When I was doing our Taxes with turbo tax--it even asked if I had RRSP's!! I know that wasnt the case a few yrs back.

I would think a program Like Turbotax could easily handle that

So we went to H&R block tonight to get our taxes done, thinking that someone would be knowledgable in canada/us taxes. All the people working in the office tonight had NO clue what forms to fill in for my canadian income. So now I am not sure if I want them to do my taxes in case they mess them up...UGH!

Back when I first moved here we went to H&R Block--they set me up with their Cdn/USA tax specialist---and he was clueless! I thanked him for his time and left. There is a whole thread here on taxes and check out
http://forums.serbin...1cf435f95bf0aa7

My last yr that I filled out cdn taxes I used an online Cdn tax program, was very easy, can't recall the name of it though, but i don't think their are that many programs and I'm sure they all do a very good job. I could e-file--had to print it off and mail it in back in 2005

Not a vent but an update to a vent -

Derek finally had his rescheduled interview this morning and took the oath ceremony less than a half hour later. :) And I have to give a huge shout out to the employees at the USCIS office at Fairfax, VA. After years of being confused, frustrated, and generally pissed off by USCIS, these guys really bent over backward to help Derek out today. They even gave him his own private oath ceremony right after the interview. We were in and out in just about an hour! Though security did confiscate my tweezers, lol.

Now I can officially tell the rest of USCIS to kiss my ####.

Congrats!! I finally got around this past weekend to shredding every piece of paperwork I could find that dealt with immigration, lol Highly recommend the fellowes W11C shredder! Not a single jam yet! Only downfall is the small collection basket!

Posted this already in the Citizenship General Forum but thought it was more appropriate to the Vent thread.

Derek applied for citizenship back in early August and it took months to get an interview. Today was supposed to be the big day. We got the the Washington, DC office in Fairfax, VA about an hour early and just as we arrived so did the fire department and police. Turned out to be some sort of threat and everybody had been told to leave the building. We waited until Homeland Security arrived to sweep the building with their dogs but a USCIS staff member said that he doubted the building would reopen anytime soon and recommended that we leave and have the interview rescheduled. So instead of standing around in the cold with no guarantee of being interviewed, we did just that. Have no idea when they can fit Derek in again but are hoping in the next month or so. Argh.:crying:

Thats sucks!! After my interview---i had to wait for my oath ceremony----as their was a file they needed to look at??? No clue what it was and never will, but the file had to come from their central office (in another state)I think I had the oath ceremeony in approx another month, so wasnt too long.

My dad always stated a 3 goal lead is the hardest to defend---teams tend to relax--go into a defensive posture, and WHAMMO, other team scores a goal, gains momentum and lights out! He actually stated the Russians would come back--of course he was hoping he would be wrong! Yep a huge disappointment, but oh well!

Ya some cats urine can be really strong. We have 2 cats and I clean the cat little multiple times a day! Constantly checking it! Ya those automatic cat litters can be nice, but some do not have a great container to hold the "mess" sure the litter is clean, but the mess is still there!!

I ain't no pop!! lol Some people are just clueless, simple as that! if you say nothing, it will just continue!! The other person has no clue that one is ticked! One has to be tactful and polite in a non-threatening manner. So maybe its better on a 1-1, then her getting grouped up on--but have the backing of the others!! "Myself, jill, and alexia have found it very difficult blah blah blah we realize your on ur own for the 1st time, blah blah blah, but were all finding it difficult to sleep/study!!" lol It can be done in a polite manner!! so I have been trying to find a pair of swim trunks for the hubster.. I looked at Walamrt and couldn't find any and was told they went on clearance.. umm, it is the middle of August in Los Angles, I am sure people still want to buy swimwear .. I looked at Kmart and they did have some there but all the ones that he would wear were the wrong colour or size... grrr... I did look online and they did have some there but the shipping was almost as much as the trunks :P...

I am going to check out Ross and Marshall's today

u have a Kohls close by?? They have very good prices and usually have a large clearance section! And if u sign up (free) they usually email u a discount coupon!! Took a few days for mine to arrive!!

