Canadamontreal embassy?? taking long?
this sucks, i really didn't expect that. i can't seem to find one interview for montreal. when you say you submitted your packet, is that packet 3 or the first i129?
MichaelANDVelvetNot TellingCanada2010-08-05 22:12:00
Canadamontreal embassy?? taking long?
i have looked at similar timelines to ours and it seems like all the ones that went through vancouver got their interview and approval so quickly, within a month of packet 3. then i look at the ones that are going through montreal and none have received their interview date. is there an abnormal amount of people for montreal or is there some delay?

just curious if anyone else feels the same.

Canadamedical exam expiration?
is there an expiration date on the medical interview? it is seeming that montreal is just slow as hell and we are looking at 5 months till our interview according to others. we had planned on going for her medical on the 1st of september since i am here with her. that would mean it would be about 4 months till the interview. we don't want to have to pay $300 again.
thanks,
michael

Canadafamily problems and visa postponement??? please help!
also, when you login to the system to schedule an interview, do you use the foreign fiancee's passport or the US citizen's?

Canadafamily problems and visa postponement??? please help!
okay i have some serious problems now. my fiancee is having family issues and does not know when she will be able to actually move to the US. we just received the packet 4 with a link to where we can schedule and interview.

considering the montreal embassy has no phone number to talk to someone i am left freaking out here.

is there a way to delay or put our whole visa process on hold until this family thing blows over??

i really don't want to lose everything and the NVC said if we just don't do anything for a month or so then they may just cancel the whole thing and our whole application.

so i am in dire need of help here. can we delay this or is there a way to get a hold of someone to explain things to?

lastly, when you login to the scheduling center it has three different options for what the visa is for.

Permanently Immigrate to the US (Fiance - K1/K2)

Permanently Immigrate to the US (Scheduled by NVC)

Permanently Immigrate to the US (Ready to Schedule)

which one do i choose?

could i choose the first one and it wouldn't schedule just yet?

i am scared to continue and have it schedule the appointment for when we can't attend.

thank you all so much.

Canadachoosing a specific date for the appointment???
First Available Appointment: Tuesday 09 November 2010 08:30 AM

If all of the information above is correct, please click on the "Continue" button to schedule your appointment.

The above is what it says. Does this mean if I click continue it will schedule for Nov 9th or is it just stating that is the earliest?

Has anyone already clicked continue? Can someone tell me what came up next?

Canadachoosing a specific date for the appointment???

is there a way to choose a day, like say in december?

or is it just what they give you?

CanadaChimes and garden outside Sheraton Hotel, Niagara Falls?

Are you taking about the Oakes Garden Theatre? It sure sounds like it. http://www.niagarapa...en-theatre.html

There are actually two fallsview Sheraton's. One is near the top by Clifton Hill, which sits in front of the Oakes Garden Theatre, and another near the edge of the horseshoe falls on Fallsview Ave. The second one is in the middle of a busy area- no garden's or parks are super close. The links above are for the second, bigger Sheraton. If you are talking about the Oakes Garden Theatre, this is the Sheraton you want: http://www.sheratono...cliftonhill.php

As far as the music or bells, I really have no idea. I've spent a lot of time there over the years and don't remember ever hearing it? They do put on events there, like weddings, so that could be a possibility?

YOU FOUND IT!!!! THANK YOU!!! it is the oakes garden theatre!!! now i just have to find some photos or something. THANKS!!!!

CanadaChimes and garden outside Sheraton Hotel, Niagara Falls?
I hope this is the right place to post this but I am trying so hard to find this info but can't seem to even get close.

I need to find out what the courtyard/garden/little park area is right out front of the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It has a big theatre looking courtyard with a small little area with a garden of trees and a small pond. Does anyone know what this is called and if there is a place that has photos of it?

Also, we heard last February at night, around 11 PM, what seemed to be some sort of chimes going off playing a song. I am guess it was coming from some public clock and it probably plays every hour. Does anyone know what the song is that it plays or where to find out what it is?

Thank you!

Canadatravel from toronto pearson airport??
nevermind, i just decided to use airlink for $98. i was hoping for something cheaper. i can't rent a car because if i do it has to be returned to toronto and i am staying in brantford for a month. so i would have to drive to brantford and then drive the car back to toronto to return it and i really don't want to spend the money to keep it for a month. thanks anyways.

