Good luck to those having their interview tomorrow!

Just a random question, does anyone know if there are any restrictions in regards to travelling out of the USA, once the wedding has taken place and I have filled out the paperwork after the wedding. As I was thinking of coming back home (New Zealand - where my family lives) and having a gathering for those family member's that couldnt make it to the wedding. It would be maybe 1 year after the wedding, I dont assume there would be an issue, but wondered if anyone knew the answer unsure.gif

From memory you ahve to apply for Early Parole with AOS. I have to look into the expedited parole due to my son being on the transplant list when I leave..so if a kidney becomes available I want to be on the first flight back to Sydney for him. It is a roll of the dice for that list.

Consulate received our updated I134 yesterday, whew. Made my attorney submit a new one with a letter explaining the typos. So fingers crossed all goes well on tuesday. good.gif

I am glad your attorney fixed his mistake for you smile.gif

I have been compiling our evidence as well..you girls are right, it really does bring a sense of nostalgia. Going over our old chat logs, emails & looking through our photos from our vacation in New Hampshire...makes a girl teary especially at this time of year when all I want to find Christmas morning is him here in my house.

Sorry all...getting a bit teary today, time to go distract myself in my craft room.

Oh phew! lol. That was the same thing I was worried about!!

Omnivore - It hasn't been approved yet, it's still a proposal. I hope it's highly advertised before it's approved... if it IS approved... ugh. i hope not. It's INSANE the price change. It's worse reading other people stuff from years ago and what AOS USED to cost... I can't find the page I had but it was like $200 5 years ago.

$200 would be nice for AOS lol. All up we worked out the process will cost us close to 6K...but it is all worth it in the end...providing I can stop stressing over the fact I am not in control of it all LOL

You found something about the AOS fees changing??? Where?

I haven't found anything..I was merely thinking out loud as I typed & Eric was yapping in my ear about it. He is concerned (as the rest of us are) that is they change the Visa fee that they will change AOS as well...I have read & re read the document a few times & can find no mention of a change in the AOS. Here is hoping that they leave that fee the heck alone. This process is a financial & emotional mine field....without them changing the rules mid process.

This is just outrageous! I am reading the proposal now and I also read the thread here.

I have emailed the link to Eric at work for him to read through...the visa fee doesnt bother me so much as the AOS one does...we were looking at $1600 for my daughter & I....if the cahnges go through we are talking double that *gulp*

As for your medical I would have it done as soon as you get your case number from NVC. When you get your NOA2 notice email I would start calling NVC 3 days after that to see if they have received your case. They will ask for name and date of birth for both of you, and will give you the case number when they have it. The Phone number at NVC is: 603-334-0700. Your case number will start with a SYD then the number. As soon as you have that number get your medical booked and get in to do it. Dont wait for packet 3, as it all moves super fast once at the NVC center.

Thank you so much for letting me know...I have noted the phone number & emailed it to Eric so he can make note of it to call them once we get to that stage. I am just being my usual ####### self trying to be as prepared & organised as I like to be lol.

Yes Natalie, we will be wedding date twins!! Alex said the same thing about the date - he has a very scientific brain, and he said the numbers felt good to him smile.gif

So, without further ado -

My Interview Experience

Flew down to Sydney and back with Virgin Blue, and stayed at the Central Sydney YHA. I would recommend the YHA to everyone, it's in a good location, cheap, but with great amenities. Did not sleep very much at all Monday night, due to nerves/excitement and my epic sunburn. Appointment was for 8am, so I planned to wake up at 6am so I would not be rushed. I bolted awake at 5.30 and decided to just get up, since there was no way I could get back to sleep.

