CanadaTN Visa and Tax Implications

1 wants to ensure your Canadian Insurance would cover you in your situation.  As if they can find a loop hole in not paying out after an accident, they will find it.  As well 1 has to know the regulations for your state and how soon 1 has to change over.

CanadaTN Visa and Tax Implications

Piles of info on the forum I posted----one reports their RRSPs on form 8891 to the IRS....As well 1 has to  notify the institution that is holding ur RRSP's--they sent me a short form to fill out--can't recall what form # it was though.

CanadaMilitary Record -- Canadian Forces

I was actually stil inthe Air Force at the time of my interview, and I got the visa. There was 1 other cdn that was still in at the time of their interview, but MTL would not issue it unitl he released.

correct terminology: MPRR (Military Personnel Record Resume)

CanadaMilitary Record -- Canadian Forces

He is fortunate that he is stil in as that makes things easier.  I got out in 2005, so my brain my be fuzzy on the terminology, but its the document that is like his resume, believe it uses to be called an Unit employment record (UER), no, I think its the MPRR. If you do a search on VJ for Canadian military documents, you will find it, as there have been a few others.  its 0430,no coffee yet, so barely functioning, lol

It is best to phone...Every police force and every RCMP station can do things differently. Some will do it on the spot, some take a few days, some longer..........Ensure the check is completed in ALL names you have used (been married before, changed ur name)  and ensure they used CPIC .  Normally it is the easiest of all documents to obtain

CanadaShould I Purchase Travel Insurance?

I'm sure there are companies that do it..just be honest about ur situation. Sure it may suck forking out the $$$$, but hospitals are NOT cheap. And if you don't have insurance, you pay a lot more than what the insurance company would pay in the same situation!   I only mention that, as a few years back an American was all ticked off that his hospital bill for some type of heart surgery was like $200,000, but if he had insurance, they would have only billed the insurance company, like $50,000--he thought that was so unfair.  Hospital care in the USA is a $$$$ making venture for most hospitals.

CanadaGOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a great Olympics for Canada--Taking Gold in the 2 sports that matter--curling and hockey!!

I wasn't sure our women team would prevail as the Americans had been beating them leading up to the Olympics.......and then be down by 2 in the closing minutes and fight back to tie it!!

Then men had been totally dominant the past 2 games!!  Always seemed top be a swarm of Canucks on the puck!!

Another great day to be Canadian!!

CanadaPlanning to cross the border by car from Toronto to US

One requires a compliance letter from Toyota, check inside ur driver side door or the engine area, as there may be a sticker saying it is compliant.  Some manufacturers don't or won't give u a compliance letter.  When u call up Toyota, ensure u have ur VIN # handy, as they will ask for it.

A list of all ur contents, doesnt have to be complicated, can group things togther (ie clothes, electronics...)  Many times they don't even look at it.

Many people try and get into the USA ASAP--cheaper gas!!

CanadaRSPs - withdraw or keep in Canada?

U leave it alone---no tax consequences.

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-03-04 10:12:00
CanadaRSPs - withdraw or keep in Canada?

Right now the cdn $$$ sort of sucks, so it may be best to just leave it alone if u do not need the $$$.  I had to inform my Cdn financial institution when I left Canada--they sent me a short form to fill out. All I had to do Canada wise (dont have to file Canadian taxes each yr because of those RRSP's)

USA wise all one has to do is fill out form 8891 each yr!  Uncle Sam is not going to tax them (if ur leaving them alone)  Someone stated some States may tax you, but I can't confirm that. I know Virginia didn't tax me!!

Always ask at http://forums.serbin...ewforum.php?f=2

CanadaWas I supposed to receive my medical results back after K1 interview?

You probably could have asked for a copy at the Medical.  I'm an RN and I know at the hospital (in the USA) people ask for their reports and we hand it over (once they sign the paperwork)  I watched my Dr back in 2004 (in Halifax) and it wasn't much, he asked the questions, and checked the boxes--very basic physical.

CanadaWas I supposed to receive my medical results back after K1 interview?

The $300 is paying the doctor and his staff, as he isn't getting paid by the province.  Just a few pages of paper!!

CanadaConcerned about husband's visit

Probably more along the lines they have to deal with people lying, and hearing their excuses, and by chance, you get that POE officer having a bad day!  And we all have bad days.  I'm always surprised how so many people on  this forum cut them down, it may seem they have a very easy job, just sitting at a desk, but in that very short interaction period, they have to make a decision if your telling the truth or lying.  I would hate to be the POE officer that let in a known terrorist that caused a great deal of pain to families.