Canadafees associated with the K1 Visa??
okay i just read something that says we had to pay our $350 K1 visa fee before making an interview appointment. so as our appointment is only a few days away, dec. 14th i am sorta freaking. it let me schedule the interview months back and it still shows it. we have received nothing saying we had to pay right now.

i remember reading someone saying that you can pay AT the interview, is this correct?

or should i just pay using the phone numbers on the site. it says you can pay on the website but i can't seem to find where, just phone numbers to pay using an automated system.

thank you.

CanadaMontreal didn't give me a waybill number
well i just used the reference number on the canada.usvisa page and it finally showed up in DHL and says it is at the dhl facility which rocks!! so i suggest keep trying to use the reference number to track it at dhl.ca.
MichaelANDVelvetNot TellingCanada2010-12-23 14:32:00
CanadaMontreal didn't give me a waybill number
i just found this on the canada.usvisa website under courier info on the left.

General Process Overview
Upon arrival for the interview, a completed waybill may be provided to each applicant. The waybill will contain their waybill number for tracking their documents, as well as the courier location selected for pickup.
Following the appointment, applicants may check this Web site for the status of the return of the documents and waybill number. Once the documents are ready for pickup, the applicants must bring the waybill number and official identification to the selected courier location to retrieve the documents.
Please click here for detailed instructions on how to retrieve your waybill number and check the status of your shipment. To find the status of your documents you must log in to your account in our system and upon viewing the applicant summary page you will see your waybill number and the status of pickup availability. The document status information only appears once your personal documents have been returned by the Consular Section for shipment to your designated DHL location.
As the time it takes to adjudicate an applicant's case is at the sole discretion of the Consular Section, we cannot provide you any information regarding when your personal documents will be turned over to DHL.
Note: If the appointment has been scheduled at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec City or Halifax a waybill will not be handed out. To retrieve the documents from the selected courier location the applicant will need to provide the waybill number and official identification.

Ahhh! Exactly like what we're experiencing right now. I called CSC and they said we have to wait for 2 weeks before they can make calls and do a follow up. I keep checking DHL--- but they still don't have any record of my visa.

what numbers have you been calling, i can't figure out which ones to call?

well i did what inky said and used the reference number on the canada.usvisa page but DHL said there was no record on the website. our visa was approved on the 14th which was 6 business days ago. when i called DHL they said they need some tracking number that started with S or something.

CanadaMoving to Canada after being a US citizen my whole life??
I am filling out the application for my Canadian passport. I have a few questions.

First, the form asks for a Guarantor which has or had a Canadian passport. I was going to use my Dad as he IS a Canadian citizen but he has never had a passport. He came to the US when he was 2 years old. Will he still work for that?

Also, the form asks for a "Canadian travel document." Well seeing how this is my first Canadian passport I do not have one. I do have my US passport that has stamps from visiting Canada, would that work?

And... Will my US passport work for supporting identity?

THANKS!!

CanadaMoving to Canada after being a US citizen my whole life??
Well thank you, I have downloaded the forms and am filling them out. I play to go get my photos taken and send it all out tomorrow.

My biggest concern is just going across the border. As I live over in Reno, NV and I want to go to Toronto, it's a 2500 mile trip on land. I don't want to get there and have them deny me entry. I know how big of a deal it is going by land if you have a bunch of stuff and it looks like you are moving. I would think having a Canadian Passport would be fine but just want to make sure.
MichaelANDVelvetNot TellingCanada2011-03-30 21:33:00
CanadaMoving to Canada after being a US citizen my whole life??
Ohhh no you got it wrong. I am not an illegal US citizen. I was born in the US. I am a full US citizen with SSN and everything. I was born to a Canadian citizen. My dad was born in Canada and then at the age of 2 moved with his parents to the US and has been here ever since. He has his green card and everything but just never applied for US citizenship. So I had contacted a lawyer and they told me that through some laws that I am a Canadian citizen because of being born to a Canadian citizen. So I applied for my Certificate of Citizenship which I received. So what I am considering is moving to Canada to see how I like it since I should be able to work and what not now that I have proof I am a Canadian citizen.

Also, I will say that I love the US but I have traveled to Canada a lot in the past two years and have become very fond of it.

CanadaMoving to Canada after being a US citizen my whole life??
Hello everyone, long time since I have been on here. Well I found out that through my Dad I am a Canadian Citizen. He was born in Vancouver and has not obtained his US Citizenship yet. Through birth to a Canadian citizen I am one as well. I received my Certificate of Canadian Citizenship a week ago and now I am wondering on the next step to move and work in Canada.

