The nurse at Knightsbridge was lovely about it and complete a letter that we give to our GP explaining exactly what we need and that we don't have to wait until we've had the second shots......



If you do them at your gp they can print it out for you what you have had. Mine done my daugther's (prior to getting our new injections) and took a matter of minutes. But Knightsbridge probably note it somewhere... I guess. I'm sure one of the more knowledgable on here can answer lol


Im trying to find info on the HPV cause someone said i dont have to have the HPV one done, jus the MMR. apperently they rules changed this month. i made a new topic to findout if this is correct and what other people say. will save alot of money if it is right. smile.gif

Iv to have 2 vaccinations ( MMR n HPV ), i decided to have the MMR done here in the uk by my doctor cause i can get it for free on the NHS, but he wont give me the HPV cause he said i wasnt in the age group (im 23). Me and my fiance decided for me to get HPV in the US but now im regretting it and thinking i should of just got the embasy to do it for £120.

If i get the vaccination here by my doctor or a clinic how do i prove iv had them done?? Like when i adjust my status iv to show proof iv had them done.

Just had my medical in Bentinck mansion. Woke up at around 5am to fly over from Belfast to Gatwick, got the express to Victoria then underground to oxford circus. She then asked me to sit on the bed and read the chart with each eye, then the throat (say aaaaaaa) exam and pupil flashy light exam, then blood pressure test and stethoscope action followed by some abdominal checking then pop quick look, male it is. Then she chatted away to me while she found a vein and took the blood, plaster on, good to go. Went out and paid the £190 and the receptionist said the results would be with the embassy shortly and if I had any questions just to give her a call.

My appointment was at 12:50, I went inside at about 12:30 and I was back outside again by 1:20. Receptionists were friendly and told me everything I think I would need to know. The X-Ray guy was chatty and got it done pretty fast. Finally, the doctor was professional and personable. Like most people I'm not a fan of needles, but the Dr just took my mind off it. by asking me questions.

So off I went to walk around London coz my flight didn't leave until 8pm.

:-)


I went to the same place for my medical and mine wasnt so nice. i found the doctor to be unprofessional and rude. I also felt ripped off. good thing i got to see abit of london smile.gif.

From Dec 16th (I think it was!) the HPV is being removed from the list of required immunisations, as the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has reduced it's 'threat' level, for want of a better explanation! lol..

This means that you won't need it for AOS.

Search the forum for the 'Gardasil no more' thread, where there is a link to the memo outlining the change.

Sounds like you got the same doctor as me. She really doesn't seem interested in doing a medical. She just likes to pick up on one thing and ask stupid questions and be annoying about it. She needs to get a job she likes! I noticed that the women that were there had to wear a robe and I was wondering why. I was told to strip to the waist to get the chest x-ray then I put my clothes back on. I was wondering if the women got some kind of extra check when I saw them in robes. The medical is stressful but it is more a case of stressing yourself about nothing. Really all they are checking for is Aids/Hiv, TB or any drug use. The rest of it doesn't matter much to them. They don't have a free health service so you aren't gonna cost them money if you are ill. They just don't want anyone spreading nasty diseases around. So the blood test and x-ray are really the only things that matter and they just go through the motions with the other stuff. £190 for that is a rip off but we have no choice. They don't have any competition.

I was told at the end that my blood test results would come back in 2 days and they would contact me if there was a problem but if not they'd forward it to the embassy so in this case no news is good news.


yeah i noticed that about the women having to stay in the gowns, i saw a few guys and they was jus coming out of the x ray and going back to the other waiting room while i was sent to another as so did another women, then i was called by a doctor. she was a asian lady an i jus thought she could of been more polite. some of her choice of words and the way she said stuff to me could off been more professional.

i think they charge what they do because they know we have to go through this to be with our loved ones n know we are going to pay. It is a rip off , im so glad i didnt pay for the vaccinations their it cost even more.

I think that they don't really say much about the outcome of the medical because they can't say how well you've done until the bloods and xray are back.

Good luck with your medical, everything thing will be fine, i found it was not as bad i as thought, it was a very quick medical. The only thing im now worried about is her making a big deal of my drunk and disordly caution and what the embassy will say seen as she was a doctor and was making a big deal, and they dont tell u about anything to do with your medical at the end. like if everythings fine or not so that kinda makes me wonder on that.

hello

I had my medical yesturday and thought i let everyone know what happened smile.gif.

