United KingdomProof of Custody for UK K1 Visa
OK, I found out that my ex got 100% custody of the kids at hearing (13 years so neither of us remembered).

The court officer just told me that we need to go to Family Court to get this reversed over to me. Dammit!!!

If we say no, the kids won't be coming over, either now or in the future, we cam still file a K2 though, right, and sort this stuff out in the meantime?

Phew - a wealth of replies and knowledge ... thanks guys.

I've been informed since that N Ireland law always grants custody to the mother unless otherwise stated and that I most likely have free visitation rights.

My lawyer is looking into it but she seems in no rush, whereas we are.

I'll see about getting the notorised letter.

They cost between £60 and £90??? These guys know how to charge!!!

Found on US London Embassy site ...

I'm divorced and applying for an immigrant visa. Do I require permission from my ex spouse to take my child out of the country?

If you are divorced and you are applying for a visa for your child(ren) by a previous marriage, you will be required to present on the day of your visa interview proof that you have been awarded custody of the child(ren) by the court and that permission has been given for the child(ren) to be taken out of the United Kingdom.

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if we declare my Kids on our DS-230-Pt1 - either following on or coming now do I have to show proof of custody to the UK consulate? And if anyone else has done this from the UK, where can I get such a thing?

So the temp EAD given at JFK doesn't expire for 90 days, regardless of whether you get married the next day or not?

When you get the next EAD (the one you get when you file during AOS) how long does it last for?

I can log on to Target with my Amazon details - great. However they don't appear to do store pick up. At the moment they are in the lead, what with being able to take payment and all, but if anyone else knows of a website where we can both pay for the item, and have it picked up at the shop, I would be very very grateful.

General Cornwalls,

You see it as a sad reflection on the politicians from other parties that a BNP candidate is a more attractive option. Well, no one put a gun to the 5.3% of Londoners who voted BNP in the mayoral election.

I understand your frustration about jobs going to the Ukraine etc. Today in Belfast, 50 FT100 Index companies are coming to Belfast from the USA to relocate "American" jobs to Northern Ireland because people here work cheaper and don't demand stuff like pensions and health care. So it's not just British companies who are at it.

You have to remember it's not Britain PLC that, rather than paying the legal minimum wage to locals, bring in illegal immigrants - it's corrupt employers. And I dispute your rosy view that there are "locals who would happily do the work" ... From my office window I can see 14, count 'em, 14 young men and women drinking in the park in the sunshine at 10.30am. This morning I got a coffee on my way to work at 8.30 - served by an Eastern European. I stopped in to get cigarettes - served by an Eastern European. When I got out to get lunch - I'll most likely get served by an Eastern European. Number of Eastern Europeans drinking in the park - 0. Number of locals - 14. And if there were no Eastern Europeans in Belfast I can bet my house there would still be 14 locals drinking in the park.

I agree mainstream politics in the UK is slimy but show me a country where they aren't? As for the BNP, for those of you who are interested ... the slime runneth over.

"Membership of the British National Party is open to those of British or kindred European ethnic descent." So, white people essentially.

Nick Griffin - BNP Leader ...

On Islam - "a wicked and vicious faith".

On the Holocaust, or "the Holohoax" as he call(ed)s it - "There is no doubt that hundreds, probably thousands of Jews were shot to death in Eastern Europe, because they were rightly or wrongly seen as communists or potential partisan supporters. That was awful. But this nonsense about gas chambers is exposed as a total lie."

On Muslims - He recently said on Newsnight that muslim immigrants were to blame for the country's hard drugs problems.

BNP youth leader Mark Collett - "I'd never say this on camera, the Jews have been thrown out of every country including England. It's not just persecution. There's no smoke without fire."

Scott McLean - The party's deputy chairman - Was shown on the TV documentary "Nazi Hate Rock" making Hitler salutes at a white-supremacist cross-burning ceremony where intensely racist songs were sung and jokes made about Auschwitz.

7 July London bombings - The BNP released leaflets featuring images of the bombed Route 30 bus and the slogan "Maybe now it's time to start listening to the BNP".

On homosexuality - It "should not be promoted or encouraged".

Any way, that's my two cents ...

It was also interesting that the BNP has won its first seat in the assembly. I don't really know anything about the party so can't comment at all on that one.

Not being a Londoner I can't comment on Ken/Boris.

I can however say that the fact the BNP got a seat (on this or any other assembly) is a very, very, very sad reflection on London or any society. If you really don't know anything about them they are in fact a racist, facist bunch of bully boys who want a white separatist Britain - white power, ain't no black in the Union Jack, etc.

These guys are proud of the fact that the British went out and conquered the world ... and are now complaining when everyone follows them back home. Unbelievable.

Hi all,

Mercedes is going to get our i-134 Affidavit of Support stamped at the Consulate in Belfast this morning.

She's a student here so is still officially an Oregon resident. Should she put her Belfast address on the form or should she put her Oregon address?

Any one any suggestions?

Her work stuff she's putting in is all for a part time job here in Belfast so it kinda weird that that's her work place but her address is in Oregon.

As she's a student she's under the poverty level but her Mum is co-sponsor and I'm self-sponsoring too.

Will it matter if we put her address as Belfast, N. Ireland do you reckon as her financial info is not going to really count at the end of the day?

Me again,

Mercedes brought a letter signed and dated by herself stating her readiness and willingness to get married to me in the USA for our interview. She asked the consulate in Belfast to notarize it and they said there was no need - so instead of insisting she just said, "OK".

So, I noticed someone got rejected recently for NOT having a notarized letter of intent with them. Now, i know it says nothing about this in Packet 3 or 4 but hey, where does it say you need a new style police cert either?

So, should she re-book and get that done?

You will only need a new Letter of Intent at your interview if your NOA2 has expired.

United KingdomNightmare about Interview
I had a bit of a nightmare today ...

In the rush to get Packet 3 back I put down on one of the attached sheets that I was in the USa from July 2006 to August 2007. What it was meant to read was July 2006 to August 2006.

Now, I got work to write me a letter saying I was away from July 2006 to August 2006, I have passport stamps in, and other stamps in to the US from April 2007 and July 2007. I also have bank statements showing all my USA withdrawals at the time and then the Irish/UK ones starting the day I came back. I also amended the page with a note of explanation below.

I entered the US on a (still) valid journalist visa so even if I had been there for 13 months I would have been there legally but still, it's not a nice feeling and I'm glad I saw it now rather than on Tuesday morning in the Embassy!!!

Can anyone advice on more supporting evidence to overrule the error?

I can be such a klutz at times.

You're 100% on that? The OP had an NOA2 of only a few weeks old - I think ours is valid to July 16th - either way, Mercedes is coming in with me to the Embassy and they'll hardly be so cruel as to make me get the damn thing notarized if she's sitting there waiting for me. Besides, she went to get her letter stamped at the consulate in Belfast and they had never heard of such a thing ... and hers is dated that day (May 15th I think) as she got had it written out and signed that day ... maybe I should run off a copy Monday night

i've only just discovered that the US Immigration in Dublin knock off at 4pm and her flight clear immigration in JFK anyway ... we are gutted as we would love to be on the same flight to start our new life together.

On the plus side, I get 3 hours to clear immigration and get a bite to eat before she arrives with the dog and then one of us can stay with the bags while the other walks the dog and we can leave the airport for our hotel pretty much straight away rather than leaving hours later if here is a hold up in immigration.
