well, i hope it's not my fault. i'm in line waaaay behind you (just sent packet 3 this week) but i have that kind of luck...whichever line i get it in - it goes slow

the only ones happy about this slow process are the guys i currently work for :(

k

I emailed them back, asking if they had any idea when I might expect an interview date. I was as polite as I possibly could be. :) We'll see if I get an answer other than the boilerplate "sorry, check in again next week" this time.

Based on average processing times that were being shown back when we filed our I-129F, we figured I would be in the US a month ago. :(

and we both know that our very polite is much more polite than theirs ;)

fingers crossed they get the sticks out of their behinds soon. i'd promised work i'd stay until the end of june at any rate, so hopefully i'm out of here not too long after that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting the States

I will be honest with you.My wife is also Canadian and tried to cross into Buffalo NY to catch a flight to come see me.At the time she was my fiance and we had already sent off for her K1 etc.The pettion was already in Montreal. She was stopped at the POE and had one hell(she was held for over 3 hours) of a time. She was turned around and sent back. She was also told that because we had applied for a K1 visa that she could not visit the US untill it was approved. He told her he could of gave her a 5 year ban. That really scared the hell out of us.When she went for her inerview in Montreal the officer new everthing and asked her about it.Once you are waiting for a K1 they think you are trying to move here and just marry.Im not telling you this to scare you or upset you.But if I was you I would 100% not try and come to the USA.From my understanding you are not suppose to visit while waiting for a K1.I know others will tell you different, but im telling you from experiance.Yes I would say you were flagged if they asked for all your information. They will see your K1 pettion in there computers.
Good Luck

yikes! i'm sorry to hear about your troubles! i've crossed over at lewiston about 6x since my application has been sent. 2x for me to fly out and the rest to pick up the boy. never had any troubles although i got a bit nervous the last time taking him back for his return flight when the guy seemed to be typing a lot into his computer, but it was all ok. but now i'm nervous about doing it again...especially since i've turned in packet 3...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved K1 Petitions Being Recalled!

Everyone should relax at least until we get some confirmation of this. How often has consulates given bad information before? It might be a worldwide recall affecting only certain petitions, certain service centers, or even certain staff.

It honestly feels foolish as well. They don't have the petitions at the USCIS? Why not continue to process them in both places, and only issue the visa after both the interview and additional security checks are completed.

I'm going through Vermont/Montreal, so I've emailed them and I'll post here if I get any reply.

this could explain why montreal didn't issue interview dates for a few weeks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresthat was for nothing
as hard as it is, you must have patience. it's not even been 30 days since your noa1. expecting a noa2 that quickly knowing this new law is buggering things up is only setting yourself up for frustration. i had a 130+ day wait for my noa2 so i know how frustrating it is.

this process is slow and stressful ....we should all probably start buying stock in tums and rolaids.

take care.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMY Case GET RECALL after my Interview APPROVED!!!

Someone at Vermont SC should have their head handed to them. They knew this law was coming up and they just kept spitting out the NOA2's. In my mind it is better to have your petition sitting in a service center than have it go throught the whole embassy process only to have it recalled!! I have a list of petitions that I am charting in another thread and other than one from CSC (and that recall was recended a day or two later) all of the recalls are from Vermont. False hope is WORSE than no hope!!!!

i absolutely agree!

so sorry that this has happened to you. i say get on the phone and don't stop pestering until it's fixed!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGoing Out Of
i feel your pain. including an rfe i had a 136 day wait for my noa2. from the start to my interview date will be 250 days. way more than i'd figured on.

when i was waiting for my noa2, i had to stay away from this place for a while. i was getting so frustrated reading about everyone getting their approvals long before me (mostly those pesky vsc folks ;) )

deep breaths and hang on. i'm sure it'll come sooner rather than later. i've my fingers crossed for you.

take care

it was easy peasy and i got the visa!! i blasted through the process in just over 1hour - i started at 8am and was sitting in my car (a 10min walk away) at 9:18 calling the boy!

now the only sucky part is the place i'm moving my mom into won't be ready until august 15 so my planned move date of august 10 is out the window  i should be frustrated though. what's another 2 weeks after 9 looonnnnggggg months?!

good luck to everyone else. chins up - there is a light at the end.

QUOTE (canadian_wife @ Nov 30 2009, 06:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
As a former F-1 in the US, you do not need an interview at a US consulate in Canada. You do, however, need to apply to and be accepted to an accredited US educational institution. The school typically will require that you show you have substantial funds to support yourself while there, this ranges from school to school but is typically around $20,000. This does not mean you have access to it, it means you actually have a bank account showing you have it.

