Ok, I am confused now... What about the vaccination records for the CR1/IR1 visas? Do they need to be translated as well? Every time I think I got it all figured out, something else pops up

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMedical Exam Question
She should go to the clinic (aka "poliklinika") to which she is assigned locally based on her home address and request her assigned therapist to give her a paper listing all shots that she's had so far. They should have this info archived.

Russia, Ukraine and Belarus'Russian' dollars for consulate fees!
Russian dollars? Oh, I think I know... it's when you pay double and under the table, right? ;)
Thanks for the post, I'll keep this info in mind for whenever I have my interview. Although, by the time it happens I might be too old to remember anything...

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusFlights from Russia to the US
Don't automatically assume (for internal travel within Russia) that train is cheaper than plane. Especially, if you would like her to travel in somewhat comfortable conditions and want to book an 'SV' ('Sleeping Wagon')- they get pricey. Good luck!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusDaylight Saving Time
Out here in Siberia, it is dark when I get to work and dark when I leave. In summer, it is light before I wake up and light after I am home for the night. DST can't change that :( It is just more confusing to figure out the time difference from USA.

Russia, Ukraine and Belaruswhen to request police records?
My husband was also really worried about the police certificates. As soon as we submitted our petition, he went and made a request for his (luckily he has only lived in one oblast). They told him to come back in 30 days to pick it up, and of course he had a clean record. But it is Russia, so you never know what confusion can arise...
If she has a common name or doesn't feel like it is a big hassle, why not just get them now? They are free and you can always get new ones if you realize they are going to be too old. As far as I understand, the certificate is good for one year, but the interview should be no later than six months into that period, so that the visa doesn't expire before the certificate.

Russia, Ukraine and Belarusvisa deal in the works for Russia and US
Yay! It is so annoying when our countries play visa retribution politics and we get caught in the middle, like a year or two ago when the US visa price went up and the Russian price went up the same amount right after... or the other way around, I don't know who was first.
This is a step in the right direction. :D

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusDoes this have a name ?
I have never seen anything like that in Siberia... When I asked my husband what it might be, he didn't know, but he said his grandmother told him that if you put a frog in milk it will keep it (the milk) from going sour.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRussian Elections
Channel 1 in Russia isn't reporting any of this of course. It is kind of sickening to watch them showing the Nashi rally of support for the "clean elections" and tons of experts, including international, declaring that everything was done properly. Everyone on vkontakte (russian facebook) and live journal (the most popular blog site here) are sharing videos and photos of the ridiculousness.

The protests in Moscow are just a start... lots more are planned around the country for this weekend. My husband wanted to go to the protest planned in our city for Saturday... but we can't get arrested before our visa interview. Not that I think these protests are going to change much... I've heard a lot of Russians express the opinion that this "peaceful measures" thing just doesn't work for Russia.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusIs Relationship a Secret in RUS?

Ok, need a little guidance.

Is is customary for someone is Russia to not share nor tell very few people in Russia of your relationship. I have been asked to not share photos of us with my friends also?

Im trying to determine if this is a RED Flag or just a Cultural difference.

Any advise or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

HI!
Its just an old cultural thing i guess. She doesent wanna you to show the pictures fo you together to the friends and just wants to minimize the amount of people that could possibly see you on the picture together,as according to the old saying these people can put a bad eye on both of you and the relationship might be destroyed.
Thats very weard ,but there are alots of bad eyes in Eastern Europe and Russia ,a lots of jealousy ,envy a lots of unsutisfied angry women and some people ,especially the older ones. She might be also thinking that these things are happening in every country and doesent want you to show your guys pictures until you get finally get married .
Well, thats what i think ,but just ask her later about this as thats might be an answer.
Sincerely.

Sweetgirl! Thank you for this interesting post!

Craig, how about her parents and relatives? What about her Mom? Mom is true best friend for russian woman! I am not sure about red flag at your situation. However, it seems like something wrong and strange here. Really, you do need to ask some questions of your fiancee.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusHow long for the police certificates?
All depend from place living her fiancee. In general, it takes 3-4 weeks. Only if your fiancee lives in one place living (region/oblast in russian) and didnt move in other regions/oblasts after 16 age.

Kitty Hawk

Where really are you from???? There IS OVIR in Russia.

Completely agree with Neonred about Russian lifestyle: pay money - get everything.

- Russia has not OVIR now. Please, look at the official documents of the Government of Russian Federation. No problem for you or everybody.

- The duty for getting registration is 9 (nine!!!) rubles. Time for getting your registration is about 15-20 minutes.

- Bribe somebody/accept bribes = crime offences in Rissia and in the USA.

- About bribe in Russia? Hmmmm Myth! May be some dishonest women want to get more and more and more money from men-fiancee. :P

Cesar, I am sorry to hear about this problem of your fiancee. In my opinion, no problem here. She have to visit "Information centre of GUVD" her "oblast" (sure, she knows about this) again. Your fiancee can visit Chief of Police Department also. She needs kindly ask to people to give her a police certificate as soon as possible. She needs to show the interview invitation. I am absolutely sure, she will have this certificate in a couple days.

Unfortunately, one man wrote you on this forum this: "I don't know what the problem is with the police certificates as my girl got hers in just a few days, but I think she paid a little money to expidite the process". Please, your fiancee doesnt need to follow this example! This way is illegal way to get polices certificate! He wrote you about bribe to police and commit a crime! I cant beleive this!!!

I am sure, your fiancee honest and polite girl. Good luck! (F)

Kitty Hawk, my dear! Where are you from????? looks like you NEVER was in Russia! Or you absolutly do not know about russian style life.... Pay some money for necessary friend or people and will get ALL things very fast! Everybody will be happy to get some money!
Good luck for all members on this forum!
Veta

This last entry was written by my wife.... She tells me she actually got her police certificate the SAME DAY she went to ask about it. She went her regional main office and they were able to look everything up on computer. She paid 500 rubles....call it a tip or gratuity or bribe if you want, but we all know this is how things get done. I think we have all had some experience with this in Russia. I did it in the airport when there was a problem with my visa registration ($20 US) and in OVIR with gifts to get my visa registered. Guess that makes us criminals LOL :hehe:

Oh, do I need to start a thread about how a Russian wife will defend her husband??

OVIR? In Russia? LOL Russia has not OVIR a lot of years! :P A bit little strange to hear from you about OVIR in Russia. LOL

Russia, Ukraine and Belarussecond K-1??
Hi,
I was issued the K-1 in March this year and in July came to USA. However, my fiance and I could not get married due to some circumstances and I had to go back to Russia. Now, we are considering two options - either filing for the second K-1 or getting married in Russia and applying for the K-3. Does anyone here know if the second K-1 can be issued again and which is the soonest - K1 or K3? Thank you.
