IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNOA-2 Filers for April

You mentioned you have NOA2 of your I-130, right? If yes, that's the approval. USCIS will forward your case to NVC in 1 to 2 weeks time. You may use the lawyer, if he/she is efficient. Or if you are confident with the NVC shortcut (LingChe) that you can do yourself, you can avoid the lawyer.

NOA2 of I-130 means it is approved and visa# is ready for your beneficiary (you were LPR petitioner).

Loto

Thanks Loto! I really hope this is it!

kim11,

Congratulations

See inline response.

Hi Loto! Thanks for the quick response! I have a lawyer working on my husband's papers, do you have any advise on how I could deal with NVC and lawyer? I checked the Visa Bulletin and it says they're current. Does it mean that a visa is already available for my husband, and that NVC will work on my husband's cae right away?

*I'm getting so excited, but at the same time, I don't want to. I don't know, I guess, I just don't want to jinx it or something*

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNOA-2 Filers for April
Hi guys! I'm new to this thread, and I'm not familiar with the I-130. I filed my husband's petition last year, priority date Dec. 17, 2009. Yesterday I received the Approval Notice (yey!), NOA2???. I also checked the Visa Bulletin, and it says the cut-off date for September 2010 is Jan. 1, 2010, and that they are current. Can someone explain this to me?

I'm also in the process of doing my Naturalization, hoping that after I become a citizen, I could upgrade the petition. But with the approval and cut-off dates, do you think upgrading the petition would still matter?

What should I expect after the approval? I don't really know the steps of the I-130. What happens after this? How long do you think it will take before my husband could get here?

Thanks in advance to those who will reply.. :D Hope to hear from someone soon!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS supporting documents

Update: Your question is regarding Naturalization (N-400) and not the CR-1 Visa. Based on your status it is possible the steps I told you are not correct as I am not sure what documents or proofs you have to submit for the AOS for a Naturalization case.

Wait for others to respond with more specific information regarding an AOS for a Naturalization case.

Loto's right, I need the AOS for the I-130, not the naturalization. I appreciate the response! :P

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS supporting documents
Hope someone can help me.

I'm trying to gather all the supporting documents for the AOS, but I'm really confused about the tax returns. Do I have to request and pay $57 per tax return (Form 4506) to IRS to request copies of my "Federal Income Tax Return", or just photocopies of the returns (the copies of the 1040s I filed before). And the W2 and 1099, do I have to request that from IRS also, or a photocopy of my W2 and 1099 will suffice?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow long before I receive anything from NVC

ah - is some 'language/math' problem.

Here, when I mention 2 weeks, I do mean 14 full days, calendar days.

so break out yer calendar again, mark 8/27 on it, move forward 14 more days, put a big X in the calendar.

That's the day NVC SHOULD have yer stuff. It could vary, but I've never heard of 8/27 to 8/3 being two weeks, ever. Not on any western calendar.

No, no. I meant 8/27 was the day I received the NOA2 FROM the mail, but the notice date ON the NOA2 was 8/20.
kim11FemalePhilippines2010-09-04 13:51:00

wait a full two weeks after the 'noa-2 notice date' - then start calling NVC - see http://www.visajourn...ost__p__3560467 for some steps, when slinging things into NVC based on payment portal status.

Good Luck !

2 weeks today, still NOTHING....... :crying:

I, on the other hand, do not have the case # yet.. I keep calling NVC, but it's "we don't have a record of this case # (CIS), it's either you have entered a wrong case # or we have not received your case files yet", or something, EVERYTIME I CALL! I got the approval letter 8/27.. And I'm getting a little antsy.. I'm scared something happened to my files in transit.. :(

Middle East and North AfricaChange the way I dress?
Do you think it would appear weird or like I'm "trying" to be different if after marriage I started dressing a little bit closer to Ali's Jordanian culture? He hasn't decided about Hijab yet because he just isn't sure if he likes the idea of being that covered although his mom and sisters wear it when they leave the house. However, I am the one who is just naturally modest and in love with some more modest fashions. I feel more comfortable when I don't have the potential for things to pop out or look uncomfortable.

Basically, my question is, would it look like I was playing dress-up, especially because I don't share the coloring, shape, or style as most of the arab and indian models who wear fashions that I'm in love with from magazines?

Has anyone else here in MENA tried changing their dress a bit? how did it go? pics?

i can't wait to go to Amman! But you just scared the ####### out of me. Not about all that hubub about the media stuff and sex trades but do i really have to get a blood test? omg i almost threw up! I am so terrified of blood work. I would rather get 15 shots than one blood test! :D I know it's a small price to pay for being with the hubster but AH! i broke out into a sweat!

