IndiaCR1 Visa interview at New Delhi without medical

Hi Guys,

So I am in a kind of quandary. After frantically refresing New Delhi visa interview page last week, today morning it changed to show the May 2011 interview schedules. Now I have my CR1 visa interview scheduled for 4th May (yes, day after tomorrow). On top of that we have also not recieved any letter so far from the embassy. So I am without an interview letter and so also haven't done my medical tests yet. I have written to the consular section for a letter by email.

Now my questions:

1. Has anyone been in this situation, and if yes, how did you manage?
2. Can you appear for an interview without a medical? the visa being conditional on the outcome?
3. What if you have to reschedule the interview? Does it automatically go to next month or you can be accomodated
within the same month?

Any insights on the issue are welcome.

He can come here, but the more he has left to do the more it will cost to get through AOS..

Hi Everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knows how many vaccinations are needed before my fiance can enter the U.S.? He just passed his interview and he's waiting to pick up his visa this Thursday.

We both decided that it's best that he came over as soon as he can, but he only had 1 round of vaccination which was sometime in April before his interview...

My question is, can he come to the U.S. and have the other vaccinations done in the states...OR he must have his vaccinations done in Vietnam before he can enter the U.S. :help:

Also, if he needs to have his 2nd round of vaccination done in Vietnam, is there anyway that he can do it sooner than June, since that's the date that Cho Ray supposedly schedule for his 2nd round of vaccination. Thanks for you input!

You don't need anything more. At the medical exam they gave you all the shots you needed. If you got a shot that is part of a series you can get the rest of the series once you get in the USA. Or not if you don't want to. No one keeps track of your vaccinations after the interview to make sure you get everything.

I am new to this. I received the website from a friend of mine who married a Turkish man. She said this site helped her tremendously so I hope it will do the same for me. He thinks the reason he was denied is not because they know he was there illegally but because he lied and said he never applied for a visa before. Which he did in 1999 and was also denied then, he believes because he had no binding ties in Brazil. Presumably he was probably at risk of trying to stay in the US. I am wondering what we should do? Is there a way to find out if he was banned for 10 years without causing ourselves more pain? I'm worried he does have a 10 year ban and that is why he was denied. But we have a friend who also was in the US living with his whole family illegally for 7 years they all left and came back to Brazil on their own not deported. The children were in school,had drivers license etc and they were recently given tourist visas. Hope this makes sense because I'm totally confused myself. Any help will be appreciated.



This process is very difficult and your situation seems somewhat complex. You might want to consider hiring a good immigration lawyer especially considering your uncertainty of of why he was denied and if he is banned. If I were in your shoes I would not chance it and would get a lawyer. If you make a mistake you risk getting a denial or worse a permanent ban. A lawyer may be expensive but no where near as expensive as the cost of the process and the time spent especially if you are denied. Whatever you choose to do good luck. good.gif

I have my interview on April 2 in Lima, Peru. My husband and I have yet to receive any documents from the embassy. Is this normal? I read there was a packet 3 and a packet 4. So I am really concerned that we have not received anything and there is only a few days until the interview.

Can someone tell me if this is normal and I am freaking out for nothing? Or am I in trouble?

The things I sent USPS never arrived....they are lost somewhere in Serpost. DHL has worked perfectly...2-4 days...$100 for 4lbs...from here to Peru. From Peru to here was $50 for an envelope with documents.



I agree don't use USPS. None of the smaller things letters and post cards arrived. Most of my larger packages arrived, but sometimes my relatives had to go to inquire about the package at serpost. Use DHL or UPS its more expensive but you can track your packages and personally I would rather pay more and be sure the documents got where I needed them to go.

Thanks again to all of you for helping me with this....I would have NEVER imagined, so many people are going through the same thing !!!
Last night I told him about all the advice I have received here and we are both open to either one of the 2 options:
1. K-1 (in which case, when I go in Sept, I will gather the proof of having been with him.)
or
2. CR1 (Spousal visa...I hope I got this right, I feel so overwhelmed by the lingo) - in which case we will get married in September while I am there.

Now my other question, if you would be so kind as to answer me is this:
Does either or both of the visa's require that I return to Peru after September for anything??? This may possibly be a deciding factor, because it is not easy for me to travel to Peru.
In other words, do I have to be present for the interview, for instance ???

Also one more thing, if I wanted to speak to someone in person, who should I be calling? The American Embassy in Peru or the Peruvian Embassy in Miami...I know it sounds funny but not quite sure about this??

Neither visa would require you to return to Peru. Of course it looks better if you make trips during the process but it's not required. Your boyfriend will need to mail you papers through out the process. You do not have to be their for the interview, but you can go if you want. I went for moral support for my husband.

What kind of information do you need? If you want to get information about CR-1 and K-1 then you can make an infopass appointment. I don't know how much they will tell you before they tell you to consult a lawyer for options, but they can advise about the different forms. If you want information on what documents to bring to Peru then you can call your local Peruvian consulate.

Well if you don't want to get married while in Peru in September then quickest way to start the process would be a K-1. But you will have to deal with immigration once he gets to the US and again in two years. I think CR-1 is a little easier because it's cheaper and you don't have to deal with immigration until 2 years after he gets in the USA. On the bright side looks like you will have plenty of proof!

I got married in 2008 so unless things have changed you will need something else. Have your fiancee go to the district you plan to get married and ask what papers you need. I know I needed my birth certificate and I had to do a search of marriage records in my state to prove that I am not married. I then had to take the documents to the consulate in Atlanta for them to certify them (I don't remember the term they used). My husband also had to post an announcement in the paper in Lima. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately this is common for the Lima Embassy. Contact jm&mcs. They had a similar experience about 5 years ago. He is about 20 years younger than her and they gave them a terribly hard time at the interview. Lucky she was there with him and they just stuck to their guns and eventually walked away with the visa. As far as I know they are still happily married.

If I was in your shoes I would bring proof my mother's illness. Perhaps a letter from her doctor stating she needs personal care. Letters from family and friends. The fact that you have not seen each other in 18 months compounds the age issue. When you go in there have everything with you to prove your marriage is real: phone records, letters, pictures, affidavits, receipts for sending funds to him. You have to prove that even though you have not seen each other in 18 months that you are still very much a couple. You will both be taken two separate rooms where they will grill you. Make sure your prepared because they will try to break you.

Check my info below for my timeline. What will happen at the interview depends on a lot of factors such as age of couple, circumstances of the relationship, and visa. My husbands interview was very easy although I had a ton of proof and our case was not complicated. They interviewed him in spanish. Asking him basic questions. The only things they asked me were about my employment, why my family was not at the wedding, and for my taxes (our interview was in March so they wanted that years taxes even though they were not due yet). They told us he was approved and we asked to pick up our visa at DHL. We picked it up the next day.

The interviewer asked which language my husband wanted to be interviewed in he responded Spanish. I do not speak Spanish so she switched back to English to give us the good news.
