thanks ken! i already tired that and it wont work i see my BGT number and the date and time of my appointment but i cant get a letter? am i missing something?

The page I listed says that 1 week prior to your Interview, you need to contact the Embassy. You should wait 2 1/2 more weeks before contacting them if your Interview letter doesn't arrive in the mail.

ok thanks Ken i dont have a Sponsor i asked my lawyer if i need one and she said no so hopefully i dont need one! thanks again!

You probably do not need a Sponsor. Your Lawyer looked into this, so I would not worry about this.
When are you flying back to Colombia? Have a blast when you go.

thanks Ken, you and Leidys are super sweet you guys have helped us out so much :)

yea thats exactly the binder i have i also bought the plastic cover sheets. i have eeverything super organized i just have to get the pictures out of there i put them in the two in each plastic cover with the date and what we were doing i have about 100 pictures.

what is the I-797 and I-864? i never heard of those forms.

I-797 is your NOTICE OF ACTION 1 or NOA1 and NOA2 related to your approved I-129F.
I-864 relates to your Sponsorship [ http://www.uscis.gov.../form/i-864.pdf ]
I carried them, but they were not asked for.
The benefit of organizing the Packet 4 forms along the guidelines of the Packet 4 instructions was that during the Embassy interview, these forms could be pulled out in the exact order, and placed inside of the large envelope quickly and without any confusion.

you also used a 3 hole binder? thats what i have and i heard that its to big i am just going to leave everything in there and if they ask for something ill just take the paper out and its. i have it very organized and i think thats what should matter. the pictures i did hear they didnt want them in the folder they want them lose so i guess ill just put them in an envelope, that should be ok right? thanks so much for your help! and congrats again on the approval!

Leidys and I were super-organized when we went to the Embassy.
I went to Office Depot and bought two Avery 1" 3-ring 200 sheet binders in white.
Posted Image
In these, I used plastic paper holders, and I placed the following:
my completed I-129F (paperclipped),
along with my I-797 NOA forms,
Invitation notice letter (to get inside US Embassy),
I-864 (completed, but not used during meeting),
Packet 4 (with all completed forms relevant to Packet 4),
Packet 3 (originals since I scanned and emailed my Packet 3, and backup copies of her ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE,
DAS (Banco de Bogota) receipt,
Passport photocopy,
Receipt from DOMESA (since we were approved at the embassy),
Receipt from Banco Helm ($275,100.00),
Photocopy of Cedula,
Vaccination Document Copy (to be used for Adjustment of Status at Civil Surgeon Meeting),
Original Certificado Internacional de Vacunacion o de Profilaxis,
Emails from Leidys,
Receipts for the calling cards I purchased, etc.
Photographs were kept separate since there were so many. We carried about 50 photos, but presented 20 initially which were the only ones the CO wanted to see. He was surprised to see my Mother visiting with Leidys parents in their Barrio, and commented on this with us.

Good luck, Berta. I'm sure everything will flow smoothly for you and Esteban. :star:

On Friday, my Colombiana received her Conditional Green Card. I couldn't have done it all without everyone's help here at Colombia Club II.

The Green Card arrived 4 weeks after our Interview in San Bernardino, CA.
The Interview ocurred 6 months after Leidys' POE at LAX (11-22-09 - 5-24-10).
Our AOS was sent out on March 8th (after I forgot to sign some forms - duh!). :bonk:

During the interview, you will be asked to slide the photos under the window (as if you are at a bank teller window) to present your proof of an on-going relationship. You can present as many as you like, as we did. The CO kept about 20 photos that went into our file.

My usual ride to Colombia & back is generally on the daily Medellin - Fort Lauderdale nonstop on Spirit Airlines, who also serves Bogota, Cartegena, Armenia, and had just added new service to Barranquilla. With the airline now on strike since Saturday night, and all flights canceled, how is everyone doing with any efforts to reschedule on other airlines? Had Vanessa not had some already existing plans with family for this week, I'd have probably been down there myself and would have been unable to come home on Sunday, so if you're stuck there, believe me, I really feel for you.

