Question for all you intelligent-might-as-well-be-immigration-lawyers:

Does the K2 Visa follow the same path as the K1? More specifically, I understand until the 2 year marriage anniversary the spouse has a conditional green card and then you have to remove conditions to get the 10 yr card. Is that the same for the child as well - 2 yr card then 10 yr with the parent or does the child get the 10 yr right off the bat?

And since we have been talking bugets, Anthony and I have been working on the next phase of immigration charges (which appear to never end!!!) What was average price for the police certificate?
I already screeched at the price of the non-impediment letter. Just what the heck did I pay for with the $455 filing fee????!!!! blink.gif

Dahling, that $455 is to the US Gov't. yes.gif yes.gif You have to dole out JA$1000 for 21-day service or JA$2000 for 3-day service for the police cetificate and it is good for 6-months, then you have to pay US$80-95 for the medical depending on where you go. Then the airpack fee to deliver the passport with the visa. Then you have to buy the plane ticket, then you have to file to remove conditions/EAD/AP US$1010. headbonk.gif headbonk.gif Girl it does not end wow.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif

girl i haven't bought a regualr bathing suit in so long, i forget where i bought them...sorry can't remember

Girl, I just finished washing and rolling mine. It is darn long my shoulders are hurting from extending them so high. Since I moved from NYC, I haven't found a good hairdresser to do my hair. I tried the Dominicans, but all they know how to do is blowdry your hair. That I don't want. Iam comfortable just washing and rolling and brushing out. I also don't like the commercial products they use, gives me flaky scalp and breaks my hair. I use Mizani products in my hair and even if I take it to them, so don't want to use my products, even when I offer to pay the same.

I just dedicate a half a day to do my hair. I am relaxing now before that two hour sitdown under the drier.

Did you check in Target? Last year they had some cute swimsuits... Also, don't sleep on Kmart, because they had some nice swimsuits with the cover-ups that matched.

They make everything plus sized ugly. I don't wear swimsuits, don't like the beach or immersing myself in any body of water other than my bath-tub. laughing.gif laughing.gif

I have been fuming for a few days now and I just gotta let it out!

Ok, as many of you know I live with my Father and my boys on LI, NY. I have been saving for Ken to come-up and move out...I figured about late June/early July.

WE ASKED KEN'S AUNT (Who lives in the Bronx) if he could stay with her until we save up enough $$ to move out! WE asked her even before we filed..."Of course...you're my sister's son...where else would you stay ray tay tay!!" Love ya'll,

I feel you on that Gill. Maybe when she was promising, so did not expect him to get through. I can't understand us Jmaicans, we do not take care of our own. Also look at the Hatians them, how so much of them pack up in a small apartment or house until each one makes it on their own and then they turn around and help another. We should really take at look at how they live and take a page out of their book.

I really hope she changes her mind, because it will be less stress on you financially. Just keep praying and we have you in our thoughts and prayers.

Much love

My turn to rant!! My husband has been talking about getting a I-Phone for a while, he has a phone and really doesn't need it other than the fact that he's into the whole style thing mad.gif We've gone back and forth about it for months now. Well today he calls me and tells me that he has something for me and to call him when I'm on my way home from work so he can be there when I get home cause he wanted to spend some time with me before he goes to his second job... Need I say I burned the freeway down getting home devil.gif I get here before him he comes in and gives me some money and tells me to pay off my credit card with it and spend the rest on myself. Then he tells me that one of his friends ordered a I-Phone for him... Next thing I know I see him pugging it in to charge ohmy.gif diablo.gif My whole mood changed to pissed off!!! The way he said it to me ws like it was on order, not that he had gotten one! I felt like tha was one of those quiet as kept things! I told him if you can have a I-Phone then I can have a new purse!! I'm sure you guys are wondering WHY I got mad about it....

Girl, I am here watching a movie with my son and his girl, just wishing Mike was here with us.

Anyway, I feel youon that relationaship issue with your daughter and her father. He has to remember that a kind word turneth away wrath and he has to be careful how he "reprimands" her. The JA way isn't always the best way. You have to also make sure you are not sending her the wrong message. You both have to be united in the way you both treat her. When he reprimands her and she runs to you be careful what is said and your reaction to whatever happened. Try to talk to him and you both come to an agreement about punishment.

He also has to remember that she is a little girl and has the house as her playground. You both have to designate play area and time and clen up time and do it with her. He can't expect her to learn by herself. Be patient with him. Even though most JA men have kids back home, they are not really involved in their lives, it is left up to the woman especially if they are not married and living together. So, this might be new for him.

No. She, they have been living with the mother she now has her own place and wants help lighting the place.

She is using the daughter to get things from your husband. She knows that he will not deny his daughter anything, that is why she is asking. Is she working or doesn't she have a man?

I feel mean today too. I hate when women use their children as pawns to get what they want from a man. Why not let him do what he wants to do for his daughter without asking. If he is a good man he will know what his reponsibilities are. Not your man per se but men in general.

