K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmissing documents . .what do i do???
You don't need all of that stuff for the petition. You only need to have met in person sometime within the last 2 years and you need photos of the two of you together. All the receipts and everything else you can bring to the visa interview. If you don't have any, make another trip out there prior to the inteview and save everything from that trip. If you have photos together and you've met within the last 2 years then that will suffice for the petition.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhere t0 send form? Copies of forms? Appropriate Pictures

1st off brand new to this so please help.

1. I live in Maine and i am wondering if i need to send i-129f to dallas tx or vermont. I read that if u live in maine u send to vt but the main website only gives tx address?

2. My fiance signed and scanned and emailed the g-325 form but didnt date it i added w ink, also it printed poorly but you can see that it was signed. Same goes for letter or intent he only signed it and i added his name in print on the bottom. Again not a real nice scan job, but i wonder if this will do or should i ask him to re-do all documents over and send them over the mail with original signature?

3. Does my fiance in Jamaica need to send a letter of a story of how we met to add to the i-129f form as i briefly explained met at the house i was vacationing, spend all the time together, went back 2ce since then and spend a vacation in negril together, 3rd time i stayed in his family home. Is that sufficient?

4. Pictures: can i send more than 5 pics? Is pics w glasses ok? Pics with swim suit at the river ok? Pics of us kissing? Or only pics of our faces will do? I mean we r so cute in our glasses w our swimsuits kissing lol

5. I filled out form g-325 online and printed, only thing i did in pen was my signature. Is that okay or should i print it and fill it out by hand?

6. The places where you are supposed to write your alien #, i became us citizen in 2008 and i have naturalization certificate, is that where i find the # i found a # there that starts with A437473 is that my alien # and should i write it in the form or just leave it blank since im sending copies of my certificate and all pages of passport?

Please please someone help answer those questions if you can i really appreciate it. I know is simple things but those are the simple things that can pro long the time it takes t bring ur loved one home.
Thanks

The instructions included with the petition clearly state where to send it. If you read that, you will have your answer.

You can type or handwrite the forms. Many forms don't have enough room anyway for the address so you end up having to write it in or type beyond the space provided.

Any pictures you have of the two of you together will do.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPreparing for the wedding / SSN????
You should be able to find that info. on the Internet by researching state marriage license requirements. In any case, after you arrive, I know it is recommended that you wait about 10 days before applying for a Social Security Number so that your I-94 can be entered into the system. After that, you go to the Social Security office to apply and you'll have the card within 2 weeks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence help..
I went onto my phone company's website and printed every bill I could from as far back as it would let me. It just so happened that I was able to go back to when we met and so I had record of the first phone call. We corresponded mostly through email and online chat so while it sounds like a lot of paper, it wasn't too much. I only printed the bills from the months where we made calls to each other and highlighted those calls on the bills. For emails, I read through all of them and picked out ones that I thought were good to show our love and plans for the future. I chose about 10-15 emails spanning a period of the time we have known each other.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 proof
What stage of the process are you in? For the initial petition approval, you only need to prove that you have met once within the last two years. A lot of people typically print chat logs at the interview stage. Even then, pick portions of 10 or so chats covering different dates to show ongoing communication over a period of time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 or marry and adjust status?
My wife and I went through the same discussion when we were deciding what route to take, though she was in Mexico and I was here. She did not have a visa to come here so the options were to file a K-1 or get married in Mexico. When I found out what the requirements were to get married in Mexico (medicals, permission from government, translating all of my documents into Spanish, planning a wedding, etc.) it would have taken about 6 months before we would have been able to have a wedding and THEN we would start the paperwork to bring her here. It was faster for us to go the K-1 route & in the end, it took 5 months from the time we mailed the petition to approval. I made a trip down there every 3 months to be with her for a week. We then got married her within the 90 days as the K-1 requires and then planned a nice big wedding in Mexico for her family.

