CanadaWhen should I worry?
Don't worry about it, DOS told me they had sent my P3, and after 2 weeks I finally received it. On the enveloppe, it actually was mailed a week after DOS told me... Montreal probably logs in mail out way before they do mail it out I guess...

CanadaMontreal interviews in August?
Hey guys,
I'm doing the K-1 and had to wait almost 60 days for an interview date from Montreal.I know that some of you have been waiting longer than that, and I feel for you. I wish Montreal would get some more staff or something! It's frustrating to see people going through the Vancouver consulate and getting an interview date in 3 weeks...
Anyways, hope you guys hear something for August, good luck!
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-07-14 06:55:00
CanadaHow Long ? Geez!
Well, maybe they should know that it's not quite constitutional for them to hold your passport for 10 weeks...

Well, good luck, and yeah, I would definitely call the congressman again...

Cheers!

CanadaHow Long ? Geez!
Hey, wow talk about unecessary bs... But Montreal is backlogged from all angles...

So your US fiance needs to contact her congressman asap. They will have someone in his office that handles immigration issues such as yours. She might be asked to fill in a form and fax/mail it back in order for them to start bugging Montreal. At this point, this is your best option.
They have your passport, and it's been a long time. Your fiancé's congressman is being paid with her taxes, she needs to get his office involved.
E-mailing Montreal is pretty much pointless at this point from what I gather. I suggest she contacts me this week and start the process.

Best of luck, and congratulations on the babies!

CanadaProof of ties to Canada
Hey venassa
I am currently home visiting my fiance before our interview on August 9th, and was very nervous crossing the border, you have no idea! I was here for 6 months last time and thought they would make a big deal out of it -which they almost did! But here's my advice if it can help!

1- NEVER lie to the officer, and tell him/her straight up that you are visiting your fiance. You are not doing anything illegal here by doing that, so why lie.
2- Answer questions shortly and to the point. I gave him more details to questions when he seemed to ponder in his mind what I was saying. But I kept it short, no life stories required.
3- Fly there, then you have a return ticket to show that you're coming back.

And here's what I had with me to show ties, and what I actually needed:
- Letter from employer
- 2 months worth of pay stubs
- NOA2, NVC letter, P3 letter
- 2 months worth of Visa bills
- Loan agreement documents
- 2009 Income Tax documents
- Return flight info

Overall it went pretty well, apart from the guy's foul mood at the border. I was so happy he let me in I didn't even care after!
Good luck!

CanadaAnother Problem - Support Form

When I went for my interview we were in the same situation. My husband makes enough yearly income according to his letter from his employer but his previous year income was half that(and not enough to sponsor myself AND 3 kids) because he had just moved back to the US from Canada and wasn't working for almost 6 months. When I got to the interview I told them he made X a year but last year he only made X and we DID have a co-sponsor if needed....she said no thats fine and only took his paperwork. Now for the AOS part...I sent the co-sponsor stuff in JUST IN CASE...

Gosh, it's relieving to see I'm not the only one!!! Thanks so much for the reassurance, I'll say exactly what you said, word per word!!!

I had the same thing, my fiance was a victim of the economy last year working at the bank!!! of course he got laid off and last year didn't make over the poverty line as he came to visit me for a few months and they wouldn't give him his unemployment. He makes over the poverty line this year and we had a letter from his ER and paystubs and the tax return from 2008 and 2009, plus we had his mom complete an affidavit and I had her W2s etc. When I had my interview the lady that went thru my checklist at the window didn't even take the paystubs she just took the letter and gave me back the stubs. Then the CO who interviewed me said why you have a co sponsor you don't need it, i just said wanted to be safe than sorry. However when i do my AOS we are submitting everything just incase. Also as an FYI give them copies of the tax stuff, w2's tax returns, and paystubs as they keep what you give them so if you give them originals you won't have them for your AOS and you need them for AOS just in case they ask for them. You will be fine

Wooh! Forgot about originals for AOS, thanks for the reminder!!! Will definitely put the copies I had made as evidence and bring the originals, just in case! Thanks!

Thanks so much everyone for replying, I think the problem is solved now! I will have a co-sponsor just in case, but I won't freak out if it's not as perfect as the sponsor's form!
Thanks again! :star:

CanadaAnother Problem - Support Form
So at this point I'm wondering if I need a co-sponsor since the sponsor's forms are all good to go...
His salary is 14$ an hour, and he has 40 hours a week, which equals to 29,120 $ a year (52 weeks). He has 3,596.11 in savings. The reason why we wanted a co-sponsor is because last year, he only made 15,533.12....

What do you guys think? And I was thinking, the letter from the employer, should it state he makes 29,120$ or his hourly salary?

Yeah, not possible... Maybe next week while we're at the beach... Gosh, I KNEW they would wait until -almost- last minute to gather their evidence... But I loved them still, just quite pissed off right now...

