Russia, Ukraine and Belarusquestions about love and commitment relative to K1 process
QUOTE (mox @ Jun 26 2009, 02:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So you're arguing that it shouldn't be used as a trial period because it clogs up the system, which is not a legal argument. And certainly there's no evidence to support this claim either way (can you cite a percentage of filers who use the system in this manner?), and I could just as well argue that anyone who files clogs up the system, so maybe nobody should file, or maybe we should only limit filing from countries who have a higher likelihood of being approved. smile.gif And of course all K1's are "potentially useless case[es] of paperwork" because the non-USC always has the option of returning to his or her country anyway.

As I said, the intention to use K-1 as a trial dramatically increases the chances of the fiance(e) returning to the home country. While it is within the law, such intentional abuse of K-1 visa prolongs the wait times for other filers whose intentions are more serious. You may demagogize as much as you like that everybody in effect clogs the system, but for those who understand the notion of personal responsibility, the idea I am promoting should be quite clear.

I am absolutely not surprised that you, IIRC having worked in a gov't institution, cannot accept the idea of making responsible choices while using a government program.

Russia, Ukraine and Belarusquestions about love and commitment relative to K1 process
QUOTE (mox @ Jun 25 2009, 11:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
In any case, I say again: who are you or me or any of us to judge how a couple conducts the 90 day period their K1 visa legitimately allows? As long as the law is followed, and they either marry or the non-USC departs before day 91, there is no problem. I see the argument against using 90 days as a trial period as the same argument against sex before marriage. If two consenting adults don't mind, why is it anyone else's business?

Because two consenting adults do not increase the backlog of cases at the USCIS with their application to have sex. K-1 filers, however, do and if they use their K-1 as a trial period they burden the government agency, paid for by our tax dollars, with a potentially useless case of paperwork. Sure, every K-1 has a probability of failure but for "trial" filers, this probability increases several times. It's not only stupid but irresponsible toward the taxpayer, to say nothing of the earnest filers who have to wait in line.

Let me just say that the 90 days is NOT a trial period and was not designed as such. If you have doubts about this relationship, TAKE MORE TIME to get to know each other before jumping into this.

Russia, Ukraine and Belarusname change - passport change?
QUOTE (Chuckles @ Jul 2 2008, 01:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We just bought tickets in my wife's maiden name that matched her Russian passport. She brought an official copy of our marriage certificate if there were any problems stateside, but there was no problems.

So there is no problem at the U.S. POE if the passport last name does not match the name in the AP/Green card?

I have the same problem (slightly different spelling).

1. My girl [Masha] has lost her vaccinations records (organized she is not...). Will she have to get all the shots again?

2. She has a history of health problems and she is afraid to get new shots. I know these are not required for the K-1 visa, but they are for the AOS. Is there a way for USCIS to forgive the shots?

Here's what I did in the same situation. I went to the children's clinic in my home town to which my school was attached, and asked if they could help me recreate my vaccinations history. The head of the clinic turned out to be a very understanding and cooperative lady and she quickly filled out a typical vacc. report for me, in English! Immunization shots were uniformly administered to all school kids back then, so she just wrote down a typical vaccinations history for a person my age, with years and all. And since I did not have rubella shots (they were not given before 2001), she had a nurse give it to me on the spot, for free!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFreaking out

After he paid the fees and all, the lady told him that there is a law office right around the corner from them that represent the embassy and works directly with Kiev to go there and see if they can speed up the process. He went there and the lawyer told him that for $340 he can get it within 4 weeks, if needed even earlier he'll get it for 10 days but it'll be much more expensive. So..........Vova and I decided to go with this lawyer but if you can get that info for us then I'll greatly appreciate it. I will wait for your answer before he goes back to that lawyer. Vova is so pissed, why couldn't this lady tell him this right away and told him AFTER he paid the $50 fee? Is that their ways of making money or something

NYGirl, any info I can get would be equally on the surface for you guys. I have no business with Ukraine but here in Russia, making a trust doc for a paid footman to run to GUVD and obtain the certificate for you would cost 50 USD in total and take some 20 days. I cannot imagine it would be much harder/longer in Kiev.
My guess is that the "lawyer" recommended to you guys is actually part of corrupt structure to get extra cash from visa applicants and there are easier and more legit ways to obtain the police clearance. Please read the link I provided, there's a paid service offered there. Or here.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFreaking out

Hello,

My fiance is originally from Ukraine so I sent him to the ukrainian embassy to order his police report. I read on their website that it should be FREE. Today my fiance went there and had to pay up front $50 and they told him that once he'll receive it there are much more fees to pay ( but i don't care about that, that's the least of the problem)
Now, he has asked how long is the wait and they told me him that by law it should take about 3 months but from their own experiece people don't receive it earlier than 8-12 months and not to expect earlier than in 8 months The lady told him that he can go to Ukraine, live there for 15-20 days and obtain it himself. That's impossible, he can't quit his job and school and just move to Kiev!!!!!
Any suggestions?

