Kayla: I'm glad you can now say you had nothing to worry about. I believed with everything in me that you'd pass.

Maggie relax it'll be a breeze!

Frenzy: everything will soon be all right! Goodluck!

I wonder where's Jenn?!?

I'm here.. I'm here.. We came home Tuesday night and haven't been on my computer since. Been pretty busy. I go back to work tomorrow, so will have more time to be on my computer. Just HAD to check in while I had a chance. Fuat is still sleeping, but we have another busy day ahead of us.

Now.. off to find some ice packs :) :) :)

Flight was supposed to come in at 3:30. My flight from istambul to JFK, last week, came in one hour early. Web page said flight was on time so I came at 2 just incase it got in early. Got here and found it was actually delayed. It is landing as I type this :)

Kayla so glad you took your papers as carry on.

Seb glad she made it

Omg omg omg omg. . . Today is really here!!!! I can't breath

Plane gets here at 3:30pm

Oh stop worrying, it'll be fine!

I wonder how's Kayla? I'm pretty sure she's reaching for that ice'pack! :star:

Actually, I am more worried about him getting on the plane than going through POE. He's never been on a plane before, never been past the front counter at the airport when he takes me there. Had to show him how to read a plane ticket so he could find his gate, his seat.. what to do when he gets to the airport, etc.

He had me bring a lot of his stuff back with me, because he wants to be able to do only carry on. Doesn't want to have to worry about figuring out how to find his luggage :) He insists on only bringing a back pack.. I INSIST he bring the small carry on suitcase I took to him.

I've tried to explain it to him, and my concerns, so I PRAY he listens and does what I ask ( he does not want to bring the carry on.. just the back pack). My concern is this:

Muslim Man
One way ticket to the United States
Not checking any luggage

RED FLAG RED FLAG RED FLAG

That doesn't look good and I am worried he will have problems with Security at the airport in Istanbul. Fuat, Please please please please please.. take that small suitcase.

Kayla.. have fun ice packin it :)

Frenzy Heart... hope you get your interview date soon. I know this is more important than school right now.. but it would be a shame to have to waste the whole semester like that.

OHH.. I bet you are excited that she is arriving tomorrow. Even if she will stay in New York a while before coming to Florida.

I'll be watching to see if you post anything about POE. I am hoping we have no issues on Sunday and it all goes quickly.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to follow along with everyone's posts but really haven't had a chance to reply. Congrats on so many of you getting your Visa's and good luck to those of you with interviews and POE's coming up! I look forward to hearing how everyone does, and how everyone is enjoying being with their significant others. I know how happy I am to finally be in Tampa with my man :)

I figured I would try to give you a bit of information about SSN's and EAD. As a K1 visa holder you are allowed to apply for a SSN, but wait it does say to wait 2 weeks so you are registered in the system. All I had to bring was my visa, passport and birth certificate. It took about a week to get my card in the mail and my SSN says right on it "Valid only with work authorization" So even though I have the card, I still had to apply for EAD (Form I765) so I can work. I applied for it with my AOS and AP travel document after we married. I am hoping it doesn't take too long to get that because I am going a bit stir crazy here. After you apply for your EAD you get a letter in the mail for a biometrics appointment, they fingerprint you, take your picture, and then they will send you an employment authorization card in..who knows how long! I guess if you get the EAD stamp in the passport right away, then you will still just need to apply for a SSN to work, although I am not sure how long the EAD stamp is valid for and you may need to apply again once you adjust status.

I hope this helps with any confusion!

The EAD stamp is valid for the length of the K1 visa.. 90 days. You do have to apply for EAD when you do AOS. Thanks for the info on what was needed for the SSN. I was trying to find out the info, since only the passport and visa are required for my J1 employees. I was wondering about the birth certificate and if Fuat would need that.
Jenn and FuatFemaleTurkey2010-03-19 18:16:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2009 K-1 Visa Filers

Sigh. TOO much confusion on that darn stamp. Plus I found out that the social security card they'll get (as a k-1 holder)will say "not authorized to work without EAD" so what the heck?

The stamp on the I94 is an EAD ( Though we won't start that conversation again about whether or not it's accepted by employers).. The green card will become his EAD when he has it.

Wow, I would ask the same thing "why?" Lol, you bought that place Jenn?