Took my time getting ready, checked out of the YHA, left my bag in their lockers ($6 for pretty much a full day's rental) and walked over to Central station. Got the train to Martin Place at 7am, but it took me a while to find the MLC Center once I was out of the station. I thought I would come out the station and it would be right there, but I guess I took the wrong exit. Anyway, got a juice because I was far too anxious to eat, called Alex to calm me down (what a good fiance he is) and then it was finally 7.30 and we could go up to level 10. Went up, handed over my handbag and sat down in the second row of chairs. We all got called up to the lift, and me being sneaky, let everyone in ahead of me so I could be the first one out when we got to level 59. This is where it got a bit strange.

I was the first out the lift, went right to security, and the guard could not find my name on the list. She double checked my letter and let me in anyways. Got ticket number one, and barely sat down when I was called to the first window. The man made small talk with me, took my prints, and then went to grab my file...which he came back and said he could not find. Cue me having an instant panic attack. He asked me if I was already married, to which I said no, I was pursuing a K1. He checked with me what Alex's full name was, went looking again, and then finally found my file. Have to say it was pretty nice to see our file again! He looked through it, took my passport, receipt and platinum post envelope, and got me to check some things off that I had missed on one of my forms. He said that everything looked good to him, and to enjoy the view and take a seat for the CO interview. And yeah, the view is amazing. Lucky buggers.

It was another five minutes or so before the CO called me forward for my interview. I took the oath and she asked me if I had been to the states, how long was my longest visit, what degree did I get while I was studying in the states, explain my living situation with Alex during the time I was in the states, did my parents like Alex and what kind of wedding were were planning. And as I mentioned earlier, she referred to Alex as my boyfriend a few times, which each time in my response I corrected her as him being my fiance. She did not ask to see my big folder of additional evidence, or my ring, or anything, just asked questions related to the original petition. I think the CO asked me so many questions because she had a woman from another immigrant section with her, maybe doing some training, as she was explaining her thought processes to her as she was typing my answers into her computer. She then made a comment to the woman who was listening in about the I-134 which I found interesting. The CO mentioned that the Affidavit is not even needed, and they do not really look for a certain dollar amount to be reached by the petitioner (meaning, the 125 percent of the poverty level), though she did mention the poverty level was around 17,000. So I guess, when she is adjudicating, she just wants to see that they make more than the poverty level, though not always the 125 percent marker. I don't know if she was just talking about what she looks for, or what Sydney looks for in general. It just piqued my curiosity, since we all are sticklers for that on VJ!

She chatted more to her coworker about some other points of Adjudication, and I was just standing there for a few more minutes, so I asked "What should I tell Alex about the interview when I leave here?" and she said "Oh, you're approved." and handed me the letter saying how I would get my visa. So I thanked her, and got myself downstairs as quick as I could to get my phone to tell Alex! I didn't cry like I thought I would, I just had a massive sense of relief that the hard part was over and the uncertainty was gone. And Alex was just as relieved, and went on facebook while we were talking to let everyone know we were a success. Ah, youth and technology smile.gif

So that was it really. Was in MLC for pretty much an hour, but only spent 20 or so minutes within the consulate. All in all, a quick and easy experience. Spent the rest of the day wandering around Sydney, window shopping and ducking into every Maccas I saw to check my email and get on VJ! Was meant to be back in Brisbane 5.30 tonight, but due to Virgin Blue being a pack of idiots, didn't even get into Brissie until 8.30 :/ Glad to be home though and have a decent sleep.

That is awesome Astrid! Love how Alex updated FB while you were talking...Eric & I were doing that when he left here last...well I was updating so his family could see where he was in transit. I keep reading that I am so glad it went so well for you smile.gif

Thanks for the advice regarding the medical everyone..I am talking to Eric now on web cam (gotta love technology!) and I just read to him what the consensus is...so I will go in & initiate my police check tomorrow, at least that little step is out of the way.

I am going to spend a little more time with my amazing man before we both collapse to sleep (he works 3rd shift)

Best of luck for it all Chris.

