US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Co-Sponsor
We used Future Son-in-Law for ours... but we ended up not needing a co-sponsor in the end.

What would the "Relationship to Sponsor" be for the co-sponsor if it is my mother?

Daughter in-law to be?

Son's fiancee?

I don't think that I need one, but I am preparing the forms just in case.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Packet 3
As soon as your case had been logged by London, book your medical. You can call the DOS to find out of London has logged your case.

The reason for this is that you medical will likely be at least a week away (you might be lucky and get it soon!) and it takes several days for the Embassy to receive your medical results.

Don't necessarily book it as soon as you get your case number because your want your details to be in London's system.

Hope that's clear?

Once I get the LND number can I book my medical, or should I wait for embassy to receive. I ask because what if I call medical and they offer me next day or few days, and embassy still to process the package.

Yes - as soon as London logs your case, you can submit your packet 3.

Don't wait on the letter to arrive in the post; it takes ages!

I was wondering once the NVC issue me a number, and the consulate get the information, can I send the packet 3 things before they send me packet 3.

Unfortunately, 6 months is a bit old... :-/

They might ask for 2010 returns, since filing date is this Friday.

Beg and plead that they will prepare an updated one for you!

Hi all,

Our sponosor sent us an affidavit of support straight away when we decided to go ahead with the visa process. That was sept 2010. The affidavit is dated 9th Sept 2010. Is this ok that he filled it out that long ago? Will the embassy understand it was a document filled out in advance? We are living in Ireland and our sponosor is in the US so it would take time to have this done and my medical is in 2 weeks!!

"None." for question 10.

See the example form here for the blue part: http://www.visajourn.../Form-I-134.pdf

I am using a co-sponsor, do they need to say anything on the I-134 in question 10.

Also, in the oath or affirmation of sponsorship, after the food stamp act sentence is a blue fill in part on the download, what if anything goes into that blue area?

I don't think it has anything to do w/ the wedding date... ours is August 27, 2011 and we're all done with with everything! Just waiting til June so he can come over!!

There really does seem to be no rhyme or reason to it...unless they take in consideration to when packet 3 was sent it? Or maybe the date of the wedding?

3 - 4 weeks or so... looking at recent posts, etc. it looks more to be 4 weeks right now.

I had my medical March 28th and my interview is on April 26th. They say at the embassy that they issue packet 4 about 3 weeks after your medical...I got it about 10 days after. Hope this helps

A child isn't necessarily proof of a relationship... it show that you guys were 'together', but not that there is something ongoing there...

hello folks!!

me and my boyfriend have a one year old baby girl and Im wondering....do we still need more proof of ongoing relationship????? i know we have to show pictures of us together, but i mean, would this be a strong proof????

what do you guys think????? anyone in the same situation???

thanks in advance!!!

Hopefully you should be all right w/o phone records.. not sure how tough Iran is. :-/

You've got lots of other great evidence!!

(we didn't submit any phone records)

we have zero phone records, and the reason is that we talk up to 8 hours a day, from the minute he gets off work to the minute he goes to bed,and he didnt have the privacy to talk on the phone. we have pictures, hotel receipts, tickets, emails, every thing else except for phone records.
our embassy is pretty professional and easy going as well, would my reasoning ( him not having privacy and all ) be enough to save us if it comes down to the phone records?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMy Dilema
Just throwing my two cents in here...

We went through something similar - our co-sponsor had lost her job right before we were going to send everything off and whilst we had appropriate bank statements, a letter from her employer, pay stubs - everything, really, and at the time - it was true and all that... we simply sought a new co-sponsor where there would be no questions.

My suggestion;
1) co-sponsor or
2) get any job in the mean time... assuming you don't have dependents, etc. I shouldn't think that the nearly $19k income thing is too difficult to meet?

Thanks M+P for the reply and the best wishes! Yeah I'm really hoping to find something soon, but I guess having a co-sponser would be a good back up just in case. Thanks again and good luck to you both on your venture. This site really has a lot of good info and being able to reach out to the other members is awesome.. It's a shame we have to go through all of this just to be with the one's we love, but who said the journey of life was every suppose to be easy? :) Thanks again..

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview date
There are a lot of upcoming holidays? I don't know.. that's the only reasoning I can think. Not sure if the Embassy will celebrate all the upcoming UK bank hols. :-/

We included our wedding date (27th August 2011) in the cover letter - not sure if it did us any good or not, but done, sorted, and now just waiting for him to get on the plane in 2 months!

he did email the embassy and that is the date they gave him, why 1.5 months for an interview but then we sat back almost 7 months watching people way after our date get their NOA2 until we got ours..

