I was just looking at this story on CNN and found it very interesting. I praise this guy for bringing attention to the underside of 'cosmopolitan' Istanbul - these issues effect so many places, globally.

Cabbie photographs the underbelly of Istanbul

here's his personal photo gallery website

Sevket

Thanks for the link! I had read about him, in the Hurriyet news, a while back and was interested in seeing more of his photos.

I just found out I will be going on a business trip to Istanbul, next month (YEAH), and wasn't planning on being able to go back until we actually had an interview. So this was a nice surprise. While I am there, we want to work on getting stuff together and ready, for when Fuat get's packet # 3. I've looked over a lot of the information on the Ankara Consulate web site and have a question about the birth certificate.

It say's "One original and certified copy"..

How should I be reading this? Do they want the original and then a certified copy? Or is it just the one copy.. Original and certified..

We already have the original. I'm just wondering we also need to get a certified copy of it. Maybe all my research and reading is making me read more into things than I need to!

Hi Jenn,

First - welcome to the Just Turkish!

I am sorry that I am just seeing this message now. I agree with everyone else that there is no sure way of knowing until you live it. I think one of the important things is that the strong desire to start a life together is there, which it sounds like the two of you have. It is hard that he has that pressure from his family. They are probably just scared of losing their only son to another country. If Fuat would like to talk with Onur, send me a PM and I can give you his email/IM name. It might be more helpful for him to talk to someone who has just gone through all of this and who is adjusting to life in America. Onur got here in February, so he hasn't even been here a year yet.

Good luck to both of you!

Julia

Hi Julia, thank you so much!! I will definitely contact you. I am sure Fuat would want to talk to someone who has is making this kind of transition!

Mina, thank you for the message. I know we don't really know each other, but you are in my thoughts. I think you are an incredibly strong, caring person and I am sure there are good things for you ahead.

Erika, thanks for clearing up my confusion on the bank letters and the advice. I will definitely be realistic with him on what to expect when he gets here. We do have a small Turkish community here, and there is a job waiting for him as soon as he can work, so hopefully these two little pluses with help make things a little easier!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is all doing well and happy! rose.gif

As for myself, I am sorry for not being here for a long time now being that I had to go through a grieving period in my life and thought it would be best for me to stay away for a while because I needed time to gather my strength and to get well again after being in the hospital due to the stress of my work and mostly because of the stress and problems in my marriage.

Some of you had already known for some time now that my marriage was over and that I would soon be divorcing. It wasn't easy living with someone who truly did not tried his best to make it work here because he was always missing his mother and Turkey.

Of course I understood his unhappiness and I tried my best to make his life easier here, but one can only do so much to help make things better when the other does not even want to try. sad.gif

Anyway as you can all see I have changed my signature now to being happily divorced soon because the heaviness of this marriage and visa process is finally over for me and I am much better now and looking forward to my new life and have been spending more time with my family and friends now, they are truly the most important people in my life! heart.gif

Well I wish everyone here much much Love & Happiness and a warm Welcome to all the new couples that have joined "Just Turkish"!!! smile.gif

GOD Bless Everyone,

Mina rose.gif

Hi Jenn,

For me all the paperwork was easy. I did EVERYTHING I could to make sure we would not get a REF. I too am over the poverty line so that was not an issue for us. I went to the bank, got the letter, gave 3 months of bank statements, 3 years of tax returns with w-2's, 6 moths of paystubs, sent in actual photos, emails, cards, payments he made on my phone bill from Turkey, bill was $ 1,400.00 blush.gif , Phone cards I purchased, cell phone bills which showed calls to Turkey and text messages, baggage receipt, Itinerary, my flight plan, my passport (all pages) my divorce paperwork (all pages) anything and everything.