No.. I rent. My company has moved me to other parks every few years, so I always hesitate to buy. Never know how long I am going to be some place and the market has not been great... so, renting makes it easy to just pack up and move if I am transferred someplace else.

She's got her visa in hand! We are hoping for an April 2nd arrival. However, my brother-in-law that is in Iran right now said due to business projects she could be here a week earlier. Sooooo she should be here the end of this month or the beginning of next. Can you believe this, she's coming and we don't know exactly when.

Seb, someone else mentioned you can buy what she is bringing here. I think the more you bring the bigger risk for hassle. I know you are beside yourself with her arrival approaching. Butterflies hitting your stomach now?

KJenkins thanks for the SSN links! Congrats on the dress, and I agree Small and intimate is good.

Jenn I have a quick question, is it only JFK that gives the stamp on the I94? Faut will be here in a blink of an eye how's it feel?

Kayla what can I say? Take a deep breath, this is what you have to do to bring him home. It's your turn girl! Go get'em!!!

As far as I know, JFK is the only place that will give the stamp.. though I did read a post from someone that said they got it when they came in through Detroit. They don't give it in Washington DC or I would be having Fuat come in through my own airport.. instead of going all the way to New York.

I think the reason most POE's won't give it is the controversy on whether or not it is a valid EAD. Still not sure about that.. so many things say it is NOT valid.. so many things say it is. Even as an HR Director I can't be sure, because there is so much government information that contradicts itself. Even the instruction booklet for employers completing the I9 form has contradictory information. All I know is that I had someone working with the stamp last year and he had no problems with AOS.. and they KNEW he was working with the stamp on his I94... and the government page about this says they can work ( updated March of 2010)...even though one page of the I9 instructions says they can't.. and another says they can.

OH.. and congratulations on her having that visa in hand. It's been a long wait for your family :)

Ugh. I officially leave tomorrow. I'm sick as a dog. Why do I have to freak out so bad all the time?

Oh, and mom's employment letter magically disappeared. I'm completely pissed about that. I had it a few days ago. Thankfully I've got her most recent paystubs along with 3 years worth of tax documents so I should still be good. I hope. Oh lord I hope.

I'm leaving tomorrow too :) I hope you are feeling better by the time you go.

So, for Canada, you don't have to send the financial information with Packet # 3? I had to send it all in before we could even get an interview.

Seb, the question is......are they half-liter bottles? (standard for E. Europe). I mean I contraband ####### like that every time I go anywhere....and just like Jen, I always put it down on my declaration. I even get searched every time I go through Philly.... Last time I had 5 cartons of cigarettes and 6 1L bottles of boozes coming back and they just put everything back and said, welcome home...

But I am a US citizen...going on vacation. Is couple of bottles of vodka that you can get an a store here (at least ours sell stuff from Ukraine, Russia and Poland) worth risking? I mean this is a pretty important voyage she is taking. I think her parents might not understand, but maybe she just can toss one or two bottles aside later on?

I do not know the regulations for taxes or anything that you bring extra, just wanted to stick my 2 cents in.

Honestly though, I really think no one will search her or care how many bottles she's bringing

I still couldn't find anything on the government web pages, but here is what I found on Wikipedia. Not sure how accurate it is...

The amount of alcohol you can bring into the USA duty free is 1250ml bottle of spirit, as at June 2009. The amount NOT duty free will depend on where you are going as determined by the TSA, however, you may be subjected to duty and taxes.

Additional quantities may be entered, although they will be subject to duty and IRS taxes.

Duty is generally 3% of value and the IRS excise tax is generally between 21-31cents per 750ml bottle of wine, 67 cents/ champaigne, and $2.14/ hard liquor.

The total amount of alcohol you may enter the country with is primarily determined by the laws of the state where you will arrive back into the U.S. Each state's ABC board (or equivalent ) sets the amount of alcohol a person may bring into the state without a license or permit from that state. Travelers must check with the appropriate state ABC board, as the amounts vary from state to state. We regret that we are unable to provide this information, but CBP staff is not able to maintain information about each of the 50 State's various requirements.

There is no federal limit on the amount of alcohol a traveler may import into the U.S. for personal use, however, large quantities might raise the suspicion that the importation is for commercial purposes, and a CBP officer could require the importer to obtain an TTB import license (which is required for all commercial importations) before releasing it. If you do intend to travel with a large quantity of alcohol, we suggest you contact the entry branch of the port you will be entering the country through to discuss your situation in advance.

