CanadaLosing Sleep Over This - What Would You do?
No... well I went to the police station in Trois-Rivières and asked them if this is were I get one done. They told me it was for the whole country, and on the letter it does say in Canada...
I'll ask if it can be done in English, but this is Québec, and with our laws, I doubt they can do it!

CanadaLosing Sleep Over This - What Would You do?
Thanks guys!

I was just worried that the interviewer would say like: 'well your police check being this old we'll have to look into it, and therefore you're in AP'... I would hate for that to happen when I have time now to get another one done....

100$ for peace of mind really (25$ for police check, 50$ translation fees, Xpress post enveloppe for translator..)

In my case, knowing how an*l I can get, I think I'll do it or my doctor will have me on tranquilizers...

CanadaLosing Sleep Over This - What Would You do?
Good morning everyone,

So I need your help with something. I had my police background check done in December 2009, thinking the process with Montreal would be quick - haha, yeah,I know... :bonk:

Now I'm looking at MAYBE an interview date in August. I am completely TERRIFIED of getting into AP for some reason. Since I have time, I was thinking of getting a more recent background check done, even though in the P4 they say that one issued within the last year before the interview is ok.

Am I freaking out here? I'm losing sleep freaking out and thinking of things they could say are wrong at the interview and then being put into AP...

Thanks for your input guys, I'm stressing myself out with all this stuff!

If you dial 10-10-710 before the 1-XXX number, it ends up being 1.12$ for the call. It's good if you know you'll be on the phone for a while... I think it's called Caztel or something...

It looks good to me, do you have an id card, like a Health Care card for your youngest one, on which there would be a picture of him/her?
Bring everything concerning your visa application, and if you have a copy of the interview letter to prove that they have your passport and what not that would certainly help.
Don't bring more luggage than you need to either.

Good luck, I'm also going for a visit and am a little freaked at being turned around at the border. But everything will be ok, like someone told me, we on VJ are only a fraction of those going through the visa process, and I'm sure there are thousands out there crossing for visits while waiting...

Good luck!

Hopefully it all gets resolved soon! You can brag about being one of the very few to have ever gotten a call from Montreal!

Hey Brenda2010,
I was trying to import my car too, and apparently if you don't have a passanger's seat airbag you can't import it, unless you have one put in... Haven't confirmed that yet but... My car is old too, a 1993, and I don't know if it'll be worth it now...

By the way, I like how you put the costs of the visa process in your signature; smart!

CanadaGot my NOA1, Visa Schedule
valerie78 is right, sadly...
Even though CSC seems to handle paperwork faster, once it gets to Montreal you're in for a long and frustrating wait. Our I-129F was approved after 4 months, and our P3 was logged in in late April. Still waiting on a date from Montreal. IF we get a date in August, it will have taken Montreal 3 months to give a date, and that's only if we do get a date in August. In the P3 cover later, it's said to expect a date in 4 to 6 months...
Keep your chin up, you'll get there eventually

CanadaWAITING and waiting
Sorry to pop in, I feel for you guys and hope you get something soon... Maybe they won't have any interviews in July so they can catch up on their APs and what not. I'd be glad to wait until August for a date if it meant your situation got resolved!

And yes, Canada Post will not find your item in their tracking system until it has been 'deposited' to a Canada Post office.

Canadaestimate interview date after sending in packets

Thanks very much and yes it has helped! We are waiting for the hard copy of our noa 2, rec'd email Wednesday past. I am going next week to get my background check and calling Dr. for appt for the few shots i am required to have. Then i guess just wait for p3 as not completely clear on what is/isnt asked of at that point. Again, Thank you.

Just so you know, they'll ask for you to check a cheklist, to basically state that you are gathering the required documents, but you do not need to send them back right away. They'll specify that on the letter, and they'll also specify the forms you do need to send...
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-06-19 20:59:00
Canadaestimate interview date after sending in packets
Hi jken,
I don't know exactly where you're at with your paperwork, I didn't check your timeline before answering...
So basically, once your I-129F will be approved it will go through NVC then be sent to Montreal. Montreal will send you a P3 with forms you need to fill and send back. In my case, I got the P3 in about 3 weeks after the I-129F was approved if I remember. It was logged in in about a week and a half, but that varies a lot. It can take up to three weeks for it to get logged, from what I've seen. Then, you'll have a nice 3-4 months wait for the actual interview, but usually you'll know a month and a half in advance through DOS. In the P3 letter, it's stated that the interview will be assigned in 4 to 6 months, but lately it seems it's not that bad, but with Montreal you never know.
As far as the medical exam go, you can go through with it when you receive your P3. The medical office will need your MTL case# to go ahead with the exam. I had mine dome in May. You don't want to do it too much ahead of time because you'll need it for the AOS, and the results will need to have been issued within the last year of applying for AOS.
I hope this is somewhat clear, if you have more questions, feel free to ask!

