PhilippinesCan A Filipina Really Be Taught How to Drive? A Car?

The way this topic is phrased it makes it sounds like an entire country of women are driving challenged. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say "my wife" vs. generalizing?

Uhhhhhhh, no.

Hello guys! I'm a newcomer here. I would love to meet friends here especially those who are Pinays like me. My husband and I live in the wine country of the United States. The nearest city is Sebastopol in Northern California. -- Marie

My sweet little Claudeth is a wonderful, giving woman but is also the most irresponsible person I have ever met in my life. I never seen anyone melt a bar of soap before but she does it. She can plug up the shower drain quickly and just loves to take 30 or 45 minute showers twice a day. She leaves the lights on constantly and the refrigator open all the time. She will fill her plate full of food and eat about 1/4 of it and the rest goes in the trash.

I am totally at my wits end. I have been dealing with this for 4 1/2 years but have made no progress in teaching her conservation. I love her very much and would never dream of getting rid of her but have been thinking of sending her to the Philippines for a visit.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have heard comments off and on but nothing consistant with what my little consumer does.

4 and a half years... wow!.... Is she helping out with the bills and grocery shopping? Sometimes when people have to pay for things, then they will learn how to appreciate it better.

She is helping to make the bills wacko.gif

laughing.gif I'll say your Claudeth is quite a handful. She needs spanking. laughing.gif

Thanks guys. With the number of applicants that day, I don't think USCIS will wait until they reach a certain number of approval.

You might be Filipino if you go swimming in the river or in the beach and you carry an umbrella with you because you don't want to become negra.

You might be a Filipino when you are nagulat and you say "Hay kabayo!"

You might be a Filipino if you ask your relatives from the Philippines to send you a bunch of "butong pakwan, kornik and mixed nuts. He he he!

You might be Filipino if you have in your cable "TFC".

You might be Filipino if when you hug each other you make "ugoy-ugoy" with your bodies.

PhilippinesWhat did I do wrong?

You think that's healthy? That's sounds to me like emotional withdrawal. It might be cultural that Filipinos generally shy away from confrontation, but I can see that trait being exploited and interpreted as emotional immaturity (she's can't handle the tough issues within the marriage), while the husband can just take it on the chin.

Excuse me Mr. Fancypants. I don't think I like being called emotionally immature. We have our way of doing things. Perhaps you should respect that. I call it "lambing" when I make tampo. It's like, "If I didn't love you, I would probably kill you for the slight." Just feel lucky that your wife still loves you.

Lol! This topic has made me laugh now for days! For all the white American Philippine culture experts that have posted, tampo or tampon whatever!! It's all BS!! Man and Woman in a marriage is the same all over the world. If a man pisses in a woman's cheerios or vce versa, there is going to be attitudes about it. the Op was on an important business call, his wife was talking to loud, he asked her to shut her face, she got mad. Asian, African, Canadian, European or American, it doesn't matter.

Right! Goodluck with your marriage.

PhilippinesWhat did I do wrong?
I also make tampo once in a while, but I do not resort to violence. I just keep quiet and wanted to be alone. I don't know what's wrong with her. Probably because of the surgery the reason why she went crazy. I don't want to break thing either because we have this Filipino belief that breaking things is a bad omen. And expensive to break a computer or a laptop when throwing tantrums. And my husband won't replace anything I break. :crying: I just make tampo when hubby would hurt my feelings and won't apologize. Darn it! We have our pride too!

PhilippinesWhy a Girl from the Philippines

I'm 4 feet 11.5 inches (and with shoes I'm 5 feet or more so I just round up, but I still get teased by my hubby for the extra half inch), wears an american size 4.5 shoes and a waistline of 25-28. I have a lot of experience having a lot of trouble shopping for my size here. Most stores don't even carry women's shoes under size seven. I'd often end up on the girls and boys sections, and it's tough trying to buy something that doesn't have room for hips or boobs.

For my wedding shoes, I spent almost two months going around all the stores (small and big) for something white to fit me. In the end, I found an old dusty one (and with a little scratch too), and I had to buy it because it was the closest thing to a good one that I could get. It was only $7, because it was a display, old, dusty and with a small scratch.

Most of what I'm wearing now are still my clothes that I shopped in the Philippines exactly a year ago. I regret not trusting my instinct of shopping for more and paying the extra $200 for an extra box of luggage in the plane. Now, I had to ask my sister to send me more toe-socks, mittens and thermal underwear from home and pay Fed-Ex five thousand pesos to send it here. I'm also have almost given up shopping here, and I'll just wait until we go home to the Phils next year for our big wedding, and then I could go shopping there even if I have to pay for two extra boxes in the plane. (So girls, learn from my experience and spend those extra dollars on shopping there and extra luggage fees).

