National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC phone (603-334-0700) is always BUSY???

Yes, I plan to call right at opening and towards closing, and in between some random times.
Since it's been 17 calendar days and 12 business days since TSC sent the case to NVC
I'm thinking NVC might have or getting close to sending the case to China...I hope.

Wow, what an incredible torture system!!!   LOL
They should at least have automated phone system that we can punch in our information
and get our case number and status.   Where is our tax money being spent?   LOL

Where is my money being spent? On private jets for government services in and out of California, lol! The least they can do is at least give us an option for the automated dialer to call us back when it is our turn. I'm going to talk to my local representative about a couple policies that need to be changed.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaCR-1 Visa approved in El Salvador on April 16. Still haven't received it in mail.
Quick question for you, How did it take for you to get an interview date? I just got my final step completed from NVC and i called them last week on monday (7/02/2012) and they told me that my case was closed and my paper got sent over to El Salvador to get an interview. I am wondering what happens next and about how long does it take from this point on. Would you be able to help me?

Thanks

 NO PROBLEM!!!!!!!! Glad I could help!

:) I called NVC and they told me that they have stopped making appointments for August and we will have to wait till the first two weeks of August to see if we made the Cut for September..Boo .. I hope we make it..

Thanks

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaImmigrant Visa Approved!!!!!

Well, here's how I was led to believe it works. The NVC schedules the interviews in the first two weeks of the month FOR the following month. Since you fall within the first two weeks, you COULD get lucky and they schedule your interview for August. The way ours worked was we got approved on April 16, a couple days AFTER the two week window where they schedule interviews. So, we had to wait for the first two weeks of May to get our interview date for JUNE.

If you get lucky, your interview date will be in August. Just keep calling the NVC and ask for updates, that's all I did. If the interview date is in August, and he gets approved, he will then have to wait for his visa, which takes about 3-5 days (at least, it did for us). Then it's up to you when you will be together!

If you are not as fortunate to get an interview date for August, you will have to wait until the first two weeks of AUGUST to get scheduled and interview for September! :( Then you will have to wait and see the date. You may get the beginning of Sept, which would be great, or the end, which would mean you would probably wait until October.

Worst case scenario, I would say October is when you guys would be together. Best case would be August-September (depending on interview date). That's just how I would look at it. Understand, there are thousands of people doing what you are doing. But the tough part is over. This process is a lot more quicker than the I-130 petition.

Keep the faith! You are almost done!!!! :) And keep calling NVC!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! you have gave me faith... :) thank you thank you thank you.. and CONGRATS

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaImmigrant Visa Approved!!!!!

Yes, I think it definitely moved a lot faster once our stuff was at the NVC. You cant do the medical exam until your spouse receives the packet through the mail/email. Here, they will tell you what medical facilities are allowed to conduct testing and what testing results are accepted by the embassy. You will get the interview date AND the medical information at the same time. You have to do the medical exam about 3 weeks before the interview, which is what we did...

so maybe there might be hope that we might get an interview date for next month in August since our case was closed on 7/2/2012. Once El Savador sent you everything would you say things happened quick and getting appointment for the medical exam was done quick? Sorry for the questions i just want to have an idea on how things will go and how quick they might go. Thank you for all your help.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaImmigrant Visa Approved!!!!!

Well, our case was closed on April 16. We then had to wait until the first two weeks in May, because thats when the schedule interviews for the following month. We got our interview date sometime May 4-5. Our interview date was June 22. And she was approved that same day. She got her approved visa on June 27-28. She will be here AUG 11!!! We pushed back the date so she can tie up her loose ends in El Salvador.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much that really helped. So would you say that after NVC closes your case things move a lot faster? How did you guys do the Medical exam was it easy or hard I am trying to get myself and my husband prepared to so when we start getting dates we wont be waiting to long. But we can't do the medical exam without having an interview date correct? Thank you so mucho for your help you have gave me hope that this will be done soon and i can see my husband finally.. :)

Congrats once again and thank you

I had a few questions for you.