A quick question for everyone -- In regards to the medical, I know they are valid for 12 months after being done as well as the police check. As I have to have a medical done for my 12 year old daughter, will it pose any issue for us to look into getting our medicals done sooner rather then later? I am also looking at doing the police check in advance as well so that thing may run a little smoother considering I have to organise my son who has opted to stay behind here with my parents to finish out Year 11 & 12.

From all I have read on this site I dont think it would matter but at the same time I am just wanting to make things a little smoother as there is not just me to worry about in the process.

Has anyone else in the Australian group had children go through the journey with them? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'll write a longer review for the consular review section, but in a nutshell it was all pretty smooth. First one in, first one out, very friendly CO, though she did ask me a fair few questions and kept calling Alex my boyfriend....did not even get asked to show my evidence (darn it, it was so good!) and I should have my visa by Friday!!!

From reading what you girls have compiled it makes me feel better as it is pretty much what I have started gathering together here. We have so many photos from our engagement photo shoot as well as all the photos from when Eric was here in October. We won't see each other now until the process is finished so we are keeping all chat logs, emails, phone calls and copies of package labels we are sending to the other for Christmas.

We file this week..so we are both very excited that we are now embarking on this journey.

Hey TerriandEric! Good to see you found this thread! Everyone here has been a huge help. We are just waiting on our medical results to send in p3. Hopefully will get them this week and we can send it off!
I fly out day after to tomorrow. Really looking forward to some summer weather, its been so rainy here, being Seattle weather as usual.
Anyways, welcome to the group!

Thanks Lyekka smile.gif This thread has helped me to get Eric organised for the compiling of the affidavit of support. I am now in two minds on initiating my police check after the Christmas break or if I should do it before hand. My medical I will wait until P3 in is my hands.

Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

Enjoy your time in the sun...though the heat here on the East Coast has been horrible this last week!

Congrats to all those who recently got approved & Congrats to those who just got married smile.gif

We are just finishing compiling our 129F and Eric is sending it next Monday (US Time), so then the waiting begins. We have sort of guesstimated that my daughter & I will arrive there around May providing it all goes smoothly.

I look forward to sharing out journey with all of you as we go smile.gif

Asia: East and PacificPhone Calls
We are filing the K1 at the end of the month as we are waiting on my final divorce papers...we have started exporting all our calls from Skype, downloading phone bills & highlighting the relevant ones and blacking out the rest. Our chat logs have been printed in advance & as we are going to print off at the end of each week now & add them to the file. The phone calls are going to be harder to prove as I call him more as it is much cheaper for me to call him then the other way around and we use video chats all the time..but msn keeps a log of when the clal starts & when it finishes..I turned on the time stamp feature too to make it easier to see the timing.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affidavit Of Support
Thanks guys -- we had sort of come to that conclusion but just wanted it clarified considering the guides and the government websites don't mention that part of it.

He has more then enough evidence for the rest...so we are good to go smile.gif He is off to the bank on Monday (US Time) to get the process moving for the bank papers.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affidavit Of Support
Hi fellow VJers,

We have run into what could become an issue in regards to the letter from him employer. He works for a company that employs 50,000 people, all HR is based in the Phillipines. So getting a letter is going to prove to be a nightmare as nobody in the office he works in will sign a letter stating he has been there for just on 10 years.

So I guess my question is this: is the letter crucial for the affidavit is there is sufficient evidence to show he has been there for a substantial amount of time?

I have read the guides & I am still as baffled as to what we do from here.

Thank in advance.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK VISA FEE TO INCREASE TO $350 FROM $131

$700 instead of $300? I have no clue where you got those numbers. The only USCIS/DOS expenses for the K1 visa are the petition and the interview fees. The initial K1/I129F petition was $455. The interview fee has been $131, and sometime this year, it will become $350 (though it seems to be consulate dependent between now and the official notice, as the State Department has not officially increased the cost, and from the Brazilian IV consulate has told me, $131 is still valid for my interview date). Even if once it increases by $350, that's a $219 increase, not $400. So even if you were paying $300 between medical and the interview, it'd be $519 instead of $300, not $700.