And no, even if my grandparents were both professional tailors and my Dad and Uncle knew how to sew anything, I don't have any talent nor the skill for even the simplest of repairs. My gradeschool and highschool T.H.E. projects on sewing and knitting looks like they were done by someone with toes instead of fingers. I'm also super clumsy, so I stay away from sharp things as much as possible. I was just billed over $2K three months ago by the hospital who had to stitch the side of my palm when I accidentally sliced it deeply with a small knife. :-(

I don't think you can find toe socks, mittens and thermos in the Philippines. It doesn't get cold that much there unless you go to Baguio. When I arrived here in 2007, I got a care package from my friend in Texas. She sent me those slipper socks, mittens, beanies and bunch of sweaters and long johns. Walmart sells them for a cheaper price. No use shopping in the Philippines for these stuff. It's gonna cost you more if you can find them there.

PhilippinesFilipino Attitudes

1. Arrogant, pompous or boastful is what you call someone you don't like. What arrogant to you maybe just be fine ok, fun, confident or simply intimidating to somebody else.
2. They may have been surrounded by "pompous" people too and kinda adapted that attitude.
3. Because when they come back to the Philippines, people here kisses their a$$.
4. It could be a defense mechanism because they avoid money bloodsuckers.

Unless your relatives are also well off, then there's not much to worry. When you come for a visit, they are really sincerely there to see you and not after your pasalubong but if you are the only loaded one, expect plastic people that if you are not giving them something anymore- you suddenly become arrogant but some months ago, you are their hero.

This topic is a cliche. Been there, done that, got the stains on the t-shirt to prove it. Suck it up. Filipinos have been like that since time immemorial. I am not surprised anymore if they act pompous, arrogant and conceited.

PhilippinesMarrying girlfriend who is in US and pending annulment

Hello everyone, this place is mind boggling with all the information and because of that I was hoping one of you guys could make it simple for me.

My fiancee is here on a J-1 VISA (teacher student exchange) and her last year of eligibility will be June of 2013. We've been together for over a year now and she lives with me here in Houston.

She is going to be working on getting an annullment from her husband starting next month back in the Phillipines so we can get married.

First of all, how does she get an annullment, and how long does it take?

Once we are free to marry how long will it take get her status so that she doesn't hve to go back to the Phillipines and can begin her process to becoming a US citizen.

I know she has to get an Adjustment of Status and then her Green Card, but will she have to get her K-1 visa before all of that, or since she's already here inthe US can she go straight to the Adjustment of Status procedure and then on to getting her Green Card?

And if possible, what is the approzimate timeframe for all that we need to do?

And finally, should we get an attorney to help us do all of this, or can we do it on our own?

Sorry for all the questions, it just that I want to make sure we do this right the first time because the last thing I want to do is jeopardize losing the love of my life due to beaurocracy.

Thanks in advance, I can't wait to post our success story on here like the rest of you lucky guys.

I wish you luck guys with the annulment process and everything. Doesn't matter if she gets a divorce or annulment, doing the right thing, that's a good start.

PhilippinesThings you find na kakaiba sa US of A

*LOL*

Just say "Estoy Bien, Me No Speakin' Igles" then they will leave you alone unless you live in Southern California or Texas then you are in trouble.

It is fun to mess with them. I went to Food Lion, place here in North Carolina where we shop for food and the cashier asked me did I find everything okay? I was like no. That completely stumped her. I guess it wasn't in the orientation to respond to such a rhetorical question.

I find it weird that the Mexicans always mistook me as one of them. They walk up to me and start speaking in Spanish. When I got here in 2007, all I know what to say is "Hola", "Como estas", "gracias" and "Adios". Now, I can speak conversational Spanish. Learned a lot from the Mexicans at work. They always say them everyday anyways. My Mexican friend even told me that I speak more Spanish than her husband. Wouldn't hurt to learn a new language and I learned it here in the US of A.

Mga namamalimos sa Pinas nanlilimahid. Dito naman ang gaganda ng mga suot. Kunwari "stranded daw at need gas money" Pero huwag ka broke sila. As in dead broke.

Agree on this. Aside from that, sa work pagdating sa umaga, halos lahat ng ka-work say "Good Morning", and then kapag pauwi na "See you later" or "See 'yah Guys". Not sure pero siguro sa nature ng work ko, when talking to old acquaintance, "What's up dude". Not usually common practice sa Pilipinas.

I was watching old case files or reality tv. Sabi ko sa asawa ko, "Most of the time, mga tao dito pumapatay kasi they are mentally challenged or insane, sa Pilipinas, pumapatay sila kasi walang choice, kailangan nila mag-survive (ex. holdaper).

One more thing, yong coupon that you can get from newspaper, if you good enough to use it, it pay off almost half of the cost of your groceries. Walang ganyan sa Pilipinas. Hehehe.

I've been here for almost 5 years, but the coupons I get give me a dollar or 50 cents off and I need to purchase at least 2 for me to get $2 off. Anyway, yeah you are right. Hindi uso ang coupons sa Pinas.

