Hello guys! I just had a conversation with my friend who lives in New York City. She was asking me if her boyfriend can come to the United States on a tourist visa. Here is her situation. She came here on a K-1 visa in October 2007. She got married in December 2007, filed for her AOS and as soon as she got her green card, she left her husband and flew to New York City to visit a friend. She never came back. She said her husband knew everything about her that she only married him so that she can come to the United States and get a green card and that she has a boyfriend in the Philippines. mad.gif devil.gif And now she wants the BF to come and join her in NYC on a tourist visa. She needs help getting her boyfriend in the United States. I told her the boyfriend can apply for a tourist visa. The question is with no strong tie to the Philippines except his job as a police officer, will the embassy give him a visa?

She is one of the great b*thc*s in the world. What she needs to wait is for her karma.
Geez, she is disgusting..And how could someone who has a fully functional brain can even ask this forum on how to help a friend who commit visa fraud. I think the person concern and the friend is just brain damage.

Right. I think she has brain damage. I told her about "karma". She is one stubborn woman. I told her coming here on a K-1 visa is one thing and wanting the BF to come and join her is BS. My husband told me stay away from her. Do not talk to her anymore because she is evil woman. Oh well, thanks guys for giving me these nice replies. I am no expert about this, but you gave me a lot of answers for her. Oh, I forgot to tell you. She is from Cebu.

Most people post negative things. regarding visa process. So i think now it will be great to post and hear stories from different people who are now enjoying life with their husband.. How are you guys coping with place, food, weather, relationship, inlaws.etc..?

I am wondering about those people who were once active in the VJ community and now we seldom see them online..

Peeps, now its a great time tto share stories..

I've been here for more than a year now (just less than 13 months) and I'm getting ready to celebrate our first wedding anniversary in three days (October 24) being married to the love of my life. The scariest part was the flying to the US alone. But when I saw my future hubby at the San Francisco International Airport, everything was fine. My husband is not rich, but we're not poor. But my relatives back in the Philippines they think we are rich.

So far these are my accomplishments.

1. I've been working for almost a year now in retail sales doing customer service.
2. I am still learning how to drive.
3. I'm learning Spanish with the help of my hubby, books and audios and with the help of my Latino co-workers.
4. I'm learning to cook all the Filipino recipes I never learned in the Philippines. My pansit is a big hit at work. The white people love my pansit.
5. I already met all my husband's relatives. We had a big reunion in May 2008. They accepted me as a member of the family and made me feel welcomed.
5.Me and my husband are members of the Filipino-American Community in Sonoma County and we get together for special events.
6. We found a good Catholic church where the reverend is cool and he plays the organ during mass.
7. This is the second Halloween for me.
8.We found a good Asian store where I get my pansit noodles, Datu Puti vinegar, Silver Swan soy sauce and Rufina patis.

Things I have yet to accomplish:

1. Get my driver's license.
2. I haven't seen snow yet.
3. Curve a jack-o-lantern.
4. Have a baby maybe.
5.Find a better paying job with full medical and dental benefits.

Some bad things about my experience.

1. I miss my family. I missed my brother's wedding last October 15 in Manila.
2. It's so cold in the winter and so hot in the summer. I am not acclimated yet.
3. During the Springtime, I got hay fever. I hate it.
4. Everything is expensive in California. If you try to keep converting everything in peso, you'll go crazy.
5.Relatives always asking for money. My husband is not happy about it.

Can't enjoy the beach either because even summer I still find it cold sad.gif I still like PI weather..nothing beats the tropical weather we have back home.

Yeah, nothing beats the weather in the Philippines. As Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) supposedly said once, " The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

Crazy, huh? I guess I just miss the Philippines maybe. Some things only. I don't miss the "lamok" helpsmilie.gif But I love the beach. We live in the coast (Bodega Bay and Dillon beach are close by). My husband would take me with him whenever he gets to work in these places on my days off. Love the scenery. It's only cold when the wind blows and in the morning. My husband calls me a wussy because I'm still not acclimated after being here for more than a year now. Please share your experience during your first fall and winter in the United States. We live in northern California where you don't get to see snow in the winter, but it is freaking cold and frosty in the morning. The closest thing I have experienced when it comes to seeing snow are ice frost on top of the roof of our house. I have yet to see a real snow I guess. Instead of buying thermal clothes for me, he ended up buying an electric blanket to keep me warm during the night. It was the start of the fall season when I arrived in the United States. I was always wearing pyjamas, sweaters and slipper socks during the day. Some days were rainy, some days were stormy and some days were foggy. The tulley fogs sometimes can get worse specially when you are driving on the road on a foggy night. Don't like Winter much. But Fall is okay. How about you?