Middle East and North AfricaMENA men and style
this thread is hilarious! Ali does things like that too. The bathing in cologne is okay sometimes, but members of my family are allergic to perfume so he's going to have to cut down. It's all about the name brands. I am the complete opposite and shop like I can't afford anything. I don't mind hitting up thrift stores and markdown chains because you wash it anyway! I have an infamous pair of jeans from kohl's that i got for 0.67cents on markdown! :)

Ali is Mr. button down, belt (with shiny buckle of course), dress shoes (that look like gondolas for his feet), and the meticulous facial hair is always in check. He even threads his cheeks for stray beard hairs. I was a bit surprised by that one. If he can learn to do eyebrows I'll be happy!

He is never without his Adidas flipflops either in the house. I like the way he dresses and shops as well, he even let me talk him into a pink and a lavender sweater! lol.

He's also one of the most masculine guys I've ever met though so it's a strange combo. when i met him he had a suitcase from three years prior full of really hideous sweaters from home, we had to throw them all out because they were so musty bleck! Glad he got out of his striped Bill Cosby phase lol.

However, unlike many of the girls on this thread, my fiance cannot pick out clothes for me. I cannot trust him to because he will buy the skankiest, most revealing clothes on the racks, thinking it's "adorable." No. lol. First of all, he has no understanding of my body shape, secondly, I'm not wearing hot pants and a tube top under any circumstances lol.
-----I will admit that he does jewelry and makeup okay on his own (with the exception of the bronzer that he bough once that would better suit Beyonce than my pasty white skin. )

I love that well-kept boy of mine!

Middle East and North AfricaHow well do you know your MENA S/O?
1. He's sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen?
Vintage superman/superhero cartoons, a movie with Vin Diesel in it, or a soccer match.

2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad?
Not picky, most of the time he makes his own salad out of just cucumbers and oil.

3. What's one food he doesn't like?
He had chinese food a handful of times in England and is convinced they don't make anything worth eating.

4. You go out to eat and have a drink. What does he order?
"Bepsi" lol and a half pounder with cheese. Yes, HALF pounder. It's a heart attack on a bun.

5. Where did he go to high school?
Some place in Amman, totally drawing a blank.

6. What size shoe does he wear?
11

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be?
cologne bottles...just kidding. maybe t-shirts from different places. He has a lot from NYC that his father sends him.

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich?
sounds gross but it's really yummy : A flat bread tortilla with laughing cow cheese spread on the inside and slices of mortadella...that pink meat-product that comes in a tube....i was scared at first but its pretty yummy and bad for you. Also, he used to have me make him 5.....5! hummus sandwiches in the morning for work  how the heck does he eat all that?

9. What would this person eat every day if he could?
Custard or Jello

10. What is his favorite cereal?
Corn Flakes. It's all he ever buys in terms of cereal. That will change here though with our aisles of cereal.

11. What would he never wear?
Anything with a stain or a hole. He actually will sit down and mend it, needle, thread, and all.

12. What is his favorite sports team?
Real Madrid

13. Who did he vote for?
Not eligible to vote

14. Who is his best friend?
From Uni: Faris, Big Moe, Mak, I would like to think I'm his buddy too.

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn't do?
OMG this one is easy: cry all the time when I don't get that he's kidding about something. I never ask him to elaborate if I'm confused, I just burst into tears. He hates that and I can't blame him!

16. What is his heritage?
JORDANIAN and proud of it!

17. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what kind of cake?
im going to have to try pineapple upside down cakejudging from its popularity on this thread! but for now, its a safe bet that if it has frosting, he'll eat it.

18. Did he play sports in high school?
Yes, basketball....almost tried out for the national team.

19. What could he spend hours doing?
playing Fifa, doing math (calculates CONSTANTLY),sleeping, eating, showering

20. What is one unique talent he has?
he is a good cook. reading my mind!

I love my babu and all his quirks!

Middle East and North AfricaThanks to God :)
My future father in law has out of the blue invited me to come stay in Amman for a few weeks while we continue to wait for the visa. I never could have afforded that airfare out of my own pocket. Something in the stars just aligned over the weekend.
First, I looked at my travel bottles in the shower and thought of throwing them away and didnt. Glad i didn't because I need them now.
Then, I went out and bought my fiance's niece and nephews a present that I wanted to send to them.
Then, the other day, my little brother took something from my room as a joke and hid it. When I asked for it back he couldn't remember where it was. I looked for days for it and couldn't find it.
Yesterday, I get a call from his father inviting me to Jordan tomorrow!
I was reading Q'uran when he called and had been re-reading it for the previous few days just on a whim. I get home and I'm sooooo excited and I go to grab my suitcase out of my closet and behind my suitcase is the stuffed animal my little brother had hidden!
It's like God was just putting things in order for me!
I'm so happy and I know if keep reading it and really trying my best to understand it, these little happy surprises will continue. So happy!!!

