Guys I went to bed but can't sleep.

offtopic45vn.gif All this talk about airline tickets have me wondering. Mike called a travel agency in Ja and got a quote for a flight to Orlando and was given JA$48,000 for a Delta flight. wow.gif I asked him if it was a first class ticket and he said no. I kindly tole him to call AJ or the airline itself and it is sure to be cheaper. He called AJ and was given JA$22,000. I like this is really too much so I went on line and checked for my self. The oneway ticket to Orlando is listed as US$144 + $96 or so for tax. A little over US$200. If I convert it to Ja money at say JA$70 to US$1 that would eqal about JA$14,000 or so. Why is the ticket more expensive if purchased in JA? Anyone with a clue about the price variations?

Lawny you might be able to answer that for me since I know you all purchased Marcel's ticket in JA (assuming).

Clairern. I have purchase tickets from JA and they always cost more than the ones I purchase state side. One there is another tax that they charges addition to the ones you pay state side. Also note, if the ticket is purchase state side, at the time of departure they still charge for that additionbal tax. It can be anywhere from 8.00 to 32.00 dollars. I for one would not purchase my ticket in JA, I would purchase an e- ticket here and pay the additional tax.

Roxcie

So in essence, it would be more cost effective of I purchase an e-ticket for him and let him pay whatever additional taxes they want (I think that is what used to be called the departure tax at one time). Well, I will just have to see what happens.

Thanks for your opinion on this. good.gif

Girl,

Do it online. Same rass foolishness when he went to the AJ office in Mobay. I paid $241/US for his one-way ticket. If he purchased it in Jamaica it would have been $340/US. So, when I called she was trying to tell me about this and that fee and taxes and it being a paper ticket and that it's one-way. Mi jus hang up my phone and book it online.

wow.gif that is what it is? All taxes and paying for a paper ticket? Well looks like we will be booking on line.

Claire....

If you purchase online, they should include that departure tax in the ticket price. I booked Andre's out online and we weren't charged anything extra on departure.

Paper tickets have always costed you an additional charge. The internet is a thing of beauty as far as that goes.

Thanks girl. Ii will take all this into consideration. Just waiting for him to give me the date he wants to leave and we will go from there. Good looking out as usual. good.gif

TL;

I'm so happy for you..

You have Supligen and Nutrament, but I think those have more sugar in it than Ensure or boost.

Honey; you can carry it in your suitcase, but it weighs a lot (depends on how much your carry). I bring about a dozen when I go to visit grandmother. They do sell it in Jamaica, but it's VERY expensive.

Talking about gaining weight, my husband has put on 12lbs since the 4th of July and I'm looking at him and trying to find out where the weight is devil.gif (I'm so BAD)....

Not sure if "D" like hardo bread, white rice or spicy bun, but he will gain a lot of weight eating that. For the 2 weeks my little brother was in Jamaica he packed on 10lbs and I lost 11. For some reason, I alwasy lose weight when I go home and I eat 3 times the amount of food. What's up with that.

Yeah!!!! That happens to me too. I wonder why??? ohmy.gif

More on a serious note:

I was not clear. I corrected myself. I am sorry if you are taking my not being clear so personally. I am use to talking to people who have religious ceremonies or "engagement" parties depending on where you are from (which you would not be signing a marriage certificate) and I should have made that clear since in the Caribbean we don't usually have those type of things.

The information was corrected in a timely manner and I like all of you are going through the process. No one here is a true expert or we would not be on this site looking for support. I am not use to posting on this forum, and again should have made myself more clear in the distinction between ceremony and marriage.

JAG, I appreciate your passion, and I see how me not being clear could have caused a problem BUT I don't see how you responding to me in that tone would help. The information u provided was good and right on time. Thank you.

I must say though... Your character is well needed in the judicial system...you would make a great attorney if you aren't one already. good.gif Thanks for the correction! Its well appreciated. I know now NOT to write responses in haste. There is a lesson learned in every situation. star_smile.gif

Trelawny...Thanks for the info!

I must admit, re-reading my response, I could have been less 'hard' lol..... I do apologize for that, I know you did not post maliciously smile.gif
I hope our dialogue will most definitely re-reinforce the message to remain single until on US soil when filing K1!!

