US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview appointment London
With regard to pre-payment for the interview...

Can we pay BEFORE it has been scheduled or do we have to wait until we have a date before we can pay?

Thanks,
K

You don't book an interview appointment. You are TOLD when your appointment is and you show up to your allotted time.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionscan copy and send via email...
134 you need the original... I scanned a copy and kept it on file, just in case it was misplaced or lost though...

You will have scanned copies of supporting documentation - always keep hold of your original NOA2 (I sent my fiance a copy, even though it's not req'd in London). You'll need it for AOS.

W2s/1040s will be copies...

Yeah we have the original I-134 and the rest is all scans and emails.

Can someone with a some experience of this confirm?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNeed help on my I-134 >.<
If you don't have US income, you'll need a co-sponsor...

2011 income requirements are here: http://www.uscis.gov...form/i-864p.pdf
Look at that to see if your mum's income qualifies based on her household size... 'not a lot of money' can vary from person to person. If she doens't earn enough, you will need to find someone who does, or ensure she has ample assets, as descirbed in the i-134.

On the I-134 number 7 it asks for my annual income~~ but the problem is i been in Korea for almost 3
years and i dont have a tax return paper for the last 2 years...i dont have a bank account open at the
moment so i dont have any money in the bank..just in cash at home >.<
What am i suppose to do here? Do i have to file another application for my mom? Shes currently in the
U.S. and has been working and has all the stuff they ask for #7
If i do file another application for my mom is there anything special im suppose to do?
and what if my mom doesnt make alot of money? are there things required? what is the minimum amount
of money needed in her bank account? i saw on the example form and they only listed their annual income..
is that all thats needed?
Thanks in advance ^^

If it's just you and him, $35,000 is fine.

I-864 is what you need to fill out.

Hello vj fam,

What is the differene between I-130 and I-864 which one should be filed to NVC for CR1 visa? My husband is earning more or less $35,000 a year, does he reached poverty line? And can you help me guys how to fill it up?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionbest way to present papers at consulate?
We used something like this... http://www.amtmarket...92/details.aspx

Not that exact type - ours was a tad larger. In it, we put plastic folders, divided by category. Within each folder, everything was tagged for each reference. We're super neat people - so blue tags meant like proof of engagement, red tags were something else... etc.

I am using binders- punching holes through some papers and using file pockets for more important docs/originals. I organized all paperwork according to the packets with which it was sent (I-130 packet, I-864, IV packet, etc...). Everything else is in the catch-all binder with tagged dividers. I like the binders 'cause you can easily add/remove things. I decided against the accordion style folder- I was afraid things would start falling out and get out of order.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-129F and I-134 need be filled electronically?
Depending on how long some of your information is (e.g. address), it can be easier to print them off and write small.

For our I-129F, we typed everything into the forms, and printed. We did affix a continuation page, as some of our information was longer than the allotted space.

You either fill them in on the computer and print them, or print them out without filling them in first and then fill in the blanks by hand. It's your choice.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHELP! notarized affidavit of support?
Oh dear :-/ Wish I could help you out more, but I'm not positive that things in Peru work the same as the did in London.

In London, we were able to book his medical with the case number only.

It took three days for his medical results to be transferred to the Embassy after that.

thanks guys, big relief lifted from my chest! Also a bit freaked out bout the police certificates, and the medical exam people are saying they won't do a medical on him without his letter from the consulate with his interview date, but they just gave him his date today and it's for monday! I'm hoping the email that I have from the consulate and his case number will suffice...

Nope, doesn't need to be notarized.

Does the affidavit of support have to be notarized? On the instructions it says no, but on a consulate packet it says yes. I'm freaking out because there is no way I can get a notarized affidavit of support to my fiance before his interview ON MONDAY! we just found out TODAY about his interview date so there is nothing I could have done earlier!

Someone else may be able to jump in here and confirm - but I believe the embassy has the most current information, and THEN it's relayed to the DOS... so perhaps it could take a few days for them to update their system?

Not 100% sure on this one...

Congrats mate hope the interview went welln hopefully you should have your visa in hand anytime.

I just called DOS and they told me that london have not logged it yet but it wws sentt on 15th however when I called the embassy they said they have logged it. Strange now I'm thinking do I send in packet 3 when DOS tell me its logged or take the embassy's word for it lol

Nope, never received our packet four!!!