I was thinking about getting my Canadian Passport, is that a good idea?
How do I apply for a SIN? Can I get it while still living in the US?
Going across the border on land with all my stuff, will I get hassled by the border patrol even though I am a Canadian Citizen?
What does this mean for taxes?
Currently I am unemployed and collecting unemployment, how will this affect that?
Do I have to live in Canada for a certain amount of time before I can return to the US to live?

I was just hoping some of you could point me in the right direction for this. I am really considering a move to Ontario in the next month or two and need to know what to expect and what to do. Everyone on here has always been so helpful.

Thank you,
Michael

CanadaThe Vent Part Quatre
i want to vent about how screwed up this whole system is and how ridiculous it is to wait like this. i want to vent about how this takes such a tax on the relationships and how it can even end them. i want to vent about how we received our interview packet one day too late.

i do however want to wish everyone happiness and know that if you make it through this that you should never be apart again. do not get lost in the small trivial bull and just remember the journey it took to just be together. express this to future kids and family because those that make it through this have something special no one in the entire planet will ever feel.

So I went to check my status for our K1 visa and it says initial review and has said that for like 2 weeks. Will it ever be updated or if everything goes smooth will it just be updated when it is approved? What have others experienced? Just curios because I'm so excited to get the updates and getting closer to THE DAY!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresReturning to Canada after entering the US on K1 visa
My boyfriend and I just became engaged on his recent visit to see me for Valentines day. After speaking together about the technicalities of all the paperwork and wait times for our K1 visa, I became concerned about being able to re-enter Canada from the US. My only issue with this is being able to visit my family and friends at some point down the road. So, in short, would anyone happen to know how long I must wait to re-enter Canada AFTER entering the US on a K1 visa?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEngagment ring and bringing across the border...
Hello everyone. We are new to the forums but read through everything else on the site. We are about to jump into this K1 Visa journey but first I had a question.

We want to do things the traditional way and I(Michael) want to get her an engagement ring and still surprise her. She lives in Canada and I live in the states. I want to give her a surprise visit and show her the ring. What are the rules and thoughts on doing this? Is it against anything to bring a ring of that value across the border?

I have been asked previously by customs when visiting her if I have brought any gifts for her and I have not before, but what would this be considered and would it cause a problem at the border?

I understand I have to prove I will not remain in Canada, that is why I would be bringing along all my proof of obligations and also the paperwork for a K1 visa to help customs understand I am going about things the legal way.

Thank you for all the help and expect us both on here frequently as we start the journey.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChanging addresses during K1 process?
We are in the process of the K1 and was curious about something. I plan to stay living in my parents house during the approval of the I-129F and move out roughly a month before the K1 is approved. This way I can save more money when my fiancee gets here and be better off together.

What will need to be done and what will it affect when I change my address?

Thanks,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F Form Specific Questions?
Okay, I am probably just being dumb but I want to make sure EVERYTHING is correct.

My fiancee is coming from Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

On the I-129F form where I would fill out her address is asks for her State or Country but no where does it ask for the Provinces. Should I just put her country down or should I put down Ontario for where it says State?

Do I check the box No for when it asks, "Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name?"(Question #10 Part A)? I am a USA born citizen.

Also, is it really imperative to make sure you use "N/A" or "none" correctly? I am a bit confused on when to use them and where. For example: Where it asks for my(USA Citizen) Alien number(Question 8b Part A), do I put "N/A" or "none"?

My fiancee lives in a house that has been split up into different rooms for rent. The door to her part is the "Side Door". There is no number or anything, should I put this under "Apt. #"?

I am probably being ####### but I really want to make sure we don't run into any problems.
Thanks,
Michael

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter K1 interview, average time till able to move to US>
thanks. well i don't plan on making preparations really, just curious if it would be possible to fly there for her interview and then just leave a few days after. It costs about $600 round trip to fly there and i really want to be there for support during her interview, but i would hate to fly there, pay $600, then fly back later for $300(one way). just looking into ways to save money as moving her across the country is not going to be cheap :).

Hello, I am almost ready to mail out our I-129F. I am so excited. Just a question for the future.

What has been the average time after the interview that you are able to move to the US?

I ask because when it comes time for that, I would like to attend the interview with her and hoping everything goes right. I would fly there then we would just drive to her new home in the US. this way I don't have to fly up twice.
Thanks
