CanadaI-485 for AOS - Mistake in Example Form?
Thanks marriedtomrg!

And yeah, I figured there was no country called 123-67-8945, I just thought maybe you were supposed to put your A# or something...

I'm not that retarded! :P

CanadaI-485 for AOS - Mistake in Example Form?
Hi guys,

Alright, I promised you retarded questions, and here is one of the hopefully short list of them!
In the example form for I-485, under 'Country of Citizenship/Nationality' it's written 123-67-8945. Tell me that's a mistake right? It should be Canada/Canadian?

Please don't laugh (or be mean), I just want to make sure!
Thanks again!

CanadaLong Form Birth certificate question...
I just think it's weird that it does not state "Birth Certificate" at the top. 'Cause that's what they want really, I don't know if what you got is actually that...
Someone from Ontario might want to comment on this...

CanadaLong Form Birth certificate question...

So I ordered this Monday and wasn't expecting it for another three weeks because I chose the free delivery option giving me 15 business days.

Today, it showed up at my door and I had to sign for it. I'm happy that I didn't pay the extra $30.00 for the "guaranteed in 5 business days" delivery.

This is a certified copy of my statement of live birth... that's what they're looking for, right?

Mine said birth certificate as well. Make sure your parents name is on there.

CanadaHow did you assemble you AOS package?
Hi everyone!

I believe this will be my last silly question regarding the AOS package :D
I'm wondering how you guys assembled it? Kind of like the I-129F? With ACCO fasteners and dividers? It just seems like such a stack of papers to just put in an enveloppe without any clips or nothing...

Any suggestions welcome! And thanks everyone for your answers and your time, this AOS stuff wasn't so bad after all!

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?
I've been reading this post with much interest, and I agree with a lot of what the original poster. I haven't moved here definitely yet,but spent 6 months last summer and just spent 6 weeks now (leaving for interview on Friday).
What has been the hardest for me here, is how women are treated, both by men and by other women. I don't know how to explain it, maybe being from Quebec, where people are generally liberal and open, I feel like women are objectified here, and it's making me very nervous.
I love the area where I'll be moving though, it's pretty secluded and makes me feel like I live in the woods, so I like that. But as soon as we go out for various reasons, I get irritated pretty fast (really, taking you kids for lunch at Hooters?!?)
Anyways, just thought I'd share!

Do I also need to print out all the other picture that I use for I-129 ?

I had 10 pictures in total, e-mails from a year ago, and every boarding passes, and I was ask for NO evidence of relationship...

Hey guys!
I hope that you`re not too depressed about this waiting game with Montreal... How long on average have you guys been waiting since your P3s have been logged in?
Well, I just thought I`d tell you what I needed for the interview so you guys can get ready when the big day comes! This is exactly what I was asked for:
- Birth certificate - Police checks AND copies (if in French, you need to get it translated and certified by that translator). I had my copies notarized but I don`t think that was necessary. I also had the translations notarized just to be safe. FYI, if you go to the RCMP instead of the local police, they`ll issue you a police check in 5 minutes, in both English and French.
- Letter of intent from both of us.
- Affidavit of Support and evidence (pay stubs, letter from employer, letter from bank, tax trnascripts, W2) The interviewer told me I didn`t need a co-sponsor, but the lasy at the booth before the actual interview, asked for it just in case. All my evidence were copies, and I had brought the original just in case, but none were requested...
- Xpress post enveloppe, passport (duh!), 2 passport pictures.
- Medical enveloppe. You don`t need the X-rays by the way.

That`s pretty much it! They did not request ANY of the proofs I had gathered...

Hope this helps, and good luck on getting your date soon!

CanadaEvidence of I-864

haha i submitted more than we needed as well just in case :)

But like Inky said you don't need that much, unless your sponsor doesn't make as much. we just sent the irs transcripts, few months worth of pay stubs and a letter from employer. that was it.

Perfect, that's what I'll do! Thanks!

CanadaEvidence of I-864
Hi everyone!
So I thought I was done with asking questions for my AOS, but I have one last one! Actually, it's not really a question, but more a need for reassurance!
Here's the evidence I have for the I-864 and I just wanted to see if you guys thought it was enough and/or if I'm missing anything:

- I-864 completed and signed
- Copies of Sponsor's passport bio info and birth certificate
- Letter from employer
- 6 months of pay stubs
- Letter from the bank (savings account)
- Last statement for savings account and checking account
- 3 years of tax transcripts and W2s

Thanks for your time again you guys, I should be sending this whole thing next week (well, as soon as we receive the letter from the bank!)

CanadaWant Credit?
Geez, this post is awesome! I was JUST wondering how to go about getting credit here... Will definitely get hubby to call Capital One, and go to Wachovia to be put as "authorized user", we'll see what happens!

CanadaWhat's the best bank?

We bank with Chase and haven't had any real issues (except not having credit in my name and hence no credit card in my name but that's another issue.) What I do find annoying is that every time I go to the bank the staff pounces on me the minute I walk in the door. A representative will insist they can take care of me....even if it's only to make a simple deposit....then proceed to "update " my info and try to sell me on the latest deal they have going. Geesh I just want to walk in, go the teller and be done with it!