I called the DOS on 16th March and they told me we had an interview date for the 22nd. SO GLAD I CALLED!

The DOS said it showed that it was scheduled to be mailed on 8th March, but they couldn't confirm if it had indeed been sent (!).

So thankful I called and kept following up!

Thanks for this, i see you have your interview date already and looking at your time line it doesnt say anything about packet 4.

Did you rceive packet 4? isnt this the letter that sends you your interview date?

As long as your case has been logged, you are good to go.

I've read on here about some individuals never receiving their actual hard copy of their packet 3. It doesn't say much - other than to visit the web site link.

I know we received our letter considerably later than it was actually logged.

i just didnt wanna send mine in before receiving packet 3 to find out it doesnt get logged, i suppose i could photocopy everything i send in.

Its just that the guy told me to wait for packet 3 before sending in my documents. I dont know whether sending them in before packet 3 will actually speed up the process or not.

this was the guy from the embassy on that really expensive phone line!!!

We sent ours in shortly after we got our case number and it was logged.

No need to wait for the hard copy of the letter; doesn't say anything magical!

nah i just sent it in as soon as it was logged and i had my lnd number....i also booked and had the medical once it was logged in london....i didnt wait for a packet 3 letter, its just a link to the embassy website with a list of what to send

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical Exam
We needed our new case number in order to book the medical.. case number is given on the NOA2. (I called the DOS and received our case number of the phone...)

Read this about medical exam today...

"As the medical exam results are normally valid for 12 months, you should complete your examination as soon as possible. You do not need to have received your appointment letter in order to attend your medical examination. An immigrant visa will NOT be issued until a U.S. consular officer has reviewed the results of the medical examination for each applicant."

If the medical is valid for 12 months, do we even have to wait for the NOA2 to complete the medical??

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNo Interview letter!!!
Hey there-

My fiance never received his interview letter either for London.... but had no problems on the day.

Make sure you he has his receipt of payment; that was really the only thing they were concerned about. (And make sure he is stating he is there for a K1... they tried to shuffle my other half into wrong lines and tell him wrong information)

So I think we are overreacting a bit, but my fiance still has yet to receive his interview letter, which is March 28. He called the embassy today and they gave him the email code etc, so hoping to hear back and see what can be done. When he asked what would happen if he didn't get it in time, the person on the phone said something about rescheduling the interview!! Is this something we should worry about or if he has not received can he get in anyways?

I don't get why they just can't email you a letter in the first place!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioni-134 questions
See here:
http://www.uscis.gov...form/i-864p.pdf

If it's just you two (no children, etc.), he needs to earn $18,367.

If he doesn't earn this - which it looks like he doesn't - he can use assets to make up the different (but if he has no income, that might be a bit difficult)?

Alternatively, seek a co-sponsor - a friend or family member - who can also fill out the form, in addition to your fiance.

I thought it was, for 2 people (him and myself) earnings of 19k a year or 3 times that in savings/assets? Is there any information anywhere I could look at? I looked at the instructions that go with the form but I didn't find them very helpful.

Thanks

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview Question
We used an accordian style folder, that several others have used, too. Just make sure there is no metal on it ;-)

As for what my fiance did to pass the time - he said it was relatively quick - his appointment was at 8 (arrived way early at 7) but was finished by 9:30. By the time he waited in line, went through security, went to the front desk, waited a bit, etc. it was pretty much over!

Hey everyone.

My interview is next monday :D

The embassy website says: "Large bags, such as backpacks, suitcases or packages are not allowed within the Embassy grounds."

so my question is: what have people used, and what are people using to carry all their paperwork etc... just a folder?

I also have a second question not really anywhere near as important, but just for my own curiosity.

Form iv_019 says: "The office will process your interview as quickly as possible on the day of your visa appointment, but it is a process that will take two to three hours."

And the embassy website says: "Please also do not bring mobile phones or any other electronic devices, such as Blackberries, iPods, PDAs or remote-entry automobile key "fobs" to the interview as they are not allowed within the Embassy. Failure to follow these instructions will result in the cancellation of your appointment."

Alot of people have commented on the long periods of waiting time on the interview day. what have people don and what are people going to do to kill time....?