Middle East and North AfricaThe "who'se got a Jordanian SO" thread
Shout out to all the americans waiting for their habibis/habibtis! :)

Fiance, Ali, is from Amman (born in Irbid) and raised for a while in Virginia and Alabama. I have lived all my life in Rhode Island.

Met in 2008 through Skype (in no way am i endorsing 18 year olds going abroad alone to meet someone they met online---even though that's exactly what my 18 year old self did!)

Fell in love instantly! Spent my xmas break 08-09 in England with him while he was at school. May of 09, flew back to England for the third time and stayed 6 months instead of 3 weeks!! haha

Didn't see him from Sept 09-November2010 until his dad offered me a free ticket to Jordan!! I met his family and friends and country and could not be more sure that I made a good decision with this one!

<3 who here is trying to get a good grasp of Arabic?

Middle East and North AfricaMENA Men Being "Men"
 I absolutely agree with some of the posters who are saying that we shouldn't assume that there aren't men here in america who fit this profile and would be might desirable.

However, I also have to say that even back to my teen years, I didn't know I had a type, but I had imagined what a husband would be like, and I kept it to myself to not show my extremely women-are-empowered family that I had some ideals for being less than in charge.

I don't have rose-colored glasses on by far. We fight, I annoy him, he annoys me. We all do things that bug each other and we make mistakes. the most important thing is that that is not the dominant feature of our relationship.

I love the manly, take care of business, i'll fix that, i'll carry that guy that he is. Not that you have to go abroad for that, but thta's just how it worked out. I will also add, he surprised me when we first started dating, I woke up from a nap to see him with a needle and thread sewing his jacket lining. I said, "you know how to sew?" and he said, "um, of course I do, my grandfather taught me when I was little."
pure class. lol.

let's keep it light-hearted and not judgmental gals. this is a community, not a war-zone!

And, at the risk of being screamed at or accused of being angry & bitter, how many of the above posters have your manly men actually living with you? (Betsy - I'm aware yours is. Not sure of the others.)

we've lived together for six months. i was also refreshed when i finally met his family while he moved back home to wait for the visa that he is EXACTLY the same person at home that he is with me. I never expected that.

Middle East and North AfricaMENA Men Being "Men"
you put it into words very nicely. I feel the same way. I'm all about female independence and gender equality, but i've never wanted to be in charge of a relationship. I like having someone to rely on and to support me emotionally. He is very manly but sensitive at the same time. I was attracted to his sense of morals, his idea of what a man should be (very old fashioned) and his sense of what the husband's role is. He's certainly not a sit at home bum. He may groan at the idea of doing the dishes because no man in his family has ever done that in his presence, but he would never ever let me do something like carry heavy things to the fourth floor apartment. that's a man's work and i shouldn't be troubled. I don't mind! he's the sweetest most affectionate person I've met.

kudos Mena men, the mom's over there make real men :)

Middle East and North AfricaSafety and tips for Jordan
The people there are sooooo friendly towards AMericans, do not worry about that. As far as the allegations of prostitution, I wouldn't worry, it was a fluke and it turns out that we were only being harassed because we had driven into an unmarked restricted zone nearby a diplomat's residence.

I can't give any hotel advice because I stayed at his family's home. If you are polite and friendly, 99.9% of people won't give you an issue. It will probably be evident that you are american but it's not like you will be the only one in Jordan. Downtown Amman has many cultures and tourists. I would say if your fiance has not had any significant issues living there as a Filipina, you probably won't. It is difficult, as far as I have seen, for Filipino people and some Asians to gain respect in the Middle East.

I would say just have fun because you cannot plan your trip around whether there might be a security issue, just be willing to submit to any random highway stops by police and just keep your eyes open.

I'm so jealous btw, i am dying to go back. would go right now if i could!

Middle East and North AfricaSafety and tips for Jordan
I must say that I was taken aback by the driving and would not venture onto Amman roundabouts unless you are from a congested city or have driven abroad before. They make up lanes and weave between vehicles too much! However, Amman and Jordan as a whole is breathtaking. Be sure to observe customs in taxis if you are with your fiance. For example, she should not sit up front with the driver.
My fiance kept advising me to not let on that I didn't know arabic when entering shops because you can get duped into paying high prices. I would say if you are going to Petra from Amman it's expensive to either rent a car or a taxi but I would say if you don't know where you are going, take a cab. It is nestled into the hillside

Going to petra, this is important YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ID!!! You pay (unfortunately) about 50JD for admission for not being a citizen of Jordan, while Jordanians pay under 3.00. I got in cheap because my father in law told them I was his son's wife.

