Actually, I did some independent querying of the VJ database two days ago and my conclusion was that only about 1/3 of the people who filed in June have their NOA2.

There were 116 NOA1's issued in June, of those 55 have their NOA2 and 22 of those were May people crossing over. Going by filing date, there were 89 peeps who filed in June and 34 of those have their NOA2 (one got the NOA1 in July).

So see? Not so bad.

I will join in your sadistic pleasure by doing the Happy Dance of Approval. Yep, not only did I get approved on time, but I also had missing documentation sent after the fact matched up perfectly! I sent an imperfect petition, and it was the likely cause of my approval coming a few weeks early because someone picked it up out of a pile and decided to just work on it.

Not only that, but the NVC mistakenly had the wrong embassy listed to send it to originally, but when I called to check I was able to get the error corrected in one day! Yep, one day. They were awesome. I'm a Lucky One. Doing a Happy Dance. Right here in front of you.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Or choke on it, whatever pleases you most.

Ok, this seems absurd to me that when a form says type or use blank ink that that does not imply to go ahead and use black ink as well when you sign...

BUT I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE: you can avoid a possible RFE is you use blue ink and NOT BLACK for all signatures.

As the petitioner on my initial I-129F petition for alien fiancee submission, only one of the signatures was in blue ink. That caused them to send me an RFE because they said the other signatures in black were photocopies, not originals.

I was able to convince them in a required cover letter of explanation and resubmission that they were indeed original signatures in black ink. And they accepted the submission on the second try without changing any of the signatures, but it did get me an RFE and cause me about a 15 day delay in getting my NOA1.

I will always do signatures in blue ink from now on.

Congratulations, we received our approval a week ago. :dance:

Saludos a todos from Bogota, Colombia..

Great news, after 4 hours at the Colombian Embassy today, Our K1 Visa was approved..

They asked for no additional evidence and I was never asked any questions.. Maritza was only asked about the dates of my last trip and how we met.. They told her the paper work looked good and they were approving the Visa..

I cannot possibly tell everyone how much the VJ Community has helped, but, there is no doubt in my mind we would not have been able to get through this without all of you..

Just to clarify...her conditional GC expired while she was waiting for her lifting of conditions to come through. And Immigration kept the conditional GC, but now they stamp her foreign passport yearly to say that her I751 is pending and they've even written her USCIS case number in the passport.

Any suggestions for this situation?

A student of mine had an active I751 petition, but her lawyers have seemed to have dropped the ball. They're saying the on uscis site that her case number is valid and I have the feeling that the case was closed due to inaction on her lawyer's part.

I was hoping to call USCIS at the customer service number, but they say that they don't give specific case info out over the phone.

Is there a number that we can call to find out what's up?

She recently moved from Puerto Rico and supposedly had her case transfered here. She was called to an interview in PR, but went to an Infopass appointment so she could could her address and have her interview here in providence. This was in January and the officer didn't say anything about her cased being closed.

Where can she find out what's up, as her lawyer apparently seems useless?

So now I'm replying to myself before anyone else does! Had a thought...I am submitting the lease for our new place as part of the evidence...might it be wise to attach a letter right after the lease explaining our move and address change? Unfortunately because in both places our landlord is just a property owner and not a management company and therefore the lease is simply one of those generic ones that can be purchased at Staples. Does it make sense to include that eve though it's so unofficial?

And another concern, might as well just include it here! We've got very little of the "traditional" evidence such as cars owned together (still driving an ancient car that was purchased long before he came here), 401Ks and joing health insurance (I work for a small nonprofit which doesn't offer a 401K and the additional cost for putting him on my insurance would cost about $700/month), and joing bank accounts (no real explanation for that, I just kept the account I've always had and he opened a new one), or any sort of property (again, social workers aren't exactly banking) or life insurance.

But what we DO have is:
an affadavit from my mum
jint tax returns
flight itineraries from vacation last year and the upcoming one (my mother joined us last time and will join us again...and speaks to that in her affadavit)
the lease
car insurance where's he's listed as a driver
licenses, visa cards, and AAA cards with the same info
a seating arrangement card from a wedding we went to
various pictures of both of us, including pictures of me and my mother in an obviously Mayan village in Mexico

Thoughts?

Can't believe I'm back posting specific filing questions after such an absence! While I'm not nearly as OCD about ROC as getting the K1 approval and then the GC, am looking forward to the camraderie of all those filing at the same time!

My question is this: when petitioning for the K1 and the 2 year GC, we lived at one address. We just moved and I did the online change of address for both of us. We will now be filing from the new address, but I didn't save the confirmation # for our address change. How should I handle that on the new ROC application? Should I include a letter specifically explaining that we moved and I completed the AR11 online for both of us but that there's no paper trail of it? Or should I just leave it alone and continue on as if it was processed with no issues?

