No $hit...I know it's a space issue, but darn it, it's our consulate.

Que chiiiiidddooooo!!!!!!!

Great job, Monica. So, so, so happy for you.

What a dickhead...how many Mexicans have addresses on their IFE cards from years back? I bet this giy doesn't even has his current address on his.

I've always been peeved about the fact that the petitioner isn't let into their consulate but left to wait outside. Does anyone recommend trying to get in with their partner the first go around or only if it turns ugly like it did for Monica?

Me too, kitkat.

I so hope that she and Edgar are way too busy celebrating to get to a computer.

Oh my f%cking Jesus...I'm ripped right now.

Do you and Edgar work at the same place? Did you bring your FM3 with you? Is there anyone who can fax letters saying that they know both of you? Any saved letters from your mom or dad saying how psyched they are to see their future SIL? Any saved emails from you from 2003 talking about having met him? Do you have a credit card that shows you making charges in Campeche or Playa? If you do, the credit card company should be able to provide you with that. #######, I know that this is weak evidence, but I know how damn hard it is to prove a relationship in Mexico when you realy don't have anything in your name, much less in both your names.

Since he's got Playa all over his biographical info, do you have anything to tie you to Playa? Your FM3 with your address in it that would match his address?

I know that it'll be a b%tch to get any evidence for tomorrow morning, but maybe figuring out creativiely what can tie you two together and go in there and push, push, push like kitkat said.

Abrazos!

Monica: could you get the name and number of the person who owns the house? How much are you paying?

We'd normally just wing it, but we're coming in separately so I need to make a reservation to have a place to meet.

How do you feel? Sick to your stomach? I know I will be a total freak show.

I'll be happy to report to my Edgar that the special parts of su tocallo remain unmolested (except of course, by his fiance :)).

I was planning on making reservations at La Playa, but just read today about El Meson de Maruca, which seems a bit cheaper.

All the best for tomorrow at the interview!

Oh, right! I'm such a wreck about my own trip that I forgot he's going by himself. Probably better for you that we're going later...we'd probably get the guy drunk and make him tell us all sorts of weird stuff about you. :)

Uh, no...no Poot for me. I can't begin to think of the awful pronunciation we'll have to endure. Gonna take the Tuz, though...which incidentally means lie in Maya (as in mentira, not lie down).

After seven years, I still can't pronounce Poot correctly, no matter how hard I try.

Well, hopefully we won't have to worry about a false hit. I doubt there are many E.P. Tuz Poots floating around the US.

Believe it or not, he actually got the fiance packet yesterday! Only a month after I received mine!

You must be frantic right about now, TijuanaHilton! Actually, you sound frantic!

I've been getting advice from my students about the paquete latino for cable (and getting rid of cable in English since I barely watch it) and pestering my employer about late enrollments for summer ESL classes! Of course, I get all screechy and neurotic when they comment on how excited I must be....but don't you know this isn't for sure, they could deny him for some pendejada?????? I'm starting to feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Oh #######, that reminds me...I have to buy tickets to get us back from the southwest!

People also think I'm a nutjob when I answer their question about the big wedding day: "Oh, I'm thinking sometime the week of June 25th."

The only reason you'd need the BC translated is if it's in another language besides English or Spanish. Not sure about AOS though.

So how are the police certificates accepted by the consulate different from the constancia de antecedentes no penales? Not that I'm complaining about not having to send homeboy out for another document.

But the antecedentes no penales is extremely easy to get, at least where we live. In fact, he has to get one and submit it every time he gets a new job. And he grumbles about getting that along with his tarjeta de salud.

uclacutie...they blocked vj at work because of you? Too funny.
TH: while it's not listed in the docs for the fiance visa, it says on the first page that the DS-156 is required for all classes of visas. So yes, fill it out!

I'm also assuming we'll need to do the supplemental DS157 for the fellows.

Thanks for the support, guys. But I talked to him last night and the passport issue is TOTALLY his fault.

When they gave him his passport, they told him to check it carefully and if everything was correct, then sign off on it.

He signed off on it. His fault. Grrr.

On a good note, I quizzed him about various things that they might ask him at the interview, and he answered them all correctly. I know you don't know him, but trust me when i say that this was incredible. He could even explain why I was in his village and what I wrote my thesis on. I didn't even know that he knew that.

Yeah, the thing that really ticks me off is that he's already paid for a five year, and now that he has to get it redone, he'll prob only be able to pay for a shorter one.

Well, everything has gone smoothly so far, I'm not surprised that there's a problem to mix things up a little bit.

Hey, JessiPooh...yep, I'm here too! I've seen the picture of you and your hubby many times, but until you made that comment it didn't click that i've seen it in two different places!

Well, kitkat, that's exactly what I would do. I can be one pushy b$tch. Unfortunately, he gets meek in these situations and just accepts what people tell him. I will try to rile him up about the injustice of paying for another password and see if that fires him up to go to the office.

