My inlaws have 2 beagles and in their old age have gotten really yappy. Their neighbors in Tampa rightfully complained, what they ended up doing was bought this collar from amazan that sprays citronella when they bark! Much better than being shocked! After awhile they didnt even need to put any citronella in the device, just having the collar one, was enough

Check out what your State has. Some have rental protection agencies! I know VA does as I gave it to some renters in our condo unit! The owner wasn't goin gto give back their security deposit because-----the people above them had a water leak, which of course the water ended up in their unit! They had no personal insurance AND the owner didnt have any insurance. So he had to pay the $1000 condo assoc insurance deductible!! so being the jerk that he is, he told them he wasn't going to give them thier security deposit back! Of course he knew that they were illegally in the USA, so he took advantage of them! jerk!

one should phone around to other insurance co. when I moved here, I think ours actually went down.

Sometimes with ATM cards, gas stations put like a $50 hold on your card, and you get that back after a few days! i know some gas stations put stickers on the pumps stating that they do not do that!!

I just love the fact that when I called up Lowes to get a quote for custom made sliding mirror doors (naturally, none of our door frames are regular size bec this house is over 100 years old...), I get a 10 minute scolding about asking these questions over the phone... when I just wanted to get an idea of how much things cost and do not intend to buy doors over the phone.

I called lowes last week for a quote for a water heater for my brother n law! Dude said to give him my phone # and he would call me back in 2 minutes as he just had to check the stock--Never call me back, lol

CanadaHaven't got my passport back from Montreal since interview

I'm pretty sure a a supervisor looks it over again after the interview is complete!   Chances are extremely high if your from a country that doesn't exactly get along with the USA, one is going to go into Additional processing. And most will say not to book travel, until the visa is in ur hands.....Best of luck

Something I would not worry about since it is a CDN company.....its not as if your taking a job away from An American...USA doesnt own the internet....but thats just my opinion

CanadaPOE flying from Montreal Pierre Trudeau (YUL)

Yep, she wil go through USA immigration in Montreal..all her visa processing will be down in MTL....Once she gets on the plane, thats it, nothing else to do in the USA, except pick up her luggage.

Majority of flights from Canada to the USA--one pre-clears in Canada, only a few that 1 doesn't--such as Saskatoon.  Best of luck

Canadacanadian debt collectors

In that case, I would just say, listen I have talked to my lawyer, and I know there is no way you can garnish my wages, and I have no plans to ever moving back to Canada, so if you want your money  back, your going to have to come up with some sort of repayment plan that is in the best interest for the both of us.  If you can't do this, let me talk to your supervisor!   best of luck

CanadaInterview today: approved! Review of Montreal Consulate

Many show up early, so they get a lower ticket #, as that usually (not always) means you get seen faster, thus completed at the consulate faster.

Congrats!!  You were almost that 0.1%,lol  As you know--bring copies of all that you submitted!!   One doesn't need a ton of evidence, but copies of stuff you submitted is probably a must!!  I'm sure things get mixed up quite often, hell my Spanish teacher has other peoples stuff mixed into my folder, lol

CanadaDriving across the border

I am starting to wonder if it isnt better to jsut have movers do it for me.  I called U-haul and it will be over $3000, up front.  Where as I can have a mover do it, for almost the same and what I would spend on hotel and food and gas, I can get a flight down.  It floored me how much a 1 way truck rental is.  What a rip off.

I got about 10 mpg for gas,  I think my gas cost was close to what the rental was from NS to DC,lol   I like to drive, so for me, thats what I wanted to do!!  back in 2011 I drove from DC to Saskatoon, Calgary, kamloops, back to Saskatoon, then back to DC,lol

The quote u get online at Uhaul.com should be the same as what you got on the phone--so double check it. I went to an actual Uhaul franchise at first--and his quote was exactly as it was online.  And don't forget about insurance.  Sometimes your personal car insurance may cover it-----but it may  not--especially it being  a moving truck.  Same goes with your credit card, as soem say they cover rental cars---but thats the basic rental cars--not trucks, etc etc!!  best of luck