Duty rates on alcoholic beverages can be obtained in Chapter 22, "Beverages, Spirits and Vinegar," in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Alcoholic beverages purchased in duty-free shops are subject to duty when you bring them with you into the United States.

But.. I agree about wondering if it's worth it. You can purchase several kids of Polish vodka at just about any liquor store. Not sure about Florida's liquor laws. Do you have to go to a state run store for it? In Michigan, I could buy it in any gas station, grocery store, etc. When I lived in Ohio, and now in Virginia, I have to buy it at a state liquor agency.. but they have Polish vodka. I like Chopin.. and another kind that I can't remember the name of right now.

I have no idea...and I can't find where I read the 2 liter rule either. I read it on a government web page back in 2004.... right before my first trip overseas. I was checking to see what I could bring.

Of course, that was also 6 years ago so it is possible the policy has changed. I will see if I can find anything on it

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2009 K-1 Visa Filers

Yea really how many bathrooms do you have? 4? If I read it right. That has to be a pretty big place you have.

Joanna is going to be at JFK POE Saturday night at 9:45 I can't wait to hear from her when she calls me saying they let her in haha.

Does anyone know how many bottles of vodka you can bring? Her dad is trying to load up her suitcase haha. Us Poles lmao....can't stop laughing when I heard that she is going to be bringing 5 bottles I want to make sure that's ok first with customs.

You can bring in 2 liters without having to pay tax. I always bring more than that, but have never had my luggage searched. Even when I have listed it on my customs form they never noticed.. but, she has a higher risk of having her luggage checked. Worst case is that she would have to pay tax on it.

As for the bathrooms.. well 3 bathrooms and a half bath. The place is not all THAT big. It's a 2200 square foot condo. Upstairs there is a master bath, guest bath, there's one in the hallway outside the downstairs living room and a half-bath on the main floor. FAR more than any one ( or even two) person needs...I will admit that. When I told Fuat how many bathrooms we had his only response was... "WHY?"

I ask myself that question every time I have to clean them.

awesome! would love to see it if you can post. :)

don't freak out! it's going to be awesome. :) you are so close now!

Jenn, how are you doing? you all ready for Fuat?

NOOO.. not yet, but almost. At home now waiting for Stanley Steamers to arrive and clean the carpets. I am working on cleaning the kitchen and organizing the cupboards and drawers again , so they look nice ( even if they won't stay that way long :). Once the carpet guys are done, I only have to clean the two remaining bathrooms. Didn't clean them yet, since they will need to use them to dump the disgusting carpet water. Cleaning bathrooms if my least favorite thing to do.. so I already got the other two out of the way.

After that.. just need to go shopping and get some food in the house.. and then pack for New York :)

Jenn.. I can't believe Fuat is going to be there this sunday... that's incredible. Jenn I wish you all the best doing the finishing touches in his expect arrival. I bet it feels and will feel surreal for awhile until you both settle in. Very happy for you both!

Kayla.. you are one of the best organizers and planners we know.. you don't need to freak out or stress out ..everything is going to go smoothly and enjoy your time in Montreal with Mathew. You both will have each other for support during the interview process...and you'll see..they will be very nice..and very quick!

paciencia y fe .. How are your plans coming along, I see april 2nd is the arrival date! That's coming up fast. I hope POE goes smoothly!

You all have become some of the most amazing people I know.

I hope you have a guest room because me and Glenoi will be coming over in June or so when we're ready to visit the park :star:

Park opens April 2 and is open for 10 days straight.. then only open on Saturday's and Sunday's until Memorial Day.

Jenn: I don't remember how long ago this was but you said something about the EAD stamp that JFK gives? What was it?
Because I just found his i-94 form and it has it there, I thought it'd be in the passport...

It will be on the I94 not the passport or visa. It's valid for 30 days.. technically. I say Technically, because there is some discussionon whether or not it is valid for K1 at all... In February 2009 the rules changed and it was not supposed to be valid for a K1 visa.. but they were still giving the stamp anyway. In July of 2009 I had a past employee come back with the stamp and was told, by our legal team, I could let him work.