I called NVC on 7/2/2012 and they said my case was closed and were sennding the paper work to El Salvador, and they said we had to wait for an interview date. Asia: East and PacificMalaysia birth certificate translation

Hi,

I just extracted my birth certificate from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara in KL for RM5. It was a breezy process. Took less than an hour.

The certificate is not entirely bilingual. The form is bilingual but the information is not.

For example: Jantina Gender: Perempuan

So, "Perempuan" is not translated.

Is that acceptable for the K1 Visa application/ interview.

Should I still get it translated?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You should get it translated. I did mine online.

I have 2 jobs, one of which I just started just last month.  The other I have been working since 2010.  However my last three years of federal tax returns also exceed the poverty guidelines.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Is a joint sponsor necessary?

I am at the I-864 AOS stage in my journey withe NVC.  I want to know if it is recommendable to include a joint sponsor, even though I meet the poverty guidelines myself?  I barely meet the requirements, however I do meet them.  Also, I want to avoid getting another RFE or checklist like I did in the USCIS stage of my journey, which delayed us about to eternally long months.  My thought was to meet and EXCEED the requirements.  What do you think?

Call your Congressman!  They might be able to help push things along.  Your congressman's office will submit an inquiry to the NVC, and will likely prompt them to get things going.

I'm not really tight with Satellite to the point that I know him and his wife personally but the one thing he and I have in common (and that Jason will soon see, Chuckles is living through now) is we are younger guys who are still trying to "make it." And not that any of the older guys on here are rich, but they're not facing the same situation financially that plays such a big part in American lifestyle. Having younger girls (not that you're "older" cause you can't say that to any woman!) that aren't used to struggling through financial hardship without a benefactor or having done it themselves only exacerbates the situation and that's the root cause of a lot of the "adapting" problems that now plague our relationships.
The struggle continues, quit both my jobs at the start of this year to study for the bar. Living as two working students doesn't help in the adjustment part but it sure does "Americanize" you faster. Actually I think income wise you are still ahead of us. I don't think we broke 30k this year. But we spent at least 30k on education and borrowed another 30k in student loans. And Ohio real estate is still affordable to the average person out there, right? Although the foreclosure auctions are starting to look more and more attractive in California. Prices have fallen as much 200k in many areas. But our VJ and financial struggle journey is coming to an end soon. Got NOA1 for citizenship this month. Bar exam on the 26-28 of this month. And then if I pass, I can go get that crummy job slaving away for some RICH senior partner tongue.gif

It's just that we have different priorities and values here. Most people measure "wealth or success" not by the clothes they wear but rather by the home they own and its location followed by the car they drive and concluding with the places they go on vacation and at what restaurants they eat at. Wearing comfortable clothes that aren't in style has never been a big deal. Plenty of affluent gals do that.
Russians on the other hand, generally can only "show off" via their clothes, because their cars are non-existent and apartments mostly look like lack #######. Trust me your lady will be wearing home clothes in public in no time. Just give her a few years to adjust to what is valued here.

Yes, as KT said you shouldn't need a visa to transit through most countries. However, I would check with the airline once you buy your ticket because they can tell you for sure if you need a visa or not.
I would also check with the consulate of the transiting through country. As crazy it sounds a lot of European nations require certain nationals of Africa and the Middle East to get visas even if they are just transiting.
Here is a good place to start the check:

QUOTE (Neonred @ Jun 10 2008, 04:31 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Once the K-2 is used and she returns it will be very difficult to bring her back especially after one year.
To avoid this problem, your daughter should have gotten her green card before returning to study in Russia, thus ensuring she could enter once a year to avoid problems. Even sticking around for AP and returning for the AOS interview would have been sufficient. But that time has come and gone. Instead, you can now file an I-130 on her behalf. I would have suggested adopting her, but I think the USCIS cuts the line at age 16 for adoptions. Since no US citizen can sponsor her it will take many years for your wife to sponsor her. But getting in line doesn't hurt. If your wife acquires citizenship before her turn in line as a green card holder comes along, then she will avoid the wait up to that. That's about all I can think of for now.

