Lira lives in the interior of Alaska. Gets down to -50 F in normal winters, as low as -65 F or colder in the really good ones. Not wind chill. Raw temperature.

We live in the forest about 35 miles from town. Here she is running a D-3 bulldozer clearing the road to our cabin:

A skid-steer (some call it a bobcat, which is a brand of skid steer):

Cutting with a chain saw (we heat with wood):

She can handle a .44 magnum pistol:

Her doggy Torque, who weighs 30 lbs more than she does:

Sleeping with a grizzly bear hide blanket (husband shot this bear in self defense)

Oh, then there's her husband. Renegade Bush Pilot:

Pretty much the same life she had in the Philippines.

She has a blog at

http://alaskafilippina.blogspot.com/

It's freakin' cold out there. I won't survive the winter. I'm a wuss. laughing.gif no0pb.gif Must be tough navigating your way through the snow using that bulldozer eh? Have you seen any mooses?

Hello friends,

There are so many ways to address our loved ones. We can call them by their first names or by any other name, especially in times of rage, passion, happiness, loss, need or what have you. I call my husband honey or hon, but when I’m in a bad mood I roar with his first name – Eduardo. At the height of passion, I yell “honey”, spiced with various interjections! How about you?

We call each other "beybi ko". When he pissed me off, I call him "Bugoy". When he is the one who is pissed off with me, he only says, "damn it!"

Also, her friend told her that she has to fast for SLEC exam. I told her that is not true, but she is believes she must fast.

My wife insisted on getting there so early (like 6/7am) even though I pointed out to her several posts here about going at noon instead.

In the end all I could do was be there to listen to her vent about how much she hated the process.

Pinays are some awesome women but when they get an idea in their head you'll never change it, not even with a notarized letter from God.

I can't say for sure if it's better to go later, just that if she's dead-set on going early don't make an argument over it.

I thought we only get weird looks in the Philippines about a tall American with a short Pinay?

Here there are 3 main reasons we will get weird looks and stared at:

1. American Women: They seem angry that we found our Love elsewhere.

2. American Men: They seem jealous that our Love is so Young & Beautiful.

3. Everyone: They seem to think that maybe our Love isn't of Legal Age and we must be Dirty Perverts.

To each of them I say this:

1. American Women: I don't choose who I Love, I was lucky enough to have the resources to go to the ends of the earth in my search and luckier that I didn't have to go all they way but was able to get off at the last exit before the end which is the PH wink.gif

2. American Men: STFU and get your own!

3. Everyone: Ha ha ha, sure I'm a Dirty Pervert but only with my Pinay Wifie who by the way is of legal age {even if only barely} devil.gif

Seriously, I seldom let the ignorance & jealousy of others impact my life.

Ha ha ha! That's a good one. yes.gif

  • chopped garlic - 5 cloves
  • tomato sauce
  • ground black pepper
  • bay leaf/laurel or basil - chopped

DIRECTIONS:

Alam ko ground beef with mushroom, pepper and salt and some vegetable spicies... and bread..instant humburger na... smile.gif

Ground pork, masarap yan na gawing torta..

Tortang talong with ground pork (my own version)..

gisa the bawang at sibuyas then ground pork, add pepper and salt to taste... set aside
grill talong until soft.. wag lang sunugin smile.gif . Peel off the skin... set aside
in a bowl, scramble 2 pieces of egg, then put the bare talong. Make sure to flatten the bare talong. Place the cooked ground pork on the surface of the talong. Make sure that the talong and pork are fully coated with egg. set aside

prepare your frying pan, place oil, make sure that the pan is hot, then place the whole thing: egg, talong and ground pork
I normally buy talong from safeway. Safeway has chinese and japanese talong. They even have the small round talong..

Another recipe is ginisang ground pork sa gulay (my mom's version).

gisa bawang and sibuyas then ground pork, place salt and pepper. add pork broth (i use pork knorr dissolved in water) add gulay (i.e. kalabasa or ampalaya), simmer for few minutes.. add pepper and salt to taste.

I love species.. I dont have proportion for species.. i just add them then taste the food.. If i like the taste... its ready for serving. If not, i just tell my husband that the food is awful but he has no choice but to eat them. LOL...

Hamburger nga ang madalas na lutuin ko dito pero nakakasawa din kapag palagi na lang yun. Wow, mukhang masarap nga yang tortang talong with ground pork. I need to buy talong. OO nakakita nga ako ng bilog na talong sa Safeway at matingkad ang kulay. Ibang klase talong nila dito bilugan at maiksi. Thanks Rheanick!

Chicken Curry Recipe (Filipino Style)

Ingredients :

• 2-3 tbsp. oil
• 3 potatoes, peeled, quartered and fried
• 1 lb. chicken, cut into serving pieces
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 large onion, quartered
• 1 tbsp. patis (fish sauce) ( In lieu of patis, I used fish broth cube.)
• 3 tbsp. curry powder
• salt and pepper
• 1 cup water
• 1 red bell pepper, cut into big squares
• 1 green bell pepper, cut into big squares
• 3 celery stalks, cut into 1-1/2" long
• 1 cup coconut milk or evaporated milk

Cooking Procedures :

1. Pan fry potatoes. Set aside.

2. In the same pan, fry chicken pieces and brown a little.

3. Add garlic and onion. Sauté for a few minutes until soft.

4. Pour in patis and season with curry powder, salt and pepper. Stir for 2 minutes.

5. Add water. Cover and bring to a boil. Lower the heat; add celery, bell peppers and fried potatoes. Simmer for 3 minutes or until half done.

