CanadaHPV vaccine question
Probably depends who the Dr's get their information from as well. They may talk to one USCIS rep and be told this, whule another DR talks to another Rep and gets told that, lol no different when you call and speak to someone at the consulate or USCIS!! Everyone seems to interpret information their own way, easily done with medical situations. Some Dr's personal beliefs are high for vaccinations, some are not, and they allow their personal beliefs to play a role in their decisions! I'm sure when a consulate worker sees a memo from the Dr stating this person can't have the shot, they say ok, he is a Dr!! Like anything else with this process, nothing is concrete.

CanadaHPV vaccine question
What about vaccinating boys and men?

We do not yet know if the vaccine is effective in boys or men. It is possible that vaccinating males will have health benefits for them by preventing genital warts and rare cancers, such as penile and ####### cancer. It is also possible that vaccinating boys/men will have indirect health benefits for girls/women. Studies are now being done to find out if the vaccine works to prevent HPV infection and disease in males. When more information is available, this vaccine may be licensed and recommended for boys/men as well.

Been many a horror lawyer story on VJ. Best to take time and educate yourself on the process. Same goes for Guardasil, dont just jump on the band wagon and say its bad because some person on an immigration forum said it bad! Go to legit sites and make an informed decision! Wiki is not a legit site, lol

u don't pick cats---they pick u!!! and u dont own a cat, they own u,lol We have 1 dog and 2 cats
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-10-25 11:42:00
CanadaOT question
Yes greyhounds can be great apartment dogs. We almost adopted one from a rescue organization. The one thing that kept us back was that we have 2 cats and 1 was a kitten, and the greyhounds instinct is to kil small prey, lol We did a fair bit of research on the topic, bought books. Even if they say the greyhound is 'cat safe' its not a for sure thing! 1 lady that has had greyhounds for many years stated we were probably better off with a different breed of dog. They do not require that much exercise, we were told 2-30 min walks a day! And yes they are the biggest slackers inside, sleep and sleep! But keep in mind they do take a bit of training. Since most of their lives, has been spent at the track or in cages, they are not used to do simple things as going up stairs. And it takes a bit of time for their personality to come alive. but they are great dogs and very affectionate. And they tend to have very few genetic problems! As well there are some medicine that one can give to "normal" dogs, but are deadly to greyhounds! As well, there tends to be greyhound groups that meet and allow their dogs to socialize with other greyhound. They are an amazing animal! I used to know of a sitr that helped u pick a suitable dog. You answered a bunch of questions, and out plopped a list of possible suitable dogs! Im sure one could google it. But im soon out the door.

CanadaOT question
Shelties are work dogs, but they dont require huge amounts of exercise like some of the "working dogs" Good with a 1 bedroom apart?? demands how often u go out for walks and exercise them!! in 99% of the cases a cat is better suited for an apartment!! but again depends how active you are. And a sheltie does require company, they are attached more so to the owner than other people! My sheltie could careless about other people, lol but an extremely tight bond with his owners!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-10-24 07:58:00
CanadaOT question
I love Shelties!!!! I had one,and stil sorta do,lol!! But my parents now have him. Military course went longer than expected, during that time my parents looked after him, and when the time came for me to get him back, they had bonded soo strongly with him, that it was unfair for me to take him back!! I love shelties for their personality, they are more focused towards the owners, where as some other breeds want everyone to love them, not soo much with a sheltie. Simba is on the bigger side for a sheltie, was around 30 lbs, you see a lot of very small shelties, and many have bred them that way. Originally they were bigger, as they had to survive a rougher terrain and they are a herder! They can be a bit yappy!! I trained Simba to be quiet, BUT my parents never enforced that and at times he does get yappy again! He excelled at agility training and other dog training classes I took him too, they are a very smart breed. They are rescue organizations out their as well, just google it In my opinion they are the #1 breed, lol but they are not for everyone, again do research and see their traits/characteristics

CanadaUS citizenship anyone?
QUOTE (Carlawarla @ Nov 7 2008, 07:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I have to obtain at my earliest, my US citizenship for my husband's employ. Period. At first, I was told by his employ that I HAD to renounce my Canadian citizenship. We can all bander about all we want about whether or not we want dual, but can you imagine how I felt knowing I might have to officially renounce it??? I was SO angry! Anyway, because of this, I started to look at how I would have to do this, and it's very convoluted.