Hope that helps.
Take care,
Debbie

Did you include all those things with packet # 3 ?? I had read someone else sent "proof of relationship" stuff in packet #3, just to make sure it made it to the "other side of the glass" and they had a chance to see it all before the interview..and then took a bunch more to the interview itself, so was actually considering doing that. OK.. now I don't feel so bad about MY phone bills. But they do get expensive don't they smile.gif

I have tax returns, W2's, can get a letter from my employer and show bank statements I can print off the internet but the letter from the bank is what may cause a problem. My company relocated me a year ago, but I kept my bank account in another state. It's not a national bank, so no branches in my current location. I kept the account because I had been with them for so long and I know I will be relocted back eventually... but the bank will not give me a letter if I request it in email or over the phone. I would have to come in to a branch. I will make the 7 hour drive if the letter from the bank is required. I know I would have enough financial stuff to show without a bank letter.. but if Ankara is going to want it, I will make the drive to Ohio!

Thanks for the input !

Jenn

I realize that I may have asked something that was too personal for some, so I hope I did not offend anyone. Thank you to the people who have sent me messages with their thoughts. I really do appreciate it.

Now, I have a not so personal question smile.gif

I know we are a long way off from having to worry about Packet # 3, but there are some things I know I can start working on now, or at least get ready to start working on them. I'm a little confused about what I need to submit with the I-134 form as far as supporting evidence.

I've read a few forums on VJ and everyone seems to have a different answer, and says it could depend on the consulate, so I am hoping someone can let me know what will be correct for Ankara.

I will not need a co-sponsor, and have been told by some of the senior VJ members that if I make well above the required amount that I will only need to provide the I-134, my tax return, W2 and a few paycheck stubs. Is this correct?

Some have stated I will also need a letter from my bank as well as copies of my bank statements.. others say this is only needed if you need a co-sponsor or only make slightly above the required amount.

Will I need to provide a letter from the bank and copies of my bank statements?

I had posted this in another forum, but it was suggested it may be better for me to post this here. Mina, thanks for the suggestion.

Today my Askim asked me a question I am not sure I had the right answer for. He's been a little stressed about all of this lately, even more so than I am, since getting the K1 will mean he's leaving family, his city, his country.. the only life he's ever known.

His question to me : "You know I really want to be with you more than anything, but will things be OK for me there? Will it be better for me there than here?" I told him, "Yes honey, I think it will be." and he said "How?"

I wasn't sure how to answer that. I told him he'd be able to earn more money to help his family, I thought he would have more opportunities here, after a while he wouldn't have to work as hard as he does now.. and, of course, that we would be together.

Really, I cannot honestly answer this question for him.. I've been to Turkey, but only on short visits.. never lived there for a long period of time. I can only say I feel everything would be OK for him here based on my own experience and I truly do feel he would have more opportunities here.

A little background that may be important.. He's never been out of Turkey, lives with his family and he's the only son. His parents like me, and always treat me like a daughter, but we know they would be happier if he stayed in Turkey and found a nice Turkish girl. Lately, there has been some pressure regarding this. He's currently works as a jewelry salesman in Istanbul. I already know he would be able to work in my company, in an entry level supervisory job, until he was able to find something that he really wants to do. He will have definite work until he knows what it is he really want to do...

We have a small Turkish community in my city, a couple of Turkish restaurants and grocery stores and a few mosques. No Ezan of course..

I know he's feeling torn between his family and me and I hate that I don't know how to ease his worries. I wish he knew other men that had come here, that could tell him.. "this would be better.. this would be worse".. but there really isn't anyone.

My question to those of you that have made this move ( or your spouses).. what can I say to him to help ease his worries?

We know he'll be able to go home, at least a few times a year, to visit his family.. but will things be better for him here? Has it been better for you? Has it been worse? Has it been the same? In reading some of the early posts in this forum, it seems like it has been a difficult adjustment for many.

How should I answer that question?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket for the Fiance
We are several months away from having to worry about this, but I am wondering about the packet that will be sent to Fuat from the Consulate in Ankara, Turkey.