It's hard to say what to do. Given how long you've known each other, it might be best to go the K-1 route. Let him go back to his family & you could plan a trip out there to meet them. I think you should meet at least his parents before getting married & make sure that they're OK with him moving his life to the US to be with you. Is he OK with being away from his family and Spain? If you get married and there are issues with the family, it could be a real strain on the marriage. We've all had to endure the wait and thinking back on it, it was nothing!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 Question
Here's some information that I found that helps to answer my question in case anyone else is wondering:

"K visa applicants are encouraged to get the vaccinations required under U.S. immigration law for immigrant visa applicants. Although such vaccinations are not required for K visa issuance, they will be required when adjusting status to that of legal permanent resident following your marriage. Applicants are therefore encouraged to fulfill these vaccination requirements at the time of the medical examination. See Vaccination Requirements for IV Applicants for the list of required vaccinations and additional information."

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 Question

We had the same question. We put no because my FI has no idea if he has a vaccine record and has not yet gotten around to asking his mom if she has one for him so easiest was to just put no.

What did you list for alien registration number? I think there is one on NOA2 but did you put it?

I put no, because I didn't no whether or not we had one. The number on the NOA2 says beneficiary number. If that's it them I wasn't aware.
mugumoguMaleMexico2011-09-01 07:37:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 Question

Before even attempting to answer the question, you first have to figure out if she even has documentation of her vaccines. And the vaccines required (for US immigration) can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/i...vaccination.pdf (table on page 16).

If she does have documentation, then this is what I put in response to that question: "I have had a vaccination record since I was born with all the required vaccinations clearly recorded by a health professional." You can use this as well, as long as everything is true about the beneficiary's vaccination record.

Well, we don't have documentation so maybe I'll just put no.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-260 Question
The question is, "do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with US law?"

My fiancee has received vaccinations, but I don't know that she has proof and frankly I don't even know what vaccinations are required by US law. If I answer yes, I get a popup box asking for an explanation. If I answer no, what happens? Will she need to get vaccinated or will that cause a problem?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHello, new member with some questions.

There's not a whole lot you need to do or can do other than wait. Some people might already start planning a wedding already, but you wouldn't want to go through all that and then run into complications with the process and end up disappointed or adjusting plans. I really didn't start doing anything until I got the NOA 2 petition approval. I sent in our K-1 petition and essentially forgot about it. Back then, it seemed like a loooong wait. Now almost 3 years later, it was nothing - just under 3 months from the time I mailed it to the time out K-1 petition was approved. Once we got the petition approval, I started researching the next steps here on Visa Journey. I had to complete the visa application, schedule our interview appointment and medical screening, and help my now wife prepare for the interview. That might be the best thing you can do is to look into what you need to do next and get an idea for how long the next steps take. Each country has their own process so my timeframes and the things I had to do might be different than what you will need to do. It's good to read everyone's experiences on here and you may answer some additional questions you have in the process. This initial waiting period is the worst part. After your petition is approved, it goes pretty fast!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan my fiancé travel to US for holidays while waiting for the K1 visa?
If your fiance(e) has the proper visa to travel to the US on holiday (or if your country doesn't require a US visa due to the visa waiver program) then he or she has a right to use that visa to come visit. There could potentialy be an issue if the immigration officers determine upon his or her entry that your fiance(e) intends to stay in the US as an immigrant and will not leave after the holidays. That's up to them. If he or she has a round trip ticket showing intention to return home and hasn't made a lot of recent, frequent visits to the US, it should not raise any concerns about your fiance(e) remaining in the US after the holidays.

We got our NOA2 june 3rd. Then my fiance got a notice from the NCV saying our case was foward to the consulate we got that one june 29 th (US address), and the firts of july we got the invitation letter from the consulate (packet3) :). SO you should be getting your NVC letter sometime soon and about 2 weeks later your invitation letter MAYBE sooner good luck! :)

It took a month for us to get our invitation letter (packet 3) my fiance got it in the us address

Thank you! You've been very helpful. I have just one more clarification. You say above that it took about a month to receive yours. We received our NOA2 July 18th and I was told now to wait for a letter from the NVC saying that they have sent everything to the consulate, which takes about a month. Is this the invitation you speak of or is that a separate letter sent directy from the consulate? If separate, then it seems like I should be waiting for 2 letters (one from the NVC and one from the consulate) that supposedly should be arriving at about the same time this month. Is this correct?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to do after you get the NOA2

And from what I remember it will take about a month or two to arrive to the US address (chances are it will not make it to the Mexican address).

