hi guys my wife will be getting her pack 3 in a couple days and i wanted to know wish Affidavit of Support form should i use for her interview I-134,I-864 or I 864EZ and do i need another seperate one for her son

Hey K, I think because it is a K-visa you only need to fill out and submit the I-134 and include her son on the same form in the section that asks for others accompanying the beneficiary. good.gif

If I am wrong someone will be sure to come along and correct me. unsure.gif

Here is the link to the example form http://www.visajourn.../Form-I-134.pdf

My Dear Nicky;

This is what you should do. Log onto VJ Yardies forum and interact with the VJers that post on a daily basis. They will give you advice aand support and they will also help you along the way. This forum is a great place to pass time, and share the experiences that others have gone thru. They don't post a lot on the weekends, but during the week you will find the "crew" posting here very often. You will laugh with them, cry with them and share in all the joy that this wonderful group of friends have to offer. The time will go by so fast, it will make you wonder. Time flies on VJ : thumbs: good.gif

I went to the kingston website and it stated that all NIV had to scedule their own appointment. I scheduled and appointment for Oct 24, 2007. NVC said they do not show my fiance scheduled for the appointment. What do I do? Do i keep the appointment or should I cancel. Does the embassy schedule the appointment for the interview or do we. Also Delvan recieved his packet three but it was just a letter telling him to put his name on everything he sends them. I had him go to the embassy and turn in his DS230 form. What do we do now? Any ideas please help.

Hey Nicky;

Welcome to VJ. You have joined a very resourceful group and will get good advice and guidance. Make you you read the guides, and follow them as the information posted there is from people who have gone on this journey.

To answer your question. If you file for a K-1, as I see from your timeline, your SO will be sent two packages that will give hime precise instructions as to what to do and when to do it. Appointment for your type of visa petition is scheduled by the embassy after you case file is complete.

The only time a NIV appointment is made by the applicant is when they applying without someone petitioning for them.

I hope that is clear. Other members on VJ can clarify this for you. I have not actully gone through the process, but have read the guides and posts extensively and have sort of an idea what happens.

Good luck.

Is it okay to fill out the DS-230-I before it's received in the packet so we can just send it straight back instead of having to fill it out when it gets here? Or does it have some sort of unique identifier on it somewhere?

Thanks

Fill it out and have it ready to send back right away when you get the letter. Have the beneficiary sign only the second page and include two passport pictures with it. Write the beneficiary's name and case number on the back and attach it with paper clip to the left upper corner of the DS-230. The only thing unique is the barcoded page that you have to return with the form and whatever documents you have to submit with it. Do you know if your embassy is an appointment post or standard? Good luck good.gif good.gif

I believe you just have to pay the US131 for the non-refundable application fee, the delivery fee if the visa is approved... and the medical examination prior to your fiance's interview... Not sure if there are any other things... and perhaps some miscellaneous stuff that your fiance has to pay for....

Cheers star_smile.gif

This is correct. The delivery fee is around $45.
He will need a police record which is around $100 and he needs to get it in Kingston.
He will need a non-impediment of marriage form which is around $100 and he needs to get from a local RDG office.

If you fiance needs any shots at all, I suggest he has those done at the local clinic before the medical exam to save some money. The actual medical exam is around $100 too.

For airpak to deliver the visa is that much....don't remember hubby paying that much

I think my girlfriend paid $500/Jamaican $$$$$s

He has done the medical and gotten his police record, but what is a non-impediment of marriage? This is something needed at the interview, right?

Hi Gooden;

How was he able to schedule the medical and get it done? Has he received his interview appointment? Please update your timeline with pertinent info so you can be better assisted with the next steps of your journey. The steps are:--

Petitioner files I-129F
Notice of receipt received
Notice of approval received
Case goes through NVC and assigned NVC case number and forwarded to Kingston
DS-230 application submitted with supporting documents
DS-230 reviewed
Application reviewed and interview appointment letter sent to petitioner and beneficiary
Medical appointment scheduled by beneficiary (needs interview letter to schedule)
Interview attended

At what stage of the process are you right now? Let us know so that we can be better able to direct your next steps.

And by the way the Non impediment form is obtainable from the Registrar General's Office island-wide. The certificate will state that the beneficiary is free to marry.

Good luck with your journey.

Hey Kid brooklyn;

You are phenominal!!! dancin5hr.gif dancin5hr.gif Thnaks for this very informative thread and the hard work you must have put into it. A couple of questions for you if you don't mind star_smile.gif

1.How would one know if their case ws in one of those packages?

2. The next question I have is how soon after the interview date is assigned does the letter get mailed and received?

First, you are welcome. I like helping out, but sometimes I forget or am too busy preparing for our own interview which is this Friday.

