K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about evidence of in person meeting

My Fiancee and I have met in person and I have photographs proving this.
She came to the States on a K-1 visa with the purpose of marrying someone who turned out to be abusive. She never married him and stayed with some relatives of hers until she was able to get the money to return home.
We met while she was still in the States staying with her relatives and stated a relationship.
She has since returned to her country as she was required to leave before her 90 days expired.
I have never been to her country to visit her there but we have decided that we are in love and want to get married.

Are the photos proving the meeting here in the States acceptable proof or must I travel to her country?
If I have to go meet her there I will. I am wondering thou if it is required. The only information about meeting in person comes form the instructions, "have met in person within two years before your filing of this petition," and does not seem to specify any other requirements.

As long as this meeting happened within the past 2 years and you have it documented, I don't see why you cannot use it. But the documentation has to not only include photos but primary proof as well (ticket stubs, passport stamps, hotel receipts etc).

Does the J-1 visa itself show any signs of "subject to 212(e) requirement"? If not, then no problem indeed, but you guys might want to double-check with the consulate, as others here have said.

I've read that, but I was hoping to get some response from those who have actually done so - and the wording of the employer letter if possible. Thanks in advance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEntry on tourist visa while K-1 is in process
USC whose SO has travelled to the US under the above circumstances, or beneficiaries who have done so, please advise.

This saturday I am flying to NYC to meet with my fiance, using my open tourist visa. My last trip on this visa was in Feb'07 and I-129f was submitted shortly afterwards. What would you say are my chances of being bounced at the POE and would it really help if I carry some kind of letter from my employer that I'm expected back at work on such-and-such date etc? What other proof could I provide (no kids, rented appt, no other property except a car in Moscow)? Kinda scared of the risk of having to fly straight back to Moscow after 9 hours in the air (ouch!)

Anyone ever obtained such a letter, how should it be worded to convince the passport control people?

Thanks a bunch

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresneed info please
Hello all,

I live in NYC and my fiance lives in Bangkok. We lived together for about one year in Thailand until I moved back to the U.S. in April. We speak on the phone everyday and through e-mail as well. We would like for her to come to America so that we could get married. Once here she will stay in NYC with me. It seems to me that a K1 visa would be our best bet, but I am unsure of what all the papers I need to get together to send to the USCIS. Also once I have everything together where would I send everything along with the 455 dollar payment to.

Thanks
Aaron

I wasn't sure about how much to write either. Some people say to write one page's worth, others said just write as much as fits in the box and stick to the major points. I figured that if the USCIS wanted a big story they would've made the box to write in bigger. I just wrote in, when and how we met, and lived together from (date) to (date) Should be enough, they just want to see that you have met your fiance(e) in the last 2 years.

Send copies of any evidence. Keep the originals for the interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfinancial support
I'm in somewhat the same boat. In 2006 I worked for 4 months and made less than the min. requirement for poverty. Then I left and lived in Thailand until April 2008. Since I wasn't in the country and didn't work, I didn't even file 2007 taxes. Now in 2008 I am back in the states and should make just above the min. poverty level. I figure that I'll send in my 2008 tax returns (I should have time seeing how I just received my NOA1) with bank statements, and a letter from my employer. Hopefully that will be good.

I don't know how it is in China, but I do know that in Thailand if you marry a Thai citizen and file the papers and report the marriage to the Thai gov't, then the U.S. gov't considers you married. Married is married, regardless of where the ceremony took place.

I use my T-Mobile cell phone. They have a plan where I can call Thailand for .26 cents per minute. So I call her with that, talk for 1-10 minutes. Then her number shows up on my bill every month. Other times I just use calling cards. NYC has so many types. I get a card for 5 dollars and can talk for almost 6 hours on it.

Go to the post office. It's usually pretty reliable. From my experience don't send it express though. It costs more and takes as long as if you sent it standard rate. Usually takes 6-10 days.

She can request the interview be conducted in Thai. The only issue would be if he asked the language in which the two of you communicate. If it is english and her english is very limited, it may raise the question in the CO's mind as to whether or not the relationship is bonafide.

That's exactly what I was going to say... if you don't speak Thai AND she doesn't speak English that is where the problem comes in. I've seen others that had the same issue. If she speaks well enough to communicate with you, that should be good enough.

BTW... "an unnamed source" at the Embassy says that the English speaking interviewers are MUCH nicer than the Thai speaking interviewers...

BTW... "an unnamed source" at the Embassy says that the English speaking interviewers are MUCH nicer than the Thai speaking interviewers... Anna told me she "had fun" at the interview and that everyone was very nice, so experiences clearly vary widely.

That is correct. The interview can be conducted in Thai using a translator like people mentioned here already with no problem, however if she can't speak ANY english and you can't speak any Thai, then that will probably be a problem.

