K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswaiting and getting Packet 3 from consulate
Ok, thanks for all the extremely helpful information.

As I mentioned, I did receive the letter from NVC and I called them and they said they sent the petition on to SD on June 4th. So there IS no packet 3. Wow, then my fiancee needs to get moving on getting stuff for interview.

But the two big ones are medical, in this case for her and her daughter; and the police reports.

You mention if we have seen that we got an appointment date posted but NOT received Packet 4 to wait until 2 weeks before the appointment date and "call the embassy and schedule a day to pick it up before your interview." And you mention the need for the Packet 4 letter to get the medical.

This seems extrememly difficult for a time schedule: if we wait until 2 weeks to try to contact the embassy to get Packet 4 it will be impossible to receive the packet by Inposdom and have time to go for medical and get medical results available (all in less than 2 weeks). Plus she has to get medical for her child, also, and that is restricted by certain days AND they have to go back a few days after that for child's TB results--and what if the child has a positive result for some reason??, so more days are needed there. Plus she lives across the country from Santo Domingo. Waiting until last 2 weeks before interview to contact embassy to get packet 4/letter doesn't seem like it will make it possible to be ready for the interview 2 weeks later??

I'm sorry, and two more questions about the police certificate(s): it is unclear to me from everything I have read--is it REQUIRED to also have police certificates translated into English? And I have read different things about the timing of the date of the police certificate(s). Does the police certificate HAVE TO BE dated within 30 days of the interview at the embassy to be valid? Or can the police certificate(s) be gotten right now, maybe 2 or 3 or 4 (?) months ahead of our interview?

Thanks.
Paul

Congrats on your NOA2. The consulate in Santo Domingo only sends Packet 4 (there is no Packet 3).

They will send the Packet 4 soon (with instructions on what to do before the interview). The instructions will be very similar to the Instructions posted on the site.

http://santodomingo....structions.html

After you receive your NOA2 (approving your I-129f petition), you will receive a letter from the NVC telling you that they are processing your case and it will mailed to the appropriate Embassy. During this time your case is examined then repackaged and mailed to the Embassy handling your case.

To get valid information just wait 1-2 weeks and call (toll-free) the Visa Specialist (Department of State) in Washington D.C. Call 202 663 1225. Press Option 1 then Option 0 to speak to a visa specialist. (Do not waste your money calling the Embassy). They will tell you when your case was mailed and when your interview date is.

Also keep checking the Interview list to see when your interview is. Just type in the Case # that was printed on your NVC Notice (SDO2010...)

http://santodomingo....pointments.html

Your packet will be mailed by the mail service in Dominican Republic (Inposdom). Which may take forever. Just keep calling and checking the interview list. So people never receive it, so be proactive. If you have not received anything around 2 weeks before your interview, call the Embassy and schedule a day to pick it up before your interview. The medical cannot be done if you do not receive your appointment letter that comes inside of Packet 4. Also, there is no way to track your case online at this point. So calling and checking the interview list is your best options.

I hope this helps...feel free to post more questions. I wish you guys the best on your journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswaiting and getting Packet 3 from consulate
Hi All,

Thanks for this wonderful site and all the great people.

Ok, NVC sent our I-129F petition to Santo Domingo consulate on June 4th. But my fiancee has not gotten Packet 3 or anything from the consulate.

Is it being sent by Inposdom??? How do we find out if they sent it to her already? Is there a direct consualte phone number (not the Mexico 877-804-5402 number) she or I can call in Santo Domingo to get status update on our case number?? I know there is a link to look up consulate appointments/interview date by case number, but is there a different link that we can use to look at the progress/get info of our case by submitting the case number?? Will she have to go in person to consulate in Santo Domingo to get packet 3???

Thanks.
Paul

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGOT OUR CITA DATE
We got our cita date, Sept 30th. I called State Dept. this morning and they told me "You have an interview Sept 30." I am so used to hearing nothing that I was speechless.

Everyone at work wanted to know why I am so happy today.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmet within the last two years

Hi. Just curious about the "expediate request through congressman". How does one go about that? That seemed to really speed things up for you two.

"met in last 2 years" requirement means that the two people intending to apply for a fiance(e) visa have to have been TOGETHER IN PERSON at least ONE TIME in the last 2 years from the date they are petitioning for a visa

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresblack ink or blue ink does it really matter??
As the saying goes, take it from the voice of experience. We filled out the I-129F with whatever was handy, a black or blue pen. Turns out signatures were mixed colors some black some blue.