Woke up at 3.30am to get ready i didnt really feel nervous jus scared i might have left something, but lucky i didnt smile.gif. My dad was driving me down to london so the hole family came too lol. We set off at 6am we got half way down an stopped at a cafe for some breakfast. We arrrived at the underground at 11 am which was in woodside park london, we left the car there and got the underground to Bond street. I had a hour and a half before my appointment so me and my family did some site seeing of london, I hadnt been to london since i was a little girl so it was great, we took the underground to oxford circus, had a quick look round there , then we got the underground back to bond street, from there we went to marylebone lane which took us up to bentinken street, at first we walk straight past the knightsbridge doctors, they is no sign out side so nothing stands out, anyways i got there at 1pm, i was buzzed in and it was the door on the right ( flat 4 ). I went to the reception, i told then who i was , the lady asked me for my passport, questionnaire, vaccination records and photos, i then was asked to wait in the waiting room, about 5 mins i was asked to fill out this questionnaire which was the same as the one i brought with me just set out a little different and i had to sign also to say i agreed on having the blood tests done. I was called at 1.30pm and taken to discuss what vaccination i needed, which was the MMR and and HPV, the lady asked me if i wanted to have them done there or wait, i said i was going to wait,( as the MMR i can get for free on the NHS), so she jus said she sign me off, she then took me to another waiting room which i was in there for about 10 mins then i was called and taken for my chest x rays, i was asked to take off my top and put this gown on, then i was told to stand agaist this metal plate , had my elbow stuck out and and my hands pushing in to my waist ( abit like a chicken lol) then i had to hold this thing in my hands, then he asked me to take in a deep breath and hold, after that i was told to keep the gown on and go back to the waiting room, i was waiting for about 15 mins then a female doctor called me, she asked me about the questiones i answered yes to on my questionnaire, i had answered yes to question 1, 4, 12, 20 so she asked me alittle on Q1 & 4 and then she moved one to Q12 which was about when i was caused for being drunk and disordly in 2004, she wanted me to explain what happened so i did and then she said because i had this incident and it involved alcohol and america so hard up on things to do with alcohol ( which made me now nervous on what the embassy is going to say and do), that i had to have extra 3 blood tests to check that i didnt have a drinking problem ( not that you couldnt tell by just looking at me lol i dont really drink so much any more) which cost me extra £40 for the extra blood test, she then told me the limit for a women drinking is just 1 drink and that it also gose on your height , she then she was asking me how much do i drink a week? how many do i drink when im out? dose my fiance drink and how much? when was the last time i had a drink? she kept going on about how u shouldnt drink alot and telling me not to argue with the police ( which i had not argued ) so i was confused why she was acting like i had done, she was more interested in this caution then anything else, she then asked me my height and told me to weigh my self ( i had to tell her, she didnt get up off her chair to look ), then she told me to lay on the bed, she checked my heart, blood pressure, looked down my throught, shined a light in my eyes, looked down my pants lol and she said yes you are a women thats good lol, then she took the blood samples. that was it over and done with, then i had to go back to the waiting room , then the receptionist called me to pay, she gave me back my passport and vaccination records, she gave me info on the vaccinationes i needed, i asked for a copy of my blood test results, i paid £230 got a receipt and then left.I came out of the knightsbridge doctors at 2.30pm, after that we got something to eat then went more site seeing to few places like leicester square, piccadilly circus, trafalger square then we got the underground back to woodside park to where the car was and set off back home. we got home about 10.30pm , i was so glad to be home my feet was soo sore i could hardly walk lol.

Total cost of the day.

- Petrol £50
- Underground Tickets £5 each that was for the hole day .
- Medical with extra blood test £230
- Food £15

I found the medical to be rushed and its way to much money for what they do, the doctor was ok but she could of been more polite, but the overall day was good smile.gif.

I have my medical this friday. I hope i dont get rude ppl. I feel abit nervous already hopeing theys not going to be any problems ,last thing i want is rude useless ppl. Ppl fed up withthere jobs they should look for a new career that dosent involve the public.

I think iv got everything smile.gif . I keep checking but coz im so anxious they be something iv missed and with traveling from north yorkshire to london which is a 5 hour drive wont be good lol. i will post how my medical gose smile.gif.

Mine was not signed and it did not have the drs name or surgery address on it..it was just a computer print out with my name and patient number and it was free.

Anyways, the appointment was at 9.am and we got to the embassy at about 8.30am. We sat outside and double checked we had everything, and then went to the security post at 8.40am. Haley was with me, and they checked her passport and called through to make sure its OK, then you go into a security building which is like airport security basically. Then we went into the embassy at the side entrance, and got given our number by the lady at the reception. Then you are asked to go upstairs to the left and wait in the waiting area.

Waiting is an understatement. So we were in there by about 8.50am, and didn't see our number called out until over an hour and 45minutes later. We were really nervous at this point, but anyways we went up to the window 14 which is down the hall to the right, and saw a lady there. She seemed really nice, and just made sure we hadn't forgotten anything, luckily we hadn't! She then asked us to pay at the window next to us, which we did and paid $131 (as apparently its cheaper if you pay in dollars). Then back to her at the window, you give her the receipt, and then she hands you your x-rays to keep and a pink form to fill in. The pink form is just your postal details for SMS delivery, so its ready if you get approved. You then go back and take a seat in the waiting area.