The other day I was reviewing the information regaring non-citizens working and the K1 was listed as being ALLOWED to work without an EAD, but that an employee may require that they have an EAD before hiring them. So, technically it looks like they are legally allowed to work but that an employer has the right to refuse hire based on not having an official EAD.

Ok, what link are you refering to?
As you said, the reps usually don't know what they're talking about, I called and explained the situation and the lady is like "whatever immigration told you, that's what'll happen" and I'm like "immigrationn didn't tell him it'll be mailed" and she's like "well that means you didn't bring proper documents to apply for it" and I just hung up because she said she CAN'T verify his eligibility and my patience wore thin.
So I called immigration, that number we used to call to check if we got our NOA2 and the thing would never ask if I need to be connected to an agent and when I press 0, it says it doesn't understand. I'm so p'd off
BTW, did Fuat ever recieve his V'day gift?
Regarding your comment to Kayla: in a few days I'll STILL be with my honey because he's here for good and we won't be booking out of a hotel and crying on the way to the airport. (I just had to say that :star: )

Karen is correct. He needs to wait 10 days after arrival before applying or he won't show up in whatever government system they use to verify his visa. For my employees it's called SEVIS (Student exchange visitor immigration system).. not sure what it's called for a K1 person. If you apply before then he will get rejected and will get a letter, about 4 weeks later, telling him he needs to reapply.

I can't find the link I was talking about, but am running out the door to work, will see if I can find it later.

Karen, I hope all goes well with the surgery.

No.. Fuat didn't get the valentines day gift. Someone ate that darn chocolate..

Yeah.. smart alec.. in a few days I will be with my honey too and we won't be booking a hotel or crying at the airport either :):):):)

OK.. well.. we'll be at the airport and a hotel but you know what I mean :)

So Much to reply to... I am sure I will miss something so forgive me if I miss replying to a post.

The applications ask if we want to request a social security number, but I believe they are only automatically issued for people on certain types of visas.. they are not automatic for K1. I work with the SSA a lot, and I have noticed that they do not always know what they are talking about. On the main guides there is a link that is recommended to be printed and taken with you to social security. It states that a K1 CAN get a Soc. # without having done adjustment of status..Most people have been turned away by SSA because they people think they can't apply until they have residency. My local office told me the same thing when I told my Rep that Fuat would be attending the first application session we are holding for our international employees. I plan on showing them the information from that link. Krystle.. go back... I am sure he is not going to be issued a card automatically.

Kayla.. the picture of the cake you want is gorgeous.. what she made was not even close and I could tell that without enlarging the thumbnails.

Ney.. congrats on still being smoke free.

Seb... we are slipping. That's why we were on the second page :) Either that or we are all just too busy to spend all our time on here now :)

It's now 1:00am and I am waiting to give my "Turkish Wake Up call" in 30 minutes. He has forgotten about our time change... otherwise he would not have asked me to wake him when it is 7:30am for him. Usually wake him when it is 6:00am.. but he is at his uncles tonight, is closer to work so he doesn't have to be up so early... and doesn't have an alarm clock.. so I am bound and determined to make sure I stay awake long enough to make that call.

If he suddenly remembers that we have started Daylight Savings time already he is going to be really upset that he asked me to call him later than normal.. and that I stayed up so late to do it ( Turkey doesn't change their clocks until 3/28)

I've been using the extra "awake" hours to get caught up on some little things around here that I thought I would have to put off until after he was here.. Exhausted from working to get the park open.. and working to get things ready for him.. but it is all going to be worth it in the end :)

Kayla.. just a few days before we are both with our men!! And.. in a few days he will by walking through the door of our home.. and.. I will say, "Honey.. here's the house. Hold on, I have to get on the computer and see how Kayla's interview went." :):)

I will be thrilled to have him finally walk through the door.. but I DO have my priorities :)

oh I like his ring too Krystle!!! Very beautiful engagement ring Seb!!!

Yes I love Maggie Sottero dresses.. it looks different IRL than it does on the model girl.. but it definitely screamed me.

I loved the rings ( both Krystle and Seb), Maggie I LOVE that dress and I can just imagine you in it. I even like the flower on it.

Beautiful.. all of it.

Spent several more hours trying to get the house ready. You would think I was finished .. but no :) Tomorrow show be the last day of working on the house, then having the carpets cleaned on Thursday.. Friday will be grocery shopping.. and then Saturday.. off to NYC :):)

HAA HAA.. Seb.. I'm the first post on the new page this time. Beat you to it :)

Had a few minutes free and just thought I would check in.