My fiance said the same thing at her interview. She had a friend who had an interview in Thai, and she said she didn't feel too comfortable during the whole process, whereas my fiance had her interview in English and she said the interviewer was extremely nice and friendly.

I wonder if when a Thai person chooses to do the interview in English does the interviewer speak fluent English to them or use "Thai English" ("I go store" as opposed to "I am going to the store") Could the Thai's do the interview in mixed English and Thai?

ANNA WAS TOLD TO PICK UP HER VISA ON DECEMBER 11 (The 10th is a holiday.)

Anna CLEARLY had a LOT of fun at her interview. Apparently she and the interviewer had a lot of laughs... she said it felt more like a conversation than an interview. Everyone was very friendly. (I should point out that Anna is EXTREMELY self confident and outgoing and was not nervous at all...)

They had problems getting her fingerprints and told her that she might need to come back for that... not sure if the situation was resolved yet because we could only talk for a minute and she had to hang up. I remember that the Thai police also said that it was hard to fingerprint her when she picked up her police report. The CO said, "Don't worry about it, some people are good in fingerprints and some people are good in smiles... you are good in smiles...

Some of the questions asked were:

What is your name?
(She answered)
Your English is very good, where did you learn?
(She learned English and German on her own.)
How many times have you met?
(This led to a conversation about me spending the entire summer in BKK. He asked how that was possible, and she told him that I was a professor and could therefore spend the summer doing whatever I wished. He joked about that being a nice job... and she said "do you know he can even take the entire year off at half pay and go to work elsewhere? We are hoping to go to London." He said "when?" And she said maybe 2010. [I winced at this honest reply...could this have caused a problem?? I wasn't sure...])
How did you meet?
(She told him that we met online and that I spent so much time chatting with her that at first she didn't really believe that I was a professor because a professor wouldn't have that much time to spend online... this conversation went on for a while....)
What was the reason for his divorce?
(She explained my ex's very conservative religious beliefs.)
What do you do for a living?
(She is a Key Account Manager for the largest stem cell banking company in Asia. The CO seemed surprised by this. He laughed and said that he did not know that Thailand had that technology. This led to a conversation about the different kinds of stem cell banking and the cost structures. The CO seemed interested and she gave him her card and told him to call her company... hahaha... she never misses an opportunity...)

That's all I know so far... more debriefing later. I have a lot of work to finish up tonight!

Nice!!

I looked into this week about a one way to bkk and I called delta and told me since I am a usa citzen that I have to have proof of a return ticket or a forward of onward travel.

While technically true, in practice I've never heard of this being enforced. Personally, I have been to Thailand many times and have never been required to show such proof. In fact, I have even been there without a return ticket.

I agree, it is rarely enforced, if ever. I always flew to Thailand on a one way ticket. One time when I got to BKK they wanted to see an onward ticket at the immigration counter, which I didn't have, I just told them that I was going to Singapore in 30 days. That worked for about 2 years cool.gif

I wish I could get some functional answer to this from my husband but honestly he only knows about islam from his father and what guys from the cafe answer... not exactly nice to not know at this point. It's a big BIG issue, as raising children islamically here in america seems next to impossible. Has anyone noticed all the sex and kissing spread all over the tv and popular cultural activities and advertisement. No subtlety at all anymore... even I'm not comfortable, even I'm scared. Once a real muslim man thinks about it he'll consider it scary, and if he hasn't even lived he yet his comprehension is like a murky shadowy old mans tale of horror....
mmm Lovely!

LOL i know my aunt is muslim and my dad ( I went to islamic school from 3rd-8th grade and neaver became muslim lol I only belive in God i have no religoun thats why i love my family they take me how i am and neaver asked why ) Anyways when my anut loves DvR lol she records everything and fast forward all the kissing and stuff on tv, its funny cuz like 1/2 the show is missing but she tries to keep her kids in shape.

Will the renewal cause a problem since the passport biographic page I sent in for I-130 and DS-230 is from the old passport?

on NVC level that will represent NO problem at all
AT THE EMBASSY LEVEL she should have a passport with validity NOT less than 6 Months ..so u are fine ..nothing to worry ...

As long as she has 6months on her passport for the interview she is ok well the poe anyways.

Hi, Jeluslaem should be use to cases like yours sence it is culture and religon , but make sure if they do ask to tell them you both had a choice in your answer to marry are not, that is basically why muslims ( u are muslim right ? if not sorry) have long enagments to get to know one and other before takeing the big step b/c you are allowed to not marry the person if u dont like them after geting to know the person during a long enangment, but you guys did love each other ( im hopeing lol) So Just make sure they know like i said if ask, You and your husband did have a choiceand it was not a forced marriage. Plus im sure if they do ask your husband has many reasons why he asked your father and you for your hand. " I know alot of people dont understand arranged marriges but im sure in juruslaem they should b/c its mostly the way things are there"
One more thing make sure who ever is having the appointment take alot of pichers, emails what ever to prove you guys do love each other and best of luck.