Hi everyone,

I would like to thank everyone again for welcoming me to this board a month ago when I joined. I haven't been on much due to being extremely busy at work and trying to put together my K1 petition, oh yea and when I'm not doing that, I'm always sleeping smile.gif I'm almost done with the application and I'm planning to send it early next week, just waiting on the G-325A from my SO and I have to take my passport pic.

Anyway, wanted to say congrats to the ladies who got approved! must be a big relief to say the least. I've just caught up with the last few pages and saw the two reports on the embassy experience, now I'm a little worried and was hoping to get some clarification:

1) I was told the fiancee was not required to be with the SO at the interview. I'm thinking if we get lucky enough, and lets say my SO gets an interview when I'm in my third trimester and really pregnant and can't travel to go to the interview with him, will this be held against him? If the interview is some time after I give birth, I def. plan to be there.

2) The G325A form asks for employment history for last 5 years. My SO was attending UWI until this last semester when he was forced to take a leave cause he couldn't afford tuition, when he did work during this time, it was doing odd jobs and not on the books. He just recently was able to get a legit job. Will this be held against him? Should I put that he was a student in that section, or leave it blank?

3)I've gathered pretty much all of the evidence that we have to prove our relationship including pictures, emails, phone records, and travel itineraries. The problem is when I flew there to see him I did not keep the boarding passes wacko.gif I was thinking of copying the stamps on my passport and putting it together with the email confirmations that I received when I booked my airfare online. Is this enough proof of travel? I don't have prove of hotel receipts b/c my SO paid for the hotel when I visited.

4)Finally, how do I put together all that information? in a binder with tabs? scrapbook?

Thanks!

ps: sorry for the long post.

Welcome back my girl. No need to worry about the long post. We are here for help and support and a long post maight be the only way to make us understand your situation. How are interviews scheduled anyways? Do they set aside certain amount of interview appointments for K-1, K-3, IR-1, CR-1, visitors, working visas? Or do they just randomly schedule them, as the applications are approved? Any thoughts or ideas on this for you experienced ones?

Kimmy you are officially invited to come to my yard and experience the "real" bush laughing.gif The stuff we don't have will amaze you as well as the weird things we do have. There is a very large hippy/granola/au natural group here and you can get some of the weirdest things ever. But ask about pumpkin and people look at you crazy wacko.gif

When I can't get the JA pumpkin, I use the American pumpkin in my soup. Taste the same to me. good.gif

Anyone in the MD/DC/VA going to Crossroads this weekend? I think I'm going on Friday or Saturday because I need to get out...

Sunny, we need to hook up and do this one weekend, but I have a lot of family here from Jamaica that will stay with me for the next 5 weeks (LORD HELP ME)...girl pray that I don't kill one of them. My grandaunt got up 4 o'clock this morning making fritters and cooked my LUNCH. (I appreciate it), but....she wakes me at 4:30 asking me where is the clothes I'm wearing to work. So, I showed a blue pantsuit, she says, oh, no my baby-- u can't wear pants to work, what will they think. I said auntie it's 2008, I love, go back in the kitchen and finish cooking. She's 86 and I love her so much. Now, I have to find her some fish net sockings. She going to a function at Martin's Crosswind on Saturday. I haven't been able to find any. Any suggestions?

Is Auntie big or small?

You can get fishnets at Lane Bryant... or Kohl's I think.
Try Macy's or JC Penney... any big dept store should have the nice ones.

Try Wal-mart. They have lots of stocking selections.

Hey girl, how MD treating you? Suppose to be almost 70 degrees tomorrow and I can't wait. I'd love to hang out a CC, I just have a crazy scheduled right now and family in town. I just told my mom to try walmart. My grandaunt called my dad and ask him to start up the grill. Now, she's outside frying fish. I'm going to gain so much weight crying.gif

Girl, enjoy it. I wish I had family visiting me and making those Ja meals that I have not had in years. whistling.gif

That's great Claire, what did the two of you do? You know I remember what I did for my 18th birtday and I can't remember what I did yesterday. Now, explain that.

She got her learner's permit and we went out to Red Lobsters'. The went shopping for some thiings she wanted. I bought her a nice cake and some baloons and took them to her dorm this morning. She did not really want to do anything. She wants a car, but I can't get that right now. I am looking for an affordable one right now.

1luv...This is real life..no poking fun here

Ur hubby knows that reading and writing is something he wants to achieve so he is doing what is necessary. I forget who said but some men DO NOT care to ever learn and they are ok with that. Is it that they "think" learning to read and write will get them no further than where they r right now ?

i agree with that....and i think there is more too it as well...i know for mike he was ashamed that he could not read or write that well....and there for did NOT want to get help because he felt like he was the only person in the US with this issue....i explained time and time again he is so not the only person with this issue....still he didn't want to believe me and got a ok job...stocking shelves which is fine...happy for him to have that job....BUT he doesn't want to look for a better job or a second job because that would mean more paperwork....

