If you do a search you will find many posts about the time lines people have received their SSN and greencards! I received my Green card about 3 weeks after entry. SSN card didnt arrive, and after about a month I went to the office and reapplied, came in the mail a week later. Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Wife questions
I went the K3 route took overall 8 months. she cannot come into the US while it is being processed. There is no quick way to do anything with these pple ! she will be doing it in Vancouver I was in Edmonton and I went to Vancouver. Hope this helps.

Since the USA citizen is residing in Canada, they can possibly DCF

Regarding your husband travelling to the USA, IT IS still possible to visit. This topic has been covered numerous times here on VJ and what it comes down to is the POE officer!! Yes some have been denied entry while others have not. I travelled from DC monthly while the process was ongoing and never had 1 single problem, but that my experience. Ensure he was proof of ties to canada (employer letter, apartment lease, return ticket, etc)

I'm sure DCF is much faster, i thought I read on here that it took some one 3 months. there is a Cdn section the DCF forum, you might find your answer there. When 1 DCF I believe its either cr-1 or ir-1 (no K3) and if that is the case, Montreal is the only place that conducts the interview!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHelp
No need to post question in multiple areas. If you enter on a K3, you can then adjust status, no requirement to go back to Cairo for cr-1 interview. Some people do go back for the cr-1 as it can be less paperwork. Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTwo kinda lame questions...
I just answered their questions and that was it. Didnt give up any more info. if they asked If I was on business or pleasure, i stated Pleasure and returning on such a such date and that was about it. I was never asked to show evidnece(i had it with me) and I never told them I was in the process of getting my cr-1 visa!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTwo kinda lame questions...
Majority of Canadian use the RCMP. At 1 time they were pretty much the only ones that had the Canadian wide search capability. Now Many City police forces have it as well. Forget the actual name of the system, but it has to be CANADA WIDE. in the GTA you use the Commisionaires!! Not sure how long it takes, but if you do a search, I'm sure you will find that info. many people forget all about the search button!! best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTwo kinda lame questions...
Do a search!!!! This topic of us Canadian visiting the USA while the process is ongoing comes up every week!!

Yes he could be denied entry. Some do, some do not. Many like myself never had a problem visiting the USA. I travvled monthly to DC and not one problem. Ensure one has ties to Canada, ie letter from employer, return ticket home, apartment lease. But what it pretty much boils down tois the POE officer. If he has any feeling he may stay illegally, he may deny him entry. if the POE officer is having a bad day, he may deny him, lol! Ensure one has a back up plan in case he does get denied entry!! Its not that big of a deal, just a pain in the butt!! Answer the officers questions honestly, but do not "add" to your answer!! Do not travel with lots of baggage and do not have any resumes in your possesion! As stated earlier, some have problems, some do not!! If you do a searcj, you should find lots of info

Regarding the police check. In the Greater Toronto area, you need to see the Commisionaires. http://www.commissionaires.ca/
If he has never had a criminal record,he only requires the Canada wide back ground check. If he has had a criminal record he wil lmost likely require fingerprinting rcmp.ca for info. The back ground check doesnt take long. but if he requires fingerprinting that can take awhile (like up to 6 months) Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdvice on entering the US
Exactly, dont offer more than you have to, but be honest!! They would normally ask me "business or pleasure"" I would state pleasure and would be returning on such a such date!! I travelled monthly to DC and I never had a problem (just my experience!!!) I didnt travel with a lot of luggage, had apartment lease, letter from employer and return tickets. Ensure one doesnt have any resumes on them in case u get searched. I wouldnt be saying I'm looking for apartments!! More or less it comes to the POE officer, some are more stringent than others.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEAD ?
I assume u filed for cr-1 or ir-1?? if that is the case you need not woory about EAD. Your pretty much able to work as soon as u enter the USA. You just require your SSN, which shouldnt take too long to arrive. Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresinterview in Montreal or Vancouver
Ditto what the others stated, sucks when youhave to tarvel a great deal just foir a 5 minute interview!!! But ALL cr-1, ir-1 goto Montreal. Montreal hands out the Visa the NEXT day around 2 pm, or you can give them a prepaid expresspost envelope. Goto the Canadian forum, and at the top is a thread called ther Canadian clearing house, lot of info regarding hotels in Montreal and other visa stuff.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRecently moved!!!
Howdy all. Been in the USA for nearly two yrs now on a CR-1, yes getting rdy to submit the I-751. We recently bought a condo and have moved in. I sent in the AR-11, does my wife (sponsor) have to send in a I-865 as well? I believe she does, everyone on a cr-1 sends in an I-864, correct? We didnt require a co-sponsor, she made enough$$. Just want to double check, mind as been out of the immigration loop, and now timr to get back into it for the I-751. Thanks, Scott