I last week, I made an appointment through Infopass since (as I knew it would happen), my husband has a job in the UK for a few months. He leaves on November 1 and his green card expires on October 29... Hopefully we'll receive the notification tomorrow (yeah right) and I can bring it with us. If not, we'll just go an ask for the stamp.

I made the Infopass for the same thing and chose "Question about my case". It's no big deal. I was half-expecting to get kicked off InfoPass with a "go to the website for help" warning.

I posted this in another thread, but it can't hurt to put it here too.

My advice is to make the first appointement of the day if possible. You are guaranteed to have nobody in front of you. I went to Boston and there were way more chairs than people who had appointments. I can imagine later in the afternoon there would be quite a wait.

My husband received his I-551 stamp without a problem. The officer said that she didn't hear about a problem with Vermont and their notifications and that they're more up to date than the 800 line.

Our appointment was at 7:00 AM and we were on the road at 7:20. I wasn't one minute late to work (and I live 45 minutes west of Boston).

Hello Everybody,

After I took a break from visajourney for two years (I can't even remember my old username), I am back in the race :D .

I mailed my petition on 09/25/06 and it was received on 09/27/06 at the VSC. So far, they have cashed our check.......I am a little bit nervous, since my card expires on 10/19/06 and I do have a job that I plan on keeping :blush: . Am I allowed to keep working until the extension letter arrives?

I made an infopass appointment at Federal Plaza just to be sure for the 16th. Does anybody know if they will tell me anything, or is this a waste of my time?

I have tried callig the missinfo line, but gave up after 40 minutes. I am a little bit anxious since my 129 F took so long to process at the VSC in 2003/2004 that I am very paranoid. :help:

I also took a 2 year break after my husband got his green card. I sent my paperwork off on August 29. They cashed the check on Sept. 6. I haven't received a notification yet. We called the misinformation line and the contractor put us through to someone live. She couldn't talk to me b/c of privacy so I had to conference my husband in who was working in Spain! She said she was going to send us another NOA, which we also have yet to receive. If nothing arrives by the end of next week, I'm going to have to make an Infopass Appointment since the majority of my husband's work is outside the country, and it will affect our income severely since he makes about 3x what I do.

Is there anyone else who submitted their paperwork around the end of August who has or also hasn't received their receipt?

Congratulations on getting the stamp!!!!
I called the 1800 line agian yesterday and was amazed that my wait time was only 2 minutes. The lady I spoke to was very rude (like always). The first thing she told me was that I should have filed my application earlier :devil: and that I should just wait. Well, I filed my application four weeks before my card expires...........

She also told me that I should make an infopass appointment to get the stamp, but she could not confirm that I would be able to get the stamp.......
Anyway, I made an apppointment for the 19th at 7:45. Hopefully, they will give me the stamp.

Would did you bring to the infopass appointment? I only have my current card, a fedex delivery confirmation and a copy of the cashed check....


I brought our I-751 application and all that goes with it. All she asked for was my husband's green card, to which she clipped off a corner to make it invalid and gave it back to him, and his passport, which she stamped with the I-551. No problems, no worries.

We sent our I-751 application to VSC on August 29. We're among those who haven't received a receipt yet. My husband will be going to the UK to work for 6 weeks. We made an infopass appointment for 7:00 AM today.

There was a parking space directly across from the JFK building thus avoiding the $33.00 parking garage fee. We sat in the car and waited for about a half hour until 6:45 AM when we realized that the meter was Out of Order. I fully expected to get a ticket, but figured it would be less than the price of the garage!

We walked across the street, waited until security opened the door at 7:00 on the dot, went through security, arrived at the proper room. We received our number and waited less than 5 minutes. Went up to the counter, explained why we were there. The immigration officer said that she hadn't heard there was a problem with VSC and she is usually more up to date than the 800 line - apparently not! We got the I-551 stamp in the passport and off we went. I was only 15 minutes late to work, and i live & work about 45 minutes outside Boston.

Things I learned:
  • Even if you have to wake up at 5:00 AM, take the first appointment. There were a lot of waiting chairs there, and can only imagine what the place looks like in the afternoon!
  • Another benefit of the first appointment is that you can find parking on the street.

My husband actually wants me to go home this December to see my family but I'm not even gonna try without waiting for my papers to get done. That is just too risky for me considering all the things that I've been through just to be able to come here. My card exprires on February 23, '07 and I'm filing my petition this month.

Just try to weigh everything... advantages and disadvantages.


There is no reason you can't go. You still are a Permanant Resident even after your card expires. Would you be going for more than two months? Are you worried that you'll be out of the country when you card expires and you won't have the I-551 stamp? My husband arrived back to the country from working overseas a few weeks before it expired, got the stamp and left the country a few days after his card expired, but with the stamp in his passport and will be gone for 6 weeks.