Are the instructions only in English or are they sent in English and the native language of the country? He speaks excellent English, but I'm concerned about having to try to sort through difficult instructions and having everything done properly on his end. I know we could go everything together, over the web cam, but it will be so much easier if instructions are sent to him in Turkish as well as English.

Just wondering....

I have a big problem, and I don't know what to do. Please help me!!!

Like everybody my fiancé and I applied for the K1 visa. Everything went well, until now. I got a letter from the American Consulate in Frankfurt am Main. They sent me a letter, which says, that I have to send them my J1 visa (a copy from my passport ) and the DS 2019. I have my J1 visa, because it is in my passport. But I don't have my DS 2019 anymore. What should I do???
Everything is done in USA. I send also the DS 230 out, to Frankfurt. And now I got this. I don't know what to do

Jana

Jana, I handle the J1 program for my company and we hold onto all our employee files for at least 5 years. Your employer should still have a copy of your DS 2019 as they would have been required to copy it for your employee file. If you contact them, they can probably email or snail mail a copy to you. If it was more than 5 years ago they may not have it.. but otherwise they should be able to get this for you.

The work and travel agency you signed up with may also be able to get a copy for you.

I was looking at the I-134 form and it asks about stocks and bonds. Would I list the stocks and bonds in my 401K even if I can't touch that money until I retire or leave the company I am currently working for? The short answer is - 'don't use this type of 'investment' or if you do, you'd need to list the liquid value (after fees/penalties).

When it asks about the Life Insurance it asks about the amount and the cash surrender amount? Does the cash surrender amount mean how much is paid out if I die? I thought that was the amount of my life insurance, and not sure why the cash surrender amount would be different. I have never heard of this and thinking it may mean something else.

These fields (bank accounts, investments, assets, etc) are optional fields that can be left blank - if your income is sufficient, you do not need to disclose these optional items.

My income is above what is needed for the purpose of sponsoring him. So does this also mean I do not need to get a letter from my bank?

I got my notice of NOA2 this morning dated for yesterday and I'm going to go ahead and start gathering everything up that I need to send to Mathew.

Now I have a question! All of this according to http://travel.state....grams_4437.html

I currently live at home with my mom. If I'm understanding it correctly I would need to make $22,888 in order to be 125% above that poverty line since my household size would technically be 3(counting him). Am I wrong?

Thanks to everyone and anyone who helps me on this.

Are you supporting your mom, claiming her on your taxes, or the other way around? If you're the one supporting your mom, then you're correct, your household size is three. If not, then your household size would be 2, you and the intending immigrant.

I just live with her. She claimed me on her taxes last year, so I would assume it'd still be 3? But for money purposes, we're just roommates. Neither of us supports the other.

Kayla, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.. but if she claimed you on her taxes and SHE is the co-sponsor she would list 3 dependents. You would not list her on your form.. so for you it would only be two.

Not exactly sure how it works, with a co-sponsor, especially living in the same house.. Since your household would only be two you may not need to use her as a co-sponsor.. but since she claimed you on her taxes, you may not be able to do it without her.

I am sure someone with knowledge on this will chime in. I just filled mine out tonight too.. and I definitely suggest using the sample form on here. There were a couple of lines I would not have filled out properly if I hadn't looked at the sample.

See you in our regular forum smile.gif.. and then you can become the expert on this for the others there!!

OH, additionally, I have sent emails to the consulate through their website asking questions about my case and what they needed/wanted. They have been pretty helpful in their replies. They usually reply w/in 3-5 days and most of the time answer the questions I asked. I've so far sent about 3 emails to them.

I have actually emailed them about another question.. still waiting for an answer.. it's been 11 days.

He doesn't have a soc #, but the OP was asking about this.. my thought was that if they were supposed to answer the question about wanting one that everyone would answer "yes". I think I was asking about the question that said "if you don't have do you want one applied for". Well, if you answer this question wouldn't you say yes? I just put that he had no soc # and left it at that.

