CanadaDeposit a canadian check in a US bank
At first wachovia would hold the funds, but after a bit (once they knew me) the $$$ was released pretty quick. But was far less of a hassle to deal with Customhouse.

CanadaDeposit a canadian check in a US bank
It all varies on the easiness, and it even varies from the same various branches from the same bank company!! Soem banks wil charge you a fee. soem wil give you a crappy exchange rate, some will do both, so best to ask before they start doing the transaction! Thats why I kept a cdn bank account open, left my Cdn bank card with my folks to deposit cdn cheques, and started using Customhouse.com to exchange $$$.

CanadaConnecting to other CDNs who moved to the U.S.
there is a form one CAN (does not have to) fill out, I can't think of it off the top of my head, but Im sure Cassie will chirp in with its name, lol I didnt fill it out, and from a few other tax forums I visited in the past, they said dont bother filling it out, but Cassie's tax dude said it should be filled out. On your Canadian income tax, there is a spot on the front page that asks when you ceased to be a Cdn resident, and thats all I did. There is a place on the Canadian gov't webpage that you can register and place your new american address. To do that, one requires some information from your past Cdn income tax papers (asks for an $$ amount from a certain line #) Very easy process. http://www.canada.gc.../intro-eng.html Epass is the name!!

Mtl will cancel the visa, and ur to start back at square 1! They promised next time --in approx 9 months--they will ask for a signature!!
congrats

CanadaGeneral Montreal Questions
One can catch the bus from the airport to the consulate AND back for like $24 a person!! the bus drops and picks you up from the downtown train station, AND then one can catch a FREE shuttle to most downtown hotels!

And as you can see, there are plenty of shuttles. Thats what I used, and it was top notch service at a much lower price than a taxi.

CanadaQuestion re. police report
It all varies where one lives in Canada, many RCMP agencies still do police back ground checks as do LOCAL police forces. Does he have a police station close by? if so call them and ask if they conduct background checks, and ensure the search is conducted CANADA WIDE (should stay that right on the certificate) if he has ever had a criminal record, he will need fingerprints. NO criminal record = NO fingerprinting, just the canada wide search

CanadaCustom House Users
I always got a better rate with CH. I would phone the bank (wachovia) and ask what the exchange rate would be, and CH always came out ahead. As well my parents gave me a chunk of change few yrs back, they went to their bank (bank of montreal) and asked what their exchange rate was and came out ahead as well. I'm sure it may not always be the case. Customer service is great at CH. I now transfer $$$ both ways. So when I come to canada, I tx $$$ to my Cdn account.

guess one just has to sit down and list the positives and negatives of each job. not an easy decision. With the ever rising cost of gas, groceries, etc, how much $$$ are people going to keep paying for entertainment (soccor) So in the long run, maybe there isn't as much stability in a professional soccor league. Of course I know very little about soccor, lol

There's a spell check on here? unsure.gif

dream job, I guess, but one has to thing about stability as well. I don't follow soccer, so I have no clue how the fan following is. But one has to think long term. Would you be happy at the State jobe? Better benefits? long term? promotions? Tough decision, best of luck

CanadaWhat NOT to say to a USA border Agent!
So I was returning to DC from Saskatoon on Wed. So was my turn to go to the next stall for USA Immigration. Lucky me gets this crusty chick, and I just knew she was a grump, lol and I probably didnt help myself. So I get to her booth, hand her just my Greencard. NEVER have they asked for my passport, so I didnt hand it over. Of course this time she wanted it. So she takes the passport and looks it over with a fine tooth comb, looked at every page. Then she asked where I was coming from?? I explained Canada. She asked why i was in Canada? I stated "I'm Canadian" lol which wasnt the answer she wanted, lol She in a very bitchy tone stated "now that doesnt answer my question, does it? lol, I said I guess not, sorry, I was visiting my folks!,lol Again she looked over my passport and greencard, taking her time, then stamped the boarding pass, and I was on my way.

Check out this forum: http://www.visajourn...p?showforum=130

That's for people in your situation, adjusting status from visitor. As others have mentioned, DON'T LEAVE the US, not even once after your marriage for even a few minutes or you'll have to go a different route i.e. K3 or CR1 where you'll have to wait outside of the US for months and months. Wait until your AOS and AP goes through before you leave if you can. It'll make it much quicker and easier on yourself if you do.

if one does end up going the k3 or cr-1 route, you still have the chance of visiting ur USA spouse. Many do travel to the USA while the visa is pending, I traveled to DC monthly with no problems, but a few do get stopped at the border and told to head back to canada!

But if ya AOS, DONT LEAVE until you have the paperwork completed!!!!!

Sit down and READ VJ!! Lot of FREE info here. At the top of each forum are stickies with piles of great info. Lawyers do NOT speed up the process. For simple cases, which the majority are, they are $$$$$ proof readers. YOU still have to gather all the required documents (long form birth cert., police check, etc etc) and you have to give them the required information. They have NO clue what your birthday is,lol so guess what, YOU end up filling out the forms, and they proof read them. We used a lawyer (had not found VJ) and she cost us $2500 plus filings. Oh well!
