I suppose that it's too late to start using the "internet phone cards" since the interview is only 20 days away.

call the card company and request it, let them know you need it for immigration purposes and you should be ok.

I started using phone cards the first month after we met, but I stopped using them shortly after since I couldn't find one with decent quality. Regardless, I used two different phone cards, and both companies refused to give me any call records w/out a court order. Along the same lines, my cell phone company won't give me a list of incoming call numbers without a court order either.

I mostly use phone cards, but I saved all of them and am going to bring them for evidence along with a letter stating that it is cheaper, more convenient, etc. I can get a 5 dollar card and talk for 7 hrs off it. But I also call her without the cards every once in a while, that way her number shows up on my phone bill. I can't seem to get my missed calls documented (from her) but all of her SMS show up. That plus e-mail, some packages sent both ways, pictures, and the fact that I'll be there should be plenty to get this visa. That and positive thinking!

2600 dollars!!! I just bought a one way ticket for 739$ I also got a free 60 day tourist visa. I've always flown to Thailand on a one way and never been asked about it by the airline, but there have been a few times when immigration asked about my return ticket. I simply told them either that it was cheaper to buy it in Thailand or that I was flying to Singapore in 30 days. Those excuses always seemed to work.

It's quite possible that they won't even ask about my return trip in Chicago or in Bangkok, but I agree with a few other posters that it's better to be safe than sorry on this one. A tourist visa costs $35 from the embassy nearest where I live, so eating a $20 fee to get the $2600 tickets (which I will promptly get refunded once I get to Bangkok) is actually the cheapest and safest option.

It's over tomorrow, but the Thai Consulate has been giving 60 day tourist visa's for free for a while now. It's their way of stimulating the economy.

Is it possible to go to the embassy and ask if they received the documents or is only emailing permitted? I know they received mine on May 23rd due to sending it registered mail but they have chosen to lie that they haven't even though I have the tracking number and know who signed for it. I don't care about whatever stupid reason they have for lying, probably to mask their incompetence, I just want them to acknowledge they have it.

They got our Packet 3 on May 12th. Last week they told us via email we had missing documents email and then POW the interview is scheduled for Thursday. Its a total ####### shoot but you could here something soon. It seems like everyone is getting interviews now.

There is no rhyme or reason in the order people are getting interviews. After all this BS about missing documents and them not sending me a NOA 2, then all of a sudden an interview is scheduled? I wonder what is up their sleeve for the interview?

I think this is quite optimistic. It usually takes 3 days for them to issue the visa, which would put you on Friday, and the embassy is closed on the 3rd for Independence day and also closed on the 6th for a Thai government holiday. Just food for thought.

I arrive the 25th at 3:30 am with one stop in Kiev, Ukraine. I plan to stay 3-4 weeks.

I lived there for a couple years on 30 day tourist visas. The army took over and said no more of that. 90 days consecutive on a tourist visa, and you're out. Once I got married I was issued a non-immigrant O, and was allowed to stay another year. They constantly change the bank/income requirements for marriage visas. Also some Thai consulates ask for the bank/income requirements, some do not. That changes on a regular basis. So there's really no reason to believe whether the above new land requirements will be enforced or not. Not a real good way to live your life not knowing if your land might be yanked in the future at the whim of some bureaucrat. I agree probably never gonna happen, but who wants to live with that possibility in the future.
QUOTE

I did the 30 day tourist visa thing for about 2 years, with the occasional 60 day tourist visa from Singapore thrown in. The best thing about that was when I would come back to Thailand the immigration officer would always ask me "how long you stay this time?" and I would always say "30 days" then they would usually smile then ask "you can speak Thai?" After about 2 years of that I got denied a tourist visa at the embassy in Singapore, they told me they no longer considered me a tourist. I asked why and they said that tourist leave Thailand, I only left to get a new visa. After that I had to get a type "O" non Imm. visa.

So much for all the hard work on the checklist I built and busting my @ss around Bangkok on the last trip to get everything right the first time. I will be disappointed if a mistake was made on our part but I'll be livid if they want additional documents not listed on their own checklist. Besides me being previously married 16 years ago you could not have a more simple vanilla case other than ours. LOL, I thought we were going to be different....... This stoppage of scheduling interviews is odd as well, although it did take me 3 months from case complete at NVC to get the interview. Kinda apples and oranges though since I was IR-1. IR-1 there is no packet 3, so you think it would go quicker. Also for IR-1 NVC schedules the interviews not the embassy.

Maybe, just maybe, due to all the complaints and other ####### that has been going on over there, they are making personel changes, which would DEFINITELY be good news!

I thought that the medical was supposed to be done with P4. When they give you an interview date they also tell you go see the doctor. But you can take care of the medical before hand because it doesn't really matter when it's done as long as it's done before the interview.

?? Does not compute. If she was at the hospital to do her medical, which must be submitted as part of P3, how could she have already submitted P3, had it accepted, and received an interview date?