PixelUlu- Sorry to hear about your situation regarding your in-laws....:(
And yes, as grown-ups and as married persons you and your husband are entitled to your own lives away from the parents...
There is no law and/or legal contract that says that one is obligated and required to support and/or otherwise help their parents....
So sorry, they can't use that 'you owe us' excuse in any way, shape, or form....
It would never hold up in court or otherwise!
Adult children have a right to their own lives....Without their parents' interference..
It's one thing if the children want to visit and help their parents, out of their own free will (which is fine), but it is another if they are 'forced' to do so, which is wrong in all ways....
Part of it has to do with their insecurities in terms of 'letting their children go/grow up'...
And until they can admit and/or come to terms with that, sad to say, the adult children are the ones that are going to have to stand up for themselves and do what they think is right for them in their lives.....
Both sides should have to feel like they want to communicate with each other, and not be forced to do such out of fear, obligation, or otherwise.....
If it makes you feel any better, we went through something similar too, with both sides of the family....
Lol...In one scenario, we ended up not contacting that side of the family ever again....(yes, total disownment...there was no room for compromising in that situation...)
In the other scenario, we ended up still contacting them for visits only, but will not deal with anything more than that....(some kind of compromise, I suppose...for example, we would go for visits only, but not help with legal/medical/financial, etc. matters....they would have to find that help elsewhere instead....)
PM me if you need some more info about the specifics....It's not pretty...lol...but yeah I can share with you privately if you want...
Hope this helps. Regardless, I hope you do get this sorted out and reach some sort of compromise too. Good luck with the rest of your journey as well...
Ant

Actually there is a LAW (in Canada) that states that 1 has to look after their parents!! It is a law that is rarely ever enforced/used!! There is a case in BC right now where a mom (father passed away) is trying to get her kids to pay her monthly support!! The kicker is--she was a terrible mom--pretty much abandoned her kids, and most of them have had no contact with her!! No wout of the blue she wants support and by law she can be entitled to it. read it in the newspaper a few weeks back. Nothing to do with the op current situation, but found it interesting!!

Texas does not have state tax. Most cities and counties here make money by handing out tickets. My husband got two tickets in one month from the same cop who routinely sits outside his office to pull people over. He got his first ticket for speeding up a ramp that was joining a freeway. And the second ticket was for going 63mph on a 60mph zone. We were looking for a way to get the tickets dismissed and accidentally found this. I have also gone to court and bargained a $100 parking fine, and ended up paying $30 in the end. The system in Texas is really weird.

Im sure it works that way in Victoria bc and in Virginia! I was told if the cop does not show up to court, the judge can postpone it or just throw it out!!

Thank you for the link! Perhaps one day we will be able to buy in bulk and can use that provider. :D

We're having to go through a local vet in order to get 2 Comfortis tablets for our dogs, costing roughly $30. I've yet to find a vet here who sells Program tablets individually which would make sense because Program is half the cost of Comfortis. They'd not be able to turn as big a profit with Program as they can with Comfortis. :(

depends on how big ur dog is, the price on that site ranges from $47 to $58 for 6 tabs of Comfortis

Pffft! I just turned 40!!! And this is was my VERY first driving test and yes, I plan on going back ASAP to get it done -- I'll be the wiser next time, that's for sure -- I am a big baby when it comes to humiliation. i have another date scheduled but I'm going to try and find one that's sooner so I can just get this thing done. it's so awful, it's not like I didn't know what I was doing, it just didn't seem to make sense. Like I said, I'll be wary next time.

Thanks for the encouragement -- I'll just keep on plugging away. Good thing my husband was playing his patience cards today.

Thanks Kimbear *hugs* I appreciate that. Honestly.

And thanks Sprail. I suggested that he talk to some people on Monday (everyone important to talk to about it happened to be out of the office this afternoon... UGH... what a way to spend the weekend). I'm just also upset that no one told him he was actually going for a job interview. He didn't prepare, was caught off guard, and didn't interview as well as he could have had he known, so he's not feeling very confident about it. sigh. Seriously, I can't believe this #######. I also had some frustrating personal news this morning that I won't get into cause it's just whiny. .. but yeah.

OH, and then on the way home from getting my husband at work I watched a squirrel get hit by a car (not us, the guy behind us). :( So... that was great.
