Thankyou! I really do love this site, and the input right away is so wonderful!

I have a simple case, and I think I'm going to start searching for some cheap tickets to visit my other half!
I need boarding passes and new stamps in my passport.....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyers?
Hey everyone...
I'm in a situation where stress, anxiety and procrastination have met together and immobilized my progress of getting (applying for) a K1 Visa...
I have done hundreds of hours of research...
I feel fairly confident in my ability to cross my t's and dot my i's....
a lawyer wants to charge me a flat fee of $750...
I also want to take a trip to see my baby in Nottingham... which would cost about that much...
What should I do?
Is a lawyer necessary?
What were your experiences? With or without a lawyer?

Hi all vj members,
Very new to this site so all help and comments are most appreciative. Let me first say that finding this site was a pure blessing now trying to figure out and using it will be challenging. Anyways, Kaori and I have submitted our K-1 fiance petition to the CSC on May 11, 2009. Following the tracking info they received the package on May 14. We are being patience but i would assume that I would receive a notice by now. Should we wait a little longer or make a call and see whats going on? From reading some previous posts it would seem that something would have arrived now but maybe their busy or just taking their time? Any advice?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about timelines
This is another question about the timelines. I first filled out my information in my timeline, and it would tell me "Based on your NOA1 date, your approximate adjudication will be between Sep 16th and Oct 23rd" ... or something like that...I was just guessing at that point when I would have my NOA1. Now I have it, and it doesn't give me dates! Anyone know of this issue?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUK unemployed
So, my UK citizen fiance says its a terrible idea to get on Job seekers allowance in order to get a job, because it would make him look bad and get him turned down for the K-1 Visa at the interview. I make enough money to support us both, and he's not going to go on unemployment in the US when he gets here, but should he stay home and not work? He says going on Job Seeker's is the fastest and best way to get a job in England, and its almost impossible for him to find work without being able to go to the job centre. I don't understand this whole thing. Would he really get denied for being on job-seekers?

United KingdomLondon Medical - Knightsbridge Doctors
Riggs went to London for his Medical today.

I'll be writing for him, as he says I type faster...

This morning, I read him all the reviews that have been recent on this forum, about how they hand over their passports, have to sign the back of their passport photos, fill out forms etc. I wish him good luck, and fall asleep (after trying to sleep for an hour or so) I then get a panicked call at 4:30 in the morning from Riggs saying that he didn't bring his passport or get the photos. I was not happy, but jumped out of bed, because he said he needed help finding a photobooth somewhere in London. I had no idea, but told him to look for any shopping center he can find, and I will try to text him information for a place that was close to the street he said he was on. Found Snappy Snaps online, text him the address and phone number, called him back to get straight to voicemail.. He then calls after I've been half asleep for 10 or 15 minutes to say that he got the pictures done in some shop, and is on his way back to the office. I couldn't even get out of bed before he said he was back and had to go. Fell asleep for another hour, then wake up to him calling asking for me to e-mail someone a scan of his passport photo page. Get up, find the jpg on my computer, and e-mail it to the address he said. Fall asleep again and then wake up at a normal hour to him getting home, letting me know that everything else went smooth, he had the male doctor, and everything was fine. He also brought his vaccination records, but there was another one that he needed, and they told him to have his GP fax the proof once its done, and once they receive that, they'll send it on to the embassy!

All in all, he was very frazzled, had no sleep the night before, but somehow made it through with success! He even said that other people showed up for their appointments without passport or photo and were told to reschedule... I asked him what made him so special, and he said it was probably because he looked the receptionist in the face instead of the cleavage, which he said was a common thing with most guys walking in there... I guess it all boils down to Riggs being lucky for being a leg man instead of a chest man luv.gif

United KingdomTransportation help
Thanks, yeah, I've been looking online alot, and cheapest looks around £65.60 round trip, including the £5 something for tube fare. I would like to have him do medical before, just because it would be really nice to know at the interview that he will be getting the visa, you know? Go outside, have a smoke and maybe a drink to celebrate being approved, rather than "approved pending medical results". He's got an issue with anxiety, and I think having the interview and medical separate will make things easier mentally to handle.....

And if you're suffering for a decent cuppa, my husband can make do with Tetley's British Blend. Our Wal-Mart used to carry it but they've stopped; we get it at Kroger's now. We use an extra bag in the pot compared to full-fledged teas we order online or get from back home. So far as tea in the US goes, I've come to believe that if you can find a decent substitute then you are still only halfway home. You need a decent teapot (I imported an authentic Brown Betty) and you need to warm the interior of the pot by swirling and then dumping a bit of the boiled water BEFORE you put the bags in for steeping.