Upshot was when I sent in the package to USCIS the whole thing came back to me a week later and told me signatures were photocopy not originals (the ones in black) and I had to write a letter saying NO they were originals in black ink. So that cost us about another 12 days in processing and an RFE.

They did accept it when I sent it back with cover letter saying they WERE original black signatures. But it was a 12 day delay in processing our I-129F.

So I learned, use blue ink at least for all signatures, fill out the rest in black is fine, but use BLUE INK for all signatures is my experience.

And for what it's worth we did make it through the interview and approval, and the signatures in black ink on the orginial petition were never questioned again.

Today they said it is under Admin Review , I asked hong long will it take ? The woman repied she does not know ( maybe 1 month , 2months 4 months etc. ) . Tomorrow I will go there to try to get some answers ! Why do they say it is approved , then change their desicion ? K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCeremonial wedding
I'm so glad this question was posted! When I was living in Mexico with my boyfriend, he was dead set on having a ceremony beforehand and no matter how hard I tried to explain that we shouldn't, he still doesn't believe me. He was saving money to paint his mother's house so we could marry.

I think that the hardest part, especially for people from cultures with traditionally tight families, is their knowing that the marriage will take place in a foreign, scary country and not where the whole family imagined that it'd be.

To get around this problem, I'm thinking of "marrying" kitsch with tradition and getting hitched in Nevada after crossing the border into El Paso. Then hopefully we'll be able to save money and have a wedding with both families in Mexico when he's free to travel.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Birth Certificate Question (line 10)
So after reading this thread, I started thinking.

Even if I check off that I'm American through birth, I still have to include my birth certificate in the packet? Not just all pages of my passport? I don't remember seeing that on the VJ K1 guide.

No biggie, just another copy to be made, but if it's not necessary, I won't send it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSmall Detail Freak Out
Thanks so much, kit kat. I'm not usually this neurotic!! Well, maybe that's not completely true. :)

BTW, anyone want to take a gander at my "how we met" statement to let me know if there's anything I can cut?

In October 2000, I (the petitioner) arrived in Edgar’s village, Chichimila, Yucatan, Mexico, to do field work for my bachelor’s degree. We were neighbors for my five months in the village, and I ate and bathed in Edgar’s family’s house daily throughout my stay in Chichimila. I returned to the United States to write my thesis about the village, and from March 2001 to August 2001, we kept in touch via phone calls and emails. In August 2001, I moved to Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico and Edgar later moved from Chichimila to join me in Cancun. We lived together in Cancun from December 2001 to September 2005. From September 2005 to the present time, I visited Edgar in Cancun on three occasions: in December 2005, August 2006, and December 2006, returning to the States in early January. While I have been in the States, from September 2005 until the present, we have communicated via cell phone text messages and phone calls.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSmall Detail Freak Out
My #######-retentiveness is coming through right now!

So the pictures of the boy and I must be not more than thirty days old. We had them taken on January 5 and the VSC won't receive my packet until the 7th of February if I mail it on Monday.

Will this present a problem?

I left Mexico on the 6th, so I can't fudge it that way, since my boarding pass is also going to be submitted as proof of our having met recently.

Should I date his picture after I came back to the States and safely think that they'll assume he Fed-Exed me his picture?

Not sure what to say...on the new form, it says that if the old is received, they'll return it to you with the check uncashed.

Let's hope they don't happen to notice, or they'll cut you a break since it was only released in the last few days of Jan.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother Uptight Question
Question for y'all:

How did you organize your papers? I punched two holes in the top and planned on attaching them with one of those metal fasteners, but it turns out the holes are too far apart. Any alternate suggestions?

And I was going to affix sticky tabs to the bottom with the different types of info so they could be flipped to easily...but then I was thinking that they might not like having a sticky tab on things like the I129F form. Any ideas?

Or does this sound okay?

After wrestling with the fasteners and realizing that the holes were too far apart, I started writing the check. Hadn't noticed that I had given myself a papercut and proceeded to bleed all over the check. Unbelievable.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmployment last five years--I-129F
I'm in the same boat, Agua Fria...I'm just going to do the best I can.