This is where it gets to be a problem for me. He's holding himself back cause his mind is not free....not because someone tells him he can't do it.

and it is aproblem for me as well....i want to drill a hole into his thick head and put some sense into him....it really bothers me....

Nans, this is a very tricky situation. You have to thread gently. Do not push too hard or else you will never get him to try. Just talk about it and not get upset when you do. I know it is fraustrating but you can't give up.

My ex (the barber) was very smart (street) could read and write but could not hold a conversation in public. You know how it is in a Jaamican barber shop. That is all the conversation he wanted to have. When he moved to NC with me, he claimed he could not get a job but I think he was afraid to actually go on an interview for fear ne would not be able to handle it. I was patient with him but he decided to go back to NYC back to his old barber shop where he was comfortable hanging out with the guys. mad.gif mad.gif

Yardie,

Heck yeah I'd be ok! If he is getting the job done by supporting his family and happy I would LOVE that! Thats what life is all about. When I write on here, i write my OWN thoughts not what society says I should think, so I truly don't see those jobs as menial. i for one want to be barefoot and pregant and would love for my man to support me. I want to move from the states an live a carefree life somewhere else. i don't place to much emphasis on the "job" that you have cause i wasn't born to live life working, I want to live life living and that has always been my goal. i need a man who has that same dream...and I beileve Evan does.

I dated a guy who made about $80K and was up for promotion. He was a smart, good looking guy, and had drive, BUT he also didn't share the same goals as me....to be barefoot pregnant and living on some little island somewhere...haha. he would have rather I stay working after haivn a baby and get a nanny.....oh no! He already makes $80K and I still need to work...his drive was all about the money...not about a good life and enjoying your family and kids. He would never have liked the idea that I just want to be a Carni or something, cause to him, he had to have the perfect wife, 2 kids, hot car, exectutive job, and big house. So he needed his wife to work work work to support this dream. Now thats ambition and drive, but it doesnt actually equate to happiness for us as a couple.

That was my ex to a T

Well I have been scanning through what has bee said and I wanna put in my likkle 2 cents. I just dont want anyone to laff and make fun of what I am abt to say. I am a college graduate and my hubby well lets put it, he cannot read and write so well. I love and respect him with all my heart, and this has never been a problem to me and I havent loved hima any less. He is enrolled in a school where he starts out with the basics and then he will work his way up. HE works in a factory and I work in a hospital. Let me tell you, he is very intellegent and nobody can fool him. HE makes fun of me that I am "book smart", but he is "street smart"

No one here will make fun of you. Your hubby is ambitious and like he says, he has street smarts. He is at least trying to better himself. Him not being able to read and write does not make him the man who he is or the man you fell in love with. I am sure one day you are gonna come back on here announcing very proudly his achievements. Good luck good.gif good.gif

It's just a subject i hate b/c ppl judge my relationship all the time..they assume that my husband has no idea b/c i'm the college grad and doing somthing for herself kinda gal and "should" be with a man that is choking himself with a tie just b/c of that..so basicly they're saying i'm "better" than my husband...so u never know what's the meaning of the book until u read it...unless u "judge" by reading from the back smile.gif I find ppl that force each other into these so called professional lives end up being miserable when they grow old if they get there..

OK JG ..dats it mi come off di soap box b4 mi slip laughing.gif

Kimmy you have made some very valid points today and I applaud you for that. As long as the man is educated, does not mean he has to be a professional wearing a suit and tie. We have to be supportive of each other and not try to change the other person into what they are not or weren't when the relationship started. good.gif good.gif

Kimmy.....they are talking about a K-1. With a K-1, you marry in the US, file for AOS, receive a 2 year conditional green card. 90 days before the expiration date, up to the expiration date, you can then file for the 10 year green cared. That is called lifting of conditions.

Hi Everyone, Hope everyone had a great weekend and made it through Monday ok.

I have a question - need some opinions.

I am putting together all the papers for Louis to bring to interview. I went through all my tax papers and have from 2002 - 2007 with 2005 gone missing!!?? I can't imagine where it has gone to (the W2). I have moved several times so it could be in a box in storage somewhere - who knows!!??
So I asked my employer for a new one and they say "it could take some time to get a copy" ...

What would you do? I have the paperwork from H&R Block - its just the actual W2 that I am missing. I have been working for the same company for over 10 years and have a letter from them saying that. (The affidavit letter).

Do you think this W2 is something I absolutey have to have?

Thanks!
Cat

Cat, don't panic. Call the IRS anf order your tax transcripts. You do not need to bring a copy of the actual tax return and W-2 if you have the transcripts. They are more concise and that is what I sent with my AOS. Go to the IRS website and get the number and call them. You usually get it within 2 weeks or less. good.gif good.gif