Josh.

Really?! From when we returned out packet 3, it was less than 20 days for it to be turned around, visa in hand. Plane tickets purchased!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPACKET 4 WAITING TIME WORRIED :(
You will make your August wedding... it's only just March still. You will be fine.

And whoever you spoke with wasn't well-informed. You can pay for your visa well before packet 4 is issued. As long as you have your case number (I see that you do as you did your medical and posted in your packet 3), you can pay.

i just had my medical today and then called the US embassy afterwards to pay my visa fee but they would not let me until i receive packet 4.

I also asked the guy if they have received my packet 3 (which i know they did as it was signed for special delivery on fri) and the guy said nothing has been logged onto the system however there is a 2-4 weeks delay for DS230 to be loaded onto the system.

I then asked him how long it will be till io receive packet 4 and the guy said 'well after the forms have been checked and the DS230 loaded onto the system it could take between 3-6 monts for the visa to process'

PLEASEEEEEEEE TELL ME THIS GUY IS JOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOKING AT EVERY PERSONS TIMELINE, NO ONE HAS TAKEN THAT LONG! TALK ABOUT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND PULSE RACING!

I HAVE A FEELING I WON'T BE MAKING MY WEDDING IN AUGUST AFTER ALL, HIS IS TAKING LONGER THAN THE NOA1 - NOA2!!

You might have more luck with this in the Canadian regional forum.

I can only advise from a UK perspective, and I'm not sure it's the same for you. (UK you don't schedule the interview, they tell you when it is, more or less..)

Hey,

So I called Dos today, asking them if our packet 3 was logged and if packet 4 was sent out from Montreal. The lady on the phone told me it was logged my packet 3, eligible for interview but packet 4 wasn't sent out. Can I still set the interview if packet 3 is logged but 4 not sent out yet?

My advice... have your fiance in the US call the DOS just to follow up. We never received our packet 4 in the post, so could have missed the interview, had we not followed up.

My fiance said the interview was so nerve-wracking... but for nothing, because it was the easiest thing he ever did in his life :-) I'm going to type up his review (he gave me a verbal download of everything at 3:30 this morning ;-) )

Thank you very much for your reply. I will have the documents sent in. I was wondering why it was taking longer to deliver, since they sent it on the 17th and she has not received it on the 22nd....so she will send the documents in, go for her physical, and wait for packet 4 then appointment date! excited, it's almost here! anything to be worried about during the interview? i also found the document by Nich that you were talking about, i am going to go over it shortly.

I phoned the embassy today and they have logged my case but not sent packet 3 and they received my case on 15th March 11. When i spoke to the male i asked him if i could send in my forms prior to receiving my packet 3 and he said this is not advisable as i should wait till i receive my packet 3 because they work case by case. US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice Certificate
You might have more luck posting in one of the Asian regional forums..

I am wondering if anyone knows where to obtain police certificates in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and I'm trying to figure out if there will be a fee? Someone told me they paid someone around $500 for their police certificates and for them to complete their paperwork with translated documents, these people were both Cambodian and their english wasn't the greatest so I'm thinking this fee they paid was for them to complete each document and to help them through the K-1 process. Seems kind of sketchy to me so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has gone through the process in Cambodia. I can do all the paperwork myself and I know how to read instructions in my own language so all I need is the police certificates for now and if we need translations then we'll find a service that does that.

Hi Kristin,

Thanks :) I figure it is just like Nick said, its a catch-all letter. But I will pop another DS-230 in with the DS-2001, I don't suppose it will hurt, or it might. I just don't want to spend £1.20 a minute calling someone... unless I have to.

Bizarre.

We didn't even send in Part II, as it's not relevant to K1 visas.... I'd er, just sent another Part I and perhaps blank part II just to be safe? Quite strange...!

Just had a letter in the post today from the London Embassy.

I sent my Packet 3 in and called the DOS yesterday to confirm they had received it, which they had. The letter today states that I need to fill in and complete DS-230 Part I/II as well as DS-2001.

I sent in a DS-230 Part I completed and signed with Packet 3. Do I need to send in Part II even though it was blank? Or did they not get DS-230 Part I?

Regards
David.

Yep - interview will be scheduled once they have your medical results and your checklist.