No card yet, but we just did biometrics last week. We had to delay twice since he was out of the country both times. Luckily the third was a charm. He was home and my company shuts down between Christmas & New Year's. I still can't believe they have us go all the way in to Boston for something that took all of 15 minutes and could have been done at your local police station (and how many sets of fingerprints do they need anyway??)

The second time, the incoming immigration officer asked him how his case was going and if it was going slowly as he thinks. It's not a big deal. Nobody asked for the green card since this takes the place. I wouldn't delay any travel on account of not having the card.


My husband is away again, so I can't tell you what it reads, but this is trip #3 since he got the I-551 in October. No worries!

one thing I know...once you send in the petition...you'd better be home...

I filled my 751 a week ago, wich was like 1 month and 10 days before the expiration date...

and I already got one notice, and I'm waiting for more

Just remember that, things with the immigration are very tough...I mean, if you fail to do something
you can get the card denied very easily...

So this is my opinion, I think, this is the final step for me, as well as for your wife...So, I would
avoid anything that could jeppardize the process...

Unless you are sure you can come back to US in time to prepare and send out the 751,
I would suggest you stay here.

I've said this in another thread. You are perfectly fine to travel out of the country after filing your I-751. My husband's 2-year green card was to expire while he was away in the UK, we got an InfoPass appointment, he got the I-551 stamp and he's leaving for his 3rd overseas trip since then. You have every right to travel just as if you had your 10-year green card. In his first re-entry to the US, nothing was said to my husband by the Immigration officer about his pending application. The second time, the officer commented on how long it's taking for the I-751s to be processed and how he empathized. There was never any words about how he shouldn't travel because it wouldn't look good. I can't see any way that travelling overseas would jeopardize your application. If they ask why you left the country, tell them.

I understand this process is scary and could affect your life, but there is no reason to delay your vacation or not work out of fear of retribution.

If you are afraid of an NOA coming in the mail, can't you appoint a family member or a friend to check your mailbox, and if anything comes from USCIS, open it. If it's an appointment for biometrics letter, have them check the box for a future appointment. My husband did this 3 times before there was an appointment when he would be home.

This has been our personal experience, YMMV...

Since getting the stamp, my husband has travelled to the UK, Spain, Greece and the Netherlands... Here's my reply from another thread about the same topic...

I've said this in another thread. You are perfectly fine to travel out of the country after filing your I-751. My husband's 2-year green card was to expire while he was away in the UK, we got an InfoPass appointment, he got the I-551 stamp and he's leaving for his 3rd overseas trip since then. You have every right to travel just as if you had your 10-year green card. In his first re-entry to the US, nothing was said to my husband by the Immigration officer about his pending application. The second time, the officer commented on how long it's taking for the I-751s to be processed and how he empathized. We filed late August, got the NOA after 3 months and we're still waiting for the 10-year green card. Just sit back relax and enjoy the fact that you're in the country with your partner! Nothing to worry about. Carry on with life. Travel if you want. If you are going to travel, just go get your I-551 if you feel like it or bring your NOA with you. (My husband's NOA hadn't arrived in time for him to travel. We went to Boston, got a stamp and off he went).

Hi. My husband has travelled on his conditional green card several times. More often than not, he is hassled when he comes in. He's made to go sit in the interview room, wait 30 minutes or so, and then answer basic questions. They aren't friendly. He answers everything politely, and is then on his way. Twice he missed his connecting flight. :angry:

At what airport is he flying in to? My husband travels very frequently and until the last time, never went to the secondary inspections. Last time, they pulled him aside, he answered very basic questions and then sent him on his way after wishing him a speedy 10-year card. I wonder if some POEs are more cranky than others.

I got my bio-metric appointment for March 29th in Atlanta, GA office.

i thought i could get my one year extension stamp there.

But by research, i fould that these two offices are not same. In some local offices they can be sharing same office.

In Atlanta, GA they are located 15 miles a part.

And for one year extension stamp, you have to take appointmnet through InfoPass online...And you need the one year extension letter from INS.

You don't need the letter if you're travelling or need the stamp but your letter hasn't arrived yet and your greencard is expiring. Does that make sense??

What did your husband have to bring with him to show that he did file his I-751? Did he bring plane tickets? Did he bring a copy of the I-751, a cancelled check?

We brought his expiring green card and his passport along with the application copies and proof of delivery from the USPS. I don't remember them even asking to look at it. We told the USCIS person that he was travelling and needed the stamp and so she stamped it. The NOA came after he had been back and gone and back again! It took about 2 months for the NOA to arrive.