At this point I would like you to know that there is a snack bar in the embassy. But it closes at 10am, and doesn't seem to reopen. We had eaten at just before 7am. We then continued to wait until 1.40PM when we were finally called for our interview. Nothing to eat or drink in this time. Thats almost 5 hours since we got to the embassy of basically just waiting. All the N numbers being called will drive you mad!

Anyways, we had a pretty big folder with all the proof in it etc prepared for everything, including a big file of payslips etc to prove our affidavit of support. So yeah, we were finally called at 1.40PM after losing our minds sat there! The nerves soon kicked in though and we went to window 15 to be greeted by a seemingly nice American lady.
Interview went as follows:

  • get to the window
  • she handed back my birth certificate and some other things
  • she asked if we had both been married before, been in any legal trouble in this or any other country
  • then she typed for a while
  • then I had to raise my right hand and swear an oath that i was telling the truth, and then sign a couple of forms to say that also
  • then she asked how we met, and we explained that briefly
  • then she asked how much time we had spent together, which has been 8 visits
  • then she asked how i proposed, and where
  • the she asked about how i had been funding this all. I have actually been unemployed for a couple of years now, and luckily my savings for my cancelled gap year covered that. (this proves that work has no say in this really)
  • she then asked about Haleys work, and her Dads
  • then she asked when we plan on getting married.
  • She then recapped the 90 days thing etc
  • She then said she was happy to tell us we were APPROVED!!! woo

It took LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!!!!
The funny thing was, she asked for NO PROOF. NONE WHAT SO EVER!!!!!! I'm not even forgetting anything here as it was the first thing we said when we walked away. All the posting on here asking what to take as proof, and she didn't ask for anything!
The other thing about it was that we both agreed on: The way she was speaking to us after I swore the oath was as if she knew she was approving us. She was full of joy etc and seemed like she was just asking us just for her enjoyment! It was so nice to hear though.

All you do then is head back to the waiting, area, go to the back of the room where you pay for postage with their service, and leave to get food!

Job done, and one very happy couple!


Lastly, I would like to thanks MARM for all the help, as you really put my mind at rest on some matters!

Yes, give EVERYTHING. You have to have the standard stuff, the ACPO and related court things if you have anything on your record, I mean ANYTHING. The folks at the interview LOVE PAPER...more the merrier. London doesnt care about relationship doc's however, thats alright. I've never heard of those forms you speak of....whatever, clearance info is clearance info...

You MUST need this---regardless if you have anything on you.

"A visa applicant who has resided in the United Kingdom for 6 months or more since the age of 16, is required to obtain a police certificate from the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). This police certificate will serve to advise the U.S. Embassy, London whether or not any criminal conviction is held against him/her.
The police certificate will be sent to the applicant's address provided at the time of application. Please note that the Immigrant Visa Unit considers the police certificate valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, not six months as stated on the certificate."

I know i dont have a Criminal record. I dont have any criminal convictions. I have a police record. i went to the police station and i spoke to someone who gave me a address n told me to write and ask for the details on the caution. so thats what i did. Iv done the DS forms im jus waiting on documents from my fiance and im going to book in for my medical soon .

I rang up the CRB and they said that this caution is on record for life and that anyone that request it thay have to give it.

subject access document has the information of any caution/convictions held on police national computer. i went to my local police station and spoke to a police man , he gave me this address , i had to right a letter requestion this formation , they then sent me a form to fill out and i had to pay £10 . i then sent it bk and few weeks later i recieved the subject acess document

Our package left from the NVC on the first week of September, and we called DoS the first week of November to inquire about our Packet 3.

They stated that it had been prepared to send by the embassy on Sept. 16th, and that we should call the embassy for $16 to inquire what happened if we never received it. (or for 120p/minute within the UK)

We never called, and proceeded to handle the medical and send off the DS forms and checklist today finally.

I would like to know how many others never received their Packet 3, and if not, did you ever receive a Packet 4 ??

While I was sitting at her desk answering questions she told me to read the eye chart. It was half way across the room and was up on the wall at an angle from where I was sitting. She didn't say to cover one eye or to read a certain line. She just said read it. I have good eyesight and read it all down to the last line which I couldn't quite make out. She was writing when I was reading the letters and I doubt she was listening. I could have been saying anything. Having good eyesight isn't a requirement of getting a visa. Don't worry about it. They just go through the motions to try and convince you they are earning the £190! All the US government cares about is the blood test and the chest x-ray. The rest is a waste of time.