I'm feeling fortunate to not have purchased 2 r/t tickets in anticipation of Leidys receiving her Green Card (which should arrive any day now). This is unfortunate for so many people. I usually fly COPA Airlines from LAX to Barranquilla. They typically permit additional luggage w/o the usual fees that Spirit charges, and when your prometida flys to the USA, chance are, she will be carrying more than the allowable limit that Spirit allows w/o the additional fees.

nice pictures ken so would it be better to get the lab done a day before the medical exam?

I would demand that you get your medical exams completed 2-3 business days prior to your interview. I don't see the point in rushing around if you can get your exams completed and have a 1 or 2 day cushion/relaxation period. Trust me, the day of the interview you will be stressed out enough.

hi all we talked with the embassy doctor and they will not allow sandra to come until she finishes treatment which will be in sept 14. they said Atlantic will not allow here to travel in this condition which she is all better now but have to take medicine for full term. the embassy doctor said he would allow but atlantic say is againt the law. i think they just want money because we see doctor in barranquilla that they recommend so they want to make sure they get every last penny they can

I don't see why you could not have Sandra complete her treatments here, because once she arrives, you will visit a Civil Surgeon to have her medical condition reviewed before sending out for her Adjustment of Status (AOS). :bonk:

just wanted to say hi to everyone and say good luck to all upcoming interviews. an update on sandra, the embassy doctor said that her treatment for her sickness would take 6 months to finish but if she was better in 2 months she could come and finish treatment in usa. it has been 2 months and she is better now and her doctor in barranquilla said that she can travel. the embassy doctor said that he thinks there is a law in Atlantica where she can not travel until she finishes treatment. we pointed out that the doctor said it was ok and the the embassy doctor said it would be ok so why is he changing his mind. then the embassy doctor said maybe can not finish treatment in usa because drugs are to expenisive. he has know idea if we can afford or not i do not think this is his place to say. i told her we can buy all the meds from colombia embassy doctor if he wants. at the end of the conversation he said call back next week so he can think about it. now we might have to wait for more months. this is so frustrating.

 What is the Doctor in Barranquilla smoking? :bonk:

I thought Leidys and I were going to meet Sandra this summer! :(

Is there any chance that he will change his mind??? I bet he's expecting a pay-off.

Do you have anything in writing, or is there some way you can go around his decision???

You can get the ATM through Bank Branches? Or as panama jack said, I could have just called the american number and set up the appt for her. Actually we were thinking she could have just used my credit card for the website, until i tried and realized it only accepted colombian bank accounts. So basically she could have gone there and paid them in person to get the pin? <shakes his head>, why didnt they tell her any of that? Seems that they just gave her the bank website and said she needed to get it from the internet, so she had to wait 10 days to get the pin because she couldnt get a credit card............and yours took 4 weeks to get the appointment? Looks like shes going back to barranquilla again to wait.........I tell you, this ####### is rediculous. Its cost me thousands of dollars and we didnt even go the attorney route, yet there are 14 million undocumented mexicans living in the USA, who can get drivers licenses and buy houses, get bank accounts, and basically face zero difficulties without going through any of this. It is frustrating to say the least, but I realize I am speaking to the quire, since most of you have gone through the process as well.

When I took my wife Leidys (also from Barranquilla) to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles here in CA, she was denied a CA ID Card, because it could not be determined (at the time) that she had 90 days of legal residency. I feel for you, but the rules here in CA state that you don't get an ID card w/o some sort of legal residency.

Yesterday, Leidys and I had our interrogation, er, AOS Interview. Instead of lasting 15 minutes in the breezy Bogota parking lot, it was held in a small, cubicle-like office lasting exactly 60 minutes. Unlike the K-1 Interview in Bogota being in English for me, the AOS Interview was conducted entirely in Spanish. The Interpreter that I hired was not allowed into the interrogation.

What surprised Leidys was the fact that our K-1 paperwork from Bogota was sitting across the desk from her during this AOS Interrogation. None of the questions found in the VJ Example Interview Questionspage applied. 60 long minutes after walking down that long hall in San Bernardino, we were approved. Good luck to everyone with K-1 appointments. Keep in mind that a difficult K-1 case can turn into a difficult AOS case 6 months down the line...

