Sandra explained that she her interview with Harrold will proceed on Tuesday. Her 3 extra Medical examinations will take place Monday morning through Thursday. If their visa is approved through the Bogota Embassy, her exam results will have to be clear on her lung examinations. Leidys, myself and Harrold are all hoping this relates to Sandras cold she had last week, and nothing serious. Harrold will keep us posted - they will arrive in Bogota tonight from Barranquilla.

hi all i am in barranqilla today and sandra had medical on thursday? they say that the x rays show maybe something wrong with her lungs but they are not sure and that they need 3 more test to verify? she had the flu before test so we are all hoping that is what it is. our interview is tue what happens if we do not have medical durning interview? the doctor said we do not need that if they approve that they will wait for test to be finish is this correct? no we are worried but i think she just has a cold and i do not know why doctors can not tell the difference

Harold,

Leidys wants to talk to Sandra about this. We'll buy a calling card and give you guys a call tonight.

Here's a few more. Because we were married in Las Vegas just a few days after Christmas, we had only a handful of friends at our wedding. This past Sunday, roughly 100 more friends were able to attend our ceremony and everyone had an incredible time.

When your Beneficiary arrives to their Point of Entry (POE), they will be instructed to be married within 90 days, and have their paperwork sent in within that time. Last week, our paperwork arrived on the 90th day via US Postal Service priority mail - roughly $5 in a Priority packet from the Los Angeles area. I wouldn't waste my money on more expensive shipping.

So, how did we celebrate the conclusion to our K-1 Visa and step into AOS-land??? By some quality time in the dirt, camping and climbing. Yea!

Just wanted to pass on the latest info: Valeria was in Bogota last week to try and get the visa re-issued. She went to the embassy on Thur. to pick up her packet, that they were holding. By the time she got it that morning, it was too late to get the labs- they are only open from 7 am until 10 am each day. So, when she went to the doctor's office (Gonzales) they wouldn't do the medical- need labs first. So, she went back to get lab work on Friday morning, then doctor on Friday late afternoon- they made her do about 6 shots again, of course. She had to wait over the weekend in Bogota until this morning to go take the results back to the embassy. We thought they would make her pay for Domesa and then probably wait a few weeks for them to re-issue it and it send out. But, she got lucky and they gave her the visa package after a short wait. So, she now has a "valid" visa that is good until July- unless, of course, there is an act of war, act of God, or maybe the dog will eat the package

Joe

hello everyone today i found out Sandra and i have our interview on the 9th of march. now we have a lot to do we have so schedule medical and we have to pay visa airline and apartment i am getting nervous now

Harold,

Be sure to DEMAND an additional X-Ray report when Sandra gets her Chest X-Ray. You will need it for your Adjustment of Status (AOS) paperwork.

Joe,

I feel really bad for you. You have been through sooo much and now this. I don't have an answer for you, but if I were you then I would tell your fiancee to get a new exam. You have plenty of time for a new exam and you don't want to prolong this anymore. It would be a real disappointment for her to be denied at POE.

Best of luck and stay positive.

Mark

Not only that, but what about when you file your AOS paperwork? I'm working on mine this weekend, and I know that these materials will need to be referenced during the AOS leg of your Visa Journey. Good luck, amigo.

That still doesn't make sense, especially after your explanation. They can't make someone have a full exam that expires a few months before the visa itself expires, that's nonsense. Besides, the medical was needed in order to get her visa and then to adjust status, not to enter the US.

Then this is what I would do. Find out from the embassy if they still have the case. If they do, ask for another interview and tell them that you feel you didn't have a fair interview since you have a legitimate relationship. Buy a PIN for the interview if you have to and go to the embassy again for another interview. If that fails, then plan B would be to get married and file for a CR1 which can take as long as the K3, is a much better visa and less expensive.

Diana

That sounds like great advice. Carl will need to either call or do the DHL Tracking thing that I learned here from VJ: http://www.visajourn...howtopic=163292

I think Carl will work faster on this case than if he hired an Attorney IMHO. Carl, I met Jessica with my wife when we were in Bogota. If it helps, I can provide a character reference for you. You know, I got your back buddy.
Ken y LeidysMaleColombia2010-01-26 20:04:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionColombia Club Part II

So sorry to hear that Ken. As far as what he can do, it really depends on the situation. If they were flat out denied a visa and were told the case was being sent back to the NVC and then the USCIS for review, he needs to contact an Immigration attorney as soon as he gets back. If it was AP related, the only thing he can do is way just like Joe did.