I too have to attach an additional sheet for his employment, as he's had more jobs than lines. For some of them, he was never even on the official pay roll, so for those periods I'm just going to put unemployed.

I whimpered about this elsewhere and was told no biggie...has this ever presented a problem for anyone else?

Actually, don't tell me...it'll just make me worry about something I can't do anything about!

I obviously assume that any agent touching our petition will be so moved by the undated pictures spanning the six year period of our relationship that they'd overlook the lack of primary evidence of our relationship.

I also have a fantasy that the agent interviewing my SO will like the photo album that my SO compiled a few years back (when he was sad that I went back to the States for a few days) and that we've added to over th years. I will be invited into the interview and we will all flip through the pages of our albun, Edgar and I reminiscing about when each picture was taken while the agent looks on with a wistful smile, basking in the warm glow of love that transcends manmade boundaries and cultural barriers.

Lucky duckies!

How does one receive email notices? I put my email address on my I129F, but will that ensure I receive emails from them?

My check just clear yesterday...does that mean a NOA1 is not far behind?

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I feel dumb starting a new thread for such s small question.

Shouldn't be an issue then, you'll just have to use your US address and have someone in the States forward you the paperwork, as USCIS doesn't mail abroad. On the forms, it's got places for you to fill in both your current address and your mailing address in the States.

I was going to file from Mexico, and I could have...didn't for other reasons, but it would have been a logistical issue rather than an immigration issue.

I purposely left my NOA1 at my office this weekend so I wouldn't register on the USCIS website. I know myself, and I know how obsessive-compulsive I can be.

I broke down today back at work and registered. Have spent all day hitting refresh like a demonic robot. Or a moronic robot, I'm not sure at this point.

Last Updated on Feb 14, right before I received NOA1. So all day, refresh, refresh, refresh. 2/14; 2/14, 2/14.

I just called up the link again (handily placed in my favorites, of course) and again, refresh. Updated 2/20/07!

I feel like I need an intervention, but obviously I won't find that here on VJ!

Update: now I hit refresh over and over and smile goofily at the screen.

Please help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSC Processing Times
I do understand that what is says on VJ is just an estimate based ONLY on the data that people have entered into their timelines and that there are thousands of other people doing this process who've not eben glanced at VJ.

But I was just curious since a date of August whatever seemed fairly arbitrary, and it's not well-explained on that page of their site.
GabachaYucatecaFemaleMexico2007-02-23 19:29:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSC Processing Times
Let me see if I understand....I can't really remember the date on that page, but let's say that it was August 20, 2006. So if I had a receipt date of August 9, 2006, I could (and should) contact the SC.

Sorry for the followup...my timeline says that the petition could be adjuducated as early as March 19 and that if I don't hear from them after 10 days have passed, then I can contact them. Yes? Sorry to be dense.
GabachaYucatecaFemaleMexico2007-02-23 19:15:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSC Processing Times
So I just checked (again) the Vermont Service Center filing times for various visas, and there seems to be a HUGE discrepancy. A couple of days ago, the site said that they were processing K1s with receipt dates of July 2006 (don't remember the date) and then after an update on 2/20, it now says that they're processing those with receipt dates in August.

What does this mean? At first, I just thought that they hadn't actually updated the page, but seeing a change from July to August and an updated date of February 20, it makes me wonder.

It just makes no sense, especially since people who'd filed in January are reporting NOA2s, and Vermont is supposed to be the fastest.

Am I reading it wrong or missing an important point?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiancee visa... wants to go home
It seems that people are making assumptions about what kind of relationship this is, and I also did the same thing as I started reading.

But then I started thinking about my fiance and I. Yep, we're sure we want to be together and have been for seven years. But he's never been to this country before and I can only imagine the emotional turmoil he'll experience after arriving. And he may very well have a freak out when he gets here. And after two weeks I certainly won't "let" him go back to Mexico. Rather, no matter how much of an emotional freakshow he's being, I'm going to do my damndest to make sure that he's working through these issues and I will be right next to him helping him. Is that controlling?

He'll be financially dependent on me, and I certainly won't buy a plane ticket for him to return after two weeks. What kind of person does that make me?

And if the point arrives when he says, no, really, I want to go back to Mexico, I will try my best to keep him here while we make arrangements to move TOGETHER to Mexico.

So I still have my own preconceptions about this relationship, but who knows how accurate they are?