I did exactly as you did, and sent in both Part I and II. The website instructions list both.. the letter we received only listed Part I. Figured if we sent it, and they didn't want it, it was not a big issue.. would rather send them something they don't need than not include something they want.

Good luck with your interview. We're waiting to find out our date. Hoping for sometime in January. It says 3-4 months, but most people seem to be getting them in two.

Hey.. just more to add to my confusion smile.gif

We know we need to send Part I with packet # 3.. I had been told we needed to fill out Part II and take it with us to the interview, but not to send Part II with packet # 3.

Then it was posted on here that a K1 did not need to do Part II, but you were not sure if that just applied to China. So, I was going to take Part II with us just in case.

To be honest, when I look at the forms I would think that I needed to send Part I and Part II with packet # 3.. but the instructions only say Part I

A small part of me was thinking to send Part II anyway, even if the instructions didn't ask for it.

It gets a little confusing when you read so many things, then people who have been to your consulate say something different.. then people post it's not needed but that may just be for their consulate, etc.

From what I read, we need to send Part I in.. and then I was told to take Part II with us.

The post saying Part was not needed for K1 is was started my confusion, but again.. that information was not necessarily for our consulate.

This is true. An attorney (with consular experience) says that materials are put in a holding area upon arrival and can undergo screening for harmful substances, such as anthrax. That aside, the sheer volume of incoming shipments can prevent same-day processing. Remember as well that the foreign countries may take time to process packages through Customs.

Is was sent from within the country.. Istanbul to Ankara.. so I know it didn't have to go through customs. Probably sitting in a holding area like you suggested.

If I can get up early enough, I am going to call the consulate tomorrow. Couldn't get myself out of bed to do it today. Can only call between 3:00am-5:00am my time.

Erika, you are correct about emails.. The only time I have gotten a response from them was when I sent an email telling them I had been waiting more than 10 days for a response.. they responded within the hour smile.gif

Well, got out of bed in time to call.. called for an hour and a half and kept getting sent to a voicemail system that no one would answer.. finally got through to a live person 2 minutes before they closed for the Thanskgiving/Bayram Holiday. She was pleasnant, but was obviously in a hurry to leave work smile.gif

Told me that she could not find a record of it being received yet, but that it's a big consulate and it could take a week or more for it to reach their office and appear in their system. They are closed until Tuesday.. so guess I will have to continue to wait.

Found the UPS receipt, but every number listed on it gets rejected by the UPS web page as invalid.. so can't track it that way either.

Nothing can be simple I guess smile.gif

I've read in several threads that people can call Department of State to find out if their case has reached the consulate, or to find out an interview date. Wondering if they can tell me if Packet # 3 has been received by the consulate?

We've lost the UPS tracking number and can't check to see if the consulate ever received it ( was sent on 11/18). Would like to confirm it got there.

I know I am litte impatient, wanting to know the interview date just 5 days after packet # 3 was sent back to them.. but I would at least like to confirm it arrived without a problem.

Would DOS be able to tell me this? If so, does anyone know the number to call?

I know it's in the threads here, somewhere, but can't seem to locate it.

NOT UPS - it's DHL

This was copied from the DOS/consulate forum thread about DHL tracking.
You have to track by REFRENCE if you don't know the packet number.

I believe it would be something like EXP 18 NOV 2009A {you have to try different days}
You need to put in the zipcode for Portsmouth, NH in also - you can find that online. - it's 03801

While the above can be an interesting exercise, be advised you will never actually know which package contains your case file.

Thanks for the info.. but I am looking to find out if packet number #3 has reached the consulate. Not our case going from NVC to the consulate. We've already done the part with the file going from NVC ( via DHL) to the consulate. We've now sent all the required DS forms, I-134, police record, birth certificate, etc. and are waiting for Packet # 4 with our interview date.

I'm trying to find out if they have received the packet of information my fiance sent to them with all the documents.

I think I worded it wrong in my original post which is why people may be confused.