How frustrating! Be sure to notify your Lawyer that a letter is in the mail. The problem with Lawyers is that it takes time for information to filter down to their clients (speaking w/K-1 Lawyer experience). :bonk:

Ken,
If I remember correctly, didn't you have an issue with the Domesa office?

Drew

Yes. The problem was that Domesa failed to notify my wife when the Passport and related paperwork arrived to Barranquilla. They later explained that they would not deliver to her Barrio because it was 'too far' and the roads 'too undeveloped.' Gimmme a break. Anyway, she had to stand outside on the sidewalk in Downtown Barranquilla and waited for her package to be handed to her and she was worried that the package would be stolen from her, but she made it home with the package safely, but the experience was something I was surprised had happened. I feel for you Ken. The same exact situation happened to me in July 2007. Earlier in 2007, I was dating two ladies when I decided to move forward with one and only to find out in the end that she could not cope with leaving her country. She was very gung ho in the beginning ofthe process when she backed out in July 2007.....thank god I was only up to NOA1 when I cancelled. At that time I decided to go back and rekindle the relationship with the other woman I had abandoned for failed fiance. It is at that time I realized that I should have gone with my initial gutfeeling because this woman is incredible. She is independent, patient and most of all mature and caring. Don't get discouraged it just a matter of finding that person that really wants to be with you and can't live apart from you and that has a really strong mental capacity to understand what is at stake.

The good thing is learning by so many people that I am not alone. I love Barranquilla, the country of Colombia, and it is a place I want to return again and again. I want a future there, I love practicing my Spanish, so its natural for me to focus on meeting a woman there. Luckily, while I was there, I met a really nice "soltera" and I plan on going back in December for 2-3 weeks. It felt a tad immediate, but now that I am home and we are able to talk and not feel rushed because of my travel itinerary, things are unfolding slowly - slow is better. good.gif

So, I'll be lurking and in early January, I'll let everyone here know the outcome. kicking.gif

Andres has to take the mexico route...We decided it would be better for him to make poe at LAX in case he gets delayed. Not to mention its a lot cheaper...Maybe you'll see him at El Dorado. He also is heading here on the 24th!

I think Andres will feel more comfortable having LAX be his POE. It is much less confusing than say, Miami. You'd have to fly there to meet him the airport is so confusing. But, I'm sure he would find his way around. I can't wait to hear when he reaches SoCal.

Um, I think I did. We went on another date today, to see the new Colombian film, ¨El Angel Del Accordion¨. Best film I´ve seen all year. Perhaps one of my favorite 10 films of all time. Onelis isn´t happy that I´m having so much fun here in town, but I´m taking things slowly. Its turned into a real mess...

I did a shot of Aguardiente in front of the Billiards pool hall on Friday night with a group of guys from the nearby bank. We played pool into the wee hours. I bought my souveniers of Barranquilla today, and I am so happy to be returning at years end - perhaps on a new VisaJourney!

Sorry Diana for the hell you´re dealing with at the moment. When you and Andres get married and move to California, we have to have a party or something. You both are great for working together so diligently on this while you are going through such a painful trial. My heart goes out to both of you.

Charles,

I just can´t believe how difficult all of this had to have been. Like swimming upstream for several months. I am going to spend the rest of my visit here just seeing the city and enjoying myself. The weather is much more agreeable than inland Southern California this time of the year. My Spanish is as polished as it has ever been in my life. I have tons of friends in Northern Baja, Mexico and in Southern CA, so its not like this is my only chance at meeting someone nice. I just wanted a reason to come back time and time again.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and advice.

Has anybody heard from Ken? I wonder how his trip to Barranquilla went...