I've been hooked on PG Tips, I buy them at World Market... they have them all over the place, I think...

I'm also trying to figur what kind of oatmeal here would come out like the porridge he is used to eating. I used Quaker Old fashioned which is whole oats and he looked at it and asked what it was so clearly it isnt cut the same.
Most things I make will do just fine but I'd like to be able to make some stuff like home so he doesnt get too home sick.

Look for "Steel Cut Oats"... that's probably what he's talking about. It looks a bit like cut up brown rice. You have to cook it alot longer, but it is really really yummy.

In July I married the love of my life and he just happens to be Scottish. There are a lot of differences between food there and here. I would like to find some good recipes so that I can prepare at least some things the way he is used to having them. Some of it I'm figuring as we go. I think we tend toward sweet here rather than savory. So when I prepare porridge (oatmeal here) I would use two parts water, one part oats and pinch of salt which is fine but then I "ruin it" by adding brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins or banana. So I make his unsweetened. Same with French toast. We end to dust it with powdered sugar and maple syrup not brown sauce. I'm trying to learn though. If you have a great recipe or a link to one and would not mind sharing let me know. Thanks! smile.gif

I'm getting so nervous! The train tickets are booked, he'll have to be on the train at 4:50 AM (8:50 PM the day before, my time) and then he's off! I'm also waiting to hear whether I got a promotion at work today, which would really change everything, as my days would be different, and the second job that I just got wouldn't be able to work around the new schedule, if I get it... All this stuff is up in the air. If I do get the promotion, I would be moving desks and jobs the Day Before the Interview!!! I hate not knowing so much in such a short space of time! If I don't get it, its allright, but I would be working 7 days a week with the two jobs (more money, much less time to spend together when he gets here) and if I do get the promotion, then no second job, but only working 5 days a week (more time, not as much extra money)... either way its good, kinda... I just don't know!! Riggs says "Now you know how I feel"... This sucks! unsure.gif

Hint to those with interviews coming up.... Plan your journey!!! We got the train tickets, but he didn't have time to check out the Embassy during his last visit to London, so he calls me tonight asking me where to go from Kings Cross to get to the Embassy!

(he's got to get on the Central Line and hop off the tube at Marble Arch) But how to get to the central line? I just told him to get on the Picadilly Line, then change to the Central Line at Holborn going toward Oxford Circus and Bond Street... Marble arch being the stop right after Bond Street.... Oh my goodness, I feel like I should be there with him, but instead, I'm his "Phone a Friend" when he's panicked and lost...
That's okay... I'm glad I got tomorrow off work though! I'll need recovery time!

Now that he's off the phone, I see Victoria Line would have been better... That boy needs a map.

I dont know why you guys talk about being "eligible" for a interview, you get a case# from the DOS after your NOA2, then you give your case# to the doctors office in London and book your medical, then send in packet 3 stuff that you download off their site which we can get easy on this site the link for, and then you call the DOS again and see if you have a blinking interview date after that.......it takes about 3 weeks to get a interview usually.....

When DoS tells us that they received the packet, it doesn't mean that we're "eligible" really until probably someone looks at the forms and sees that they're all there and filled out and signed right. That's my best guess. DoS told me they have the medical documents, but no interview yet... still ... ClockWatch2.gif

...so how does that work? Once the P3 is delivered, we call DoS and they say a date that we are "eligible" for an interview...

then what is the next step? do we just keep calling until they give us an actual interview date?

are we able at any time to request a certain date (or certain day of the week, like a Friday for example)??

Yes, so many of us are just waiting for interview date now. I'm tempted to call the extortion line to find out when they will be scheduling interviews.

we call DoS and they say we are eligible for an interview (usually the day they log the packet, as long as you had all the right forms in there) then we can either
1) Keep calling DoS until they tell us that an interview has been scheduled for such and such date, or
2) Wait until packet 4 arrives in the mail (in the UK) telling the beneficiary when their appointment date is.
The only thought I had about requesting certain dates and times are after our interview is already booked, and calling the extortion line to get it changed. As far as I know, you can't choose an interview date before one is assigned. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Jewel, if you do call, make sure to tell us!!!

Just talked with Sara in the Visa DOS whatever place, she said her systems are down, but if they logged that I was eligible for an appointment last week, then I will probably be given an appointment date in the beginning of December. She said they only give appointment dates at the beginning of every month... which sortof coincides with how we seem to see spurts of appointment dates all coming in at once. But she did say it was doubtful that I would get an appointment before Christmas.. cray5ol.gif