Do they send this letter to both addresses? I notice when viewing the timelines of most people, they seem to get an interview about 2 months after receiving the NOA2. Clearly, they must have received this sooner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to do after you get the NOA2
I would like to know what the process is after receiving the NOA2. I saw the K-1 Visa flowchart and it states that my fiancee will receive a packet (Packet 3?) containing a checklist and further instructions. I found a copy of this packet and checklist on Ciudad Juarez's consulate website. It mentions that police records are needed for any place that my fiancee has lived for more than one year since the age of 16. My immigration consultant says that they don't actually need police records AND that the consulate in Juarez does not even send a packet of information. I'm a little confused with all the conflicting information. I know presently that I am waiting for a letter from the NVC stating that they have forwarded everything to the consulate, but after that I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help clear things up for me?

PS - Here is a helpful link for more information: Info. about Immigration Consultants

Basically, it says the main concern is that since immigration consultants do not need certification, anyone can call themselves one so you don't know how experienced they are. In my case, I was referred to my consultant by a recommendation and it was very clear to me as soon as I entered her office that she was experienced. While I was waiting, there were some people from Romania there that she was helping and she said they have been customers of hers for many years. She showed me their pictures and talked to me about how far they have come in the process. I was impressed that she knew them so well and that she dealt with people from so many different countries. She's also bilingual (English and Spanish) and I would think any good consultant would be. The good thing is that they don't charge too much so you actually can afford to shop around if you feel you need to.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHellppp!!!??!!
When I started the process in April, I was wondering the same thing. I did some research on immigration attorneys in my area and wrote down some names and numbers. I realized after a few phone calls that most charge a consultation fee of around $100.00 - $150.00. That's just to meet with them for about an hour to see if they're even right for you. Out of frustration, I did have a consultation with one and paid $130.00. I didn't find the guy that helpful and was out of his office after 30 minutes. I wasn't going to keep paying this fee until I found someone; I would go broke! I even found a guy that has a business in Michigan and handles cases from all over the country. We emailed back and forth for a while and he answered a lot of my questions, but quoted $3000.00 to complete the whole process. From the research I did, this is about what you can expect to pay any immigration attorney for this process. Finally, my foreign fiancee's cousin recommended an immigration consultant that she had used for her husband. I called and met with her. She knows her stuff and it's only $50.00 a visit. I got more out of my first visit with her than I did from the $130.00 half hour visit with the attorney. She answers my questions, helps me fill out the paperwork, tells me how to put the packet together, tells me what to expect, what the next steps are, etc. She even helps with the Adjustment of Status after the visa is obtained. I'm very grateful for her assistance and for the recommendation that led me to her. Immigration consultants are cheaper than attorneys, very knowledgeable, and I would highly recommend using one to help you throughout this process. I'm sure if you do a Google search, you could find some in your area. Best of luck to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1

I just called USCIS and was told that they would look me up after 30 days from the date I filed. Will keep the thread updated as I find out more. We are currently at 20 days so I may be worried for nothing yet but most others who filed around the date we did looks to have received theirs.

Alright. It could just be a technicality, but it sounds like you will get some answers soon. Hopefully it's just a mailing issue and they will have already assigned a receipt number and everything. Let us know!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1

We are coming up to 3 weeks (Friday-2days from now) with no NOA1. I am not questioning whether they received it or not. Obviously they have. I am concerned primarily because I use a post office box for mail. If they mail anything to my home address I won't receive it. This is a common problem for me no matter how obvious I try to be about "DON"T MAIL IT TO MY HOME ADDRESS!"