I must have mistinterpreted your first post. I thought you were referring to the package from NVC to the Consulate. Nevertheless, DOS does give information as to whether the P3 has been received back by the Consulate and noted in the file.

Thanks! Now.. I just have to find the number smile.gif

Yes DOS will have up to the date information There number is 202-663-1225 press 1 then press 0 will get you to a operator Just have your case number and beneficiary's name.

Thank you so much! I called, but they said the Consulate hasn't received it yet. It's been 3 days, and it was sent UPS, so seems strange to me that they wouldn't have it.

I guess I will just have to keep holding my breath smile.gif

I believe it would be something like EXP 18 NOV 2009A {you have to try different days}

Try contacting the Embassy/Consulate directly (telephone or email can be effective). Calling DOS in the US may not give you the answers you're looking for - the Embassy/Consulate will know the latest/greatest.

** Topic is "US Embassy and Consulate Discussion" related; moving thread there.

Whether you can reach anybody with current information is Consulate specific. In Manila you can but in Guangzhou, you can't, for instance. DOS's Visa information line DOES have up to the minute information in the database as to case status once the case leavesl NVC. They can tell you whether the file has been opened, P3 sent, interview date set, etc. with reliable accuracy.

To the OP, UPS has nothing to do with delivering your package and you would never have been given a tracking number anyway.

Actually, the Ankara Embassy requires you to send the information via UPS and we did have a tracking number for it.

I plan on calling the Embassy in the morning, but thought I would try DOS today if I can find a number to call.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAP in Ankara?

I'm wondering the same thing, since it seems all the males are being put in AP recently. I've heard it can take 3-6 months.

I know there are a couple of other people who have had their interviews recently and were put in AP. I can't remember how long they waited.. but hopefully they will chime in!

I have been planning a lot of things at my job, around the thought that we will get approved and he would be coming here by the middle of March, but will need to reschedule things quickly if we get put in AP. Luckily, they are easy to move around.. but there were some business trips I canceled, because I was not about to have him come into the country, hand him a house key and say "welcome home honey.. I'm off to China for a week." It won't be possible to reschedule the things I canceled, but would like to know how long AP could last.. so that I am prepared to re-arrange things at work later in the summer if I need to.

Hey, I just read somewhere that AP is usually 4-6 weeks.. not months.. but it seems some people have taken longer than that.

You don't have to complete DS-157 before sending out P3. DS-157 is not required to set up an interview date.

Write down the approx dates.

Sorry, i am confused. On the link that was sent to me (packet 3) it asks me to return all the forms, including the DS-157 before they will schedule an interview for me??

If your consulate asks for it..send it. Not all consulates want the same things sent before an interview is set up. The consulate we are going through also asks for DS-157 before they will give us an interview date. We had the same "date"' problem with Military service. He can remember the months/years but not dates. We filled out MM/YYYY

We didn't think we should just make up the date when it came to his military service, so we didn't include a day. I hope we didn't make a mistake.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionEmployment Question - ROC pending
Can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere..

I am USC and we applied for my husband's ROC in April.. VSC is really far behind and we expect that it will take several more months before we hear anything.

Today I lost my job. I can deal with that... but wondering if it is going to affect the outcome of Removal of Conditions. He is employed, and I am hoping to have another job again soon,so I probably should not worry but thought I would ask here.

Since ROC did not require me to file an affadavit of support is my unemployment going to play any part in this at all?

Close - I filed ours in the middle of August. Just got the NOA2 approval notice on the 29th of Sept. Where is your fiance? Melanie lives in the Cebu area.

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got it that quick!!!! I would love to have to just wait 6 weeks for it that is awesome!!!! Pam is in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan ........Did Melanie get all her stuff done yet? Pam got all her paperwork this week that she needs. Her Passport will be in next week .......I even had her get a TB test yesterday (which was negative)and when she wakes up she is going to the hospital for a chest ex ray to be checked !!!!!! I don't want to take any chances with a delay!!! Those 2 things cost less than $10.00 hehehe

I really was thorough when I sent the packet. Checked and rechecked and checked again!!