Work visas are hard. You need a US company to sponsor you detailing why they cannot hire a USC for the same job. You cannot apply for a work visa and then just go down there and look for work. The company must have already offered you a position.

Good luck.

Ditto on the work visa. I don't know much about getting them, but I do know a friend that was down here on one and the US refused to renew it. I guess with the current numbers of unemployed it has become very difficult to prove that no citizens can fill positions. It would have been nicer of them to not wait until the last minute and only give him 3 weeks to leave though! LOL

Keep looking around for it. I would say it is unlikely that you threw it away. I lost my original birth certificate, but after 3 full searches of my house, it finally turned up.

Worst case scenario, call up and request another copy?

<WHEW> i just finished my upteenth search and low and behold - i found it! :D good gawd - i'd packed it away in a box for the move with some other papers! very very veryvery relieved. i think i may be able to sleep now.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWowza....
i had my medical before i received my interview date. the office asked when mine was and i told them that all i had was the letter & packet 3 and all was fine. it says you are required to have one in packet 3 and i don't suppose the doctors mind making the money. ;) results are valid for 6 months (if i remember correctly) so no worries getting done sooner than later.

as for timing, it may depend on where you are planning to get the medical done and how busy they may be. i could have had my appt. the same week i called.

hope this helps.

CanadaExporting my car to the states

Brunette,

How much will it cost you to export your Acura from BC to WA?
I live in Vancouver and will be moving to Seattle in a few months, just wondering what kind of fees/charges you have to pay when you register your car in WA, both DMV and insurance.
I’ve got the Honda Civic 97, with low km and it may not be worth paying too much money to register it in USA,
I may be better off selling it and buying a new vehicle in USA.

Do you have to pay tax on it?
Any other fee?

Thanks,

Vox

omg...my head is starting to hurt w/ all this stuff we have to think about! a quick google and i found this site http://www.foreignbo...tingyourcar.htm . says there that nonresidents are duty exempt if it's arriving for personal use. not sure if that applies to us or not. but if not, it says 2.5% for cars. still poking around some and i'm going to call a few folks that have gone thru this before to see what they experienced.

CanadaK1 visa stress leading to odd dreams
well, a bit less stress now that we've received the RFE, but last night i was dreaming that in order to cross the border i had to golf a hole at 1 under par! i have no idea why - i don't golf! but it was rather stressful as i kept trying and trying and the customs guy just kept shaking his head and said 'try again!'

heck, this process is less stressful than me trying to hit a golf ball.

CanadaQuestions about info needed once NOA 2 is received

Hi guys. I know I'm jumping the gun here and I've got quite a while before we'll even get our NOA2 but I want to be as prepared as possible when it happens.

Can anyone tell me exactly who and where my fiance needs to contact to get the police records? He lives in Toronto. Also, any idea on how long it normally takes to get them and how much it costs?

Something else I've been wondering is about the info the co-sponsor and I have to get from the bank officials concerning the money in my bank account for the past year. What exactly does the consulate want to see? Is it deposits only?

Thanks

As long as it's a name based police certificate (no prior criminal record), if your fiancee lives in Toronto, they will get their Police Certificate from the local Commissionaires office.
www.commissionaries.ca

They will not process the police certificate until you get Packet 3. I believe it costs $25.

The requirements for the bank letter can be found on the instructions to the I-134. It's pretty clear...

i didn't need packet 3 to get it done. just went in and told them what i needed it for. this has reminded me that i need to go pick it up tho. :)

CanadaRCMP record check
Kim...

Do you have a police record... if not, you DO NOT have to have the fingerprint check done. Only a Name based chack from the RCMP. It does not take 150 days... it takes like 20 minutes...
[/quote]

thanks zyg. i think i've found where to get that done. lady that answered the phone at the RCMP office this afternoon was MUCH more helpful and knowledgeable than the gent that answered this morning.

CanadaRCMP record check

if you have only lived in Canada since you were 16, you need to ask for the "Canada wide Name Check", this will cover all the provinces you have lived in.....

I am not sure about the different names though....

does it have to be from the RCMP? i've got a CPIC clearance check from my local that is canada wide.

k

Packet 3 specifically asks for an RCMP Police Certificate. However, others have gotten though with a local certificate that states that it was based on a CPIC Canada Wide Search. However, there are no guarantees that the CO will accept it.

this is nice. 6 month waiting list to just get my bloody prints done. no queue jumping allowed :crying: then the 150 days wait from the rcmp. so i guess i don't care how long the csc is taking now