That's fine :).... that's only just about a month apart, and they expect it to take time to gather documents, etc. If it was 6 months+, that might be another story. :)

Hi Everyone,

All I can say is thank goodness for VJ, these last minute queries would make me a nervous wreck otherwise. I am just organising the I-134 documents my fiancé sent me. He has signed in March 20th, and my interview is April 26th.....is this going to be an issue as a month has gone by? I have up to date supporting documents, I just am not sure how strict they are on the date and if the I-134 can possibly expire.

Thanks in advance

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPackate 3 question
@Eddyy - which embassy?

Hi guys,

I recieved the packate 3 from the embassy today and inside I got 2 DS 156 forms and a 156k form. They asked me to fill this in and also bring to the interview:

-2 DS 156 forms and one 156k form
-Passport
-Two photos
-birth certificate
-doc that you are free to marry
-police certificate
-intent to marry
-affidavit
-fee of 350$

At the bottom it says once I have all these docs ready I should call a number or send an email to schedule an interview.

I know I have read on VJ that a lot of times you need to send in packate 3 but in the letter I got from the embassy it doesn't say anywhere about sending anything.

I even got a 2 printed copies of DS 156 and a printed copy of the 156k.

So I guess I just need to fill them in, have the medical and call the embassy for an interview?

Anybody had a similar case?

Cheers,

Correct - you can only get the medical after you receive your NOA2. The reason for this is that your NOA2 will have your new case number on that, which is required to book your medical

Thanks for all the responses. Is the medical done only after we receive NOA2? Would I just send a copy of the NOA2 to my fiancee so she can take it to the medical center and get the report?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156K Form
For the UK, evidence of engagement isn't really 'mandatory'. We had ours ready (in case they asked but they didn't). We had a receipt for my engagement ring, and deposits we've put down toward our wedding, our save the dates.

Police certificate = this is what your finance should request this, if he has not already: http://www.acpo.poli...rtificates.aspx He will need it for his medical.

Evidence of financial support: I-134 and supporting documents (eg. your tax transcripts and letter from your employer, OR pay stubs). You, as the USC, need to meet the income requirement...

My fiance is trying to fill out the DS-156K form and there is a list of Documents they want. We are unsure what to do for these.

Police Certificates. What type of Police Certificates?
Evidence of Engagement to Your Finance. What type of evidence? We didn't have an engagement party or formal announcement.
Evidence of Financial Support.

I don't believe they will expedite at this stage... but I could be wrong...

I sent to many documents to London Embassy, I sent all applications for k1, including DS230 Part I and II, in duplicate. I also put in same packet a request to expedite.

Will this be rejected?

They have yet to process my application, and was wondering how long before they put the information received onto their system.

Nich-Nick had a good reply to a post very similar to this recently...; I'm at work so I can't do a detailed search right now ;-)

But - surely you have copies of all of these documents, yes? Bring the copies and try to explain what happened... they should have all your docs in a folder for you, and perhaps you can 'exchange' the original for the copy.

Note: They will keep a COPY of everything you give them. (they asked us to 'see' the original, and then kept the copy)

I'm really worried sick, I thought I would basically have to take nothing in but my passport because we sent them all the stuff they asked for like an official birth certificate (long form) not a copy, now I have nothing left to take! Read accounts of interviews and they ask for stuff like birth cert etc, I don't have it! What am I supposed to do?

I do not have an NVC letter in the post, I just have my email one that I assume is fine to print out and send? I just don't know, can anyone help me, I'm really in a state.

My letter (email) from NVC says this about the documents needed:

CORRESPONDENCE INSTRUCTIONS
C
IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION
Y
IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART II
Y
PASSPORT
Y
BIRTH CERTIFICATE
O
ADOPTION
F
MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
O
MARRIAGE TERMINATION
O
COURT RECORDS
F
FINANCIAL EVIDENCE
Y
CUSTODY PAPERS
F
MILITARY RECORDS
F
GREAT BRITAIN/NORTHERN IRELAND POLICE CERTIFICATE
O
FEE PAYMENT
$
PHOTOGRAPH
Y
PETITIONER MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
F
PETITIONER BIRTH CERTIFICATE
F

I read over this and thought "cool they got everything" but now I'm reading they want you to take stuff and I'm really worried. Can anyone confirm as to whether I'm OK or not?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support questions
If your income is above the level, no need to fill out the other information on assets, etc.

Hi
Looking at the I 134 few questions came up especially on part 7 & 8
my income is well above the requirements but they ask about real estate and personal properties.

1. I own my house. Do I need to provide a copy of the title / transfer deed Does a proof for value can be from county public records? do I need these notarized as true?