Hi sonomacountygal,

If you have a centralized heating then turn it on instead of wearing lots of clothes. In your place is not very cold unlike other places here in the US. I'm in Texas and winter season is always cold. We had snow a lot in the past winter (it's my 4th winter) since I got here. The wind made the winter season worse... it's so cold when the wind is blowing specially if the wind is blowing from the North. We just had our first freeze last Wed. Anyway, I'm very comfortable at home just wearing shorts and t-shirts even if it's really cold and the snow is very thick outside blush.gif . In Panhandle Texas the weather is unpredectable the wind is almost constantly blowing everyday/everynight. My hubby used to tease me to put rocks on my pockets. I had experienced of 8 years of the winter and 4 years of winter with lots of snow. And I love to play with the snow. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif
I love fall it's my favorite season of the year! good.gif good.gif good.gif

Keep warm and hoping you'll get use to the winter season....

Take care always!

Thanks guys for the nice replies. We still have to turn on our thermostat when it gets colder. Right now, we're just contented to seat near the wood stove. Yeah, it would be nice to cuddle with your loved one when it's cold. brrr!!!

My second question needs an "immigration myth buster" cool.gif
Is there a tax/fee to be paid at the POE? I have never heard of such action; but, Merlywinda is deluged with all sorts of rumors and 3rd hand information.

Much Appreciated for your assistance wink.gif

Both me and my hubby took PAL. Go online to their website. Buy in advance, and you get a competitive price and fly non-stop from Manila to SFO.

No fee or tax at SFO. Airport tax and immigration fee at MNL.

Hi All,

Recently my fiancee and I married. We are filing the AOS paperwork and wanted to to also have her name changed to her married name on her Philippines passport to avoid any possible problems when we travel outside of the country next year. Can anyone tell me exactly how one would go about doing this? Thanks.

Sincerely,

DW

I would advise you wait until your wife changes status to change her name, there is no rush on that, its easier when you get your C green card then you change it here in the usa and also get your SSN and then change her name. its going to be a hasse with paperwork and documents you will submit for AOS, WAIT get your green card, then change your name, remember all the documents you will submit will have her name on it, its just going to be easier.
She can have a new passport with your name on it from Her embassy in a week, just finish with AOS before you incure more bills and investigations.Remember she has no legal USA documentations yet, so you might have a few bumps,no State ID and all that, she might have to present just more than her passport and marriage certificate when she wants to take up your name. It takes a couple of hours to do this in the usa, just go to any district court and they will tell you about the process. goodluck in your journey

Thanks for the information. My wife and I had already applied for her name to be changed on her SS card. Will this cause a problem when we file the AOS forms? We will wait to change the name on the passport until after everything is completed with the AOS.

You won't have any problem when you do the change of status. The name you choose to put on the forms when you file for your EAD and AOS are what becomes your legal married name later.

PhilippinesFiance Waiver
QUOTE (Racerly @ Nov 3 2008, 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Anyone here ever use a fiance waiver in US Embassy of Manila? Do they even offer that?

The consular officer adjudicates the application based on the visa interview, documents submitted by the applicant and any relevant information available to the Embassy. The consular officer determines the applicant’s eligibility to be issued the K visa. If the application is approved, the visa will be delivered to the applicant's residence by a guaranteed courier service in 7 to 10 days. If the consular officer determines that the applicant is not eligible for visa issuance, this will be explained to the applicant who will be provided a written refusal sheet that informs her/him:

1) how the visa refusal may be overcome with additional documentation or information;

2) to await notification from the Embassy if the case will require further review; or

3) the basis for the determination of a visa ineligibility under U.S. immigration law and if a waiver of ineligibility is available.

