K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy did fees go so high this year?
I agree with everyone if you think it's to much maybe this isn't what you are really looking for. Keep in mind you are going to spend so much more on the move to USA. It's a benefit not a right to be here. Let me tell you a little story. My father great man that he is was working in West Germany in the early 80's to while my mother was running her own store in Poland. They did everything they could so I would have a great up bringing. I know Poland wasn't the worst country to be in at that time being it a communist state. You have some of those Asian countries like Cambodia where they came in and killed off and sent people to work camps. Anyhow it wasn't the worst and far from the best. Well my dad came to the States the legal way when he arrived he got an Green Card in the mail. Then my father worked on getting my mother and me here. I didn't know how lonely or sad it can be not seeing your wife or son for a year it could be. This was back in 1987 when he came over here of course to New York the gate way to the America. After a year and a half we were able to come to the States with a Green Cards this was June 1988. Now I can see how much it hurt not being able to see your wife or son for that amount of time. As I'm following in his foots steps trying to bring my future wife to the States from Poland. He had to pay the fees back then for us to move here and it happen. My brother younger brother was born here in USA and my parents got their naturalization in 2001 I was just over 18 so I didn't get mine. Then my mother hurt her back at work and wasn't able to work until this year she still has pain everyday but she deals with it. She didn't get anything from it. My parents both worked hard over here in the States and never asked anything more from the government not even food stamps or anything and times were very hard at times. I grew up faster then I should have over here due to that and from that up bringing that is why I'm able to be a great manager at a service shop here in town. Did I think I was going to be working with cars? No, I wanted to go to college and took some courses but wasn't able to finish since my mother had injuried her back. I went to work and college for a little while then I had to work more to help out my parents and hopefully be able to help out my brother and have him go to college. Now I picked a girl from Poland that had a great up bringing and very smart. She just finished school in Poland and her and her sisters have always been helping out their parents on the farm whenever they were not at school. Now we both decided it was time for use to get engaged. I travel to Poland a lot of the years ever since I left Poland any spare time and change I could come up I would go to Poland to spend some time there. Recently I helped my parents and brother move to England as my brother picked a school there to attend. While helping them move I'm doing my I129F and all the stuff that deals with it. It's going to cost money and it's take time but it's only paper that the money is printed on like I said before. I have been able to put money aside now for the AOS and no I don't make the 50k a year I do make some decent money. If you are complaining that you aren't making 50k a year maybe you should do something for yourself and fix that problem. Like it was said before there are people that aren't making much and they somehow manage and don't complain about the fees. Just be grateful you have family here and are able to travel to USA and Canada without a Visa to visit. I don't have any family left in the States right now and she can't travel to even visit me here cause she couldn't get an B-2 Visa over then summer when I was in Poland.

Put it this way no one should pay for your benefit and it's not a Right. I'm proud to be Polish-American or American-Polish which every way you look at it. I have duel citizenship American and Polish and so does my parents and brother. I will always have my homeland in my heart and always USA in it too. USA and Poland are both great IMHO but have good and bad stuff about them. No place in the world is perfect but it's great being an American smile.gif If the fees go up in 2010 it's ok with me do I hope I file for AOS before they go up Yes and everybody would like to do before they do but you can't do anything about it. Plus I would rather pay more and get things down quicker then have a small fee and wait for years for your file to come up. I think America is one of those few places if you work hard and have some brians (doesn't have to be college grad either) you can get really far in life.

Hi,
New here and hope to post here through the process. smile.gif

I'm from Texas, my fiancee is from Toronto, Ontario.

I've been researching this whole process for awhile now and have thought that the fees are quite extreme and have come to realize that they went up substantially this year. From $190 to $455? From $350 for AOS to $930?

To me this sounds crazy and it's awfully hard for my fiancee and I to afford those fees all at once delaying the process even longer. We make good money to live off of, but not so much to drop that much extra money all at once, so we are quite stressed out by this whole process.

Why did the fees go up so much from what they were and has there been any benefit to this?

-Paul

Not to defend fee increases (something I never do) but the AOS fee now includes the I-765 and I-131 if filed at the same time. So if you file for all three there really is no fee increase. Also, I have it on very good authority we can expect fees to increase again, 30-50% across the board within 12 months

Hopefully it won't be in the early half of the next year. Also I have saved up in the last 3 months the AOS 1010$ fee sitting in my bank account when for us to file when we do finally get done with the process of getting her here from Poland. You do have a point with the I-765 and I-131 forms. Also love is forever and it's only paper that the money is printed on, with the dollar dropping so quick it's actually becoming cheaper if you think of it in the world term if that makes any sence. If your other has some saved up money overseas most likely she will be able to buy more USD at todays rate then 2 years ago.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmedical?
It should be on the Ebassy website where you do the medical. Other then that I can't tell you if one is near you as we are doing the process in Poland. Over there their are like 3 doctors that do it all in Warsaw so I don't know how yours is. Maybe someone from Canada would be more of a help to you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTotal fees for K1 just to get here
Has anyone heard of any increase on the AOS part? We hope that we can make the AOS before the pull a hugh fee increase on that part of our step. I don't mind paying like 20-30% more but if it goes 50% or more percent then we going to have a though time as the move is costing a bit of money already. I will have enough money just it's going to be tight on the budget around here.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 after 90 no marriage

Adjusting status results in Legal Permanent Residence, not Citizenship. My wife will probably never become a US Citizen. LPR's (green card holders) who maintain permanent resident status in the USA have no difficulty entering the USA.