The reason I said $700 is I was including my daughters visa fee as well as mine -- hence if the increase comes into effect it is in fact $700 for our visa fee!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK VISA FEE TO INCREASE TO $350 FROM $131
So from what I have read the new visa fee we would pay prior to interview is now going to be $350...so now it will costs my fiance & myself $700 as opposed to $300. Talk about a huge price increase!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK VISA FEE TO INCREASE TO $350 FROM $131
I can honestly say I am sitting here thoroughly gob smacked. I have emailed the relevant links to my fiance stateside & we are both about to email to have our input.

The visa fee does not worry us as much as the AOS fees will, especially with my daughter in the cost there too. This is not just a financial process but a very emotional one. We all have to take a back seat in our own future for this process while we wait for someone in an office somewhere to deem us 'approved' and now they are changing the rules mid game...talk about feeling powerless.

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?

Sorry for more moaning, I'm having a seriously bad day. I know it was a topic here or somewhere else in this forum about family members back home not liking the fact that we've moved to the US.

Well (as some of you know) my brother has been a constant source of frustration since the move. The other day I told him about a family crisis that was going on here in the US and he reacted with anger, saying that I never should have come here and he knew/said it was a mistake from the beginning. I emailed him the next day saying that it was totally unfair to say that to me, and that life comes with downsides that we don't expect. I told him that I make decisions carefully and I don't regret moving to the US, even though times are cr@ppy right now. Well he failed to call me on our usual talk day, and after sending him an email to ask if everything was OK, he responded by telling me that he's not speaking to me until I "sort myself out" over here (get a job, apartment, etc) and also told me that I forget about my family back home in the UK. He's of the opinion that because there's only me, him and my dad left in our biological family, I'm selfish for moving away while he's trying so hard to keep us all together (we've had a lot of losses over the past few years). Apparently he also told my dad that my husband could've just as easily moved to the UK and that he doesn't know why I'm struggling so much over here when I could 'easily get a job in retail".

I don't want to end my relationship with my brother, especially because I now have a baby nephew. But I can't handle all of the judgment. He said I misunderstand everything he says because ultimately he's looking out for me, I'm his only sister that he worries about me. And I love him to bits. But he has no idea how hard it was for me and my husband to be together (the visa process) and for me to try and adjust to the US. It's never as simple as 'just getting him a visa' or for me to just 'get a job'.

Is it normal for families to be so ignorant? Do I really have to choose between my relationship with him, and my decision to move to the US? It's now been 15 months.

Gemmie, you are truly not alone in that issue with your brother. My brother has been supportive, my issue has been with both my parents! They were great before I left and initially when I arrived in the USA in April. NOW my father refuses to speak to me, my mother is rude & obnoxious and totally unsupportive.

Nobody understands how difficult it is to leave all you have ever known in your life, your entire family & support network. They think we have made a very selfish choice and no matter how hard or eloquently we try to explain it, they still do not understand and they still pass judgment on us for it.

If someone had said to any one of us 5 years ago that we would travel this route in life I am sure we would have all had that person committed. This choice we have all made to immigrate is not an easy one, it is one that you would only do for love...well that is how I think about it.

In regards to the OP...well let me collect my thoughts..

I have days where I struggle immensely with this choice. I left behind 3 of my 4 children. My 2 oldest children chose to stay in Australia, and my youngest daughter her father refused to allow her to leave. My oldest daughter who is 13 came with me and she has adjusted better then I thought she would. That is not to say we have not had some seriously rough times with her. She has made some wonderful friends and because she is in school I guess the transition for her has been a lot easier. I envy her that...sadly.

I miss so many of the little things...foods, smells, familiar sights, things that are familiar to me. I miss my children more then I can ever explain to anyone including my husband. I miss friends who were my support network for most of my adult life. I am extremely grateful for my life here in the USA...I detest not working, I really want a few friends of my own that I can go out for coffee with, have a drink with, share an insider joke. So many things that I do miss and at times I ache for.