So far I am liking the new design of VJ. I don't know if the colors are better on my computer at work, or Capatain Ewok got tired of everyones complaints that it was too white and made changes, but the colors are much better on this computer. I don't feel like I am starting at a white wall and trying to read faint letters.

Computer at home is a Mac.. will have to wait and see what it looks like when I get home before I will be able to tell if it was color changes made by Admin or just computer differences.

Much better on this computer.

Hope you are all having a good day... tonight will be another long night of cleaning and organizing and doing all the things I haven't done since I moved into this place a year and a half ago: Hang curtains, buy a coffee table, by a tv stand, get a wall cabinet for one of the bathrooms and on and on. I'm never home, so I never bothered. Now trying to get it all done in one week :)

Seb.. once again you are at the top of the page :)

A & D.. I loved your post because NOW we know what the A stands for :) I have been trying to get for a long time.

Krystle.. I love the ring. Love it

Karen.. my flight gets into JFK at 6:30pm. Assume I will be at the hotel by 7:00pm

The new design isn't too bad.. and I have noticed that some things have been changed since this morning. Some of the "complaints" people made ( including me) seem to have been addressed right away.

I have been working my butt off every night this week. Trying to get closest and dressers and cupboards cleaned out. Have 8 bags of stuff in my car to go to Good Will. Although I have accomplished a lot I have too much to still get done. I shouldn't have waited, but I wasn't going to do ANYTHING until we had that visa. Not because I didn't want to do it.. but we are both a little superstitious and didn't want to assume anything.

Time to give him his wake up call and then I am off to bed.

Good night everyone!

I've taken a cab from the city to the airport before.. think it ran me about $50. Though someone told me I could take a cab to the closest subway station and get into the city that way. Never done it and only been on the NYC subway one time. Would really need to know exactly what trains etc. Otherwise, I will end up in New Jersey or someplace :)

I live in NYC (astoria - just across the east river from east side of manhattan) - would love to see/meet you. How long will you be in the city? I'm guessing the night of the 20th you'll probably just want to stick around JFK though right? and I don't want to infringe on jenn & fuat time after that!

I am not opposed to leaving the JFK area on Saturday night... my only plan is to sit in my hotel room and wait for Fuat to call that he's on the plane ( that won't happen until 3:30am Sunday). I don't know NYC very well.. so if I went somewhere it would need to be someplace easy for me to find ( or easy for a taxi driver to find)

OMG, I've put on wrong shoes before but I've never actually walked out the door with them, that's hilarious!! So what did you do, go buy a new pair, go home??

Noooo.. sat at my desk barefoot all day and then, when it was time to go home, I put on my lovely shoes and wobbled out :)

Today I matched!

Maggie: yes, every 3 months!! Loved every minute of it but if I had known this fiance visa would've worked I would've never went so often but what the heck, only a few people can say they go to Jamaica 4 times a year.

Seb: WHAT car is that, 43k????

Karen: I don't have a wii and don't plan on getting one...

Ney: I hope you do good w' quitting smoking!
I never smoked (except when I was 16 and I choked like hell) but I always thought that it's very unlady like to smoke but what the heck, we're all grown.

Jenn: I'm a 45 minute bus ride from the city. I'm looking into going to 1. The Bodies Exhibition, 2. Museum of Sex or 3. Dinner and a movie that weekend so let me know...
Oh, what hotel are you staying and how much was it if you don't mind me asking?

Good morning everyone! Ready for a funny story?

Yesterday I was feeling pretty good and thought I was over the jet lag. Got dressed for work, walked out the door and went to the store. Did some shopping and then went into my office. Was thinking maybe I wasn't over the jet lag, because the whole time I felt like I was walking funny and couldn't figure out why. So... I get to my office, and am talking to one of my managers and... we both look down at my feet for some reason..

and....
I was walking funny because I was wearing one brown shoe with a 1 1/2 inch heal and one one black shoe with a 1 inch heal :) Guess I was NOT over the jet lag and couldn't even dress myself properly :) I wonder how many people in the store noticed and thought I was a freak :)

Will need to make sure I am wearing matching shoes today.