CanadaWhat to do ?!?
Hello everyone,
So I have a question and need your insight! Let me explain the situation first:
I was in the U.S from May 09 to November 09 and came back on the 180th day. So no overstay. We are currently waiting very impatiently for an interview date. We were thinking that if we do not get a date by June 18th, I would go and visit from June 30th to July 28th or to August 4th, to plan the wedding and everything.
Now, I KNOW that it is entirely up to the POE officer whether they'll let me in or not, but from your knowledge, am I going against any rules here (amount of time in the U.S last time, visiting while on K-1, etc...) ?
I was going to bring all our documents regarding the K-1. I cannot bring a letter from employer because I'm a teacher and will be out of work anyways at that point. I was thinking of bringing my last pay stub anyways.
So do you guys think it SHOULD be alright or are we taking a risk?

Thanks in advance for the help!

CanadaEvidence of Domicile for K-1 Visa?
Ok, thanks for the replies...

So just in case, should I get a copy of his driver's license, one of the bio info on his passport, and a credit card statement?

Would that be enough?
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-05-26 13:10:00
CanadaEvidence of Domicile for K-1 Visa?
So I see a lot of people going through the K-1 visa process, and they are gathering evidence of domicile.

Isn't that for a CR-1?

If not, can someone fill me in on this? Do we need to prove the beneficiary's domicile or the petitioner's? And what serves as evidence?

Thank you!

CanadaTransfering Car to the US
Yeah well I just found out that instead of 'putting it away' for the winter, my dad actually had it put as 'scrap'. So now, I don't even know if I'll be able to transfer the ownership of it since in order to get it licensed again here, I need to have it inspected here...

CanadaTransfering Car to the US
Thanks Flames_9RN, trailmix and Colleens!

Yeah, I'm aware of yearly inspection... But I think that with you guys' info I might actually try to do the change... Better to have an old car than none!

Do you guys think it will be a problem if the car has not been licensed since November 2009? My dad basically told the SAAQ that he was taking it off the road since I came back without it...
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-05-30 07:09:00
CanadaTransfering Car to the US

You can just import it at your nearest POE (like the airport for instance). They will give you the forms to fill out, you need to get a letter of compliance from your car manufacturer.

Thanks trailmix... But I don't think I'll be able to get a letter like that because I bought the car used from a particular...
I think I'll just sell it for parts...

CanadaTransfering Car to the US
Hi everyone,
I don't know if any of you will be able to help, but I'm facing a tiny problem.
So if all goes well with the interview, I will need to transfer my car title in Virginia. Here's the problem, my car is already in Virginia. I drove down for the last visit, but flew home.
So I was looking at the requirements to transfer a 'foreign' vehicule, and they are asking for some sort of custom release form, as well as another custom form. I don't have any of these...
Does anyone know if I can get those after having crossed the border with the car (I drove down on May 23rd 2009)or should I just give up and sell it for parts (it's only a 93 Camry...)
Thanks for the help!

CanadaSupport Form -Confused as to which form to use
Hi everyone,

So I'm gathering to last things I need for the interview and I'm confused as to which form I need to have my fiancé fill in. His mother is also my co-sponsor.
Is it the I-34something or the I-84something that they need to fill in? Is it the same for both the fiancé and the co-sponsor?

Thanks for the help guys!

CanadaCR-1/IR-1 and K-1 Interviews July Mtl
Yeah, I see...

It's just so frustrating that there's absolutely no guideline of how things go with Montreal... You'd think that they would have more staff in Canada since we're so close economically and geographically but no... Seing how people from other country get their interview date in a month after their NOA2 was approved is demoralizing...

But oh well, trying to stay positive!
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-06-02 09:19:00
CanadaCR-1/IR-1 and K-1 Interviews July Mtl
Hey everyone,
I was just wonderting from the last couple of months, have CR-1/IR-1 interviews been more towards the end of each month, or there's really no specific time in the month?

I just saw that some CR-1 interviews were given for the end of July, and I was told by the person from DOS today that "you're elligible for an interview date, but it looks like they're waiting for a date to open up"...

So I guess I'm just wondering if Montreal has a trend of doing K-1 early in the month and then CR-1 later in the month (wondering if there's still hope for a date in July rather than August...)

Thanks!

CanadaLetter of Intent for Interview
Hey everyone,

The letter of intent from the USC for the interview, did you guys use the same kind of format as the one used for the I-129F (taken from the examples on VJ) or did you guys modify it to make it more personal?

Thanks!

Hey,
When you'll ask for a police background check in Vancouver, the letter will specify that nothing came up for a person of that name and of that date of birth in ALL of Canada.
That's what mine said anyways...

Good luck

CanadaIs it too early to worry about NOA2?
Yep, that seems normal for Vermont, don't worry yet.
I had my NOA2 4 months after we had sent it... I was starting to freak out in March because people that had sent theirs after me were getting their approval, and we hadn't had ours yet... Look at other timelines, but don't freak out either because it doesn't mean your timeline will be like theirs...
Good luck, and stay positive, you're in the early stages and things will fall into place! Look at it this way, all this waiting for the NOA2 will prepare you mentally for the wait for the interview with Montreal!
Good luck

CanadaLosing Sleep Over This - What Would You do?

Whoa ok hold on you can get a copy of a Quebec birth certificate in English!? ...I dunno. I tried to get it in English but because my parents registered me in Quebec in French thats the only copy they would issue me....

You're right, I called to make sure before filling the form online and the guy told me that if your birth was registered in French, they can't print it in English for some reason...

Problem solved ya'll! I went to the nearest RCMP office and got a police check done in 5 minutes, and it's in English and French!
Yeah!