You can still get married in JA even when file a K1. Upon visa Approval, You can travel down to JA, have your wedding and then travel back to the US together. Many people do that. There is a girl on the Sub-Saharan forum who filed a K1 and is in Ghana right now preparing for her wedding in a few days. If you have anyone in JA that can help you with the planning, you can start collecting all the materials you need. It is very possible! I say go for your dream wedding good.gif

Please refrain from peddling mis-information.
YOU CANNOT marry BEFORE arriving in the States on a K1.

I would advise you to go and do some RESEARCH before ADVISING people. Do you have any idea how much your INCORRECT advice could set someone back????

Y'all must be reading my mind today, i was just talking to my friend about this same subject earlier. I really have my heart on getting married in JA, but of course with the visa process, since we are planning on doing the K1 that cant happen. We have discussed having a NONLEGAL ceremony on the beach in May( which is what i want, i want to have my friends fly down to be there) and then just going the justice of the peace route when he actually gets here. I have heard others mention that you have to be careful with the nonlegal ceremony route( im not sure why) im thinking that if you showed pictures( that the Embassy, may think it is a legal marriage and deny yoU????? Im just grasping at straws here) Can anyone clarify for me? ( i mean obviously, i wouldnt be stupid enough to present those photos at my interview, so im just wondering.

Honey I think you are reading MY mind!!

AW and I had the same convo when I was there this month. I want to get married in JA so bad and we talked about doing a nonlegal ceremony a few months after the interview. That would require us to be apart of little while longer after approval, but would give AW some time to handle loose ends with his family before coming to the states and me enough time to plan a wedding. We'll see what happens -- as you know I change my mind often whistling.gif

Hey guys. My take on this marrying after the K-1 interview is not such a good idea. You have to be single when the visa is activated and if you marry before your SO enters the US the purpose of the K-1 is voided. "You have to marry in the US".

Just my humble opinion good.gif

The other part to my question of the day!!!

Have you ever been curious about your SO's past and if you have been given detailed info, how does that make you feel and did you look at him/her any differently? blush.gif

Mike has 5 kids with 5 different women and when I found out I was like "huh" and the way I reacted made him mad cause I jokingly said to him "you are a little #######, weren't you?" He was maaaaaadddd, but I jusgt laughed about it and moved on because this all happened when he was in the army and police force and he is a different person now. I do not use that what happened years ago to judge him. whistling.gif

I base my relationship with him now on the perspn he is and what life's lessons have taught him. Those experiences have made him who he is today, counseling kids to stay on the right path and serving his God. I am so grateful to God for him, although I can be a total "B" at time and test his patience. rolleyes.gif

Well, I just opened my envelope and in it $1500 CASH. I don't know who contributed so, I'm not sure how to do thank you. Is it tacky to send an e-mail to the entire department (169 people). I don't know who contributed though or I would send thank you notes.

About the thank you. I think if you get a card and address it to the entire department it would be more PC than an e-mail. It is more personal and just write a little something from your and Marcel's heart. good.gif And like someone says include a wedding pic or two.

Ok ladies, here I am again with one of those questions that make you go "huh?" huh.gif I am at work and my patients are sleeping so here goes my wondering mind again. lol

Have you ever discussed your past relationships in detail with your SO and has your SO been curious enough to get detail info about your past? I know some people go into specific detail about everything that happened in their past and to me that tends to be a little tricky.

I told my ex-husband about an incident that happened to me in high school that I never told anyone else and it was used against me in ways you cannot even imagine when I least expected it. Until this day I am in shock about what he did but life goes on and I have dealt with it.

Mike has never questioned me about my past and I tell him what I choose to and what is significant for him to know. I feel that if it does not directly affect our current relationship, it is not necessary for him to know.

Your thoughts????? whistling.gif

#######? I dare some man to tell me I have to throw away all my stuff cause he won't sit on it. He'd be on the floor and my furniture would stay put.

Claire, your past is what it is, the past. The past is for you to learn from not for other to critiique. I beleive my past is only to be shared if it is going to have some affect or impact on my future.

Roxcie

Hey Roxie;

I believe that too. Marcel only wanted to know about my ex (my son's father), since that will be his stepson. I told him everything he wanted to know. He's never asked about anything else. My friend told me when her fiance came up in Janaury...she had to get rid of all her old furniture, bed and coach and I was like (maybe the bed), but why the coach (he didn't want to lay his head where another man's head had been)...my hands in the air. She had to change her home and cell numbers, refused to drive in the car (after he found out it was her ex's car) given to her at the divorce settlement. To me these are petty things. The list goes on. They're now in counseling. I mean, 'ish...it's bad enough you have to deal with the emotional rollercoaster with all the immigration mess and with them adjusting. Thank God I'm blessed. So, far so, good.