Melanie has all her documentation in order so we should be in good shape when the time comes. She just got her passport renewed so that's done......I can't wait for this to be done!

that is great .....I was just looking at at the people who filed in Vermont in August and they have all received their A02 when people who filed in July in California still have not received it!!!! wow !!!! There must be no work for them My family lives in Massachusetts I should have used there address!!!! stupid me!!!!

I'm a VSC Filer, but not getting my hopes up it will be so quick. I looked at the history and there was an almost dead stop at VSC earlier in the year and CSC was zooming ahead. It seems to go in spurts. If you are looking for other September filers there is a forum for September 2009 filers and one for September 2009 CSC filers.

I have no idea how to give you the links to those though smile.gif But I am sure you will find them. A lot of nice people on there.

I think it's really not fair how some people are acting on here. Everyone has been in this stressing/worrying stage but just because some people have been here waiting a while they think they have the right to make someone else feel like they're stupid for wanting this to hurry and get over with. Everyone needs to get approved but I don't think it's nice or fair to tell someone that they should not be checking/excited/worried just because they haven't been waiting forever.

Not to dispute or challenge your numbers but I find it very difficult to believe that that many (if any) petitions submitted in September '09 are/have-been approved. Simply not par for the course.

Since yesterday, VSC has approved 8 September filers. The shortest wait was 20 days, with someone getting NOA1 on 9/24 ( not an expedited case)..and NOA2 on 10/14... but there were only two VSC filers with an NOA1 date of 9/2.

Now.. let me preface this by saying that I realize that a lot of you have been waiting longer...but, out of the 1956 applications that were received by the USCIS on September 2nd, ALL of the fiance visa petitions have either been approved or given an rfe...EXCEPT for ours!

We were touched on 9/08 for some reason. I am positive our file is in a pile hidden in the basement, or at somebody's house or just plain lost.

I am happy that I found this site and am happy for everyone who has been approved, but just KNOW that mine is lost.

sad.gif

Don't panic yet! In looking at Igor's list, there were only 2 applications with NOA1 on September 2nd.. your's and the one 9/2 couple that has been approved. I didn't see any 9/2 applicants with RFE.. could only find two NOA1's for that date..maybe I missed one or two, but have looked at it so much today I am starting to see cross eyed... and they just started approving September dates yesterday... I'm sure everything is ok good.gif but I am betting that if yours is sitting on someone's couch, at home, mine is sitting right next to yours smile.gif

I agree - a chill pill is MUCH in order here. If you're this frazzled so early on, you're going to stroke out by the time she actually has an interview at the consulate.

Can anyone tell me where to go to login to the NVC site?. I read that some people did this but I cannot find where. I used the phone, got a live operator who said my docs were there, but a few days later the automated response said they were not there. Hmmm. Anyone help me here? Thanks.

And congrats to all who have passed this next stage!

From what I have been told the Automated system does not include informaiton for K1 visas.. you have to talk to a real person. Automated system will say they have no info on your case.

or just a copy of my tax return that i got from IRS

you just need the tax transcibt it is much shorter and easier there is a 1800 number and they will will mail to you in 2 days free charge lol

That is fast. I thought you had to fill out a form to get the tax transcripts.

I included 2008 copy of return and W2, and the same for my 2007.

In addition I sent in my employment letter, paystubs, and savings account information.

Is this suffice? Do I still need to send the tax transcripts to my fiance?

If you sent the Tax returns and W2's then you wouldn't need to send the tax transcripts too.. I sent the tax transcripts, so didn't send the W2's and tax returns. If you are unsure, it will only take you a few days to get the tax transcripts. I can't remember the phone # for this, but it's somewhere here on VJ. It's an automated system.. request what you need and they will have it to you in just a few days.