Just be travel smart, do not (as much as it breaks your heart) give money carelessly to children on the street. When you turn your back they will be on their iphones calling whoever has them dangerously alone on the streets.

Other than that, it is an extremely safe and friendly environment and you should have no trouble finding help from people on the street. Be respectful.

The only person I did not trust was a fluke, we were treated very badly by a guard who didn't believe me that i wasn't a prostitute from Syria or something. I don't really understand what it was about but my Jordanian fiance and I were held at gunpoint until the guard's boss told him to let us go. Even my social security card and passport didn't convince him i was american. I can almost guarantee you will never face that though. it was not his right to do that and he was reprimanded for it.

be confident, calm, and smart and Jordan will do the rest! have fun.

as far as not having a mena fetish, i was extremely naive the first time I met Ali. He asked me to guess his ethnicity (after even knowing his name) I guessed Canadian. WOW IDIOT. He won't let me forget it.

at first i just wanted to be friends, so no, i don't have a MENA fetish and wasn't hunting him :P
in fact, all through high school and until I met him, I was convinced if I married abroad it was going to be a Chinese man. idky that's who I always gravitated towards. I never even considered someone from MENA because it's almost a social faux pas in America (LAME!)

now that im with habubu i can't imagine not marrying a man from MENA. dang, sensitivity and manliness? Sold!

Middle East and North AfricaMarried to a MENA Man
Oh my goodness yes, at least its typical for my hubby. he likes to visit his mom some nights til 12 or 1, she is temporarily living in the same complex as us. I have work in the mornings so i go to bed at around 11. (sometimes i get a bit cranky about it but at the same time, it's his mother and little brother, nothing to worry about) He does have at least two MENA male friends (one married, one not---i mention this because I haven't met the single one yet bcs it isn't proper yada yada doesn't want to show his wife around yada yada ;) ) He occasionally (used to be more often but he cooled down) likes to go out with one of them or go to his job and sit with the other guy on shift and chat because he can at least speak arabic.

If it isn't a point of contention between the two of you, i don't see the harm, especially if he is coming home closer to 8, i'm dealing with like 12am but the way i see it, i took him away from his circle of really close friends in Jordan to move here and he can't start his career yet and he's a bit bored out of his mind!

So to answer your question, they are very social people and we can both be thankful that they aren't clubbing and drinking and groping haha. Also, i like my "me time" :)

I feel so stupid but... The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit the following original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity). In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents. Does this mean we have to send duplicates? The first and second statement sound redundant to me tongue.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHELP!!! I want to know how long the process of spousal visa...I am from Philippines
For the entire process to be completed? Expect 10-12 months. That is including the interview, medical, and all forms to be sent and processed by USCIS and NVC. Check out the different K3 forums and you should get a fairly accurate estimate as to what to expect for a timeframe. I wish you luck and pray you have patience for this loonng process. smile.gif good.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC now requiring photocopies as well? DS-230

This is what I see on the Manila site:

Applicants must submit application documents to NVC to be documentarily qualified for the visa interview. Unless all requirements are submitted, the Embassy cannot process a visa application to completion. Be mindful of the expiration dates of the required documents, and bring updated ones to the interview if necessary.

I think maybe they are talking about 2 different things, perhaps Direct Consular Filing vs NVC processing?

- I'm not saying you shouldn't, I'm just thinking that for some people the added expense of getting more originals, when not required, might be a waste of money.

Is documentarily an actual word? blink.gif

Did anyone else notice this?

Under Document Requirements it says:
In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

But under Getting the applicant's documents back, it says:

Note: Only one original or certified copy of each document must be submitted with the visa application. huh.gif

Yeah amberlynn,

That's was the second reason I was scratching my head tongue.gif

Alright, silly and redunant as it seems, I will follow instructions per NVC. I will have an original AND photocopy of each document requested sent to them with the other info..(save for the passport) can't send the original there wink.gif

Do we have to Photocopy and duplicate the DS230 forms as well? Or just the supporting documents?

Your Welcome DJturbo.. good.gif

No Roserick,

Per the website, you need only send photo copies of the supporting documents. The original DS-230 is fine. Although if you're an organizational freak like me you might make a copy of it just in case good.gif