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow Long does it takes to transfer the case from NVC?
If you talked to NVC they should have been able to tell you the interview date as they are the ones that set the date, not montreal. Phone back to NVc and ask for the date. I would assume Mtl should have ur file now, so one could send an email to them asking.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat do I need to bring for CR1 interview in Montreal?
Take some time and do a search on here and you should be able to find some info. I took evidence in a plastic binder such as pics and travel recipts, but they never asked to look at them. Asked very basic questions as how we met, what my wife does, what my plans in the USA were. Interview was quick, well under 10 minutes and most of that time was the interviewer going over the paperwork. No big bags, purses, or electronics. You go through airport type security. Right off the bat they will ask to see your interview letter. Once in elevator, go to the back, as it opens from that side!! Pick up Visa next day or provide them a pre-paid express postt envelope!! Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresURGENT - MONTREAL
Yeppers, first come first serve sort of. I was first I think (maybe second) but they called other people that were in the same line before me!! I was out of there by 1020. Like Zyggy stated, no longer do they hand out the Visa the same day!! In your case (friday interview) you would have to wait to monday to get the visa!!
Most of the time in the consulate your just sitting around waiting, and waiting!! Interview itself is very quick, mine was well under 10 minutes.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the latest anyone has visted the USA during the Cr-1 process?
I told them nothing!!! lol They would ask if I was there for business or pleasure, I would state pleasure. Would state I was to visit my wife and would return on so a so date. Most of my travels were for 3-5 days, longest was 3.5 weeks (summer holidays) Never packed heavy, just 1 suitcase. Never had to show prrof of ties to canada, but I had them with me. Answer their questions honestly, but dont add to them if you know what I mean. My Poes were Normally Boston or Newark airports (flew out of Halifax) Again depends on the POE official, some can be real tough, others I talked baseball playoffs with, lol

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the latest anyone has visted the USA during the Cr-1 process?
I visted the USA from Canada every month during the process and never had a problem. There doesnt seem to be an exact standard. Some are successfull, some are not. Seems to depend on which Immigration guy interviews you. Probablly also depends on how one conducts them self. If your all nervous, not sounding sure on ur responses, somthing may think that ur up to no good!! I travelled monthly, and if I had to do it agian, I would stil head to the USA. Just have a back up plan in case it doesnt go as planned

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWaiting for Police Certificate From Canada?
If I recall, you had to send in fingerprints, correct?? Been awhile but in the past, people that had to send in fingerprints (most were because they had a criminal record) did take 3-4 months for processing. I recall one that attached a very polite note asking the process to be expedited and it seemed to speed up the process. But this info is just from VJ and no actual experience. On their website it states in excess of 150 days. http://rcmp.ca/crimrec/finger_e.htm I ssume your not a Canadian citizen, but maybe contact the Candian Emabssy in your country and see if they can do anything, all they can do is say no!! Best of luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview at Montreal Conuslate sponsoring spouse's presence good or bad?
I went by myself. Good for support, but in terms of getting the visa, no real advantage. The interview itself takes only minutes in Mtl (normally) I was in and out of the interview in not more than 5 minutes, and most of that was the interviewer going over the paperwork. Was the easist part of the whole process.

I belive mtl has a new process where they mail it out to you. You no longer have the option of coming back next day, UNLESS your residing in the USA on a K3 visa and coming back for the cr-1 interview.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswhat is the difference of IR1 AND CRI VISA??
if one has a cr-1 they can travel out asap as well, (same for a K3 I belive, but i did not go the k3 route). Point I was making was that at the time of the interview a couple may be married for 1 yr 11 months, thus issued a cr-1 visa. By the time he/she crosses the POE and activated the visa, it may be 2 yrs or more, thus from my readings on VJ, they should be issued a IR-1.
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2007-02-09 15:09:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswhat is the difference of IR1 AND CRI VISA??
Yes from my reading on VJ that say u get a cr-1, but by the time you cross the POE and avtivate ur visa, its now been 2 yrs of marriage, you would be elgible for the IR-1 visa, thus a 10 yr greencard. Never bothered to look at the USCIS site, just what others have posted.

Not sure, the others that had MTl approved Visa's seem to get them in a matter of a few days. Just may be one of those random ones they pull aside for further security reviews. Hopefully you hear some info soon.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresApping before marriage ?
It is not a super complictaed procedure, but one must be PATIENT!!!! Two different people can start the same visa process at the same time, at the same service centres, yet finish at different times!!! As well you can phone USCIS and get wrong info!!! Can be frustrating!! Best of luck
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2007-03-05 18:37:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresApping before marriage ?
Thats what we did. On a trip to the USA, we did a court house wedding, then started the Cr-1 paperwork. Never told our families, lol Then later down the road did a family wedding (they thought it was real!!) Back then the process was much quicker, around 6 months in total for us, but seems things have slowed down and taking closer to a yr!! I Visited the USA pretty much every month and never had any hassles. Some people do get questioned a bit more, and some get denied. Just be honest and have proof of ties to canada (letter from employer, lease, bills, etc)

Another option for married couples is the K3 abnd can be a bit faster, but I'm not up to date with that info. Best of luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Check
Suprised you couldnt find it, as its brought up weekly here on vj, lol If you have EVER had a criminal record, you then require fingerprinting. No criminal record = no fingerprinting.

One requires a CANADA WIDE NAME BACKGROUND CHECK. This can be accomplished through your local police force or RCMP. In your case--the Greater toronto area, you need to see the http://www.commissionaires.ca/ all the info is on that site (locations: http://www.fingerpri...locations.html) http://www.fingerpri...m/services.html

Contact them and they can tell you how long it wil take and the fee. Normally its a fairly easy certificate to get. And for Montreal it is valid for ONE yr.
