I have a question for nickbits and Rose416... After having received the e-mail of approval for you EAD and AP, did you receive another e-mail the day after or so stating 'post-decision activity'? I got one for each form, and I'm a little worries as to what it means...

Tater&#######, when it rains it pours, doesn't it? Hope you can find strenght to help the ones back home (F) Hopefully you hear something soon about the AP and EAD, and if you can't make it home for Christmas, maybe you can go right after or early in the new year! Stay positive and strong, and you'll see that every cloud has its silver lining! (well, aren't I just full of quotes tonight!)

I'm just realizing that working in something that is not my field is not going to be fun, but I need to in order to pay for the translations and fees for the credits... I guess I'm gonna miss our Quebec outlook on work... I'm not going to like the crazy hours here, that's for sure... As long as I don't have to do retail, I should be ok. J&J, I would wait another week, print your NOA1 e-mail and call them. Maybe you can get them to send you another hard copy since you received the other ones. I know that when I received my hard copies, all the enveloppes were open, as if they weren't sealed properly. That made me very mad, but at least I got them I guess...

Wishing, congrats on the job offer! That's very good news! Unfortunately, I have to get my degree and teaching licensed translated before I can get them to an office that will assess all my credits (in order for me to get the VA teaching licence). This means that I have to look for anything decent, not in my field for the moment. Which sucks, s'cuse my language...

On a more positive note, I received an e-mail saying that my AP was approved and sent on December 14th. The only thing weird was that the e-mail said like 'post-decision activity'... I don't know what that means really, I guess I'll see when I received it in the mail...

You know, I've been cashing mine in my Canadian account and using my debit card here... I got one yesterday... I have no idea if I'll get in trouble with Revenue Canada (probably will!) but please guys, just humour me, just tell me it's fine! I don't want to hear that I'll have to pay it back just yet! Right now, I need the money, and I have a HUGE grudge against them anyways in regards to an EI claim so they can just fork it over for now!!!
I don't know what you should do Tater&#######, but as far as I'm concerned, that money is owed to me for now, so I'm going to use it! :whistle:

Tater&#######, thank you for the additional info. I actually make my dog's food. It's healthier for him and you can definitely see the change. I have to start giving him more protein though now, because he's eating his own poop, and he did that last year this time. I'm thinking that because it's colder, he needs more protein... We'll see what happens! I think it's great that you're having so many people over for Christmas, you'll be giving them a sense of home away from home.

Valerie78, seems like it never ends, does it... Do you think it has anything to do with being in AP after the interview in Montreal? What are they worried about now??? I swear they don't seem to worry about the right cases... Hopefully you'll get it in the mail soon and can get it over with... Talk about a pain in the b*tt though... Keep us posted!

recently we bought some natural spray, because i'm scared that if we used regular topical flea medicine - it could somehow get transferred to my kitty and hurt her (dog and kitty sleep/lay in the same area). our dog is huge (shepherd/colli mix) and kitty is still just a baby.

Yes the flea and tick meds. A lot of the Frontline and similar brands of medicine (not just for fleas and ticks) in the US is counterfeit. Only way to be sure is find out who the distributer for your vet is. If you buy it from Petco, Petsmart etc then it is counterfeit. Even the legit kind is dangerous. We avoid giving it and have been researching non chemical remedies but haven't tried any yet since it's winter.

My mom is taking it hard, mostly because she is all alone.

It was actually an interview with a staffing agency, and if I made a good impression, the interview with the actual company should be this week... Oups! :D

The only thing I think I messed up was when she walked into the little conference room (and I mean little like, bathroom little) I shook her hand but didn't get up... :bonk: And she told me I had to take a Microsoft Office Suite test online since all applicants have to do so. Man, I'm rusty with that stuff, haven't worked in close to a year :wacko:

Hopefully she calls back, hopefully the other interview goes well, and hopefully I'll be working next week! :lol:

i'll be 33 in december, major cringe. i know that isn't 'old' but i feel i'm totally out of touch. i was with my sister (21) the other day, driving and i saw this kid driving a huge pickup. i was like, no way is that kid old enough to drive (i would have said maybe thirteen) and my sister laughed, i graduated highschool with him. oops. where does the time go? i haven't the slightest clue what happened to my 20's. :wacko:

I absolutely hate how many bugs there are here... Ticks ( I HATE ticks, they're nasty!!!), black widows, brown recluses, snakes... I'm terrified of being bit by something, they're gross!

