Or, is it at the airline check-in counter?

After they key your info into the Ticketing Computer, you will be told about taxes that you have to pay for the airport. Just like Kenny says, the ticketing counter personnel will tell you exactly what you need to pay.

who charges the departure tax ,is that part of the ticket because with continental I paid part of that and wonder if I have to pay again ?

In hindsight, I remember purchasing a generic one-way ticket from COPA Airlines, and it did not include the departure tax. Leidys told me that she had to pay the extra money at the ticketing counter.

That's what I love about Bogota Airport...

I checked the history for both American and Copa on flightaware.com, both seem to be on-time for the past several days... It appears things are ok, for now... checked for both Medellin and Bogota.. Keeping my fingers crossed though that things go smoothly for my trip down to Medellin on Tuesday...

Kenny

Leidys said to be ready to have 70 000 COP on hand for Maritza's departure taxes.

Ok i have an AOS questions. i want everything to be mailed to my PO box not my home address because we are moving in like 3 months or so. the only form that gives me an option to put my mailing address different than my place of residence address is I-864 the affidavt support. is that form going to reflect all my other forms or is there something i have to fill out for them to mail something out to a different address? thank you!

Your cover letter should indicate your impending change of address. This will not be a big deal to the USCIS.

The WeLoveBogota.Com apartments were only 20 min. from the airport - the one closer to Salitre Plaza was closer to the airport. Not dirt cheap, but cheap enough with respect to your taxi fares, getting food (close to Salitre & Exito), and your privacy.

thanks for the info guys!

This is no doubt the case. If you look at the interview list it is only 17 pages compared to the 20 something of last months. We should have received a December interview date but since there are less days available in December we got it the very first day they will be open in January (the 3rd). I received the interview date by asking them via e-mail, the embassy and IV unit has always been very helpful for me and always answered back within 48 hours, reaching them via e-mail is a lot better than via phone.

I wouldn't be surprised if they placed the October Packet's in mid-late January, and everyone else in February. They are seriously dragging their feet. :bonk:

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWhat do I do while waiting for K-1??? I-129F Case Type
Here's my complete story. I met Onelis Pinedo in Barranquilla, Colombia in November '07. I submitted:

- 2 Passport Photos
- 2 Birth Certificates
- 2 Letters of Intent to Marry
- Hotel receipts, copies of bank statements related to purchases in Colombia, Flight itineraries, Emails, Phone bills, letters, etc. and we have on file translated copies of my divorce decree from late summer '07.

**on January 30, I received from my lawyer a photocopy of my I-797 Notice of Action (NOA), with a receipt number. I am registered on the USCIS website.

I am waiting patiently, but while the paperwork crawls from 1 desk to another, is there anything I can do to expedite the paperwork, or is it best to sit, wait, and be humble?

Thanks for any advice! good.gif

When everyone gets tired of Ron Medellin, we always go for Cerveza Aguila. kicking.gif

When you apply for her AOS you should also send her I-765 for her EAD and I-131 for her Advance Parole which will let her come back to the States if she travels while her AOS is approved. The $1,010 fee covers the processing of all three forms so it's a good idead to send them all at once. She should be getting her EAD and AP approved within 3-6 months.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaForeign travel after bringing fiancee to US?
I'm applying for the K-1 visa with my fiancee Onelis. Once she comes here to the USA from Colombia, how long will it take before we can travel in Baja, Mexico - my favorite place away from home? Some guys on the BajaNomad.com site told me 5+ years, but I know it can't be that long. However long it takes, but I get the Baja bug quite frequently, and fish tacos here in Southern CA don't taste the same. crying.gif

In my free time, I lead group tours into Baja, Mexico - I even sell t-shirts for the events that read like concert tours. Here's a little background into my madness...

Thanks for all info..

I wanted to know how all the other filers for Colombia are doing.

Does it take longer to process for Colombia? Is it a good idea for me to join him for his interview (once he finally gets scheduled for it)? I know the embassy in Bogota can be sticklers for giving out the visa's. He has already been denied for a tourist visa (before we decided to do the K-1), and I am a little nervous.

My thread, "Where Did She Go?" tells my story in complete detail. You might enjoy its ups and downs, insights into contemporary Northern Colombian culture, photography, and social commentary.

I have heard repeatedly that it is a very good idea to join your fiance for your interview in Bogota. This is not first-hand knowledge, just what I have heard over and over from people who have gone through the actual process.

From my NOA1 to NOA2, I waited 4 1/2 months - from the California Service Center. Good luck, and have fun with your Visa Journey!!

I'm having a problem getting some kind of call logs. I use an Orbitel phone card to call Vanessa and she has a Movistar pre-paid phone. I call her every night for the past 8 months but since I use a phone card I cant prove that I do. My phone company said they cant give me a log. What do I do???