6. Add milk and stir occasionally. Cook for another 7 minutes (or lesser when using evaporated milk because the liquids will curled).

7. Remove from heat. Serve hot.

I might try this one here. I love chicken curry. Thanks.

PhilippinesTampo: What is the record?
Hi. This is Mr. Bill's better half. I have planned a perfect birthday celebration for Mr. Bill last Sunday and he was not cooperating. Worse thing is he got sick on his birthday. I wanted to buy him lunch, before going to work that day, but he didn't feel like going out. So I was mad at him! mad.gif headbonk.gif Mr. Bill ruined my plans.

I went for a walk this morning and I realized I went that far and I was too tired making the trek all the way back. I was exhausted, starving and I just want to go home and eat something. I really wanted to go and take the bus going to Santa Rosa and have lunch there with my friend, but then I didn't know what time the bus is arriving at the nearest bus stop. So I had to call Mr. Bill to come and pick me up and make lambing for the nth time. But I insisted that he still owe me lunch. laughing.gif

Hi!

I am thinking of posting information about getting SSN or changing names, when you enter as K1-Visa. This information might helps other esp those who enter with K1-Visa.

Well, I got my SSN before my wedding. It took 2 weeks after our wedding when we received our marriage certificate. So, as soon as we got it, we went to the SSN office to change my maiden name to married name. But the guy at SSN office told me that he couldn't change it anymore because the system would not allow it anymore. He told us that I should had change my name, 14 days before my 90-days expired or else I have to wait for my green card or EAD to change it. Well, our marriage certificate arrived within the 14 days before my 90-days expire, and besides I didn't know that I have to change my name 14 days before 90-days expiration.

Anyway, I hope this information is useful to some. smile.gif

Interesting information....

Were you able to change your name on SSN 14 days before 90 Days expires? (since you do not say on your post)

or are you waiting for green card or AED?

thanks....

Nope.... I couldn't change it until I receive my EAD or green card 'coz we tried to change it in less than 14 days.

I just sent my AOS package last Friday and my 90-days will expire this coming Thursday.

Right on. I didn't change my last name to my married name until I got my EAD because I needed to show them SSS folks a valid ID.

PhilippinesHow much time to allot for POE on her flight to USA??
The plane arrived before 8pm on a Saturday night at SFO. I was the last one through customs and that was 2 1/2 hours later. I finally met my fiancee at the arrival area 10:30. I think we were the last international flight. When I cleared immigration, my bags were waiting for me at the custom's office. I had no trouble with customs. There was just a long line because everybody gets off the 747 at the same time. That's a lot of people.

We'll drive to the coast early Saturday morning, stopping by the Indian casinos on I-10 and hit the tables. Then, to Universal Studios Hollywood and Malibu Beach! star_smile.gif

You're gonna love Malibu. Been there three times and I loved every minute of it. We made a stop at the Our Lady of Malibu church, had breakfast at the Malibu Inn twice, took some pictures of the beach and then drove over to the Santa Monica Pier.

The long holiday weekend starts. San Diego and Rosarito and Ensenada, here we come again!

How about you, my friends? Where and how will you spend the Labor Day weekend?

I'll be at the links tomorrow to chase birdies, on the lake with the missus on Sunday for some crappie and to the mall and the movies, with the missus again, on Monday. What a wonderful life, ain't it? good.gif

Yes, what a wonderful life indeed. Carpe diem! Have a wonderful labor day weekend. The happy campers are driving to the wine country of Napa tomorrow for one of our friends birthday celebration. Looking forward for tomorrow.

My nephews daughter, she is only 2 1/2 years old ( from husband's side) will undergo brain surgery tomorrow. We were there to visit her today and my heart just goes out to her and the family. She is too young to undergo such a delicate operation.

Please say a prayer for her ( her name is Haley)

Tomorrow is definitely a labor day for me since I will be working.

I hope the surgery goes well for your Haley. She is too young to go under the blade. We will pray for her. Have a wonderful labor day weekend. Don't work too hard.

Labor Day: How it Came About; What it Means

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Founder of Labor Day

More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.

Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

The First Labor Day

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Husband and I went to church this morning and then stopped by the Mekong (Asian) market. We ended up bringing home a pound of fresh Tilapia. On Labor day, friend of ours celebrating his birthday. We are driving over to Napa to see my Pinay friend and her American husband. star_smile.gif

PhilippinesDo we get any "Evidence" back from USEM
For K-1, they kept all the documents, and some of the evidence. Most of the evidence they gave back, because there was too much. Then when I got my pink slip, they gave me back all my pictures and postcards, and the emails, and the letters. They gave me back everything except the documents. They kept all those.

I looked through the hole in the packet they sent me, and I saw all the stuff, the pictures, and everything that my fiance sent the USCIS, and our letters of intent to marry as well he sent them.