Haha, yeah when I go to Wachovia with Chris, they are always trying to get him to sign up for one thing or the other... Annoying!!!

CanadaWhat's the best bank?

Find a credit Union. They can do everything banks can, but guess what they are not for profit. SO cheaper! Loan rates, monthly fees, everything, and alot of times if they make money over the year they give you, the member, a portion of that back at the end of the year!

Yeah, that's a good idea, because that's what my bank was in Quebec, and it was awesome... Does anyone know of a credit union in Virginia?
Vero and ChrisFemaleCanada2010-10-01 17:14:00
CanadaWhat's the best bank?
Wow, thank you so much everyone!

My husband has a Wachovia account, and it seems like his check book and the actual balance are never the same, he always has to figure out what't not on there yet, and it's a real pain in the butt. I thought that the banking system here would be more 'advanced' that in Quebec, but from the Wachovia point of view, doesn't seem like it is... AND, his cousin works in a branch, and she told her grandma that she can see every account of everyone in the family!!! What a b... So, I don't want to go with them for that reason mainly...

I think I'll try Bank of America, since you can apply online for an account, right?

Thanks again for all the tips and suggestions!

CanadaWhat's the best bank?
General question to ya'll (yep, the southern accent is creeping in...) :D

What bank do you think offers the best service, and is just generally better? I want to go open a checking account, and it seems like there's a different bank every corner here, I just don't know which one to go to...
- Village Bank
- Wachovia
- Bank of America
- First Market
- BB&T
- Union First Market

It's just so confusing! Any thoughts?

I don't understand why you would need the "ball's" to volunteer....is it you are too shy or is it something we are not allowed to do? I thought as long as you volunteer doing something that a person wouldn't normally get paid to do then you are ok...?

I also might do an online course....depending on the cash situation of course...

No, I know I technically don't need 'balls'to volunteer! Yep, I am VERY shy!

I'm in Richmond too! I'm just about to go for a walk with dumb nuts here (that's the nickname Chris gave to the dog) to Pocahontas park. I think it's awesome that I get to walk where Pocahontas lived (but I'm a little obsessed with native american history too, dorky me).

I've been reading like crazy too, and cooking, and walking our dumb dog who thought it would be awesome to bark at squirrels at 1:00 am this morning, waking up the whole neighbourhood...

And drinking a glass of wine here and then :P

My wife is in the same boat. She spends most of her time reading or on facebook  Although now she is looking for a dog to adopt.

I work from home 95% of the time so at least she has some company.

The trouble isn't with Canada Post. It is with MTL. They haven't even issued it yet. What can possibly be the hold up? DOS said yesterday an approval doesn't guarantee anything. #######???

WHAT? That doesn't even make sense! Yep, I think it's time to get the good ol' congressperson involve at this point... That's retarded, an approval doesn't guarantee anything, what does??? :bonk:

Hey LeslienScot, one thing also that most people seemed to agree with is that Canada Post can be somewhat unreliable - yeah I know, helps A LOT. Check in the morning and in the evening on their site. I remember checking on a Friday and nothing was there, and then I checked again that same day at like 6:30 and it was on there...

Stay positive and strong, it's almost done!

Also, what happens when you go on Canada post? Does it even show up (your tracking number I mean)? If I remember well, I think some people have said that DOS would say one thing, and then Canada Post would say the opposite...
(I mean, I don't know, maybe I just read wrong)
Thing is, you'll be ok, you're almost done, stay strong and it'll all work out.

No one called you a liar.

You don't need to come into her thread and talk about how much worse off you are and how lucky she is compared to you. You don't understand what she's going through. I wouldn't call what you just said inspirational, it was sort of rude.

Second that.

Stop comparing hardships MAN.

Everyone has a right to feel the way they do.

That's right, and I'm sure the Egyptian consulate works slightly different than the Canadian consulate... (Wonder if there's an Egyptian forum on here?!?)

So, LeslienScott, whine away if you please, WE'RE here to support you.

Now, on a positive note,

Maybe because of all this change at the consulate they are slightly behind in the printing of the visas... Maybe something's wrong with their printer (it happened to someone back in July)... It won't hurt for Scott to call his congress person, but maybe wait until next Monday... I mean, I'm not in your shoes, so maybe you'll feel better if you get her involved asap...
Keep us posted and good luck

CanadaQuestion about upcoming tax year
Gosh, thanks guys, but I'm so confused!
So, I can file american taxes for 2011, with my canadian income? Doesn't even make sense to me... How?

Is it more profitable to file married joint, or seperate?

What is ITIN?

I do have my SSN already, in my married name.

And can I file my Canadian taxes too? I should be expecting a nice chunk from them, so I REALLY want to file those... Will I have to file it as married?

Sorry, I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm so confused!

Oh! And what would happen if we DIDN'T file as married just this year?