I understand that but we have to AOS so later in a 3 years she can apply for citizenship. I also know you can travel without a problem with your green card. I did that for 21 years before I got my citizenship last June :) But you can't stay outside of the USA for a long period of time like with your citizenship.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 after 90 no marriage
How about get married if you guys love each other. File for AOS then think about where you guys want to live. If you choose Sweden it's really nice over there but he will have a harder time to travel to the States if he doesn't get his citzenship. Otherwise if you guys find a place that you both like in the States he can stay legeally here.

Let me tell you our plan for right now is. To get married over here get the AOS stay until she can get her citzenship and if we want to choose moving back to Europe then we will but we will both have duel citzenship as I'm from Poland and so she is too. However I can't move there right now as I have a really good job here but both of our plans include Europe for retirement so sooner or later we may end up there, but that is just our plan and it really depends on her if she likes the States a lot to stay here for life. My parents and brother live in England and the rest of our families are in Poland.

Isn't it awful we have to prove the validity of our marriages? I met my wife 10 months before we got married. We just KNEW we were right for each other... and now we're scared that THEY won't see that. How do you prove your relationship is real if the documentation you sent in isn't enough?? I know many couples who don't always take pictures of everything they do, we sure don't!

From just reading on here. I see some Embassies it's harder to prove your relationship then others. From reading like China,India, some Mid-east, and African countries you really have to pack on the documents to prove it's real. Then you have some Embassies that are really easy more laid back at the interviews and approve most of applications. No fair I think those high risk Visa fraud countries give people the hardest time, it's not fair but it only takes a few bad apples to make everything harder for everyone else that is trying to do it right and in the legal way.

Good luck on your case looks like the marriage on your next visit and file is going to be the fastest way right now.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1 Approved! An FYI report
Did they ask for much of proof of on going relationship? We only have phone bills and pictures of us as she doesn't have the internet so we don't use that form. I have like 3-4 months of phone text messages and calls invoices that I sent to her. Hopefully that will be no problem. I have no problem meeting the minimum income level as I have past that mark earlier in the year. She was denined twice this year for an B-2 Visa so she could visit me here. Hopefully the K-1 Visa, they will grant her that. January 6th is her interview date. Can't wait to that day so we can both be less stressful.

She actually lives near Lomza so it's going to have to be done in Warsaw. I still remember mine I did it in Warsaw back in 1988 even that I lived in Wroclaw at a time with my mother as I was only a little kid at that time. We have a kinda neat story she is from a villiage right next to where my grandparents lived. Everyone jokes around that I traveled the world and came back to the next villiage over to pick my wife lol.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo Tourist Visa's Freak You Out?
We are worried too as her interview is in 12 days. She was denined for a B2 Visa twice this year. Once in January and once when I was with her at the US Embassy in July to get her a B2 Visa so she could visit me. What we heard is that the K-1 Visa is so much easier to get in Poland then the B2 Visa. I'm counting down the days and keep worry about it, but we are both pretty sure we will get the K-1 Visa and third time the charm they say anyways smile.gif The two times that she tried this year they told her no and not even looked at anything she had and made the answer in few seconds seeing her. It sucks but now in 12 days we believe she is going to be a proud Visa holder and finally able to come here and stay for good.

Good luck! We have her interview on the 6th in Poland and sleep has been hard to find for me atleast. It's bothering her less then me but I'm worried a bit now since she was denined her B2 visa twice last year at the America Embassy in Poland. The good news is that it's easier to get the K-1 Visa there. I won't be myself until I hear her tell me we got the visa on Wednesday.

Once again Good luck mate! May we have some more sleep at the end of the week :)

It looks good but if you let us know where she is having her interview it might help us give you a for sure answer.

Oops just notice that it's the Philippines. Maybe someone that knows that Embassy will give you a 100% answer. She does make above the guidelines.

CanadaAbsolute Worst Timing Having to Lease a Car
I always had a German car. I love them and they are expensive but if you keep up with them they will run for a long time. Not to mention they look very nice and have great handling. Had a few VW's but lately the lower end models really are just ####### to much cheap plastic and stuff falls apart on them. I love BMW's and Porsche's had few of both kind and using an Carrera as a daily driver for the last two years. I know what you mean for the leasing I looked at those not to long ago and the prices are really up there for America cars and right now atleast here where I live you can lease yourself an 2010 Audi A4 for 359 with 2000 down for 36 months. Really just look at that would I rather have a new Ford or an Audi for cheaper? I don't like the idea of an lease anyways since at the end you don't have anything but there is the other plus side that you get into a new car every 2-3 years. Just depends on the person. I just serviced an 2003 BMW 745i at work today with just under 200k on the engine and it ran like new still. I just don't like the America cars cause after a few years the interior starts to fall apart and the thing makes so much noise going down the road only after a few years. Ever close the door on a Mustang it feels like everything inside the door gets thrown around each time. German cars also like to have there window regulators fail on them. Asian cars are great also they will run forever with almost no work on to them. If someone doesn't care about the up keeping of the car and changing oils I would go with Toyota,Honda, or Nissan as they willl run for a long time if people don't do any work to them. On German cars you have to keep up with the work and run Synthic oils and you will be fine. In America cars if you don't keep up with them a lot of things start going wrong with them. They do make some nice looking cars I just can't drive a car that rattles and their interiors fall apart just after a few years it's a shame if cause there are some really nice ones out there. Also why is it that when you buy can Cadillac they always leak oil and soon after they will start leaking transmission. The Northstar engines love to burn oil from brand new they burn most times about 1-2 qts of oil from new plus they always leak. If you spend that kind of money on a car it shouldn't have those issuse.