Krystle, after he gets through the airport and we get to the hotel it will probably be around 5:30 or 6:00pm. We will get something to eat and then walk around Times Square a bit I am sure.. If he is not too tired my plan is to then go earn the need for some ice packs :):)

On Monday, we are going to do one of those hop-on/hop off bus tours of the city. Go to Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc. We only have the one day to see everything and that is the best way to do it. When I take my international employees there we do it that way and you can see pretty much everything in one day.

We fly out Tuesday afternoon.

Another friend of his ( via web cam.. they've never actually met) asked to go to NYC with me to meet him. Fuat said he would rather it just be the two of us the first few days. I can definitely understand that :) But if you are going to be in the city on Sunday or Monday night maybe we can get together for dinner.. Or Saturday night if you are there. I will be alone that night.

At the moment I can't remember the name of the hotel. I will have to look in my emails. It's not a great hotel.. two star, but has great reviews, a free parking garage, decent size rooms, breakfast included and room service. I got it for $70 a night. I can send you the name if you want it.. found it on Expedia. Location is great.. one block off Times Square. Figured I didn't care if it was not a world class hotel.. it was cheap, near where we wanted to be...

Ney Congrats on quiting smoking. Just keep with it and you will be good in no time. In the mean time we will forgive you ;)

March 20th is the day Joanna enters the JFK. I'm getting nervous because she doesn't speak much English and then she is staying in New York for a week then flying to Florida either on the 27th or 28th of March. I just hope her POE goes easy without a hitch.

Hey congrats on quitting smoking. When I did it ( the first time.. there WILL be a second).. the 4th day was the hardest and after the first week you pretty much have it beat as far as the constant nagging in your body.

I will be at JFK on the 20th.. just booked my flight today. Decided to fly rather than drive. After I added up the cost for parking in NYC, tolls, gas etc.. it was cheaper to fly. What time does she get in? I am sure everything will go fine.. but I worry about Fuat going through POE on the 21st and he speaks excellent English.. so I guess saying "don't worry" is pointless.

OK... after reading a few other posts on here I am no longer going to complain about my student loan. Someone has me beat :)

Krystle and Karen how close are you to NYC? I am staying at the Best Western at JFK on Saturday night.. will then meet Fuat at the airport on Sunday and we'll go to the hotel in the city. Normally I wouldn't pay for a hotel right in the city but there is only ONE time that will be his first time in NYC and his first time in a city outside of his own country.. so decided it was worth it ( plus found a good deal on-line).

I'm getting really excited now.. but instead of sitting here and typing to all of you I SHOULD be organizing closest and cleaning :):)

lol around here we have a commercial for a cable provider and it has this 90 year old woman putting something in the mailbox and then she says "WHOO!" and the narrator says "Tough is paying off your student loans. Switching to Suddenlink is easy!". I figure that's going to be me one day.

9 days until I see my honeybunny!!!! 12 until his interview!!!

HAHAHAHAHA.. that is going to be me!!

From 23k to 50k? Holy #######
Hey  on that winning ticket!
Jenn, the reason why we're not on the top of the page is because we've grown now, back then before NOA2 "age" we were kids, and we'll be kids again when it's time to file for AOS. Was that a good explanation? :star:

Great explanation :) But I go out of the country for a few weeks and everyone grows up?! :):)

This is the second day in a row that I have logged on and this thread has been towards the bottom of the SECOND page... something is wrong here. It's usually at the top of the first page :)

Debt? Hmmm.. I don't think you know what debt is:) I don't have a lot of credit card debt, but do have a car with about $10k left to pay... but.. then there is the student loan. Did you know that if you borrow $23K and take deferment on it for years and years.. because you can't afford to eat AND pay your student loan.. that it will eventually turn into $50K with all the interest they tack on?!! Then, when you finally make enough money to be able to pay that loan it's ballooned into something outrageous. They should teach that in college.

Come on Lottery ticket!!!! That's my retirement plan and plan for paying off my student loan.. I'm going to win the lottery

Oh.. and that's my Mom's retirement plan too... that I will win and take care of her :)

If you talk it over with your family, I am sure that they will understand or at least offer up alternatives that will make everyone happy. We have been in the same boat. His parents are coming and his best friend is coming, but an entire Italian village of family is unable to come :). We decided to do one here and one there. Maybe if you and Fuat and your family talk it out you will be able to find a way to do a ceremony there for his family.