I got this from the website of the US Embassy in Manila. Hope this helps.

You have to resign yourself to something mahirap para sa mga pinoy: Patience. I know, from my own experience, I went from periods of panic to dispair, because I saw others get their quickly, and mine took a little longer. Minsan may mga bagay na hindi mo maintindihan.

So, try to think about the time, and find something else to do. Magiging mabuti din ang lahat sa bandang huli. Go shopping. Go to a movie. Spent some time visiting friends you will probably never see again. ClockWatch2.gif

I was working in call center then and while waiting for a client to go online, I accidentally met him.

That was the most remarkable time of my life. smile.gif

I was working in a medical/legal transcription company in Valero St, Makati when I met my husband in 2006. It so happened that I have internet access on this computer I was using at work. Me and my husband were sorta conservative. I saw his profile on this penpal site. Since I wasn't doing much work that day, I decided to send him a "Hi, hello and how do you do" message. I guess I got his attention because I got a reply the next day. He was using his webtv address and he has a msn messanger. So I gave him my hotmail address and soon we started chatting on the MSN messanger. He told me this one-liner thing, "Be gentle". And I got curious by those words. Until now I still don't know what did he mean by that. That is why he is kind of conservative. I guess that was one of the reasons why I fell for him. We just happened to meet at the right place and at the right time. The other reason is that he has a good sense of humor and makes me laugh. (And he drives me crazy as well. He he he!) blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

Cases are denied for all kinds of reasons, but not just because you have a (co-)sponsor. The reason you have a sponsor is to insure that you will not be a burden on the United States government after you arrive in the United States. Just make sure your sponsor has sufficient income and/or assets to satisfy the financial requirements. If you are not sure, get multiple sponsors.

Let me say that your mother will be ok! She will have these emotions that she is having right now. That is what a mother is suppose to do. Behind all the tears, she is very Happy for you!

This is Danny writing this and I would like to share a story with you about my wife Ruchie and her mother. Ruchie is over in the Philippines right now. Sadly, she buried her mother yesterday. Her mother was stricken with Pancreatic Cancer and was gone within 2 months after learning that she had it.
Her mother wanted her daughter to find a man that would love and take care of her and her son Mathew. That was her mothers dream! Her mother knew that there would be 8600 miles beteen them, but the love for her daughter and grandson made that distance very short. I can remember the first time I met Ruchies mother. She was very proud and Happy that Ruchie found someone who would love her and would accept her son as his own. I promised her mother that I would love and take care of them. I will keep that promise until the day that I die.
It was hard on Ruchie to leave the Philippines to come here, but Ruchie knew that she had to start a life for herself and Mathew. She kept in close contact with her family and shared with them about her life with me and life in the USA....

None of us know what tomorrow brings! We just have to live for today.. Cherish the love you have toward your mother and family, but don't feel guilty about leaving them. You and your fiance are starting your own life and journey. Your family will understand that and they know that the love they have toward you out weighs any sadness of you leaving them. Your family will always be in your heart. No matter what!

Cherish these last few days you have in the Philippines and remember that distance will not fade the Love that you and your family have. You will miss them, but you will be ok! Your fiance will take care of you and he will make sure you have that contact with your family. Good luck to you and may your Journey be as special as mine and Ruchies. good.gif

I was on the verge of tears when i finished reading your story about your Ruchie, Danny. I am sorry to hear about her mother. My parents are also in Manila right now and yes, you are right when you said that distance in no way will not change the love we have for our family first and foremost. In my case, my parents cannot wait to kick me out of their house that was why they were so happy when I came to California and married my husband. laughing.gif They were thinking that I am going to be a spinster forever. So when I turned 35 and got married, they were able to heave a sigh of relief that finally, I met someone who is going to take care of me.

To lady in Pink, cheer up. Spend your remaining time in the Philippines with your family because it will be a while before you are going to see them again. -- Marie

PhilippinesE-ticket..give me infos pls.
QUOTE (ED*Riza @ Nov 10 2008, 10:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
PAL is very strict with CC. This is base on my experience with our trip from boracay to cebu last oct 19, 2008. I forgot the CC that I used to purchased the tickets. We ended up buying new tickets and asked for a refund for the unused ones.