That man needs to grow up.

AMEN jg!!!!!!! that is just pure foolishness and I would not be the one replacing that stuff either so I hope he brought some extra money along w/ him for all this new stuff!!

its funny u brought this topic up claire.. RG and I had a bit of a blow up a couple of days ago.. for some reason we were talking bout past..and somehow he voiced to me his opinion about women and multiple partners. he said women are different from men and should live more virtous lives ??????????
so of course we go back and forth about how this is such double standard and he tells me about a former girlfriend and how he NEVER looked at her the same becuz she told him that she had had alot of partners. His rass asks how many (big mistake) and she told him the truth that she had had 20 by the age of 25. He said he couldn't help feeling uncomfortable being around her becuz it was always in the back of his mind. he said she would have been better off keeping that to herself.. I was hot, I was like what does that have to do w/ the way she felt about u and how dare u make her feel bad becuz of something she had courage enough to share w/ you!!
See I am learning, I've only had a REAL relationship w/ my ex and I thought it was a good thing to talk about any and everything, but as I mature I see that is not always the case. Some things are better left unsaid.

Aint that the truth. I learned my lesson the hard way. mad.gif

A little chuckle to share. Enjoy good.gif

The bride tells her husband, ' Honey,

you know I'm a virgin and I don't
know anything about sex. Can you
explain it to me first?'
With a SMILE on his face caringly touching her in places, he says 'OK, Sweetheart. Putting it simply, we will call your private place 'the prison' and call my private thing 'the prisoner' . So what we do is PPP - P ut the Prisoner in P rison . And the rule is that in prison the prisoner does not just lie down there, he really has to work.'
And then they made heated passionate love for the first time.
Afterwards, the guy is lying face up on the bed, panting but smiling with satisfaction.
Nudging him, his bride giggles, 'Honey the prisoner seems to have escaped.'
Turning on his side, he smiles. 'Then we will have to re-imprison him.'
After the second time they spent, the guy reaches for his cigarettes but the girl, thoroughly enjoying the new experience of making love, gives him a suggestive smile, 'Honey, the prisoner is out again!'
The man rises to the occasion, but with the unsteady legs of a recently born foal.
Afterwards, he lays back on the bed, totally exhausted. She nudges him and says, 'Honey, the prisoner escaped again.'
Limply turning his head, He YELLS at her, 'Hey, its not a life sentence , OKAY!!!

Don't you think it is funny how our Jamaican men don't have a problem with using our shower and lotion stuff but men in the States won't go near it. I think it show true self confidence self that they don't let a smell define them!!

That is so true. Whenever I go to Ja, Mike always takes my underarm deodorant (good thing I always bring an extra one whistling.gif ) and uses the razors that I bring. I know Kimmy, dem coulda sey come back in two weeks and bring it. I would have just sent him the moneyto get a new one done--no big deal. I emailed them and they responded in two hours and apologised for the misunderstanding on my part. When Tonya posted that they aske Drew for the second copy I asked about it and they said one copy is enough. I did not realize one was an original and one a copy. Carbon copy at that. They both had Mike's picture, the police seal and original signature on it. Crappy piece of paper. Them claim that June 26 is the eraliest date them have just to drop off a piece of stupid looking papa. mad.gif

See they keep changing things. Like when we went to drop of the DS-230, they told us we didn't need the picutures. I had nicely attached them to the upper left hand corner of the form and the gentleman that took the form said they were not necessary and to bring 4 pictures to the interview. I was also told that while I was outside. Dem need fi mek up dem mind. Tap tell people different tings. Now, when my friend did her K-1 in February they didn't ask her for the NON-IMPIEDMENT form at all. She was cussing because the form was $5500. I told her it's BETTER TO HAVE IT and DON'T NEED IT...than to NEED it and DON'T HAVE IT.

I totally agree with you on this one. Each case is dealt with individually. The packet #4 that I got for Mike was a K-1 packet. Can you imagine that, asking for everyting I already submitted to the NVC and money too. i just kiss my teeth and wonder how they can't get it straight. What If I did not have my head on my bosy and VJ to rely on, I would have panicked.

But without VJ we all would be lost because the embasy try hard to confuse us all.

Ain't this the truth!! PREACH!! I do not know what I'd do if I didn't have VJ. Its like an immigration lawyer extrodinaire and support group all in one!!

Yuh got dat right good.gif