Good luck to you.. (L)

Our plan is to go to Turkey, in the late fall, with my family and have a Turkish wedding there.. but my family had originally planned that we would go to Vegas ( with them) and have the "first" marriage with them there too. If we do that, we won't be able to do AOS in time for him to be able to travel back for the birth of his sister's baby ( the families first baby). We have decided to do a quick, civil ceremony, here in Virginia.. within a week or two of his arrival.. and have it just be us and our two witnesses. This is what I think will upset my family..that I would just rush the actual marriage and not have them there. They would not be able to make it to Virginia for this and we can't go to Vegas for at least a few months. So.... going to call my parents today and talk to them about all of this. Mom lives in Michigan, Dad lives in Nevada.. dad keeps sending texts asking when we are coming to Vegas and what arrangements he should make. Mom keeps asking why we can't do it in Michigan in a few months when the whole family is in town for our annual family reunion. Can't make everyone happy, so going to do what makes us happy.. but hate that it will make them unhappy. We'll see what happens when I talk to them about all of it.

trying to adjust to the time difference and the jet lag. Went to bed at 6:00pm last night, woke up at 3:00am and couldn't go back to sleep... watched a movie and finally decided to get out of bed.

Was reading about everything for AOS and had a sad thought.. we won't all be doing this together. Some of us will be done before others even start... but at least we'll be able to help the ones who start the process after us.

Truth is.. I don't want to join some other group to do this. Would rather stay right here in our September forum :)

Fuat and I decided to do a quick Civil Ceremony so we could get everything done as soon as possible.. and will then try to do a "family ceremony" when our families can be together. I am terrified at the thought of telling my parents that we are going to just go do this as soon as possible and have a family wedding later.. I think they are going to be upset. My brother eloped... it really hurt my mom.

His sister is having a baby and we want to make sure we do AOS and he has his advanced parole in time to go home for that.. so if we stick with our original plan, and go out to Vegas in a few months, he won't have his travel documents in time.

Personally, I don't care if we do this in our Pajamas at city hall... but I can't help but think of my family. His family can't be here.. and that makes me feel even worse if we do something with my family and not his... especially since his family is still pretty upset about all of this.

My cousin did the quick ceremony, and a full blown out wedding later, but didn't let the whole family know she was actually already married. I don't think I can do that to them either.

Wish there was an easy answer... but will just have to hope my mom and dad understand.

Right now breathing a big sigh of relief that we have the visa in hand. A friend had their interview in Ankara on March 1. They were told they were approved, but still had not gotten visa as of today.. they called the embassy and we told they were in AP.

This is what I feared would happen to us and I had heard of others being told they were approved, getting the passport back with no visa in it and a letter saying they were in AP. I almost cried when I saw the actual visa in the passport.

I feel so bad for this couple. They have known each other much longer than Fuat and I, had far more proof than us.. and she's actually been in the US as a student. They were so excited to get approved, and already bought her ticket.. and now to get this news today. I am just heartbroken for them.

I pray it will all be taken care of soon.

YOU are the best wedding coordinator as far as I am concerned!

Kjenkins.. that would be great to try to meet in NYC. How far are you from there? I am planning on getting there the night before Fuat arrives, so will be alone in the big city :)

Kayla.. your interview is exactly one month after ours.. AND will be the day Fuat actually walks through the door of our house :) I picked this place for us, over a year ago, and can't wait for him to finally walk through the door. March 23 is going to be a great day!!!!

Really? What POE is he flying into?

Joanna is arriving at JFK on March 20th and spending a week in NYC with family then flying to Florida on 27-28 most likely. Looks like you and me will have the same date as the deadline to get married haha. I would love to spend a week in Florida but I only get one week paid vacation and March isn't a good time to take my vacation. Will be taking it on the 4th to the 11th of April.

Kjenkins I read more here then I post. I check VJ daily for the most part unless I'm dead tired after work. I really can't wait for Joanna to be here and to take my vacation from work.

I AM HOME! Got in at 1:00am and slept a little.. now trying to go through 600 work emails that I couldn't access while my computer would not work.

He is coming in to JFK on March 21! I will be going back to New York on March 20 to meet him there!!!!! We'll spend 21st and 22nd in New York and then drive back to Virginia on the 23rd. Thought about flying there and back.. but decided to drive it instead.