What about your credit card statements? Do they list your purchases of time to Orbitel?

Do what I do, and for $2, I get 100 minutes direct (a fija) to Barranquilla via La Unica calling card. That's how I stay in touch with my Costeñita...

What city are you calling? How much to you spend per hour dialed? I met a guy at the US Embassy earlier this month who swore by Bananatalk.com, but he doesn't live in an area with competing liquor stores all selling a wall full of calling cards.

In a large city like Mexico City, you will be safe - safer than the border regions or mountainous regions specified on this alert. I sometimes lead group trips into Baja, Mexico and this once included the mountainous regions of Chihuahua and Sinaloa. We won't travel back to these regions without a Military escort. But, I would not worry about Mexico City. Just enjoy yourselves there for the short time that you will be there and have fun.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaCheap ways to call latin america?

Nobelcom.com (to call landline phones) and its affiliate, enjoyprepaid (to call cell phones), are our choice to call Ecuador. Ecuador is one of the more expensive LatAm countries to call.

I didn't mention this, but if we paid $20 up front, it would all be gone w/in 2 or 3 days. Buying $2 calling cards also helps keep the calls to a minimum.

Have any of you found cheap ways to call?

My wife needs to call her family on their cell phones. We purchase $2 calling cards and average $.025 per minute. Vonage is also a great option, as is Metro PCS. Magic Jack also works, but I only have experience in purchasing calling cards - which I was able to take with me to the US Embassy in Bogota as proof of an ongoing relationship.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaSalsa

My husband and I have visited Puerto Vallarta before August ended. The best part of that travel was authentic Mexican cuisine. We kept going back to La Chata de Guadalajara at the Malecon for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've never tasted food that perfect before.

Can someone please share with me a recipe for any original Mexican salsa? :star: I like it really hot.

Are you ready to feel the heat?

1 part Chipotle Chiles in Adobo Sauce
1 part Cilantro
2 parts diced Onions
2 parts diced Tomatoes

Blend in a blender, and serve. You might need Sour Cream to adjust the level of intensity (to bring the heat down a notch). Also, add juice from a lemon, and enjoy!

The only two "loose ends' are talking to my pastor and dress shopping which I'll hold off on until we get an interview date. :innocent:

You will get an interview date 4-6 weeks before the actual interview, but be aware that some people require AP or Additional Processing which could hold up your visa, and disrupting your plans. Your best bet is to wait until the Visa arrives in your SO's hands, and you can plan your flight to the US POE, and then a wedding w/in your first 90 days on US soil. With these unknown variables mentioned, I am sure your Pastor and wedding guests will fully understand your situation.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow & where (USA or CO) to purchase airline tickets?

Hola to all,

Yes our visa journey is at a point where we need to set a date and buy the airline tickets!

Any suggestions on the most economical way to do this. Do I purchase the tickets (paperless) here in California or must my Colombian fiancee pruchase the tickets in CO?

I went on COPA Airlines' website with my wife's Cedula #, and purchased it on-line (*after* a quick telephone verification by my wife in Barranquilla before any money was exchanged). I wasn't concerned about saving money, just getting her from Barranquilla to Panama City and to Los Angeles Intl and not routing through Bogota due to the long lines and confusion in that airport. The POE lasted approx. 45 minutes (standing in line, mostly). COPA worked with my wife in not charging astronomical fees because of the weight of her two luggage bags.

Mexico, Latin & South Americawhite American
I drove along the USA/Mexico border in this region, and personally, I thought it would be safest to travel into and out of this city at very early hours of the morning - as when these photos I had taken show a sleepy town at this time of day.

The one time I had an, "Oh-Sh!!" moment was when I was with a group of travelers in Tubares, Sinaloa and a group of four drunks wanted to pick a fight with the group I was traveling with out of the Copper Canyon. They were strapped and we weren't. One of them called me a ***, and the white guy I was standing with also got called names. Sicks & Stones. If they weren't strapped, I would have taught them a lesson in a So Cal minute. Back to the topic...

Here, on the extreme west-side of the city, things are pretty slow.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBest Rates on International Calls to Colombia?

I'm just curious as to which services you all use for your international calls to Colombia. I currently use Google Voice for my calls to Colombia and they charge $.04/min to land lines and $.07/min to cell phones.

Skype used to have an unlimited plan to land lines but I cant seem to find it anymore.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

My wife's calling cards to cell phones in Colombia for 30 min just beat the price...barely. Her calling cards at the local liquor store cost $2 each. To a land line, that $2 works out to 80 minutes or roughly .03/min. The Global Calling card works 8 out of 10 card/tries, or 80% of the time.