Yeah, PAL is very strict with E-ticket bought through credit card. My husband bought my e-ticket (Manila to San Francisco) online. He sent me a photocopy of his credit card and passport. In his effort to protect his credit card Identity, he tried to hide his credit card account number by shading that part with a black ink. When I presented them at the airport, PAL was asking for another photocopy of my husband's credit card with the account number visible. It was that or they won't let me board the plane. I called my husband and asked him to fax another copy of his credit card. But alls well that ends well. It was a lesson learned for me and my husband.

Can anyone please tell me what kind of questions my fiance can expect on her interview? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The consul asked me these questions:

1.) When did he pop the question?
2.) Since my birth was registered late, the consul asked me, "How come you were registered late in your birth certificate?" innocent.gif

As I read some threads like the whereabouts of Filipino here in US and groups in a certain states. I was thinking it would be nice and easy for Filipino if they are closeby an make them as a contact, who knows someday we can set up a gathering and the fact that we feel good if we know a friend/s who live closeby.

I'm from Belmont, California 40 mins from San Francisco. Please feel free to add me as a friend here and we can PM for complete details like address or phone number.

Hi! We live in the Northbay area. I am from Forestville, CA in Sonoma County. Nearest cities are Sebastopol, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and Petaluma. San Francisco is a good 70 miles away or one and a half drive from Forestville. -- Marie

QUOTE (SenoritaTeresita @ Nov 10 2008, 10:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Albeit I’ve never been to that manghuhula in Quiapo, I’ve seen a fortuneteller several times before. The last time I saw one was about a year ago. After dealing the tarot cards, the soothsayer reminded me that I had two sisters in America, which was true, and one of them would encounter some bad luck. She did not elaborate on what the bad luck was but she did say that it was going to be a blessing in disguise as far as I was concerned.

Sadly, the fortuneteller’s prediction came true as one of my sisters in America died of complications from breast cancer earlier this year. Then, the oracle’s words became more credible when my sister’s widower and I started to display a mutual interest in each other. I was widowed myself, and getting hitched to someone close, to my brother in law at that, was something so sweet and poignant and something that my sister in heaven (que descanse en paz) would have approved and very proud of.

So, that’s the way it is. The fortuneteller’s words came to reality as I am now engaged to my ex- brother in law.

I guess you and your fiance are meant for each other. You see, the fortune teller was the one who gave you a hint or a sign I guess. It was up to you to figure it out. wow.gif

PhilippinesThat gypsy woman in Quiapo
Hi guys! This is just an ice breaker from all those visa questions in this forum. Once in a while, in the middle of nowhere, some weird questions arise like this one.

Some of you guys may have been to Nazarene shrine in Quiapo Manila. Quiapo day is Friday where the church is filled with devotees and where the "manghuhulas" are everywhere outside the church. The college where I went to was near the Quiapo church and I used to drop by the church before I go to class in the evening. Well, one of my classmates love to seek out these manghuhulas in Quiapo. She is a court stenographer at the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC). She likes going to the Quiapo church like me.

One Saturday morning, we were dismissed early in class and so, while we were waiting for our next class, she asked me if I wanted to go with her to the manghuhula in Quiapo and if I want I can consult the manghuhula too if I want to know about my future. I told her thanks but no thanks because I am a bit uncomfortable asking someone to tell me about the future. I had apprehensions about this kind of thing during that time , but then I told her that I would love to go with her to the manghuhula. I guess I was also curious about what this manghuhula has got to say about her. When we reached the place, she can't decide which one of them to choose. Finally, she picked out to a skinny middle aged woman who was waving her right hand trying to catch our attention. There was only a small table and a an empty chair for my friend and I was standing behind her. After she shuffled the cards, the manghuhula started reading them. Finally, she started shaking her head while looking at my friend. She started to say, , " You better straighten our your life and break up with that cop you are dating. He is married and his wife is going to have a baby."