Diana

Hello! I am in Barranquilla at this very moment. Um, long story short...I visited with Onelis´family, said our ¨Goodbyes¨, and I met with Onelis and her sister Estefanie here at the hotel. Onelis told me the reason that she had not tried to email me over the past month was because; Her ear infection, her eye infection, and being too ¨Preoccupied.¨ She then explained to me that she was ¨Afraid to leave her city, her country, etc. for the United States.¨ She said that she loved me, but that this was too much for her at this time of her life. She then, asked if I would call her so that we could, ¨Go out.¨ but, I declined because she just didn´t seem to be very sincere. This was painful, but it was much worse not hearing from someone for the past month - not knowing if they were alive or dead, etc.¨ So, today I ended my VisaJourney with Onelis. I wrote my lawyer explaining that he would need to withdrawl my visa petition, and ¨Thank you for your assistance to my case.¨

On the positive side, I went out with a nice, young lady here in town last night. She is single, much more of a serious person, intelligent, and possibly someone that might fit into my future. We are going to take things slowly, but I would love the opportunity to return to Barraquilla. I love this city, and this country. The people are the greatest. Sincere, warm, hospitable, and family-loving - just what I want to be surrounded with as I enter my middle-age period of my life (I turn 40 on the 28th..YIKES!). So, I hope to return, just with a different username and Costeña (of course!) good.gif

Keep hanging in there Ken. We flew into Cartagena on Spirit yesterday, July 2. Not that bad, to be honest. Security was tight and yes... it was raining a LOT. We bussed through Barranquilla at night and it was a complete MESS with the rain.

I'm flying direct to Barranquilla tomorrow night. I chose a direct flight to that city since delays back to Cartegena could prove problematic in the case of closed roads on the day of my return flight. I still have not heard directly from Onelis. Phones are completely down. No email, nothing. So, it will be a complete surprise when I arrive to their home on Wednesday.

Objectives for this trip are to get 2 passports (for her and little son), vaccines at Red Cross, Birth Certificates, and police clearance. I will keep everyone posted on the developments.

Ken,

I hope you get good news soon, I know it is difficult having so much distance in a relationship. I think we all have some experience in that area.

Dennis

Maria had to deal with a flooded street, causing her to ditch her plans in looking for Onelis. The word is out. Her Americano is looking for her. When the rains come, it causes havoc with the phone lines, causing the nearby Internet cafe's to all close. It must be a mess there right now. I'm looking at low-cost flights to Cartagena via Spirit Airways so I can just see her. This is driving me crazy. Maria plans to drive out tomorrow to find Onelis. I'm going on my 11 mi. bike ride now. It's the only thing that calms me down...

Ken,
Here's a cleaned up copy of what we used. You just need to enter the correct names and document numbers, and enter them as if the father was writing the letter. He will also need to have this notarized. Your wife will need to present this letter to DAS at the airport, and she will need an updated letter each time she goes back to Colombia and then returns to the States. There is no such thing as a blanket letter that is good from now on - she will need a different one each time.

Hope this helps!

Muchisimas Gracias, Amigo! Of course, this is a big help. I will make sure I keep this information in my file. Thanks again,

Ken,
Be aware the "permission" document from the father is only valid for 60 days!!!! This nearly caused us a major problem in the Bogota airport. For whatever the reason, we cleared, I believe 3 checkpoints till we got to the final one at the gate area. Here the DAS person informed us that the document was no longer valid, and made Sandy go too a room and contact the father via phone! Eventually Sandy and her daughter where granted permission to travel. So play it safe, and have him notorize it closer to your expected travel date.
Also remember that depending on the circumstances, you may need a new document from the father each time you travel to Colombia.

This will be a bit tricky given the relationship between my fiancee and the father, but I will let her know this, so that she can prepare herself mentally.

As far as the interviews go, I am so happy to be part of this forum (and thread). My Immigration Lawyer isn't even aware that I received an NOA2, and I'm nearly 2 steps ahead of him with Packet 3 arriving in the mail soon.

For some reason these people have the power to make you nervous, thank God we were able to make it thru and I really hope you do the same! Good luck, I'm sorry I went "overboard" with this email…

The more details the better. It makes me nervous that, "Couple after couple" were denied. That's scarry stuff. I can't think of a worse situation for these couples. crying.gif
