Being that I left Canada in late 2004..and stil have the "eh"  I sort of take pride after nearly 10 yrs of living in the USA...that I still have the "eh" and people bring it up--oh you must be Canadian!   usually say back, yes, how did you guess, my great looks and intelligence?  No it was your "eh" or "aboot"  lol

CanadaGoing to miss Canada

I love cold weather!! here in Managua Nicaragua, its hot and hot for half the yr..then the other half is hot and wet,lol  I went back to Saskatoon in February and was greeted with -50C with wind chill temps for a few days---loved it!!  -10C would have been far better, lol   Off to Quito Ecuadoe this summer and the high temps is only around 25C and gets very cool (not freezing)   Can't wait.

San Diego has great temps all yr round as well!  Was liek our 2nd home when I was in the Cdn Navy! Lots of great stuff to see and do as well.

This dog is NOT originating from Canada--totally different procedure.

CanadaContinue to work in Canada after approval

You can do it for the rest of your life if you so wish!!  You wil stil be deemed a non-resident of Canada and I believe NOT entitled to Health care. Fellow Cdn VJ'er Neiks has done this for a few years.  And I know she has discussed it on here--so if ytou search out her posts, you should find a lot of info

CanadaLeave Bags at Tim Hortons?

I'm not sure, I just know it was around back in 2004 and have read on VJ others recently using it.  I know back in 2004 I was at the Timmys by the Embassy, and don't recall any lockers, mind you, I was not looking, for some reason I think its a small restaurant????

CanadaLeave Bags at Tim Hortons?

Dress at the Embassy, is very casual, yes some wear suits, but otherwise it is very casual. Many just wear casual pants and a collared shirt

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-07-05 15:39:00
CanadaLeave Bags at Tim Hortons?

There is a place by the embassy that one can rent a locker!!  You won't be able to leave anything at the embassy

CanadaVisiting my husband

My 2 cents are down below in my signature.  Yes you hear about people being barred, having huge hassles---Why??  Good chance they were LYING, or not quite telling the truth!  and yes sometimes one does run into an in-experienced border guard!  Very simple--TELL THE TRUTH!!!   Many of us, including me, visited the USA a lot during the process.  Treat the POE officer with respect, good chance he/she will do the same, and the onus is on YOU to provide the proof of ties that you will be returning.  I always had them with me, never had to produce them.  Best of luck

CanadaPassport+VISA return in Montreal

This site deals with relationship visas.......A work visa is a whole different situation on how they are handled........You may get the visa the same day......when one is at an airport or landPOE, I believe they can issue work visas on the spot.  Where as with relationship visas--they get couriered back (not same day service)

CanadaWhat happens if denied at interview bc of domicile?

Not it in this case--AP means Additional processing, which is not a good thing!  As you would have to provide them with additional evidence, and once they are happy, then theywould issue the visa. And as your well aware, things tend to be a bit slow,, so its not as if they get the new evidence on Monday and issue the visa a few days later!!

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-07-09 13:36:00
CanadaWhat happens if denied at interview bc of domicile?

Yep what Niki stated!!  What others have done is the USA Citizen then heads back to the USA sets up shop and then sends back the evidence to Mtl. Hopefully it doesn't come to that!!

CanadaCanadian Girl and American Boy want to live happily ever after

Kathryn I keep having people tell me that they know people who live in the US and come back for healthcare.  I keep saying that's not allowed, and they keep saying "well, everyone does it so there is probably a way around it" - and imply that I should find that way and use healthcare.  I don't think there IS a way around it if you live in the US.  I am SO tired of being told that other people do it all the time.  It drives me up the wall!!!! ARGHHH!!!

Yes there are people that do it and have been getting away with it. I know a few years back BC was well aware of this (was in a CBC article) and it was costing the province many many millions of $$$$ each year.  Not sure what they have done (if anything) to stop and remedy this type of fraud.

CanadaReceived interview date...wait for green card after?

there is a new immigrant fee of $165 you have to pay for the green card to be produced now.  Only applicable to those who will have green cards upon arriving in the USA (not to AOS or K1.)  You can pay it up to a year after you POE, but it's advisable to pay it before you go so the USCIS will hopefully start working on your green card asap.  Only took 1 month to get my green card after POE!

They're fancy now too!  Big electronic strip on the back will all your data in it, you can see the holographic image.  My husband asked me, do you have to carry it, I told him, legally yes.

crazy!!  I rarely carried mine---as its $$$ to get it replaced!!   I lost my wallet soon after I got my greencard  too, lol  luckily someone found it and reported it to my credit card company that he had it!!   After that, Greencard stayed home unless traveling

What immigrant fee did u pay at POE?  I know k1 have to pay $6 or $7 for the I-94 ( I think) dont recall cr-1//ir-1 having to pay anything---I know I never did

You must read different reviews than I,lol  There is no gaurantee how fast the Consulate will release your visa paperwork.  May not be until Monday, Tuesday..................

Why the animosity and hatred? Sorry if you didn't like my question. I was just trying to get advice

No hatred, just very poor forum etiquette to keep posting the same question in multiple posts when you have already started your very own thread.   If you want a better answer----phone the POE that you will be traveling through and ask them. It really does not matter what we say.

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2013-08-04 19:45:00
CanadaMoving Furniture Question

As a Cdn citizen---you have NO legal right to enter the USA.  When you enter the USA at the border or airport--the POE officer makes his decision to allow you to enter right on the spot.......It is not like that for others. For example, Nicaraguans make an appt here at the USA embassy in Managua, pay a fee to do so and they may or may not get a visitors visa. If denied, they are still out that fee which is around $160 usd or so.

As a Visitor to the USA, which you would be, can not bring all your belongings down and store it in the USA.  Could you show up at the border with ur uhaul truck and gain entry??  Very slim chance, but probably not.  I guess your brother if he is an american citizen could try and say it is his, but he would by lying and may have to pay duty on it!
