United KingdomPeople between NOA2 and Interview ~2009~

CR-1 interview on Tuesday, 28th at 0830hrs. Should I get there stupid early? Also, anyone know a cheap way to get train tickets, I'm looking at 60 quid return from Colchester!

we couldn't find any cheaper than that last year unless you have a young persons rail card and it takes a certain percent off, but you have to get your tickets on the day so no being able to save by booking online or anything unsure.gif and you'd have to leave before 9am so no cheap day return option either, we left from braintree and got charged about 60 for both of us to go before 9am

as for being there early, we got there for our 8.30 app at around 7.50 fiddled around a bit and joined the queue around 8.15, and we were second on the non-immigrant visa list thing that looks like you've walked into an up-market Argos LOL, they say no more than 30mins before your app to be there but that early the line wasn't that long, nor was it at whatever time we got out of the embassy either

You know, it is laughable that they want to check your bits, but sadly, it is a sign of the times with all the trans-gender ops these days, so we all have to be checked just to make sure we're not duping some poor, unsuspecting US citizen biggrin.gif So that part I understand, it was having to sit for 20 minutes in a gown half naked underneath that barely stayed together in a waiting room full of men that made me uncomfortable. I should have been allowed to put my clothes back on after the x-ray, it wouldn't have taken a minute to whip my bra off in the Dr's room, but the radiographer told me I should not get dressed. My advice to women is take a coat and put that on over the top of the gown, I only had my cardie with me that didn't do up!!

I had exactly the same thing, told that I would be called in within minutes so not to get dressed just go to the smaller waiting room with a couple that seemed to not be exactly happy. left there for a good half hour and when I asked if I could go to the bathroom and put my top back on or at least someone go get my jacket from my brother who'd come with me that day, I got told no but my brother could come in there with me. Love my brother but no, not exactly comfortable sitting there in just that thin robe and my skirt with the grumpy twosome opposite me, don't think having my extreemly quiet brother in there would have helped at all, whipped my ipod out and tried to block out everything around me until I got called in to see the Dr. somehow it's ok to leave a young woman in a waiting room in next to nothing where you're out of sight but not ok to let me go get my jacket.

I spent the better part of the last few years studying and training to be a nurse (training on hold atm), best way to make a patient/client at ease... give them some privacy and allow them to keep their dignity, technically it goes against ethics and certainly doesn't help to give accurate results during the medical, high pulse, Bp etc. I made sure to comment on it to the doctor (blonde short haired lady who really didn't give a rats #######), anyway if I'd thought of it I would have just asked to go to the loo before being shown to the waiting room and got dressed there and not mentioned wanting to get changed at all.

The unsanitary equipment that I noticed was on the sharps trolley, the trolley and bowl she used had blood splashes, and she didn't wear gloves or wash her hands ohmy.gif Makes you wonder, they're testing to see what diseases YOU have but god only knows what filth they may be spreading!

I guess mentioning that I was studying nursing at the time made the blonde Dr actually do things properly, although she did argue with me about what year I had surgery on my feet (when I was 16), she convinced herself it was 2000, whereas I had it in 2002 and consented for the surgery myself without my parents signature. I think my surgeon would have had problems letting a 14yr old signing for themselves solely, anyway besides that she used clean sharps etc, but then that was almost a year ago, things sound like they've gotten worse, definitely not better. I mentioned the errors to our interviewer at the Embassy over some dates, not sure if they got corrected not that in their mind it matters as my feet aren't a huge problem.

Make sure you go change your voting to either, voting by mail from overseas or voting by proxy, I set mine up so I get my Dad to vote via mail on my behalf ;)

United KingdomOfficial HPV Vaccine/New Police Certicate Thread

Ok.. I think i'm being really dumb here..
but..

do you have to get the HPV vaccine BEFORE you go to the medical..
or can you have it whilst there?

you could do either or.. you can wait until you're here in the states. At the medical they will give you the option to have it there (the first of the three shots) or to have it later (before your AOS interview). I decided to wait as it's covered by hubby's insurance from work, with just a 20$ co-pay instead of the £120 odd they wanted at the medical. I seem to remember that the nurse noted something on the forms saying needed for AOS but K1 clear/passed something like that.

And technically you only have to have started the course of vaccinations before your AOS interview, I've heard of others that only had the first shot and didn't continue and didn't have any trouble. We figured as it was covered by our insurance here to go ahead and finish the course, no sense starting something just for the benefit of the USCIS/Embassy and not get the benefits of the vaccination too

United KingdomUpcoming PM elections...
I saw part of it on the news on BBC America, I thought the opening looked pretty pants, a bit too much like the weakest link looking set

From what I gathered after reading a bit of a summary of the debate was labor and tory's going at eachother and lib dems getting a lot of opportunities to chime in with their standpoint whilst the other two argued amongst themselves. I've instructed my Dad on who to vote for with my proxy vote and if he votes Labour that I'll disown him

Btw, does anyone know how we're able to vote from America?

there's some useful info here, I applied for voting by proxy and listed my Dad as my proxy and sent it off to Braintree. about a week later he'd been sent forms to sign (and I had to co-sign) to agree. Although I think Braintree Council messed up and sent voting by mail stuff to him back in sept and as we were there visiting anyway I signed the postal voting forms just in case the polling card never turns up come voting week.