As Vanessa said earlier, going from English speaking country to an English speaking country is not as easy as some would believe. It is harder, rougher and a rocky road to adjust for everyone involved...us as immigrants & for our spouses as they do not know how to give us the comfort we desperately crave.

I guess we can only hope that we will all adjust, and find our own form of happiness here in our new home with the spouses we love dearly.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCSC no longer process I751 !?

When you look for processing times for form I 751. The service center listing just shows Texas or Vermont. The good thing is that Texas I 751 processing time shows 6 months.

I know and I said as much to the woman on the phone to which I was told for the millionth time 'can i put you on hold to verify' I swear I knew more about what the processing times stated on their own website and what centres are doing the processing. :bonk:

I looked today and it still doesn't list CSC for the I751. I called to find out what is going on as we still don't have our ROC updated since they received it September and the woman had no clue as to why it wasn't listed on there. Then proceeded to tell me that the actual time frame is more like 9 months. I pointed out their website says 6 months with National average being 7. She couldn't explain that either. I am beyond frustrated at this stage.:bonk::bonk::bonk:

I called USCIS a few weeks ago in regards to my funny white paged letter, and they said it was in fact approved on the April date...however no card prodeuction had been ordered.  So the lady excalated it to the Service Centre....and I got the text last night saying my card is on it's way.  I logged in to find a tracking number and it will be here MONDAY!!!!  CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!

Hmm...  one month since I have received the approval letter and still no card.

The letter was printed on plain paper, sent from Lincoln, Nebraska but on the bottom of letter shows Chicago office. Date of decision shows 4/10, I received this letter 4/13. Also, no updates on USCIS web page. Last update is the application receipt on 09/17/2012.

.................. so we wait another 30 days sad.png

I am in the same boat......still waiting....andless patiently as each day passes.

My letter at least is on watermark paper and it says "United States of America" on top...it looks official, doesn't seem like a prank. I don't know though, I think they are just late with the card production, I guess we will get it sooner or later. I just hope they will not come back later on saying that they shipped the card and I will have to pay for a replacement. That would really suck.

Now I am starting to worry. Mine is plain white paper..no watermarks!! The only thing that alerted me initially was the USCIS mark on the envelope. The signature is a rubber stamp and it doesnt state our A# it just states a file number and a new classification symbol. I hope this is legit because otherwise this is a very cruel prank!!!

I did sign up, but it still shows 'initial review'. I got a 'Congratulations' letter in the mail about 10 days ago, but no email or text message alerts.

I am in the same boat as you! I logged in today and it still says initial review...no emails or text alerts but I got a 'Congratulations' letter on plain white paper from them....Am i wrong to be a little concerned??

I received an RFE today. They want more joint financial proof.

I am not sure what to do as I sent them everything I had. They suggested joint health insurance and such, but we do not have that as we do not have any health insurance right now. We've both had our cars before we got married and kept our own insurances because it was cheaper for us. Not sure what to send them. I did find a joint renters insurance but that's about it. We also do have a joint credit card (the already have copies of those) but separate checking accounts as we both had them before we got married. Even if we get a joint account now only for immigration they will see that this is a new account.

Any suggestions?

We did submit our phone bill (in his name but both of our phone numbers are listed on there) and also our lease, which has both of our names on there.

Can you not add each other to the existing bank accounts??? We did that initially when we were first married and when I was working we opened a second joint account.

Today is 6.5 months and not a word since Biometrics. My husband had heard that they moved a lot of California's case load to Texas as they were so far behind. I am going out of my mind waiting and not seeing any movement. :bonk::bonk::bonk: Someone want to come with a cattle prod so we can get these people moving on our files

My drivers license is valid until 2014. When I saw the posts about the license expiration I raced upstairs to check mine LOL.