Well, I have some news! I hope I'm not gonna jinx myself but I have a job interview on Monday and it was required that the applicant be bilingual in French and English! What are the chances?!?

I don't remember the exact date we sent our info back but it got sent to the Cali center on May 12th. We waited a long time for the website to change from "RFE" to "sent to Cali" I was starting to worry about it then the next day they said it was sent. So I don't know how much longer it's going to be but every time I talk to anyone in my family they ask when my interview is and when I'm coming back to visit. It makes me sad knowing they are missing me and my son so much and I can't visit due to the waiting game.


Awww... That's awful... I know those calls, they (the family) is obviously sad and misses you, but at the same time try to ask very lightly and joyfully "So, any news on an interview date/green card?", which basically reads "Hurry up and come home this is too much"!

Can I ask you a 'private' question? How come you guys didn't apply for AP? I don't think it's too late to do so if you ever wanted to go through with it... Just a thought!

Yup, it's the lack of control that drives me crazy! They said they received our response and that they can take up to 60 days to respond so they're within the timeline but really people? 60 days? Everything else moved along so quickly. Okay, breathe, need to be patient. Thanks for the fingers/toes crossing!

Yeah I bet you almost cried, I anticipate much crying upon my return :) - we're planning on going for 2 weeks so we'll probably drive, only 9 hours or so, then we'll have the car to tool around/visit people.


Nice! Two weeks should be fun! I much prefer driving, I can go without all the security steps at airports I tell ya!

Sadly no, I've heard nothing. Sent in response to RFE (criminal record checks in Toronto and Baltimore), they received them May 18th...what is the hold up???? I'm not very patient. Although I can work/travel with the EAP/AD combo card, just wanna get this done!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know how it went crossing the border with the green card for the first time! I had brought my birth certificate, my marriage certificate, my EAD and AP just in case; and when we got to customs, the officer looked at it, put it in his computer or whatever it is they do with passports/green cards and said "have a safe trip back home'! Quite easy and very quick!
So we're back home again, it's super hot and humid, quite the change from the canadian weather! :lol:

I'm in the airport right now, gosh leaving was sad!!!!! Had a great time, and Chris and I will probably be coming back in October, I can't wait 9 months again, that was too hard!!!

Having a great time here, eating way too much food, it's insane!!! We're leaving for the US on Saturday. I can't wait to see my dog!!! But it'll be sad to leave everyone too... Oh well, that's life! At least I got to come home and visit for a while!

damn - that is cheap. we were thinking: fly to burlington vt and rent a car from there.

we would drive but since i totaled my 2008 aveo going to pick him up in october, the car i have now is a 98 with 120,000 miles on it. and orfee bought my grandmas old (96) camry..i don't want to kill our poor old beaters!

and we learned the hard way (again from the POE fiasco) that renting a car from montreal to virginia and back is as expensive as flying no stops roundtrip.

it's so aggravating because montreal doesn't seem too far away from us, having made the drive numerous times last year - it's a breeze really.

so close yet sooo far away!


We rented the car with Alamo through our Costco card, and it ended up being something like 530$ for 10 days, which is not bad at all... And we booked the flights with JetBlue. I love JetBlue because they let you check in a bag for free, pretty rare these days...
Enterprise was the most expensive for car rentals by far when we were looking...

Yes, it's the first time since the big move! One of my brothers and his wife came down for our reception/cookout, so at least I saw them 7 months ago! We're gonna have a reception/cookout up there with my side of the family, so it should be fun! I can't wait to see all the kids and hang out and SPEAK FRENCH!!! :lol:

I think it is, at least from the same month... I know there's a lot of people that post on the Vent forum, and they seem to keep up with each other... I know that for me, "knowing" people that had been through Montreal at the same time almost, and keeping in touch through the green card process has helped a bunch!

Hey guys - for those of you who got an RFE did you register it at the post office or just pop it in the mail? Kinda think I should register/certify it...wanna be sure they get it after all this! When you have a sec., thanks, B


I'm sure it's more of a matter of you worrying about it. I've heard people sending their I-129F petition through snail mail, and everything was just fine. If you want to make sure it gets there, and not worry yourself sick - something I would have done for sure - then pay the extra to get it registered/certified... But if it's already in the mail, don't worry about it, it'll get there.