My friend was speechless for a few seconds while I stood there in disbelief that my friend is seeing a guy who is married. I guess the manghuhula was right because later when when we were in class, my friend finally spilled the beans to me. She told me that her boyfriend is married and that she wanted to break up with him, but then the guy doesn't want to call it quits. She told me the manghuhula was right about her boyfriend. She just wanted to know if they will end up together. But the manghuhula said no and that she will marry a different guy.

I guess the manghuhula was right because my friend ended up marrying another guy who is single. I wasn't there when they got married, but then I know that they are now happily married.

I have another friend who is a "pulis". She was also my classmate at the college. One time, she asked me to go with her to Quiapo because she wants to ask the manghuhula about her future. We went to a different manghuhula this time. I know she is married and I know that she and her husband are having problems. The manghuhula got a hint of her situation. She told her that her husband was cheating on her and that she better talk to him and decide for themselves if they want to save the marriage or "maghiwalay na lang". I guess the manghuhula was right again because my friend and her husband are now separated.

I got curious too and after going to the Quiapo church, I decided to go to the manghuhula. After we agreed on the price, she asked me to shuffle the cards. The manghuhula was smiling at me. She said she tried several times shuffling the cards again but she always pick up the same card. I don't know if it's fate or coincidence, but she told me that I am going to marry a guy who has a different skin color. An alien she said. During that time, I broke up with my boyfriend for some reasons and one of them was that he and my best friend ended up together. My ex-boyfriend was American. I told her that me and my American boyfriend already called it quits. She said I am going to meet a guy who is from another country. She said I should come back as after I meet my future husband.

I guess the manghuhula was right again huh! Was it fate or was it just a coincidence? I haven't been to Quiapo for more thant a year now. But I still remember her face. Maybe someday we get to meet again and by then I will have the chance to tell her that she was right.

I would love to hear about your experience with the manghuhula.

Hi everyone! A question came up out of curiosity. If you already have a child or plan on having one, do you plan to raise them speaking English as well as your native dialect whether it be tagalog, cebuano, etc?

Why yes! I would want our kid to learn Tagalog, Spanish and perhaps French or even other languages as well as English.

how do i track our case after noa2 do i go theu the consulate and put our case number in??? my wife to be just got her notice of review and i'd like to follow things as close as i can thanks for your help

Within a couple of weeks you will get a letter from the NVC (National Visa Center) stating that your case has been forwarded to whatever embassy, and list your fiancee's case number. In your case, it will start with "MNL xxxxxx". From there, you can go to the USEM website and track your case. You might also be able to use your "A number" to track the case at the NVC before then.

Philippinespetition question.
QUOTE (mahal007 @ Nov 18 2008, 10:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
what is the best thing to do to file for petition?
My fiancee is previously married.she ended her marriage for filing presumption of death
because she havent seen or heard about her husband for more than 10 yrs.the court
granted the petition and her marriage certificate is now annotated. But according to the nso
she cannot consider herself as a single so she cannot get a CENOMAR.She will use her
annotated marriage cert. and the presumptive death documents as a proof for termination of prevois marriage.
which is according to what i read here in the forum that the USEM dont really consider those document,
that they prefer annulment. So my question is if i marry her instead are we still goin to present those documents
now that im petitioning her as a spouse?obiously she dont need CENOMAR anymore. Will the USEM still ask
for documents how her previous marriage ended?i need some advice..

As far as the legal capacity of your fiancee to contract marriage is concerned, she is free to marry because she has complied with tall he requirements of law. This is what I know according to Article 41 of the Family Code of the Philippines.

"Art. 41. A marriage contracted by any person during subsistence of a previous marriage shall be null and void, unless before the celebration of the subsequent marriage, the prior spouse had been absent for four consecutive years and the spouse present has a well-founded belief that the absent spouse was already dead. In case of disappearance where there is danger of death under the circumstances set forth in the provisions of Article 391 of the Civil Code, an absence of only two years shall be sufficient.

For the purpose of contracting the subsequent marriage under the preceding paragraph the spouse present must institute a summary proceeding as provided in this Code for the declaration of presumptive death of the absentee, without prejudice to the effect of reappearance of the absent spouse."

If you are going to marry her, the US embassy will want to know how her previous marriage was terminated. She should bring all her documents with her to the US Embassy especially her annotated marriage certificate.
