CanadaMarried in the US not sure what to do
Sit down and READ VJ!! Lot of FREE info here. At the top of each forum are stickies with piles of great info. Lawyers do NOT speed up the process. For simple cases, which the majority are, they are $$$$$ proof readers. YOU still have to gather all the required documents (long form birth cert., police check, etc etc) and you have to give them the required information. They have NO clue what your birthday is,lol so guess what, YOU end up filling out the forms, and they proof read them. We used a lawyer (had not found VJ) and she cost us $2500 plus filings. Oh well!

CanadaMarried in the US not sure what to do
As others have stated, you can go the AOS route, BUT don tleave the USA until you have achieved AOS or obtained Advance parole (AP) Leavign the USA is no proble, BUT the problem may be reentering the USA!!

OR

you could immediately start the k3 or cr-1 process. But if you are able to stay in the USA (no obligations back in Canada) then AOS is probably best. I do believe you are unable to legally work in the USa at this time. Best of luck, and welcome to VJ

Im not certain on the whole story, but they had problems trying to immigrate to Canada, so this process has been going on for a few years

Canadaneed advice on fastest process
Since your both together now, why not try and find a good immigration attorney and see what they have to say. Many offer free consults. So maybe see 2 or 3 different ones and see what they say. if they all say the same thing, its a good chance its workable. Best of luck

I had a Canadian military buddy posted down to Washington State a few years back and he owned a regular GMC pick up truck. For the longest time he would only do 50 mph because they had signs stating "trucks maximum 50 mph" Of course they meant the big semi trucks, lol

. . . and any Canadian who truly believes that Canada is superior to the U.S. in every way is gravely mistaken.

What a very interesting statement! So, you expect Canadians are to think the opposite? That if Canada isn't superior than the US, than the US is superior? Why does it have to be a competition?! Why not just recognize that there are differences and accept that? Why do you have such a problem with allowing Canadians to be Canadians and to love their country? Why do you feel the need to keep trying to tell us we are wrong for valuing our country, our heritage , our identity and say we are supposed to prefer the US? (Hmmm, were you the speech writer for General Hull back in 1812 in one of your previous incarnations trying to 'save us' from our delusions? sad.gif ).

good.gif

that is what I was trying to say.. you said it much better then me... blush.gif

I get the feeling on VJ sometimes that every other country is allowed to talk about how great their home country is except the Canadians... unsure.gif

CanadaHow Canada Stole the American Dream
lol, always funny these discussions. everyone has their OWN opinions and they are entitled to them. I dont see why some people get so upset when someone states their opinion. Everyone has their own experiences. Some people love the country they are in from, visited, etc, so be it. Always funny how these posts dont have the intention of bashing one country, but seem to head in that direction. The Mclean article was interesting, but again their "facts" could be manipulated to fit their needs. What it boils down it was interesting reading, and most know it just that. Hope everyone had a good Canada day and July the 4th. And how about the Roughriders, 2-0 baby!!

LOL - that is funny. I'll check on my next drive through town.

Actually Hubby and I were in line at the drive-thru once at that Timmies, and there is a Shell next door, and this lady drove away from the pump with the pump still in the tank. It ripped the hose and nozzle right out of the pumps. It was hysterical. I hope they made use of the dryer in Timmies if they got dirty.

Last time I had a timmys donut I had 1 bite, and threw the rest in the garbage.

Ya Wendys bought timmies, last I heard they were thinking of selling them to make some $$$$. In some oplaces you will find a timmies and a Wendy's sharing the same restaurant space.

OMG...I'm sitting here, freaking out to Bo on the phone that I need to find a decent cup of coffee in Raleigh, and you threw out the Tims..*passes out*

When I drove to Maine to get Bo back in March, I stopped at the US Tims...I swear, everything is bigger..their lg is our extra large, and their donuts tasted better!
I wonder if I could make the money back opening one up in NC? lol

I worked there for 4 years...woo don't miss that, but I just couldnt give up the coffee..

Bo thinks I overreact when i talk about Tims and how much I'm gonna miss it, now I can show him just how many people agree with me!

<3 Jen

I have been to a few of the RI stores, and they do not taste the same. And for hot coffee they have no XL, just a large, which is the same as canada's XL. Its sort of a crappy value as Dunkins XL is much larger than Timmy's large, and they are about the same price. The one Timmy's in Newport is close to a Starbucks and a Dunkin. In the mornings I have witnessed huge line ups at the dunkins drive thru, and the Timmys is vacant!! I'm probably heading back to RI in Mid Aug, and I wont even bother stopping at Tims.

And I did smell the coffee prior to throwing it out, and it didnt smell fresh!

NEVER have they asked for my passport, so I didnt hand it over. Of course this time she wanted it.

And since you don't need a passport to travel over land, what would she have done if you didn't have a passport? Did she see it and then want to look at it, or how did she know you had one?

On another note, I was once comming to Canada on a visit for a week and they asked me (since I was on a Green Card at the time) how long I was away. I looked at the customs guy and said, "I'm comming to visit Canada for a week". Think he just automatically was thinking all Canadians were visiting the US and the standard question is how long was your trip. It was kind of amusing when I told the guy how long I was visiting rather then how long I was away, he had kind of that embarrased look and then just let me through...

I was flying. No, she never saw it, I left it in my back pack. I was interested in seeing if she would ask for it, as in the past I have handed over my passport and they never even open it up.
