Okay, Journee - Have to ask - What the heck do you do for a living that you can go so much? I'm jealous!

Sorry Sus,
I just saw that you sent me this question. My Sister and I own a Day Spa and Events Planning Business. And I just started my own Bankrupcty Documentation Preparation Service. That is primarily why I can leave so much. Because most of my work can travel with me. Thanks to all who answered wiht wireless connection in Jamaica.

Just jumping in . Sungold does "The Best" photos in Negril. They are the most professional. (But honestly they are a bit pricey and in very popular demand. They are reffering their business to this other lady. She is just as good).

I am a Craigslist Buyer. I want to buy a washer and I have an extra TV that I want to ship to Jamaica. (Secrets out Ladies. I aint washing nothing on my hands, I love that Island, but I am a city girl!!)

Can anyone please tell me how to do this without spending a huge amount of money on UPS ($900 to ship a 24inch color TV.)

Also what does it mean when the VJ'ers are saying "Ship a Barrel"?

Thanks for the help

No but I visit every month and he washes our clothes by hand. Or he will pay someone. I am tired of bringing home dirty undies (I dont want him / her washing my "drawers" and hanging them in the yard) So I found a washer on craigslist for $125 . So I was considering sending it to Jamaica.

In the past I posted a 1 bedroom/ bath w kitchen in Negril for $45 in Negril. (Balcony has a Ocean View)

Well, I also want to post that after May 1st,

I will have 3, 1 bed 1 bath w/ private kitchen in Negril on "The Cliffs for $50 nightly.

Both locations are newer modern concrete buildings with security bars in nice "quiet" neighborhoods. So let me know if you are interested.

If you are going to be staying longer that 7 days I may be able to work out a better rate for the location up " The Cliffs".

These are both nice locations if you are looking for something more intimate than a Hotel/ Resort because you can actually cook.

Good Luck on your Journey and thanks for the look!

QUOTE (dillon @ Mar 24 2009, 09:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I got into Mobay on Thursday the 19th. It took about 2 hours to go through immigration and customs so I didn't get out of the airport until 3:00. We were planning on paying the visa fee once I got out of the airport but by the time we got to the NCB it was 3:30 and they closed at 2:30! I was shocked that they close so early.

So we just started our drive to Kington and he had to stop at him first because he forgot the shoes he wanted to wear. We drove to Kington through Stoney Hill and not the flat bridge route. That night we stayed at Mikouzi Guest house. The woman was VERY nice and even helped us find it. It isn't anything fancy but we had a one bedroom. It had a kitchen, sitting area, bathroom and a bedroom with a queen bed and a TV. The water pressure was good and there was hot water although it took a minute to come out. The grounds are very lush and a nice place to stay.

Friday we woke up early because we wanted to be at the NCB by 8:30 when it opened and we still didn't know where it was. There is one accross the street and from the embassy so you don't have to go far. You can walk there. We were in line by about 8:10 I would say. We paid the fee and then went over to the embassy.

We went right up to the front of the line the woman checked our paper work and put it in order and in we went through the metal detectors. When we were in the courtyard there is another woman who gives you the yellow piece of paper that you write your passport number on for DHL.

We go in check in and get out number A151 so we go into section A and it is crowded we go and stand along the wall with the counter and just check out what is going on for a while. Then we started to play hangman. People are getting called up and seats start opening up so we sit down. Finally our number is called and we go to window 6. The lady takes all our paperwork and tells me that I am very organized and I responded well I have been waiting for this day for along time. We go and sit back down and wait for our interview.

We get called up around noon and we get this white guy with an afro, window 8. He was very nice and we have been listening to him all day. He pretty much approved everyone if they had all their paperwork there, those that didn't he gave a blue slip too. I think there were only 2 or 3 fiance visa's in that section that day the rest were family based visa's.

So we go up and he asks for our passports and then goes around the corner to look at them. Thought that was a bit strange. He comes back and tells us raise our right hands and says do you swear to tell the truth and then the questions start:

When we met?
Where we met?
How many times have I been to Jamaica?
Have I seen him on every trip?
When did you start dating?
When did you get engaged?

I answered all those questions.

He then asks Conmar to go sit at the back of the room and for me to pick up the phone.
I pick up the phone and then the questions just start pouring in:

When did I get there?
Where did we stay the night before?
Was it just the two of us there?
When am I going back home?
Have I met anyone in his family?
What are their names?
Has he met anyone in my family?
What is her name?
Do I live with anyone?
Does Conmar live alone?
Do I live in a house or an apartment?
Do we talk about what I do at my job?
How often do we talk?
What do you guys talk about?
Where does his son live?
Who does his son live with?
Who is Conmar closest to in his family?
Does he know Marley’s Dad?
Is Marley’s Dad involved in her life?