CanadaDriving across the border

I was in a U-haul truck.....I made a MS office document--table format!  Had headings like--Item, serial # if applicable, approx value (prob not required)   Kept it simple..did no tlist every single item, but grouped things together.  Customs guy barely even looked at it...but best to have something just in case they do care.  For my own use--I labelled the boxes

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-09-17 11:55:00
CanadaDriving across the border

If you go with Uhaul--(That is what I used)  ensure you go thoroughly over the truck--Check all fluid levels--tire psi--as Uhaul as a record of not keeping up with their maintenance.  I had no problems with my truck, it was one of the bigger ones, and I achieved around 10 mpg with it, then again, I was not exactly easy on the gas peddle, lol

CanadaWorking in Canada and living in the US

If people are not sure...they usually do not post.  When you apply for citizenship there is a part on the form where you have to put down ALL visits out of the USA---for 24 hours or longer(hope u have been keeping track).  And if they deem that you have been out of the USA, more than you have been in it, then one may run into problems. In this case I would "think" it may not be a huge deal as you will not have been doing it for that long, only a few months.  There are a fair # of green holders that still commute to Canada daily, but they usually return to the USA after work.  And as part of having a Greencard, you are expected to be spending the majority of your time in the USA, and again, you probably have been up to this point, so its only a short amount of time. Just my 2 cents, which really means nothing, lol

I should say a Cdn citizen can bring a rental vehicle into the USA, BUT one has to have some sort of status in the USA...Once u get your green card you can...but of course that doesnt help u out right now,lol.........

CanadaOntario to the USA - Cheapest moving suggestions

So I just checked, now that I disovered how to get a flat rate from the U-Haul Website: picking up the U-Haul in Buffalo setting it as a Buffalo to Atlanta trip saves me $600. Holy moly!

And to be able to do that--the USA citizen has to pick up the truck--the Cdn partner can not

CanadaOntario to the USA - Cheapest moving suggestions

I just did a quick estimate on the UHaul site London to Wilmington NC (it automatically gave 5 days of use so that may not be true...I chose a Thurs pick-up)- cheapest is a 10' truck was $1744.(mostly due to the number of days of use) . 14' was $1822

Pick-ups and cargo vans were not available for that type of travel

Yep--not all Uhaul vehicles are allowed to cross borders, or be dropped off at other locations

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-09-24 15:43:00
CanadaOntario to the USA - Cheapest moving suggestions

What you see is the daily rate. So for a pickup truck, it's a daily rate of $19.95 which is in big bold letters, and the find print says "plus $0.49/kilometer"

As long as you have double checked--as local moves vs long distance moves ie not returning the truck to the same location, is usually different

Not sure why you keep mentioning paying per km with Uhual---I never did back in 2004---and when I goto the Uhaul webpage, its a flat rate, and u get so many miles with that rate.  The price one pays when moving to the USA is different than what you would be paying for a local move.  You can get a quote right online at their webpage

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-09-24 12:46:00
CanadaOntario to the USA - Cheapest moving suggestions

You can go online at Uhail and get a quote------ rates I see are a lot different-----if you can rent it out of the USA--may be cheaper and then you have more options such as Penske.    Back in 2004 I used Uhaul, was around $800 from Greenwood NS to DC.  Only obtained around 10mpg--I had a 14 or 17 foot truck. Ensure you really check it over before you accept it.

Canadacan i visit?

i agree. be very very careful.

they are going to give you a hard time.

expect to provide proof of all of our ties to canada - bank statements, lease/mortgage, employer letter / recent pay stubs, letter from family if u are staying with them, etc. remember, this burden of proof is on you.

also, if you are denied entry  - it can negatively affect your case and they WILL ask you about it in your interview.

i'm sorry- best of luck,

Some have been denied entry and it depends of course for what reason, and if it is just for lack of evidence, it is not going to affect ur interview. If one gets BANNED, a ttl different story. Huge difference between a BAN and a denied entry.

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-10-05 11:33:00
Canadacan i visit?

All comes down to the POE officer.  As mentioned above others have been denied entry--came back with increased evidence and got in.  Having Immigration paperwork with you is very good as it displays you are aware of the law and doing it the right way.