Diana

This was a denial, and I believe an Attorney might be his best option. He has been through a tremendous amount of setbacks with his case, and I know this is tearing at him right now. :crying:

Hi Colombia Club...It's me...Ken.

I spoke with Carl today, and the interview at the Embassy did not go well at all. Carl will shed some light on his episode at the Embassy when he returns next week to the US. I have been talking to him, providing all the support I have been able to in his difficult time. In the event that he calls before returning to the US, is there any advice that I can give him regarding his situation? Perhaps, a petition for his K-1 visa to be held at Bogota before being forwarded away to NVC? Carl is doing everything he can in order to marry his SO in order that they can start a life together here in the U.S.

Here's some info on vaccinations -- Hopefully, this will help explain some of the expenses and time involved in the vaccination process in Colombia (provided by Leidys).

Hepatitis A - 2 dosages
Hepatitis B - 3 dosages
Influenza - 1 dosage
Tetanus - 5 dosages
Triple viral - 1 dosage
Meningitis - 2 dosages
HPV (according to age) - ??? dosages (depending on age)
Yellow Fever - 1 dosage (good for 10 years)

The following vaccination centers in Barranquilla can be checked on for the best possible prices in Barranquilla:
--Prevention
--Sus Vacuñas
--Global Farma

Leidys says that Cruz Roja is the most expensive.

I can finally report some good news- they approved the visa yesterday! We went to the window and the guy (different one from last time- I thought for sure it would be the same dude) just asked a few simple questions to Valeria and then said it was approved! I was at the window looking at the paperwork he had in front of him, and it looked like a checklist of things that was checked off completed. Looked like several AP things they must have needed to get before ending it. It was 8 1/2 months that it took from the first interview in April. I hope I will hold the Colombia Club record for AP wait , because I wouldn't want to wish that long of AP on anyone!

We were in Bogota from Wed. until today Friday (interview was Thur.) and back in Pereira now, and heading back to L.A. on Monday. I don't think it has sunk in yet, but I can finally say visa approved...

Hi everyone, I hope all of you had a great 2009 and a better 2010!!

For me 2010 is starting off really good since I have my interview in 2 weeks. We are very excited!!

I have a couple of questions.
My original interview was set for January 4th and my son's interview was set for January 14 (USCIS didn't link them together). I changed my interview for the 14th to have it the same day as my son. We just received in the mail the packet for my interview. It says Interview Jan 14, MEDICAL Jan. 04. I live in Medellin, does this mean I have to get my Medical this Monday and come back on the 14th for my Interview? For those of you who went through this process already, can you please share some information on this? I was planning on going to Bogota on the Jan. 12, do my son's and my medical on the 12th and do the interview on the 14th. Can the Medical be done like this or is it only by appointment. Has anyone had any luck with changing a Medical so it can be coordinated with the appointment?

Thank you!

I think you could do this - Because of the way that Packet 4 reads, 2 weeks should not be too much time, but you should call them to make sure.

Attachment D - Packet 4 reads...
"Laboratory Examination -You should complete your medical exam Before your visa interview at the following address:
BOGOTA - Instuto y Labrotorio Clinico Tel. 232-7272"

"General Physical Exam - You must schedule an appointment for any afternoon after you have had your blood test and chest X-Rays and BEFORE your appointment at the Embassy..." This does not say precisely when, just BEFORE your interview.
Dra. Maria Consuelo Gonzalez
Tels. 288-7629, 245-9290

Dr. Jairo H. Roa
Tels. 215-1763, 658-9366"

Let us know what they say. Good luck,

-Ken

Thanks for watching our wedding. I received a phone call from Nikita2Charles also from VJ while standing in the chapel lobby while they were still web-simulcasting our wedding. Most of the wedding chapels in Las Vegas are doing this, and you will see weddings throughout town around the clock. In terms of expense, it isn't too outlandish, and visitors were there from around the world. Leidys returned home with a new taste for buffets and clothes that fit a bit snug for her liking. Here's a big VJ F.Y.I.

Leidys heard tonight that a VJ'ers beneficiary was HOME INVADED, and they took the beneficiary's CEDULA, K-1, PASSPORT, BANCO DE VISA, EVERYTHING!!!

Tell your beneficiary to KEEP A LOW PROFILE WHILE IN COLOMBIA. This is serious stuff that you won't want to have happen to your SO. We all know that the security situation in Colombia in many places sucks. I was inside of a girlfriend's home DURING A HOME INVASION, and I know it is no joke.