I am freaking out :crying:

NYGirl, don't cry. :) The easiest solution is to have someone do it for your fiance in trust. Here's a description how - if you read Russian:
http://www.greencard...icates/ukraine/ (go to the end of the page). You can search up a paid service on Yandex.ru, and this way it may take less time since such people have established relationships with govt. officials. Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionquestions for any russians or anyone from CIS

Hi everyone I had a question with regards to police certficates coming from Moscow. My wife who lives in Almaty talked to the Russian embassy with regards to getting the police certifate from there, well the man on the phone from the embassy said it will take at least 2 months!!! Now has anyone else from Russian or the CIS expernced anything like that, and is he just getting my wife scared or is he telling the truth. Any sort of answers or experences that you may have I am happy to hear about it because her interview is on the 19th of April and well I dont want to have her wait any longer then what needs to be sigh!! Thanks in advance

Order a paid service, they will obtain it for you fast and cheap. Try this one. There's an ICQ contact there if you want to talk to them.

Capt. Ewok - sorry for the ad link, I'm just trying to speed up things for people.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice cert. from USA?

They will do a background check on you as a part of the K1 visa process. I think they do it at NVC before your case gets sent to the Embassy.

Thanks, and do they just sent the results of the check to the consulate or can they make their own decisions in case something is found? (not that I remember anything but who knows!!)

Hi folks, please enlighten -
I am the beneficiary and I have previously (10 yrs ago) lived in USA for almost 3 years, as J-1 student. I returned to my home country after study.
Do I understand correctly that USA is not included in the list of countries from which I will need to obtain police clearance?

BTW, your timeline, being an exception from general stats, may still be moving back the projected adjudication date for the rest of CSC filers. Just a thought. :)

CanadaWhen To Get Married?
I have exactly the same interview date as yours, I also plan the move to the US in November and wedding the 1st week of January. I plan to file for AOS on the next day and hopefully receive my EAD before the 90 days expire.

As for AOS, with the current pace of USCIS, there's little chance of your GC arriving before your I-94 expires anyway. So why worry. You might try for EAD though, it may be a bit faster.

PhilippinesMedical not well :(
I had the same situation - they saw a spot on my X-ray and directed me to the TB clinic for further evaluation. I went for a quick computer tomography and it showed that the "spot" was nothing more than an enlarged blood vessel from a general anesthesia I had 10 yrs ago at my surgery. The only bummer was that the CT cost me additional $150 and extra 2 days of hassle.

Don't sweat.

Lymphoma or any other type of cancer is NOT grounds for visa denial. As for TB, it's still a possibility but it's GOOD if they catch it early - normally it gives no symptoms until your lungs begin to crumble. If TB is confirmed, take a deep breath, undergo a treatment, then go get your visa and live happily ever after.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportstexas is slowwwwwwwwww

I mailed the I-129f on March 20 as of today I still haven't heard anything and the check as not been cashed. Is anyone elses case moving this slow. :crying:

Same here: mailed on March 20 and still nothing. But at least the check has cleared, hurray!

Actually my fiance was able to drop by TSC office while on a trip there and he was able to speak with the manager/director or whoever that was. According to that director guy, now is a very busy time for Texas immigration authorities since the seasonal across-the-border workers started pouring in, and their processing slows down everything else.

(I dont know what it means but I am guessing that may be H-1B visa processing is hogging up all the time)
anyone else had clues as to whats going on at CSC?

It seems you are guessing right. My fiance talked to TSC manager a month ago and was told that they were extremely busy processing zillions of H1 applications for seasonal migrating workers, thus all other visa petitions were slowed down. Same must apply to CSC.

I only wonder why they wouldn't send part of these other petitions to, say, VSC. :) But that's a rhethoric question.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMARCH FILERS :p
My fiance sent the stuff on 20 March, and two weeks later he only received confirmation that someone had signed for it at the Texas center. Now another week till the stuff arrives to CA and another week to cash the check and another week... and another week..

I'm so frustrated. And this is just the beginning.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMARCH FILERS :p

We send everything on 20 Mar and still didn't get reciept confirmation from CSC (via TSC, and TSC confirmed that they recieved it), so I guess if we still didn't get reciept confirmation from CSC after 1 week so we will not see our NOA-1 till May? :o

We are very upset

From the experience of previous months' filers to TSC, the packet may take up to 3 weeks to get transferred and accepted at CSC. I guess they mail it via Moscow! :)
So Noa1 probably won't come until April and that would automatically move you and me to April filers list. But no reason to get upset! Why hurry indeed, your life is just put on hold for a few months, no big deal. :ranting:

Did you see your interview date on Moscow embassy website prior to receiving the packet? I wonder if it gets posted there before or after they send the packet...

I guess the date on the website appears soon after they get the case from NVC. Mine left NVC on 28 Aug, must have arrived some time around 2-4 Sept., and on Sept. 5 I saw the date on the website. The mailing date on the yellow packet is Sept. 5.

I try to find some solace in the fact that those behind us will likely suffer even MORE! Although our timing was bad,..........perhaps not as bad as the ones behind us. To this extent we might consider ourselves a tiny bit lucky.....hahahahaha.

And I am hoping that because of the two bottlenecks we April batch had to go through, our respective Embassies will be setting up fewer interviews right before our cases are received, so we might actually get our interview dates faster than the folks before us.