2. Same as above about my car, do I need to provide a copy of the title? how do I provide a value of it?

3. 401K, should it be as "stock and bonds" . do I need a copy of the current portfolio value?

4. Question 8, I am paying child support for my two children who lives with their mother in another state, are they considedrs to be "dependent upon my support"?

5. I have no saving account (I prefer putting everything in the 401K and paid for my house and car) does this going to effect anything (my income is well over 3 times the minimum required for 2)

All the rest is taken care of (letter from my employer and the tax transcripts are on the way and I have over 6 moths of original paystabs.

Thanks all

Yes. We had the same thing happen. Never did receive packet 4.

Make sure you have your proof of payment that they emailed to you.

They will have your name on a list. Make sure you tell them you're there for the K1 visa... otherwise, they might try to look on another sheet of paper for you (and not find your name, and have you freak out for no reason)

:)

Good luck and all the best!

I would say for now, just make sure you get all your corresponding documents in line (e.g. tax transcripts). They should have a new form out shortly before or after 31st May, but based on a February NOA1 date, you won't quite be needing it yet. So start with tax transcripts... and then in a few weeks, get your employer letter, etc.

Can you have your US counterpart call the DOS? It's technically cheaper for them to call, and they will disclose the info. Better than the ridiculous per minute charge that the embassy charges....

If you do want to call the visa number, it's 09042 450100 but it's £1.20/min

For London, they won't bother looking at any of that, really. Nice to have just in case.

What they asked us for was:
1) my fiance's birthday certificate (he's the beneficiary) and a copy of it
2) his name change decree (and a copy of it)
3) his miltary sign off letter (and a copy)
4) our I-134 and supporting docs (tax transcripts and letter from my employer)

London's not big on 'evidence'; we brought it all just in case... but we did look a bit silly bit a big document box :)

No - you're not exactly right in that assumption - the Guides lay out the best practices (which includes: "Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy", for example).

**Topic (albeit rather dated) is Interview/Embassy-related and will be more appropriate in our US Embassy/Consulate Discussion forum (rather than K-1 Procedures); moving thread there.

I don't believe they ask how you will pay for your AOS.

But if it's an issue - sure- say you will use savings, or your fiance will pay, or.. however. They're more concerned with knowing that your fiance can support you in general upon your arrival.

thanks for your replies! no my fiance's job does not offer any kind of medical insurance :-( so i will have to get my own until i am authorised to work then hopefully my company will offer a medical plan! my interview has not been scheduled yet, i had my medical last thursday in london so the embassy should get my results tomorrow also i haven't yet sent off the 'i am ready for interview' form as i am waiting to recieve the paperwork back from our co sponsor (which was mailed at the weekend)!

I am just worried they will ask me so how will you pay for the AOS and my medical insurance which i am planning to use my savings. or is this unlikely. will it hurt to bring a current bank statement to interview?

@ameribrit - thanks for the suggestion of that policy... I'm looking into it now, as my other half *finally* arrives this week...

They don't care and will not ask for any financial information from you. Unless you were self sponsoring you funds are not important to them.

As far as medical insurance goes. I took out the inbound immigrant one with Seven Corners, until we were married and I could be put onto my wifes insurance. I'm not sure how they deal with pre-existing medical conditions, but it might be worth looking into.

Good luck

Some countries, you bring the I-134 directly to the interview... that could be an option?

When do I turn in the I134 Form and my supporting documents? I thought with the other Packet 3 information. However, when I look at the OF169 it states:

"Complete and send the enclosed form DS-230 Part I, Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration as well as this document (Form 169) together with a copy of the bio page of your current passport. Obtain the following documents on this checklist that pertain to you. As you obtain each document, check the box before each item. Do NOT send the actual documents to the Consular office except for the Mailing Address Label, as we will have to destroy them. You will not be scheduled for an appointment until you submit these forms."

Also, on the DS230, page 1 #22 and #27. It says to provide current address of Lili's Father and Mother. We we try to type the address we do not have enough space. Can we abreviate here so it fits?

Thank you in advance :)

My other half had a huge file of everything... and for what? They only care 1) that you have the right documents (birth certificate, I-134, name change / divorce decree, etc.) and that 2) you can answer the 1 - 2 questions they might ask you.

They won't even look at your finances, so no need.

But on another note - I banked with HSBC in the UK and I was able to obtain past statements. I actually ordered detailed statements for the past 3 years (when I was applying for a UK visa, I needed those). I had to order them over the phone by calling HSBC.

Your finances are totally irrelevant, so it doesn't really matter. But if you want to bring something then either bring your statements from the past year or just a recent one and one from a year ago to show that you haven't suddenly added a load of money to make it look like you have money... But like I said, it's not relevant.