There were more questions but I can’t remember what they are right now.

Then he tells me to send Conmar up and for him to pick up the phone.

He asked him:
Have you met anyone in her family?
Have you met Marley’s Dad?
Who are you closest to in your family?

And that was about it for Conmar…He said congratulations take this to DHL for them to arrange for your passport to be delivered to you.

We were both so excited and I don’t think that the smile has left our faces yet.

Afterwards we were starving because we didn’t eat anything in the morning so we went to KFC. He pulled into the wrong car park and we were going to the right one and he wasn’t paying attention and he hit a car that was coming down the little lane. Not just any car but a Land rover!!!! Amazingly enough their car didn’t get one scratch, thank GOD, but on his front bumper there was some damage.

Sorry about the novel but I thought that it would help the others that are waiting for their interviews.

Yes, I am in the Bay Area, SF to be exact. Where are you? I'd like to meet fellow yardies! good.gif

Ja Honey

jUST tAK it ez!

It will all work. The beauty of being a woman is we are allowed to be emotional! Society has somewhat taken that from us and marked it as being a ###### or crazy. But we are emotional we just have to know when to eloquently apply it. I am emotional as hell. I apply it when I want and as much as I want . Hell I guess I am crazy! lmao

I am just defensive by nature. Sometimes emailing and cyber chatting can come off as harsh and that was not my intention. But as a jamaican child told me. "Mi na leave mi head at home wit mi mudda". I can think for my self. And at times people will say things in a "round about" way. So I may have to throw some dayum stones back.
And if they dont hit "Your Windown/ or Bust your head". Dont worry yourself!

Even if I am wrong in how I understood the reply, I will still defend my positon!

And I am still humming Jilly from Philly

response from Jawi
There was nothing "round about" in my response...regardless of what someone may say in PM to you. I am going to always stand by what I feel and be true to myself first. I don't have to do PM chat to say what I feel. Nor, do I need someone to "ruffle my feathers" so I can laughingly "act crazy." Somebody may see this as me arguing with you...but I don't. I think we are have a healthy exchange of ideas. I hope from my heart that I get to know you better, and that we become fast friends. good.gif

Response fro Journee:
The PM'S I RECIEVED WERE NOT TO RUFFLE MY FEATHERS. I DONT NEED A "AMEN" CREW TO SAY WHATS ON MY MIND". They were in relation to the way the post may have read. Applying again " If the shoe doesnt it your foot. Dont Wear It. In MY Opinion this board response was round about WAY.

response from Jawi
In bold, I thought the same EXACT thing when you posted about how to determine if your man is using you. I felt it was judgemental based on your own experiences and your statement that noone was more qualified than you to speak on the subject matter. However, there are many women going through the very thing you posted whether they ever post or not. I just wanted us ALL (me included) to stop judging each other and our relationships based on what would be breaking points for us individually. Every person and couple is different. FOR EXAMPLE: you may never date a man that can't provide for you financially or at least equally. However, there may be another woman here that was beat and controlled for years by a man that provided financially and all she wants is a man that supports her emotionally and lovingly. Does that mean she is being used by the new man? Nope...means that they reached their own compromise for what works in their relationship.

So if your position is to call me a hater...so be it. I have had worse said...and probably will long after I leave this Earth. Much respect and love to you same way ((((Journee)))

Response from Journee

And as I have said once again While Whistling Hate on Me. If the shoe doesnt fit. Dont apply it to your foot!

When I prefeced my response. "No one has more experiance" I was speaking in reference to people in Jamaica asking you to bring things back.

Not, that I had experianced being used. That is not a position I have every applied for have much experiance at or am willing to participate in. I truly believe that people allow their selves to used. (Once again not speaking in reference to anyone here)

QUOTE (JOURNEE1125 @ Mar 25 2009, 01:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Honestly Jawi, I am not offended. I play alot and I was laughing at it all. I recieved ALOTT of pm referencing it and that is the reason for some of my board responses.

I am self employed and I am able to take "some" of my work with me. I have an excellent team that works with me in the states and we hold each other down when we are away. 2 of the ladies that work with me have SO's who live outside of the US. I just know that MY Sweetie is worth it. And he helps me tremendously.

I am on the board quite a bit I just dont post this much .LMAO

Now it's my turn to agree with Jawi - preach on, sista!

Response from Journee (Sorry about the editing the response wasnt aligned)

Nevertheless, At this stage I consider this a mute point. I have expressed what "My intentions" were to the person who my comment was directed. I have exchanged in "several comical" responses. And I dont feel the need to keep regererating this same issue. We all know who we are and the goal we are focoused on. Some things can really be taken out of context and if my responses have been taken in that way. Then so be it.

