's had significant cost-cuttign measures applied to it. The little protective envelope that comes with the card is a much more rigid material than the almost vellum-type material the old envelope was. I couldn't tell at first, but the edge has worn a bit and you can see that there's a layer of foil in it, which is what allows it to protect against long distance RFID readers scanning the chip inside the card. The other materials in the envelope are the same as what I got with my 2-year GC - a folded piece of cardboard that was holding the little protective envelope, and the Welcome to the US brochure for Permanent Residents. Boy it feels good to have this step all finished and done with! Now begins the wait for citizenship eligibility, which for me begins on September 13, the day after my 3rd wedding anniversary. I've got the fee saved up and set aside already, and I've got this years tax transcript already ordered, so I'm already well on the way! Good luck everybody! Yours are coming real soon now! Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 November 2011 Filers	"NOA1" is local jargon for the first I-797 Notice of Action letter USCIS send you when you file a form with them. For Removal of Conditions, your NOA1 was your Extension Letter. "Early Bio" next to a person's entry means that the person went to the USCIS office to do their biometrics appointment several days or weeks before their officially assigned biometrics appointment date. Some people decide to try this because it is inconvenient to get to their local USCIS office and they don't want to make an extra trip, or because they will be out of town on the official appointment day, etc. Some local USCIS offices allow people to do their biometrics appointment on a walk-in basis - many do not. The CSC is only just now starting to get around to processing November 2011 I-751 filers. Your timeline is perfectly normal. Also, it is perfectly normal to see no updates or touches on the case, and for it to stay in Initial Review, until the Card Production Ordered email. I don't think it matters, vartanarsen2, you are in the system. I was never asked for the stamped bio notice ever again. I think the odds of them totally losing your record of proper attendance at your bio appointment is very very slim. You should be totally fine. It indicates a proper approval date of March 28th, so I've updated the list and my timeline appropriately. The letter itself is typewritten [Courier font] on normal white paper. It includes my A#, but without the "A" in front of it - just the nine digits thusly: ###-###-###. It includes the correct decision date, which in this case is one day before the 2 card production ordered emails were sent. It includes the classification symbol IF1 [Immigrant Family 1] that will replace the classification on my previous GC, which was CF1 [Conditional Family 1]. The text in the middle is very similar to the boilerplate on the AOS approval notice, although that one was printed on I-797 secure watermarked paper stock. They may be attempting to save money by minimizing their use of the obviously expensive heavy secure paper. Between the "Sincerely" and the "MARK J HAZUDA" lines, there is a stamp of Mr. Hazuda's signature,, that says, under the signature itself, "NSC DIRECTOR". Not CSC, which is where I filed. Interesting. The address for the USCIS office in Salt Lake City is obsolete, they just moved to a fancy new building fairly recently [A few weeks before I did RoC biometrics, in fact.] On the back, on the bottom right hand corner, oriented vertically, is the handwritten, in black pen, initials "BD". I just realized when we went in for fingerprints on Dec 14, 2011, we walked out empty-handed....no record that we went.....did this happen to anyne else ?? I I don't want them to screw up and say that we never came in for fingerprints The biometrics notice says to bring the notice to the appointment. Both times I've gone (for AOS and for RoC) I took the notice and they stamped and initialed it to indicate that I was there. I'm surprised you even got in without the biometrics notice. Security is normally very reluctant to let someone in without some kind of piece of paper indicating an appointment. Is it possible they stamped it and you've since misplaced it? I would begin to wonder if this "sister" isn't actually a previous acquaintance of some sort from the old country. There's a specific species of immigration fraud who always seem to "just happen" to get hooked back up to a significant other they knew back home, who got into the country through their own suspicious circumstances. I don't think there's any particular rule saying that you have to be in the US at the time you file the I-751 (though I imagine they tend to assume you will be). There's nothing in the form or it's instructions that I can see (based on a quick scan) that requires you to be in the US at time of filing. The only complications I can think of is making sure that you are able to make your biometrics appointment, and any possible interview during that timeframe. You DEFINITELY need someone dependable watching your mail and letting you know immediately of anything coming from USCIS. Given that, I think this can probably work. Theoretically, they can only keep them on file for some limited amount of time (6 months-1 year). I don't know for sure exactly what a joint I-751 filing represents to USCIS, in terms of the health of your marriage [I would have to read the form and instructions in detail, as you should now], but if a joint I-751 application is representing to USCIS that you are happily and stably married and cohabitating, and you aren't, than you probably shouldn't do that. USCIS seems to lack a category for I-751 filings for separated people. They really only acknowledge the states of married and cohabitating, and cleanly divorced. If married and cohabitating, they expect you two to file jointly. If cleanly divorced, the GC holder can file on their own at any time. The onus will be on the GC holder to prove that the marriage was entered into in good faith. If they can show that, they get their 10-year GC, no problem. I would imagine that a notarized affidavit from the ex-husband, affirming that the GC holder entered into the marriage in good faith, would go a significant way towards helping them show that to USCIS. It updates your status in their system and I think that might be important. They specifically ask you to notify them whenever your immigration status changes, For me that means K-1 entrant -> PR, and PR -> citizen. When you go to update your new status and get a new card DO NOT OFFER THEM YOUR CURRENT CARD. Odds are they will not ask for it, and you may need a SSC in the 2-6 weeks it can take them to send out the new one. All other things being equal, and your RoC approved, you will be eligible to apply for naturalization sometime around November 2012. Naturalization tends to take 4-6 months, so you might possibly have your naturalization ceremony sometime around April-May 2013 at the earliest, and you'll be able to apply for a US passport immediately after the ceremony, once you have a certificate of naturalization in your hand. Kathryn had said that you were getting your RoC interview really quickly - unusually quickly, by historical standards. So it sounds like what is happening is that you somehow got scheduled for a very quick interview, but your local application service center (where you do biometrics - different office) is more backed up so you got a later biometrics appointment. Actually, in all likelihood your ASC biometrics appointment is occurring in the normal timeframe - it's just your interview that is weirdly early. What will most likely happen is that when all goes well at the interview they will approve you pending the bio appointment. Then right after you do the bio appointment, they will produce and mail out your new card. You'll be able to ask and confirm all of this at the interview, but I'm pretty sure that's what is going on.