Ok, about your questions:

1. You really would never be able to know 100%, there are no names with the tracking numbers. You can call the NVC and they will tell you exactly what day it shipped. Then look at the list for that day and see if there was a package to your country's embassy. If there is, chances are very good that it's yours. If there's not, look at the day after and before. It's more of an educated guess than anything. But if you have already received an interview date, you don't even need to bother with this because your case was already received and processed by the embassy. They are the ones who schedule interviews, not NVC. If they already scheduled you for an interview, your case was shipped by NVC and received by the embassy.

2. What letter? You mean the interview appointment letter? I would assume within a day or two, but that's just a guess. If you received or have the list of approved doctors, you can schedule your medical. I think it's good for 60 days, but I'm not 100% sure, it may be 30. You'd have to call the embassy or somebody here knows I'm sure. Also, start the vaccinations as soon as possible. Have your SO go to their general doctor and get whatever vaccines they're missing. The cost at the embassy doctor's office during the medical is very high.

Good luck.

Thanks Kid;

Actually our interview appointment is made by NVC. Our case was completed 3/3 and interview date was given to me on 3/25 for 5/6. I called NVC yesterday and the automated sustem says the case was forwarded to the embassy on 4/1, but I still have not received the interview letter. My SO already scheduled the medical for 4/16 and because of how the mail system is in JA, I have to send my copy to him by DHL so he can have it to take to the medical. I got the required vaccinations from a friend who forwarded it from the CDC site.

For example my case was completed on 3/3/08 and I was assigned an interview date on 3/25/08 for interview date of 5/6/08. How soon after the interview date is schedule would one estimate that the package was shipped?

The next question I have is how soon after the interview date is assigned does the letter get mailed and received?

Just trying to get a handle on things so my SO can get his vaccination and schedule his medical with enough time to get them completed before the interview.

If you have any idea, your thoughts about this would be greatly and highly appreciated.

Well, my first advice is dump the lawyer if you can. But he probably got his money up front before you realized lawyers are useless in these cases. As soon as you have your case number for the consulate you can get the correct medical exam. You will get the case number from the NVC when they send the case to the consulate. You can download packet 3 and 4 from the consulate, no need to wait on them (or your attorney) for anything. My fiancee had her medical exam a month before the interview, but it must be at a designated clinic. He wasted his time and money (but he got a check up). My fiancee never received packet 3 or 4 and we didn;t wait. We had our intervuew date the day after the case arrived in Kiev because we had everything ready 2 months in advance because we did it ourselves and weren't slowed down by an attorney.

Gary

Not necessarily true for all consulates. The medical in Jamaica can only be done after you have the interview letter in hand. When you call to schedule the medical, that is the first thing they ask, if you have the date and the letter confirming such. They will not let you into the doctor's office unless you have that letter. no0pb.gif

Hey Yankeegirl; the medical needs to be done at one of the designated civil surgeons listed on the embassy website. You will not be able to complete the medical until you have the interview letter in your hand because it will need to be presented at the doctors office. They will not do the medical without it even if you have your case number and all the forms completed.

You don't have to wait for the forms from the embassy. You can download all the forms from the embassy website and complete them in advance so that when they are requested you have them all ready. If you read the K-1 guides here you will see all the forms needed. When your case is forwarded to the embassy you can email them and request a date to drop off the DS-230 to speed up the process a little.

I think you will need his original birth cert (long form); non-impediment form; police cert; DS-156, DS-157 and the visa fee of $131 plus whatever taxes to be paid in advance at paymaster.

Like Kimmie said earlier, you can visit the yardie thread and get more info becaue there are a couple of ladies there who are going through and have recently gone through this process. The info provided there is country specific, so you have to be careful. Each embassy has their own requirements and rules.

Good luck with the rest of the process and may you soon be reuinted with your loved one good.gif

Hey there smile.gif

You must mean you recieved your NOA2 recently if you had filed in March...the processing times in Montreal are looking slightly long right now - average according to VJ is about 116 days before you get your interview, so you will have plenty of time to look into transportation. But it looks as though it is very doable without a car. I will have to fly in from NB, so I'm glad that city transportation will be available, because with the price of gas, I'd hate to have to drive!

There is a few people on here who do stats for the K-1's - if you have a moment, you should fill in your timeline, I'm sure they would be appreciative!

But it says ONLY the checkist, none of the documents that it says to get? I just want to make sure they don't have any reason not to put me in queue for an interview date.

You're going through Montreal eh?

from the trends that I've seen with other CDN filers, Montreal schedules interviews in the middle of the month with cut off dates usually in the first week of the previous months...wow that sounds horrid...