There's a bunch of them serial killers and ax murderers here because they are sick in the head. Sa Pilipinas the holdapers have no choice but to kill their victims para hindi kumanta.

For Pinays only. Say anything you find strange (kakaiba), weird, different pagdating niyo sa US of A. Dumating ako dito in the Fall. Kakaiba ang weather. Sobrang lamig na sa akin ang Fall time nila dito. But I am finally acclimated after 4 years. Ang mga Americans mahilig magsabi ng "Hi" and "How are you" parang mga robot. Naka program na sa ulo nila kaya kahit hindi nakatingin sa'yo "hi and "How are you pa rin sila  which I find it weird.

I was speaking about the woman in the video, pero tu senorita es muy bonita tambien. I watch Rosalinda on the local channels here, and Manana Es Para Siempre as well.

A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak.

After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done.

The monsignor replied, "When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. if I start to get nervous, I take a sip."

So next Sunday he took the monsignor's advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm.

Upon his return to his office after mass, he found the following note on the door:

1. Sip the Vodka, don't gulp.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ####.
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J. C.
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook.
8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the ###### out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ####.
10. We do not refer to the cross as the "Big T."
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said, "Take this and eat it for it is my body." He did not say "Eat me"
12. The Virgin Mary is not called "Mary with the Cherry,"
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, yeah God.
14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter's, not a Peter pulling contest at St. Taffy's!

DIFFERENT WAYS OF LOOKING AT THINGS
(Or the uncertainty of the English language)
Two guys were discussing popular family trends on sex, marriage, and family
values.
Stu said, 'I didn't sleep with my wife before we got married, did you?'
Leroy replied, 'I'm not sure, what was her maiden name?'

---------------------------------------------------------
A little boy went up to his father and asked: 'Dad, where did my
intelligence come from?'
The father replied. 'Well, son, you must have got it from your mother,
cause I still have mine.'

---------------------------------------------------------
'Mr. Clark, I have reviewed this case very carefully,' the divorce Court
Judge said, 'And I've decided to give your wife $775 a week,'
'That's very fair, your honor,' the husband said. 'And every now and
then I'll try to send her a few bucks myself.'

---------------------------------------------------------
A doctor examining a woman who had been rushed to the Emergency Room, took
the husband aside, and said, 'I don't like the looks of your wife at all.'
'Me neither doc,' said the husband.
'But she's a great cook and really good with the kids.'

-----------------------------------------------------------
An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has
been living with for the last 40 years.
The Wizard says, 'Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that
were used to put the curse on you.'
The old man says without hesitation, 'I now pronounce you man and wife.'

----------------------------------------------------------
Two Reasons Why It's So Hard To Solve A Redneck Murder:
1. The DNA all matches.
2. There are no dental records.

----------------------------------------------------------
A blonde calls Delta Airlines and asks, 'Can you tell me how long it'll take
to fly from San Francisco to New York City ?'
The agent replies, 'Just a minute.'
'Thank you,' the blonde says, and hangs up.

----------------------------------------------------------
Two Mexican detectives were investigating the murder of Juan Gonzalez.
'How was he killed?' asked one detective.
'With a golf gun,' the other detective replied.
'A golf gun! What is a golf gun?'
'I don't know. But it sure made a hole in Juan.'

-----------------------------------------------------------
Moe: 'My wife got me to believe in religion.'
Joe: 'Really?'
Moe: 'Yeah. Until I married her I didn't believe in Hell.'

----------------------------------------------------------
A man is recovering from surgery when the Surgical Nurse appears and asks
him how he is feeling.
'I'm O. K. but I didn't like the four letter-words the doctor used in
surgery,' he answered.
'What did he say,' asked the nurse.
'Oops!'

------------------------------------------------------------
While shopping for vacation clothes, my husband and I passed a display of
bathing suits. It had been at least ten years and twenty pounds since I had
even considered buying a bathing suit, so sought my husband's advice.
'What do you think?' I asked. 'Should I get a bikini or an all-in-one?'
'Better get a bikini,' he replied. 'You'd never get it all in one.'
He's still in intensive care.

....................................................................
The graveside service just barely finished, when there was a massive clap of
thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning, accompanied by even
more thunder rumbling in the distance.
The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, 'Well, she's
there.'

PhilippinesPhilippine debt

My wife ran a loan business in the Philippines. Those that did not pay their loans and refused to make arrangements to pay did get cases filed on them. Once they found the person who owed the debt, they could have the police arrest them. I would assume any case the police could make an arrest on would show up on the NBI report. There were costs involved to the loan firm for all this, as the courts don't work for free and neither do the police, so it was only used when no other option was available. Mostly they just continued to try to get the debt paid or some form of collateral they could sell if the customer could never make good on the debt. Digital cameras, TV's, scooters, high end cell phones, were constantly be held when people didn't pay.

Any person owing money is protected by the constitution of the Philippines. No person shall be imprisoned for non-payment of debt or poll tax. The creditor can always sue that person in court. But that person cannot go to jail.