I've done a bit of research on this and I haven't found anything that would indicate USCIS having a problem with sending mail to a PO Box. If you haven't received anything yet, I would suggest calling them. I found them to be quite helpful when I had to call them once. Your lack of receiving anything could be an indication that they attempted to send mail to your home address in spite of you requesting otherwise. In any case, you haven't received a denial either so that's good news. Chances are, everything is being processed, but they are having difficulty reaching you to advise you of the progress. The good thing is that once you get the NOA1, you can use the receipt number to register your case on their website and sign up for automatic updates. I hope you find out soon!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1
I honestly didn't know you could get a text or email when they receive the petition package! I mailed my I-129F April 29th and saw that the check had been cashed soon thereafer. I got the little green card back with the stamp on it showing they received it on May 3rd. My NOA1 is dated May 5th and I got it in the mail a few days later verifying that it has been received and is in process. I imagine you will get yours soon though you are involved with a different country. Either way, not getting a text or email is nothing to worry about!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBest way to file/Sign paperwork while seperated by long distance?

Thanks Will i be ok without the pictures of her and i together if i have everything else(passport style photo signed paper proof of on going relationship and all the boarding passes for the 3 years ~6)

or will i have to travel and takes pics together i know it's rare but i rarely take pictures thats why we dont have any together.

I don't think the pictures of you and her together are required per the I-129F instructions, but you leave more room for doubt that you have met in person. They might find it a bit strange that you have been together for 3 years and don't have a single photograph together. I think you should try and obtain some pics together as they would be a huge step toward approval in the future.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRecent passport photos?

Ok so i am thinking of having the same passport photos printed of my fiancee that we sent in with the original I-129F packet for her to take to her interview. I know they want recent photos but she looks exactly the same will this be an issue and how recent is recent in the eyes of the U.S government?

I thought about doing the same thing and then I realized that the passport-style photos we sent of my fiancee with the I-129F were not quite 2x2 in size so we will need to get more anyways. Even if your fiancee looks the same, I think it would be worth it to not try to cut any corners. At the least, she will be wearing a different outfit or will have a different expression and it can be argued that they are more recent photographs of her.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSome Advice Please :)

Hi Everybody!

I've been stalking these forums for awhile now and they have been a huge help, but I do need advice on something that i have been SO nervous about. First, here is my story.

I am 17 years old and live in the US. I went to Denmark for my junior year in highschool as an exchange student and met a Danish boy. We have been together for 8 months. He is 18. I brought him home with me with an ESTA and he visited for about a month. We are planning other visits for October and December. I turn 18 in March and he turns 19 in June. I am a straight A student and so is he.

We were looking at student visas but tuition is SO expensive here and it isnt like he has tons of money sitting around to prove he can pay his tuition. He wants to be able to work because, even though he comes from a good family, he just can't sit around and pay tuition.

He is completing his last year of school, and I am completing my senior year.

Our ideal situation is visiting a ton, keep all the plane tickets, evidence that were together while I was in Denmark, our phone logs, bills, letters, etc. and apply for the K-1 when I turn 18. We will have been together for over a year and would have visited 3-4 times. He is from a super nice family and a super nice country so we are hoping that it won't look like a scam.

My parents have money, I am working, his parents have money, and he is working too. WE all make WAY above the poverty line so we will be supported. He will have more opportunities then if he were on a student visa.

The requirements for the K-1 State that you have to be of legal age to marry in both countries, which we will be. But even though we technically meet the requirements is:

1)our young age used against us?

and:

2) if it is used against us, can we overcome that with TONS of proof of a legit relationship because it totally is legit?

3) I know we have to be engaged but will it be "legal" if we get engaged in october? does it look better if we are engaged when I am 17 for 6 months then if we get engaged when I am 18 and are engaged for a couple of months before i petition?

I know it seems silly because we are so young, but he is my first love and I am willing to do anything to be with him. It is kind of like this: "it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all".

I am just so paranoid about being young, even though we are legal.

Can somebody please give us advice????