Example: Montreal got my P3 on the 2nd of October, give it a couple days to get in the system (october 7th), then they do their checks. Everyone that got their P3's in by, say, the first week to 2 weeks of October will (hopefully, barring any RFE's or extra checks) be grouped into the next interview slots. Montreal doesn't have a set timeline - my letter said to expect a 2-3 month wait for a date. Most of the K-1 visas are then set for the middle of a month (seems to be between the 14-17 in most cases)

Is that ridiculously confusing? LOL I hope it kinda makes sense, and if any canucks want to correct me, please do smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCase forwarded to Embassy in Bogota, Questions!
Ok, so I have received confirmation that the packet has been forwarded to the Consulate in Bogota from the VSC center on July 8th,these are my questions and the answers might be unique to the US embassy in Bogota.
1- The website advises to call on case status is to be done ONLY between 2-4 pm on Wednesdays, does this mean even to verify if they have received the packet from VSC?
2- If I confirm that they have the packet I am going to my fiancée download the forms directly from the website DS-2100 and DS-230 and send them in and not wait to receive them by mail, because according to what I read this can take a anywhere from 1-3 weeks.
3- According to their website, the DS-2100 and DS-230 must either be faxed or Mailed, I need suggestions which is the best way to do this with the least amount of risk of thinks getting lost 9perhaps from someone who has been through this?)
Thanks for all your help.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionColombia Frustration!

Try e-mailing them, some times it's easier to get this information that way. Just tell them that you were on hold during the 2 hour window and every time you were disconnected. Don't forget to include your BGT#.

Diana

I did E-Mail them here is what I got back:

We sent your fiancée a packet of instructions on July 17, 2010. These instructions explain how to apply for a visa appointment. The forms in the packet must be returned to our office via fax or email in order for us to schedule your fiancee’s appointment.
If she has not yet received her packet, she can download it from http://bogota.usemba...t-package.html.
Best regards,
IV Unit

I then Advised them:

We downloaded the files and faxed them back on the 14th of July, (DS-2100 and DS-230)
Should that be noted in the system? she has the fax confirmation.

They responded:

It should be noted, but it would appear that we did not receive them. Can she resend them to this email? That is a more secure method.

So I have now scanned the Docs and e-mailed them as PDF files. One week wasted, not the end of the world but frustrating anyway.

What a waste of time. I tried calling the consulate between the 2 hour weekly window (Wednesdays between 2-4PM Colombian time) I got through 3 separate times after dozens of dials, each time to be transferred, then wait on hold for 20-30 minutes until I was disconnected without reason. US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionConflicting K-1 instructions/DS-230 Part 1 from Bogota

Thank you.

My fiance faxed (using fax number given on DS-2100, from inside Colombia) the DS-2100 and DS-230 Part 1 to Bogota on 7/12/10. On DS-2100 she gave her email address. We thought the embassy would have sent her confirmation of receipt of the fax, but they have not. On 7/19/10 I phoned Dept. of State and they checked the system for me: the receipt of our Package 3 forms has not yet been logged into system. D.O.S. advised to call back every several days (DOS or embassy on Wednesdays).

Is this normal for a fax to the embassy (with Package 3 forms to initiate interview scheduling), if successfully received, to take this long to be acknowledged at least by being entered as received in their internal system? I'd hate to wait a month to find out it must be sent again.

Thanks

We Sent our fax of Ds-2100 and DS-230 on July 15th, I tried in vain to call them yesterday (Wednesday) during the 2 hour window, that was a total waste of time, got through 3 times and each time I was transferred from the operator to someone in Visas I ended up in Limbo for 30 minutes, then disconnected.

I finally had success in writing to the embassy and they basically believed me when I told them I had the fax Confirmation (which I do) but they still could not find the documents. So lesson to be learned, Scan the Documents, save as a pdf file and ask them to verify in a response e-mail that they have received them.

My fiancée went to pay for the visa at Banco Helms in Bogota, she said they were extremely polite but she was concerned that they gave her back the DS-156 form unaltered (no Stamps or anything) but they did place two stickers on her passport. the reason she is concerned is she was under the belief that the bank needed to 'authorize" the form, but the girl at the bank guaranteed her that they only needed to label her passport, are we good?

The Embassy rep never even spoke to me, just smiled and said good morning. One question, the famous "envelope" that is supposed to be handed to the immigration officer here at the point of entry, does she pick that up at Domesa when she goes to pick up her visa? we didn't see anyone leaving with the envelope from the embassy.

How do you know that your RFE was entered into the system? What does the automated message say?

Thanks.

Why does Jamaican Embassy take up to 3 month to schedule an interview...can any shed some light on that for me?....Keep in mind they just completed a huge building only last year...itrs really big....so why the long wait?

I am sorry, what I meant to say was the I was not aware of that 3 month wait for an interview date to be scheduled. Mike has been waiting for 7 years to get to this point and you are telling me he has to wait 3 months to get an interview? mad.gif mad.gif His case was completed March 3rd and I was hoping that he would have at least get an interview sometime in April. crying.gif crying.gif This is BS. I am just so frigging fraustrated. At least you are lucky that your wife has been to visit and can probably visit you again before she gets an interview. I envy you wink.gif wink.gif