Otherwise -that's what I recall of the situation for intererview scheduling a few months ago. Aaron - can you remind us of your experience? I vaguely recall Aaron getting his NOA2 right around the time we got ours. He sailed through NVC, got an appointment at the embassy within weeks, had a very brief delay after the interview when they wanted additional Evidence of Relationship docs, got the visa, and has been living happily ever after in Vegas ever since. I freely admit to being GREEN with envy.

Hmm, I must have misunderstood her. Either way though, for whatever reason this woman was at the hospital, she was claiming that it took her 15 days to get an interview date.

As specified in Packet 3

The I-134 Affidavit of Support should include the following:

1) The most recent year's (2008) complete tax return and/or transcript
2) A letter on company stationary stating the employee's status and annual salary
3) A copy of the Petitioner's passport (we sent just the photo and bio pages)

There is no mention of bank account or any other financial disclosure. If you are close to 125% of the poverty line (about $18,000 for a household of two) you may consider disclosing some other assets, otherwise it's unnecessary.

Edit: I would strongly advise against money transfers. It could always be misconstrued, regardless of any honest explanation. Paying for a green card, or something of the like could always be assumed with such evidence. I trust in the other forms of evidence more than this.

I feel the same way about the money transfers, just wanted to check on others thoughts.

I went to the bank (Chase) and asked for an account summery. It had the date the acct. was opened, my current balance and the average amount deposited every month since the acct. was opened.

For the tax papers, I included my W2 and the 1040 return for 2008 only, but I have requested the transcript from the IRS just in case. I would have included 2007 but I didn't pay taxes that year and 2006 was barely anything so no point.

I also had my employer type a letter stating what I did for the company, my approximate gross pay every month, and my status (full time)

Oh and I also include the last 3 months of pay stubs.

My fiancée was just expressing concern about the interview date. She mailed back Packet 3 two weeks ago and wants Packet 4. I told her "All in good time," yet she is thinking about all that needs to be done prior to leaving and subsequent to receiving the visa.

My solution is to accept reality and then do the best I can in any given situation. Beyond that I just let it go, or 'let it be.'

We're in the same boat. We mailed Packet 3 on April 3, they officially record it as "received" at the embassy April 8. Today is April 30. No sign yet of a Packet 4 or interview date.

That makes at least 3 of us here on VJ (you, us, Danny&Chada) that are imminent for interview. (Chada still needs to mail in the P-3...).
However on the usvisa4thai list, Thanti is telling me that there are many (she figures around 20) active cases waiting for an interview date in BKK, many from mid-late March. So far as we can tell, nobody has been given a Packet 4 in several weeks now. Sure, they had Songkran and some street rowdiness, but that's been past now for a few weeks too. Something is backed up in the embassy.........

Nothing really to do but wait, and periodically send an email request. We have been doing that weekly. Thanti was going to send one last night, so we may get a response by Friday. Let's see if anything starts moving there.

Like you, we're having a very difficult time scheduling real life around this. Thanti needs to give proper notice at work before resigning. She works shifts as part of a team and their shift schedule is set a month in advance. They're now setting the June schedule. Once Thanti commits to her hours for June she feels obligated to work through the whole month. That means that even if the blippin embassy schedules her interview for late May or early June, we won't be able to get her on a plane till July at this rate. I shouldn't keep bitchng about it, but I'm getting really pissed off. We were stuck at NVC for close to 2 months, and now the Embassy is just as bad.

For all of our wives/fiancees in this situation, it's very difficult. It's an entire uprooting of their lives - they need to quit jobs, make arrangements for family members left behind, pack, plan for their futures. And they do it with good humor and optimism. Is it so much to ask that we can circle a date on the calendar with some degree of confidence as the likely point of departure? Good grief.

We should be able to mail P3 any day now. Just waiting for the Thai post office to deliver the forms I sent to my girl. Once she has them, she'll sign them and send them to the embassy. Hopefully we get an interview date soon. Her attachment to Thailand is pretty easy to sever, but I want to go over for the interview and I have a lot of things and people that need me here in NYC. It's hard to set up fights for my students if I'm not sure when I'll be in LOS or the states.

Also, as Thanti writes, the police is now charging 200Baht for issuing the certificates. This used to be a free service. 200B is less than a $1, so it's not a financial burden by any means, but just a heads-up for everyone to be aware of.

  1. No need to mail proof of relationship to the embassy w/ packet 3 according to the new checklist. Just bring it to the interview.
  2. According to DS-157k, you need to include proof of engagement w/ packet 3 as well

You mean DS-156k

We were lucky that they didn't ask to see our NOA 2 because I never received it. USCIS said they sent it so I assume that the USPS screwed up. Funny thing is that USCIS wants me to pay 340 bucks for a new one!

It's not consistent. My fiancée was asked to show the letter from the consulate that comes with Packet 3. She had NOA2 but they did not ask for it. When she returned to pick up the police certificate (she still doesn't have it after 2 weeks of waiting), she heard them speaking to another Thai girl, saying that she would need the letter in order to get the certificate.

Others, as Will reports, have been able to get it with just NOA2.

The police told my fiancee to show them a copy of my passport.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. Seems that I was worrying over nothing though. She sent me a SMS this morning saying that she just got packet 3.

How will you know when the consulate has received the petition?