It's funny how all the posters have skipped around your initial question. It's a great question, that I want someone to answer.
Transcripts prove you actually filed your taxes.
Anyone can hypothetically generate a tax return.
What is the goal of the USCIS? To prove we file taxes, to prove amount earned (W2) would be sufficient for that.
My wife's citizenship interview letter says bring transcripts or copies of return. But here I think they are checking whether she filed taxes these last three years.
Anyone?

Yekateringburg, Russia

Dear Visa Issuing Officer,

This letter to invite my parents XXX (spelled XXX in Russian) and XXX (spelled XXX in Russian) to visit us at XXX, California and also make an explanation on their application for the B-2 visitor visas.

I haven't seen my parents in over 1 year. I feel a great family closeness with my parents and such feelings have often been reflected in my dreams. I have been phoning them a lot to partially fulfill my feelings, although telephone talks is still quite different from seeing them. My parents have never seen how my husband and I live, our house, and have never met my in-laws.

[Insert nice paragraph on why your relationship is special and how family or work wise they are so intimately connected to Russia]

My parents have a piece of land and privately owned home in XXX. They do not have any intention to stay in the USA permanently. They are used to the living and culture in Russia. They have good lives there and have all the essential things needed including family, salaries, car, daughters and grandchildren, relatives, friends and state health insurance.

I would like them to spend a few weeks living with us and to visit some of the beautiful places in California. My parents have sufficient income to purchase airline tickets for their trip and will not required any living expenses, as they will be staying in our house. I will be financially obligated for them while they are present in the US and make sure they return back to Russia promptly at the end of their trip.

I highly appreciate your assistance for my parents application for B-2 visitors visas.

Sincerely,

Your name (Status, e.g. green card holder or US citizen)

The process at the embassy level is a crapshoot. Give them that I-864 co-sponsor or she doesn't come to the US. It is as simple as that. If you are going to bring them the same evidence, the same officer will reject it again. Asking for an advisory opinion (supervisor intervenes) or a formal reconsideration (congressman intervenes) can take many months to process with unpredictable results.

As for AOS fees -- don't get me started. I've been enormously disgusted with the money sunk into this process for the government, to which I pay taxes. The notion of spending another $1200 (and more) is outrageous. And for what service? The pushing of paper through the bureaucracy
Actually, USCIS, is not sponsored by your tax money. The agency, according to law, must get all of its funding from fees.
www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/FinalRule.pdf
The real problem is that USCIS has a monopoly over immigration services and does not have to compete in a market economy for its services, thus fees never fall and service never increases.

Of course there are. The majority that I know are all like me, Refugees. If you come as a Refugee you get all government benefits including SSI, Social Security, and Medical care. Very few folks at that age came through "family" immigration. And if you are wondering how you we all got refugee status....well it was based on either Religion (Jewish or Baptist); Political (Not a communist and persecuted), and even race works today in the xenophobic Russia. In California it is not a problem as I mentioned before because the state will take on the burden of the elderly and disabled. Not sure what New York, Illinois, Washington, or Florida does, as those states also hold a sizeable Russian population. Lastly, you can always take the slim risk that the government won't enforce the I-864 and if something does happen medically, you mom will still be treated, and since she has no assets and no earnings she is also judgment proof. A bankruptcy can also help clear out medical debts every 7 years.

Some states provide insurance to citizens that fall below a set amount of income.
I know California provides some form of Medi-Cal to just about anyone who is here legally with a social security number, regardless if they have an I-864 sponsor if you are over a certain age and under a certain income, or are disabled.
But finding private coverage for someone over 50 or 60 is going to cost you an arm and a leg. My recommendation is for mom to get a job with benefits ASAP, even if it is washing floors at your local super market.