Crisis with homeboy's passport!!!

Just let me know that they left out an e on his second name, so it reads Ptronilo instead of Petronilo. He went back and they told him that he'd have to pay for another passport for it to be changed. This sucks because he got the longest one, either 3 or 5 years. And even worse is that he has to pay for their oversight.

So will this need to be done? Crapola.

Would it be wise to email Juarez?

I'm having a ####### moment on a travel forum where I posted a question asking for info about good routes to take through the Southwest and interesting sites to show homeboy. I also asked a question about marrying in New Mexico since the fellow won't have his SS# yet.

This is one of the enlightened responses I've received:

I believe no matter where you are, if you are a US citizen and he is not, then you will have to get a visa stating that you are sponsoring him. I also think you will have a waiting period, and you will have to be interviewed to prove you are really in love, and that this is not just to give him citizenship.

Um, thanks dude, but I can count five pieces of incorrect info in these two sentences. But can you recommend a hotel in Tucson?????

We're flying to juarez on June 18th! And we'll cross from there if everything goes well. No reason to spend the extra $$ to go back to cancun, no matter how much I'd love to.

Monica: you can edit what appears at the end of each post in your signature in your profile.

I think (and may be wrong) that the majority of visa interviews go smoothly. But those with probems we read more carefully and they definitely catch our eye more...and then we get to panic about what if. That's why I've spent less time here as the trip to juarez grows closer! I'm hoping for the best and will deal with it if the outcome is otherwise.

Homeboy had his first freak oyt about this whole thing a few days ago. He's petrified and really overwhelmed.

Bought our tickets! Well, now I know that we will both arrive in Juarez on June 18th. As to where we're staying, for how long, and how we're going to get back to Providence, that's all up in the air.

I want to take him on a tour of my favorite places in the Southwest: Tucson, Bisbee, Silver City, Santa Fe, and hoepfully get married in one of them!

Of course, there is an ulterior motive at play...I want to move to the Southwest and hopefully he'll fall in love with it!

I think he's going Interjet, so it seems it might be safer for him to go to the local office in Cancun. Ironicallu, a friend was looking for a way to get me payment for a freelance job I did for him without using Western Union. Looks like I found the way!

I have NEVER been asked to produce my credit card when checking in...they've always used my name only. Of course, this would be the one case where they decide it's imperative to see the credit card and want it to match!

I'm about to buy tickets to Juarez, but have a question about my charging his ticket from here with my credit card. I've read that some people have had problems at the ticket counter when checking in because they've been asked for the credit card and of course it has a different name.

Have any of you bought tickets for your SO from the States for them to use to fly within Mexico? Did it go well or badly?

I talked to a rep at Aeromexico, and he said it'd be okay, but I still want to check with people who have done this.

Well, if you look at it that way, it might behoove us to wait until the increase...but then again, I know that the EAD has been taking a few months.

I guess I can't think about that now...should probably get us tickets to Juarez before I start thinking about the steps here in Providence!

Oohh...yours is an interesting twist on the Mexico/US stories I've heard. So Acuna is Del Rio's sister town?

No prob about the questions! It is amazing how many people are familiar with family-based petitions, especially the K1. I'm most familiar with relationships with Mexicans, since there were so many in Cancun. But in the few months I've been working at a new job, I work with (at sister nonprofits, not the same office) a woman who is married to a man from Senegal and another who was born in Russia and petitioned for her now-husband who is from Cape Verde.

We met in his village in Yucatan when I showed up there to do field work for my undegrad thesis. His sister found me sitting confused in the park and brought me home with her, and I stay there for 6 months. Then moved to Cancun with him for amost five years.

He's scared, but about different things I am. Like the layover in Mexico City. And the whole United States thing. And leaving his family. So I guess his fears are bigger than mine!

Yep, I've got the same concerns you do...and I'm only working myself up more. I guess if they're going to give us a denial because of una mamada, despite seven years together, then so be it.

I think about all of the bazillion things that could go wrong, and I think that if any one of them results in bad news, that it was meant to be. And I'l figure out a way to move back there and we'll work it out.

Yep, the AOS is done at your local CIS office. In most cases, it sounds wiser to bring a third party interpreter, but on the border, I'm not sure.

Spanglish is a perfecty acceptable language when you're in a relationship! It seems they do the interviews in Juarez in Spanish...but are you asking about AOS or Juarez?

Nope there are some more people around, but it seems that this thread was much more active a couple of months ago.

Those I know that are in various stages before the interview: me, you, Janet, TijuanaHilton, Alcatrazk (although his fiancee might very well be on the way to Juarez)...and I think a few more.

My current freak out involves: his nervousness under duress (I had to be the pushy one when deaing with authority, he'd admit to things he's never even done if questioned), his tatoos and the possibility of a psych visit during the medical.

And I'm a high strung person under the best of circumstances. Well, I guess if we're denied I'll move back down there.