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-02-26 05:54:00
CanadaConcerned about husband's visit

I think it boils down to a few things, 1) the POE officer and 2) how one handles them self. Show respect (yes sir/no sir/no maam/yes maam)Look at them when talking, confident in ur short replies, all goes a long way.  Take the Immigration paperwork with you--but don't hand it over unless asked, or if he thinks it would help  his case. Been others that have gotten for a lot longer period

CanadaPros and Cons of getting US Citizenship as a Canadian

I consider myself to be the proudest of the proud Cdn Citizens......Cdn Tattoos, nearly 15 yrs in the Cdn Military, wore Cdn socks to my Naturalization ceremony (respectfully hidden)  Having American Citizenship, does not make me any less Canadian. And America is a Great country, with a lot of great people. I'm around Americans everyday, they know I'm Cdn as I don't hide that.  There ca be some draw backs, but when one starts to investigate the + outweigh what some would say are -'s  Each their own!  My wife is a very proud American, I love her to death, so it can't be that bad,lol   Plus like someone stated above, it is important to be able to vote and cast your say in elections--If you don't vote, you can't complain!!  And many Allied Soldiers, workers, civilians have died so we can enjoy these freedoms.

CanadaMoving back to Canada - Border Questions

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-03-27 11:32:00
CanadaMoving back to Canada - Border Questions

Make a list of all the goods coming back with you before you get to the border.  It can be fairly general such as "1 box kitchen ware" and list furniture and more expensive items such as electronics.   Include an approx value of the items you list.   If you are bringing anything at a later date, make a separate list of these goods (goods to follow).  Although you have already resumed your residency in Canada but have yet to make a declaration of your used goods coming back - (called a B4 form) you should be fine with bringing your goods back without having to pay any taxes.  Just explain it to the Border Officer exactly what happened.   Unless you have really really expensive and brand new goods then you should not have any problems.  Good luck!

What do u know Neiks!!  You think you are some kind of expert or what, lol  (lots of sarcasm)

Canadarecheduling CR-1 interview

1 reason why some feel it necessary to change---the Spouse can't be at the interview.  Maybe nice for sentimental reasons, and support, but thats about it~  Canada is not a high fraud country, so the spouse is not expected to be at the interview. Mine wasn't--they did ask, and I said she was at work. The interview--if you have all your paperwork in order, is normally the easiest part of the whole process.  Majority of the time spent at the consulate, is waiting.    The people that do run into some issues are ones that don't have all thier paperwork (some make a post here on VJ, and list what they are bringing--so people can double check it) and others that were born or lived in a country that is not on good terms with the USA.  And some that have high tech degrees that deal with chemicals, lol   Best of luck

Flames9_RNMaleCanada2014-04-06 07:33:00
CanadaProcess Started

Make sure u are reading stuff on k1 and not Cr-1 as they do differ.  As others have stated, Apply for Ei right away...but you won't get any $$$$ until you get your EAD. As well After u enter the USA..You can NOT leave until u get advance parole (AP) or the greencard!  Not even to Canada!  Well u can leave..but u may not get back into the USA!!  Best of luck

CanadaRetirement in Canada - some things to keep in mind

That arrticle doesn't really apply to us "normal Canadian citizens"  One that grew up here!  What they are looking out for is fraud as it is well known that some of these immigrants coem here and leave--yet find loopholes on how to gain Cdn citizenship!  So those people that do it honestly and legally--can thank those that have not been!!

CanadaK 1 Visa - Ottawa, Ontario

1 really can't say if many do or don't have issues to be honest, as only a small fraction find their way to VJ.Been here on VJ since 2004 and  If I had to guess--more gain entry than don't!  I have 1 cousin that has been doing it for years now and 1 would think she would get stopped, but never has. Even has a baby now and the father is in the USA.  So who knows!  All comes down to the POE officer.  Have evidence, never lie and don't start making a big scene--your not going to win.

1 CAN still visit the USA...Many do with no issues, but some have troubles. My 2 cents is down below in my signature.  Just never Lie!!    And my Wife, gf, fiance, and then wife, visited me in Canada a lot as well!  Is it guaranteed entry for both of you, no it never is--as only citizens have the right of entry--thus always bring proof of ties to ones country.

I nor my wife ever submitted any of our stocks/bonds that I can recall of--just the banking info.  Best of luck
