National Visa Center (Dept of State)Do we have to bring any kind of paperwork to the Police Station when requesting a Police Ceificate?
No need to take any paperwork. He just has to provide the NVC info like the address it is going to. The actual report is addressed to the NVC. He needs to also bring two passport sized pictures with him. He can pay JA$2000 for 3-day service or JA$1000 for 21-day service. Make sure your husband signs the report. Mike did not sign his, but no consequences occured from it, but yardies stress that it be signed.

Good luck with the rest of your journey.

No the packet is forwarded from the NVC to your consulate with all the documents you submitted. If you want your originals back, you should bring copies (not sure if it needs to be certified copies) with you to the interview. good.gif

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DS-230 Question?
Just send the DS-230 along with the bar-coded page, and don't forget to include 2 passport pics of the beneficiary. Remember to fill in Ques #20 completely, even if you have to handwrite "present" in the from/to field. And make sure that part one is signed and part two unsigned. Good luck.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Photocopy page of the biographic data page of passport
QUOTE (Tash @ Mar 23 2008, 05:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello,

I have a question where it contains the photocopy of the biographic data page. My husband still has the old jamaican passport. It's still valid, but on the new one the photo is included on the page in which list your name/date of birth. I'm assuming this is the biographic page. So in my case I just need to photocopy the page with his name/date of birth info correct? Even though the picture is not on that page. Or just copy all and send all? Any one here using the old jamaican passport.

I know people who still travel on it, so it's vaild. But not sure if it be an issue for filing purpose. Any one knows?

Tash, I think you can use that. Just copy the page with the name and DOB and then copy the page with his picture. The passport number should be on the copies so it will all match up. good.gif After all this is done he should maybe try to get a new one, hoping the passport number remains the same, and he will have that for the interview. Let's see what others say.

The agent copy got sent within the U.S. got sent pretty quickly; got it 2 days after they scheduled the interview.

The beneficiary copy in the international country took quite some time longer. NVC seems to be sending mail internationally by using DHL's Deutsche Post World Net service. Not exactly sure how that service works, but the notice arrived in the ordinary mail about 3 weeks after the interview was scheduled, still just in time.

I believe you could FAX the agent copy if the original doesn't make it to the foreign country in time.

I was told that the letter was mailed on 3/24 that was three weeks ago and neither the beneficiary, the petitioner nor the agent has received it. The petitioner and agent lives in the US. No mail within the US takes that long to get to the recipient. At least I have a back up plan.

Has anyone ever created a barcoded coversheet for the I-864 coversheet and been successful? National Visa Center (Dept of State)CR-1 Interview fees?
I had this same question because at the time of the increase I had read somewhere that if you paid the $380 fee and your interview was after Feb 28, you would be required to pay the difference. I have asked a couple of people that had their interviews in Jamaica after the fee increase and was told that they did not have to pay any additional fees. I hope that is true for all because we have expended enough with this process and it would be unfair of them to expect us to pay more when we paid the original fee before it was increased.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Timings of mailings from NVC
The operators always tell you the date it was mailed out but this is not necessarily true. They told me mine was mailed out on 3/24 but when I received it, that was the date it was generated and not mailed until 4/7 and I received it 4/10. If things are mailed out promptly and not two weeks later, it would be ideal. We can't always trust what the operators tell us. I think they tell us whatever they feel will get us off the phone the quickest.

However I got this message from NVC.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

The NVC has received the requested Affidavit of Support form (I-864) for this case. However we are still waiting for the previously requested Immigrant Visa application (DS-230). Please submit the form according to the instructions. To download the instructions and a copy of the DS-230 form, please visit: http://travel.state..../info_1335.html

Regards,
National Visa Center
M2B

So should I go ahead and send the DS-230 or wait until the auto system shows that its been mailed?

The automated system is not very clear. I suggest you speak with a representative and ask them if they have received your $400 payment yet. The DS-230 packet does not get generated and mailed out until the payment is processed. And you should allow 2-4 weeks from the generation date to receive the DS-230 packet. I'd wait for the request before sending anything in, unless you want to try the shortcuts.

The email message from the NVC clearly states that they are waiting on the waiting on the previously requested immigrant application and clearly gave him instructions on how to obtain and download the form. If it were me I would print out the email and include it with the form. If you want to wait longer then wait. It is a decision only you can make. Good luck good.gif

Hey Tash;

Congrats on getting case complete. My SO's case was completed on 3/3/08 and he got an interview dates scheduled for 5/6/08. That is approximately 2 months but I got info about the interview date on 3/25. You should keep calling NVC and make sure you talk to an operator and try to convince them to give you the date. Try to impress upon them that you are currently in Ja and would like to know if a date can be scheduled before you return to the states, unless you are planning to be there for a while.

Will you be staying there for a while? If so, I would implore you to email the embassy and ask if you can come pick up a duplicate packet for the interview as soon as you find out the interview date. You will need this letter to get the medical done and enter the embassy on the date of your husband's interview. Unless you have someone here in the states to send you your copy, you will be waiting forever to get correspondence in JA. The letter will be mailed from the US and will get to your US address faster.

Thanks Clairern for the advice as always. As mentioned above I will not stay much longer. I actually return tomorrow. I was down here from April 10th. Just using some vac time, gotta go back to work. But I will def keep up with calling NVC and see if they can give me a interview date. I see it took you about 3 wks time to get your date. I will wait the same amount of time. Yes I know how the mailing system is, extremely slow. So as usual I will Fed Ex him the paperwork to bring for the medical.

Thanks again.

Congrats Forbes,

The response I got from my husband was just a BIG SMILE. He doesn't want to show too much emotions until everything is finalized he says, lol. Well I had to be the one making all the noise for both of us, lol. Yes our timeline is right on track and practical just down the street from one another. Who can tell, we may get the same interview date. Ok then, I hope you settled down and off that fracture ankle. Get well soon. Going to need it to run into hubby's arms. lol

Tash;

Not to be a big mouth, laughing.gif laughing.gif (like that ever stopped me) no0pb.gif but DHL is cheaper and faster than Fedex. Earlier this year I tried sending a package with them and they quoted me $90 to get there in 4-5 days and I was being required to fil out all sorts of customs delarations.

I went to DHL and paid $48 and it got there in 4 days and I did not have to fill out anything but the address label. Last week Friday I sent Mike his interview letter and he got it on Tuesday and they do not work on Sundays. I do not know why there is such a big difference in price but you can compare and see.

Good luck good.gif

Well Congrats,

I reviewed your timeline and saw we were on or about the same track. I decided to contact the NVC and heard that our case was completed yesterday. smile.gif smile.gif . I am so happy right now. I just called my husband and he was watching cricket and started yelling louder than the TV.

I just hope I will be able to travel by the time of the interview. Boy I hope this fracture ankle will not stop me. I really want to be there.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Hi Everyone, My case is finally Complete!
Hey Tash;