There's a thread in the Canada forum called 'IR-1/CR-1 timeline to interview' or something like that started by trailmix I think... It might help you out to look at other people's timeline...
Don't worry to much though, Montreal is VERY slow with everything... There's probably nothing wrong with your file. We K1 filers had our P3 logged in in April/May and just got interview dates for August... That tells you right there how slow Montreal is...

Hey everyone!
I have a couple questions about what happens once you POE and get married!
1st: Once I get married, I can apply for a Social Security Number, and change my driver's license right?
2nd: Then, I fill in the forms for the Employment Authorisation and AOS as soon as possible?
3rd: Is it true that you cannot leave the US for holidays or what not for 2 years after you get married?

Thanks for replying!

CanadaApproved November Filers - The Wait for Interview
Well hello everyone!!!
How's everyone doing!?! I'm doing GREAT! So happy to be home! My dog must have put on 50 pounds but it's all good! The weather is beautiful, and there's nothing like home! I have to say it was hard to say goodbye to the family even though I'm only gonna be here 6 weeks, but I guess now I know I'll have to prepare myself mentally to the post interview goodbyes!

So has anyone received their P4 yet? I received mine on Friday, but of course I wasn't there to get it! I'm having it send to me here... It's only a letter, right? Nothing big like the P3?

SupportGeek, Valerie78, how are your visits going? Did you have a hard time at the border Valerie78?

Just a brief overview of how mine went if it can help anyone!:
So the border patrol guy that I got was a real schmuck! The man in front of me was sent to secondary, and I started freaking out at that point!!! When I got to him he asked me who I was going to visit. I said "my fiance". He asked me what he was doing there, and I replied that he lives there (duh!). He said: 'So... You don't work?' He asked me after how long I was here last time, and when I said from May to November, he started counting on his fingers and I cut him off -very nicely - and said that I flew back on the 180th day. He asked me why I stayed so long... At one point I whipped out the P3 and showed it to him, and he was like 'what's a P3?'... He then asked me if I had an interview date yet, and I said I did, for August 9th, but had no interview letter yet. He said ' So how can you know your interview date?'...At this point I was thinking, man do you need me to brief you on the whole visa process or are you doing this to trick me!?! :bonk:
So when finally he reached for his little stamp thingy, he started being nice and asked me when we were gonna get married, to which I replied with my highest standard of diplomacy: " Oh well, we don't have a date set yet since we have to wait for the results of the interview..." HA!

So it all worked out fine. No lies, no trouble.Certainly nerve wracking, but smooth overall! I glad I had all my proof organized beforehand though! It helped me stay calm and composed! I guess that really did it for me I think...

Well, did Halfnhalf get a date?

Hope everyone's good and getting ready for the BIG day!!!
Cheers!

Don't worry halfnhalf! Look at it this way, even if you are not assigned a date for August, you will for September. Wow. It's so nice to see our list all filled out. HalfNHalf, good luck on getting your date! You're the last one (for now :P) Now we're all in the stages of planning our travels, our medicals, getting all our paperwork in order for that all-important interview! Booked my medical today for July 12th in Toronto, pretty anxious to get it over with. I'm almost certain I'm up-to-date on my vaccinations (I lived in China for 6 months a year ago and had to get a medical done for that, so I think I'll be in the clear)

Things are really speeding up, and it's such a game-changer, knowing we'll be with our loved ones soon, and that we ACTUALLY HAVE CONCRETE DATES TO LOOK FORWARD TO :D Interview August 25th, the wedding EXACTLY a month later; things have somehow fallen perfectly in place (just barely :))

Nope, not my work that tells me I can't visit, it's the US Gov. - from what I've read here once you get your Visa (which hopefully I will on the 24th) you can't enter the states without activating it, which I'm not prepared to do till mid-December.

Yup, get yourself a bottle of Proseco tonight - btw, it'smuch easier on your head/stomach the next day than Sangria!

I won't be online again till Monday so hope all goes well on your trip down - lemme know how it goes, B