I have enjoyed chatting with some of you ladies. I have enjoyed the "Valuable" info provided to me by others. And for all else continue to waste your time not mine. There is so much more positive topics to be discussed here. Remember to only wear that shoe if it fits your foot.

Jawi, I agree wiht you on alot of the points you made. And I am sure we will have more discussions again in the future. And I say all of this with no sarcasim. I dont have anything bad to say about you or anything bad to say about anyone here. Hopefully as you all pass trhough Negril I hope you drop me a lone so that we can meet. I get so excited putting names from VJ with faces. And as much as I love Jamaica. I do miss American Friends from time to time.

Hi Culture. (i EDITED MY LAST REPLY SORRY)

I dont think anyone here is better equipped to answer this question than me. I visit my SO every month in Negril SINCE APRIL 2007. (I have the passport to prove it) And the way I deal with request is I say NO!!!!

First of all, you have to pay for what they are asking for.(MOST OF THE PEOPLE ASKING WILL PROMISE TO PAY "you back"), can someone please start a forum on how many people recieved their money back !!! whistling.gif I can wait!)

Then you have to pay the cost of your checked baggage AND POSSIBLE OVER WEIGHT.
If you get "Caught up" in customs you could be responsible for paying duty!
And above all you will never be able to keep up with the request!
Each time you bring a requested item. YOU WILL HAVE MORE DAYUM REQUEST!

Example!
The man that sells chicken in town in Negril told my SO to ask me to bring him a microwave!!! My SO told him NOT "go to hell" But go to Sav! Sav La mAR THAT IS , BIG STORES WITH CHEAPPER ######! LMAO

Rember ladies: What you start doing in the begining of the relationship , you will be expected to continue! (That also applies to lowering your standards! If you lowered them to get Him you have to keep your standards low to KEEP HIM! So if you thought it was cute to "Smoke a little with him on the beach. I challenge some of the ladies to eliminate the monitary investments, CARS, gifts, and treats of the relationships for 60 days and see if the relationship is still so happy or even exsistent.

Remember ladies we can only be "USED" if we allow ourselves to be "USED UP"

Some could say that your "monthly" visits are monetary investments and a way (even if temporarily and you stay with him at his home) for him to have an improved quality of life. A lot of the men in Jamaica don't eat as well until their lady comes in town and goes grocery shopping...some don't even get to watch TV until their wifey tells him the hotel room number. Some don't even have the $$ to attend a party at M'ville...the Jungle...Alfreds...xyz until wifey comes in town...and when they go to local street dance dem a beg and look a drink.

I just think that we put entirely too much weight on whether or not we provide money or gifts to our men as to whether it is a real relationship or not. There are SO many other ways a man can use a woman without ever touching her wallet/purse/bank account. If he is that type of man...trust me you are not going to be his only source of income anyway. He can and will wait you and your purse strings out if he feels that you are going to eventually be that cash cow. If a gigalo can marry a woman that he doesn't love and wait for over two years for a greencard...60 days without pay will not faze him really. The gig game is sooo much bigger than that. Now, this is not to say that the stories won't get more deseparate or outlandish...but just to say it is by far not the only way to avoid an opportunist.

The only red flags you need to heed are those that hit your gut...it makes you have bubble guts or want to vomit...ladies just start trusting your instinct and natural God given gift of women's intuition. It will never fail you unless you stifle it. good.gif star_smile.gif

I agree with you 100% on this!!

I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT . And I am not responding to this to offend you or anyone else. So if the shoes dont fit your feet DONT WEAR THEM.

To clarify your comment on My monthly visits could bee seen as a monetay investiment. Well I guess you could see it that , however my SO and I take turns purchasing my tickets. We do live together! I dont just "spend the night with him"! Unlike some people on this site and in this world I cant afford to buy a man. I happen to know for a fact "Real Men" are not for sale. My SO has his own home and we dont live in Jamaica like tourists. So yes we do occassionaly go to a club. But even in the states I am not a big clubber. And yes I do give him gifts but mostly on holidays or birthdays.

And in referencing you comment on "QUALITY OF LIFE". My SO had a very decent quality of life when I met him. OMG He even had a T.V AND A CAR! That he bought. Hell he had a job and all of the other "QUALITIES" I look for in an American man. I AINT SAVING BROTHAS IN THE STATES AND I AINT SAVING JAMAICANS. I aint trying to be his supa woman. I am just being his Lady.