Thank you SO much. Any advice will seriously be read and considered. I appreciate it TONS. :)

The fact that you're both young is not a factor. Age is only a red flag when there is a huge age gap between the petitioner and the beneficiary (i.e. you're 18 and he's 30). The length of time of your engagement doesn't really matter either. What matters is your ability to prove the legitimacy of your relationship. I'm going through this process as well and I always tell people that the US government assumes every relationship with a foreign national is fraudulent and it's up to you to prove otherwise. Get engaged whenever you want. Just make sure you can see yourself growing old with this person because this is a lengthy and tiring process and it's your love for each other that will get you through it. The government's goal throughout this process isn't to convince you that you're too young to get married, but to make sure that your relationship is legitimate.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI129F Approved, Now waiting for embassy in Costa Rica to recieve the case.. looking for some answers!!!
Well, I'm not with the same country, but the process is generally the same. I did a lot of research prior to starting the K-1 process and discovered that 8 months from start to finish is about what you can expect. The process can go much more quickly or take longer depending on the consulate you're working with and how quickly you respond to the next steps. You will receive an NOA1 next confirming receipt of your petition. Once it's approved, you will receive an NOA2. That's about where I'm at now. What you can do on here is create a timeline and the website will show you timelines of other people that are also going though this process at the same time as you and that also helps to give you a good idea of how long everything will take.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325a for K-1 visa Packet..

Great.

So just one copy for me and one for my fiancee.

If I am currently living outside of the US, but want the mail and notifications to go to the US to my parents house, should I put down my parents US address for present living address? Or my address in Mexico?

Thanks Again..

I believe this is a matter for the I-129F rather than the G-325A. The G-325A only asks about the applicant's residence address for the last 5 years. There, you would put your physical address. I think you would put your mailing address in the US on the I-129F.

Thank yall so much! It's funny how long I have been stressing over this little detail, but now my mind is put at ease.

Also question- I see from the USCIS page that the petition should be filed in Dallas, tx (no matter what state im from) but then i see all the other "lockboxes"- chicago, ..etc.

I just want to clear this up- I WILL be sending it to

The USCIS Dallas Lockbox

For U.S. Postal Service:
USCIS
P.O. Box 660151
Dallas, TX 75266

That's the right address. No matter where you are everything is sent to Dallas, Tx. From there, depending on where you live, they forward your petition to another service center that handles cases from your area. I sent mine to Texas, got the NOA1 about a week later and from there, it went to the California Service Center. Make sure you send it certified mail! Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRed Flags for I-129F Packet...

Hello again....

I am really moving along with my I-129F Packet but I still have a few questions.

I am living and working (i have the appropriate work visa) in Mexico with my fiance and have been for the past year.

#1) In regards to address on the I-129F and G325a..

Will it be a problem if I put my parents address US address on the I-129f and my Mexico address for current address on G-325a?

#2 Work information on G-325a...

Should I put my current job in Mexico on the form for 5 years work information?

#3 I-129F form Part B Questions 12...

Only put something if your fiance is currently in the US? If they have visited before but not their currently put N/A? This is confusing...

Thanks....

With regard to your first question, it is not a problem to put one address on the I-129F and another on the G-325A. Many people put the address that they want everything mailed to on the I-129F application. The G-325A simply asks for residence addresses over the last five years.

For your second question, why not put your job in Mexico? I can't think of a reason not to so long as you have all the proper permissions to be working there. I'm sure they will need proof that you do and you may want to volunteer copies of your work visa with the petition package you send in.

For your third question, you only need to complete item 12 if your fiance(e) is in the US right now. You can put "N/A" if you like. I had some help putting my petition together and my consultant put "not currently in the U.S."

In reference to the response above, getting married in Mexico isn't necessarily cheap or easy. You have to consider the cost of just traveling there for one thing. You have to have all of your documentation (i.e. birth certificates, divorce paperwork, etc.) translated into Spanish by a certified translator, your fiance(e) in Mexico has to obtain permission from the goverment for a foreigner to marry a Mexican national, and you have to have medical tests done in Mexico before you can marry. When all is said and done, it probably takes about the same amount of time.

Yes, do not bind everything together. It just creates work for them when they have to pull everything apart and reassemble it in their own format. All I put on mine was a good old paperclip.