So:
Medical now = yep!
Checklist = If you want to try to jump ahead a bit, you can always post your checklist in about a week or so.. that way you'll be sure you have her I-134 in hand for your interview.... assuming the I-134 is right, all complete, w/ supporting documents :-)

From what I had read (and I admit its a lot) I thought once you had your medical they would schedule you the interview... but that depends on the checklist, right?

So, medical now, send in checklist once I have the I-134 in hand and bobs your uncle?

Timewise, you should be absolutely fine with August.

Schedule your medical now. It doesn't have anything to do with your I-134.

For us, once we mailed our packet 3 in (w/ checklist), we had an interview date less than 3 weeks later.... (he had his medical well before we sent in packet 3, as you can see from our timeline)

Mailed Packet 3 in a week or so ago. Got my Police Cert today in the mail. Do I need to check they received Packet 3?

I am waiting on my lovely wife-to-be (The USC) to send me the I134's. Is there any point getting my medical done until I have the 134's in my hand?

At what point do I mail in the check list...? I mailed in the forms before the checklist because I, at that point, wasn't ready as per NickNich's guide.

Slightly freaking out because unfortunately there's a big wedding planned in August and I'm just hoping I make the visa in time.

No, you don't need a notarized copy.

If you are providing transcripts, you do not need the W2s and 1040s - so for 2009, just the transcript is fine.

For 2010, I filed online, too, and signed the printed forms. Wasn't sure and wanted to be safe. You could also just submit 1040s and W2 copies.

I am aware they do not need to be notazrized, although, london embassy says notarized copy. My question was more about whether an e-filed tax return needs signing. None were signed, but we have transcripts up to 2009, but not 2010. The 2010 has a w2 but not signed. The 2007-2009 do not have w2s

I can't comment on Thailand specifically - but I had a similar situation. I was working out of the country from Nov 2007 - Feb 2011. I only moved back to the US in Feb 2011, and took up a job straight away where I meet the income requirements.

I submitted the two pay stubs I'd received by the time of my finace's interview, a letter from my employer, and past taxes - just to show earning even though it was foreign income earned abroad that was excluded from taxes.

I just finished getting everything they asked for, letter from my employer with company letter head, letter from my bank, W-2,s ,pay check stubs and bank statements.Im a bit worried because i spent most of 2008,09 an the majority of 2010 in thailand.I still made over 55 thousand in 2008,But for 2009 had just a small income from my dive company in thailand.I came back home in november of 2010,I started working again in december,I still made 6500 an have the W-2 for 2010 an am still working making about 6500 a month.Do i need to worrie about that,I have 2006,2007,2008 W-2,s witch show me making good money well over the poverty line ,Will i be ok? do i need to show my bank book from thailand as well.

I have herd many different stories,Please let me have your imput.

Also do the really ever go through the trouble of actually contacting your employer or your bank if givin enough proof?I always wondered about that.Well please feel free to drop aline. :help: :help: :help: :help:

I am unsure of exactly they are wanting for a "letter rearfiming my continued support of the k-1 visa/ i129f application." Do I just change the dates to the current date and sign. Or can some one give me an example of what they wrote? Also does the beneficiary need to have an updated one also? true - I just recently ordered tax transcripts and they said they could fax them to a US number (I just don't have a fax machine, so I couldn't go this route).

Alternatively - your finace can email copies of W2s AND 1040s.

Not quite true, They wont Fax to an overseas number, however they will Fax to a US number, I had them faxed to me when removing conditions, got them same day, I had them sent to a FAX modem on a PC, which could easily be converted into jpegs, or a PDF, and then emailed to benificiary overseas, to then be printed out over there.

They were totally fine with my new job... I started my job on 9th February 2011, had a letter from them signed w/ my salary, etc. dated 15th February.. all for an interview that was on 22nd March.

Glad my job worked out ;-)

Well, I quit quoting too soon, let's say that much.
The form asks about life insurance, the value of your home, etc and it seemed like the bulleted info could be provided without addressing some of those areas or writing an "N/A" which sounds like some embassies don't like.

Just making it harder by trying to make it easier. :bonk:

Thanks for clearing up the new job thing, though. I've read elsewhere that they can be doubtful if you're in a new job, but if we'd be okay, then that's one less thing to worry about.