In closing: In relationships if you lower you standards when dating you recieve that same "TYPE" of person in Marriage! Yes there are limited oppurtunities in Jamaica. But these people are resilient. They find ways to make the most of and the make it work "CREDIT FREE". If you stick around in Jamaica "Long enough" you will come to realize most of these people have more "FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE" than the foriegners they are dating!

"Relationship Red Flags" you know them before you ever even post them on this. SOME, people are looking for someone to either support them or shoot them down. Eiter way we all have "FREE WILL" Just be smart enough to not find your self "Supported in Ignorance"!

BTW GOOD MORNING LMAO!

Good Morning Ladies. I hope all is well with each and every one of you!

Good Morning ladies!

Oh gosh. I'm so sorry. I was just using your post as an example. In no way was I thinking you needed to defend your actual relationship. I was trying to get a point across that no matter what "red flags" other people post--they have no merit if your own internal warning bells are not sounding off in your relationship.

I have never even seen you post on VJ before...so I had absolutely nothing to judge you on...not that I would anyway. I just feel so disheartened that we are all going through this same process...yet we still come on here trying to persuade each other that our relationship is "real".

All the things you posted are wonderful...but I would never post all of that to make my point to a virtual stranger. Nobody's relationship on this board is perfect or free from problems. I know mine isn't. I know the merit of my relationship...so I don't feel a need to defend it.

Again, your post just happened to be the very thing alot of women here feel the need to defend their relationship against so I just played devil's advocate and showed how others could possibly judge yours from what you posted.

Now, I need to know what you do that affords you so much time away from work so frequently...and are they or you hiring. LMAO BTW...I'm not offended by your post. I'm sorry if I offended you at all.

Ja Honey

jUST tAK it ez!

Excellent and fair point JAWI,

We all invest something, time, food, money, physical, patience. But it is when it becomes an Issue or situation that the person should be concerned. Everyone has the one last straw!

Just keep your eyes opend and stay focused on what You feel You Deserve!

In retro to my first email. I was in no way bashing ELL last night and she knows this. We were PM'ing while I made this post talking about walmart. So as I have said if I have offended anyone, Especially if by striking that nerve" that was not my intention. My response was just "Me flinging Stones" at anyone who "Flings Stones" at me.
No one can tell "My Story" better than me. So my repsonse was to clear up any assumptions about "MY MONTHLY VISITS" to spend time with my Sweetie.

Muah,

I am Blowing Kisses and Huming Jill Scotts "Hate on Me Hater" while I type this LMAO

No but seriously yall, I am not trying to hurt any body I wish you all well. No relationship is perfect and I am in no way impling that mine is. But I will give my God his Glory. I have been Blessed!

Take Care

And after you listen long enuff you will be able to use your " Real Eyez" and realize if this is what is "Good" not just to you "BUT Good For YOU! So, do ya'll like my hair style. I was trying to post it bigger, but I don't know how to.

Sus; TL where you at. Show me how to do this.

OMG.......You are the Acid Queen from Tommy. Love it, Tre.

I want to post it so that ya'll can see it better...but mi no know how fi do dat.

NIICCCEEEE Tre..girl it must have been down your back when u pressed it. how ya keep it so healthy.. my likkle girl has curly hair that "afros up"well (no such word I know) so I won't put a perm on hers like my oldest , but it always looks dry.. I try the shea butter, moisturizer, Sheen spray but it still looks so DRY. I always end up just plaiting it up or the faithful afro puff for days on end.

Dancehallquana, I use olive oil on my hair, it keeps from being dry. I can't use regular hair oil on my hair either.

Roxcie

I use it too

DHQ you should put some olive oil on her hair while its wet,

that will help you comb it out as well as lock in moisture.

Which in turn will also keep it from looking so dry.

Is this regular ole olive oil? My hair is always so dry at the ends and I want something to help hold in the moisture.

Claire, it the regular olive oil at the local grocery store.

Roxcie

Hi all its me Journee. I owned hair salons for years <thats my side hustle now>:) and one thing we used that really works well on "Multi Ethnic" hair is a product call "Curly Pudding". My sister and brother are "Bi Racial" and my sister uses it on her hair. She has a " Awfull dry sand red cotton ball" on her head if she doesnt!!!

You will have to order it off the internet from New York. But it is the best. It will allow her hair to have the "Natural Curl/kink" without the dry frizzies. IT MAKES THE HAIR LOOK SOOO PRETTY! I warn you it is a bit expensive . But it is worth every dime and the product lasts a long time.
You can even use this stuff on straight hair and it will make it curl with out applying a chemical. <Hell I sound like a commercial!> I perm my hair faithfully. But when I am not rockin a weave or extremly straight. I put this product in my hair and it curls right up. <I love their Baby Buttercreme for my daughters hair.

They need to send me my dayum commission check!!