If you're going to visit your SO's family in Colombia - DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND KEEP A LOW PROFILE while you're at it.

Hey Ken,

How's Leidys diggin' the U.S.? Unlike, say a state in the midwest or something, here in Cali (as in California!) there is plenty of Spanish speakers!

Joe

One more point I forgot to mention. Leidys has been uncomfortable meeting non-English speakers for fear of "Looking Dumb" in public/in front of them. VJers keep this in mind when introducing your SO to your friends, co-workers, family, etc. We are supposed to visit a cousin in Carson, CA tomorrow, but she really does not want to go, because she does not want to look bad in front of my family.

I have a real nice neighbor who I spotted going out with his wife this evening for dinner, and I stopped the car to introduce Bob and Kelly to Leidys. I did most of the talking, and although Leidys responded, she mentions that 80%-90% of the words spoken literally do not make any sense.

A real good idea would be for VJ'ers to invest some time in learning Spanish, and to purchase a language translator at Radio Shack for about $110. I hear these translators are expandable with language modules that can be changed for different languages.

I'm not sure how Leidys will feel tomorrow at my relatives house, but if she starts to feel sad because of not knowing English, we'll just step outside, and hopefully their neighbors will be listening to Banda or Corridos.LOL

Joe

Leidys tried walking home from her English-language school and got lost. She asked a Mexican-American man walking on the sidewalk, "Tu hablas Espanol?" and she immediately was told where to go.

We have visited the local grocery stores, "La Macarena, Cardenas, Food 4 Less" and with the circulars being sent to our home in Spanish, she is able to pinpoint the exact foods and fruits she wants to eat, and familiar foods from Barranquilla that she is familiar with.

At her English school, her classmate told her of a woman from Bogota that works at Cardenas Market in the Tortilla dept. She lives here in Riverside with her Brother and doesn't have many friends from Colombia, and Leidys plans to call her after the wedding next week.

The section of Riverside where we live is primarily Latino. I took her to Riverside Plaza for dinner at El Pollo Loco so that she could get exposure to White Americans, and she got to hear them speaking English and was able to study their mannerisms. I explained the differences between White Americans and Europeans, Eastern Europeans, Scandinavians, the English, having visited those regions in the past. We practiced English words and looked at some clothing stores, etc.

Being in Riverside, she is not the only Latino, and she has a choice in the Latinos/Latinas that she can befriend. On our street, there are two Spanish-speaking families and several more on our block, but she is focused on learning English, and in 1-2 yrs., she should be able to start holding conversations with strangers. But, overall she feels very comfortable here and the best part of all is that she feels a strong sense of community after just 1 month in the USA.

To keep her culture shock under control, she goes on YouTube and plays her Karaoke in Spanish, listens to her favorite Salsa singers, on-line radio from Barranquilla, buys her $2 La Unica calling cards (110 min/5 hr) and talks to her family most days of the week.

I keep asking her if she feels comfortable, and if anything makes her uncomfortable, and surprisingly, I get different answers every couple of days. So, I keep plugging away at explaining things in Spanish to her, and my Mother reassures her most days that, "She was sent to her by God."

Here's a few pictures from the past week:

That message is very confusing since there is no document being produced such as a green card or EAD nor is an Oath ceremony pending.

If the I-129F had been approved you would've received an e-mail from the USCIS letting you know that it was approved and the case would've been updated in their web site. It could be an RFE of some kind.

I guess all you have to do now is wait to see what it is. huh.gif

i guess i have to wait but i was thinking maybe not an rfe because when i check status on the website there is an option to show you if it was in that stage. i hope i get letter before the 8th i would really like to know

No papá... that's construction tape. LOL

I think a Club Colombia get-together would have been a great thing to plan for this Holiday season, but obviously picking a location is hard except those of you to be interviewing in Bogotá.

I'm just inviting Colombia Club members to our house, that makes the location a no-brainer. kicking.gif

Solar-heated swimming pool, Yamaha sound, Yeah! kicking.gif

Send me the save the date. LOL. I'll tace SoCal over the flurries I saw today.

C'mon down! Plus, my neighbors don't mind noise (before 11 p.m.).

QUICK QUESTION: Is it required to have a Social Security Card or number in order to get married? Leidys arrived almost 2 weeks ago, and we plan on getting married on December 28th. I have not seen this requirement anywhere, but I know in order to get AOS, it will be necessary. If anyone knows, I appreciate your input.