First, you have to make written application, and you HAVE to appear in front of a JUDGE, IN Canada. HE/SHE gets to determine whether or not your application gets approval, and I can't remember right now what the reasons are, but I could frankly say that from what it looked like to me, no one in VJ would EVER be given the right to formally renounce their citizenship. This is NOT taken lightly at all. This is NOT an everyday occurrance. Secondly, you can't just say, I don't want it because I don't want it...*sigh* You CAN'T have your citizenship renounced because you are GOING to be another citizen from another country. All it means is that the other country won't recognize it.

You will NOT be allowed to renounce your citizenship if you're not already a citizenship of another country. Not on the promise of it, not on "while I"m going to get it eventually...". You CAN'T be in limbo with no citizenship.

Sorry if I sound like I"m ranting, I kind of am. I had to seriously look at what I was going to do. My whole life I felt was on the line. Gene was SICK...SICK thinking I would have to choose. Call me a traitor, but I would have chosen him. I will ALWAYS be a Canadian in my heart, no matter what any damn papers say but no one was going to keep Gene and I apart.

Anyway, after all was said and done, I can have dual, which is what I'm going to do, and what I was prepared to do anyway.

I was told I can't have a CDN passport, and will have to do an interview with her employer! whatever, lol
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-11-07 07:49:00
CanadaUS citizenship anyone?
Some of us have no choice. All I can say about that, lol

There are other benefits to being a USA citizen. Yes when u do the oath you state u renounce all ur loyalties to other countries, BUT Canada doesn't recognize that!!
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-11-06 21:28:00
CanadaUS citizenship anyone?
Yes, will have dual. Actually had my USa citizenship test/interview a few weeks back and passed, BUT their was an 'extra" fiel on my case, and they had to get the file and see what it is, before I can do the oath ceremony. At the Fairfax VA office, they do the interview/oath the very same day! So I'm in a holding pattern until they see what that extra file is. i have u hunch its the k3 the lagged WAY behind my cr-1! I'm in no hurry at all, so not a problem. Some people are forced to go the USA citizenship, due to their spouses employment. As well no more dealing with USA immigration, lol Which in reality isn't that bad, I wasn't one to sit and check my case to see if it had touches, things happen when they happen, lol Maybe my attitude would be different if it took years to complete.
If you plan to get a federal job many (not all) require you to be a USA citizen. And if you plan to goto school and want to get scholarships many state as part of the criteria, you have to be a USA citizen. Their are many + and - of each. I may be a USA citizen, but for me, its only a "paper" thing, I will ALWAYS be a Canadian and will ALWAYS refer to myself as Canadian, not dual, not American, but Canadian!

Thought I read on VJ that someone had the stickers, BUT was told at POE they required the letter. Most of the automobile makers dont charge ya for it. Nissan faxed it to me for free in 5 minutes! I ened up selling the car at a HUGE loss, should have just kept it.

CanadaVISA IN HAND!!
congrats
Flames9_RNMaleCanada2008-11-09 10:26:00
CanadaVisa in hand... now what?
Yes you have 6 months to "activate" it. At the POE you will hand over the mysterious brown envelope that u can't open! They will ask you some questions, may fingerprint you, may even take ur pic.

You want to go visit family and NOT activate it, well that is up to the POE officer.

The date the IRS considers u a resident I believe is the day you activate the visa. As well the expiratory date of your greencard will be the same date, of course a few years down the road ,lol My greencard arrived in the mail approx 1 month after the POE

The tax thing isnt that difficult, really it isn't. To exclude foreign income (Canadian) (up to a certain amount, think it is around $80,000) one fills out form 2555. To include any RRSP's its form 8891.

I entered the USA on Dec 17 2004. taxes were not that hard.

Poor puppy AND puppy mommy! I hope the stress ends (or at least gets better) soon!

I wanted to add... I'm a pharmacy tech and there are some cases that prescriptions can be filled early. Since it's BC and not a controlled substance, it wouldn't hurt to call the pharmacy and see if they can talk to the insurance about an override, if you use insurance for your medications. If you don't have insurance, the pharmacist might okay an early fill since you are out. Just a thought! smile.gif

or u can call ur DR and see if he has any FREE samples of the same stuff u are using!!

First off, it depends what state you are moving in. Some will just do the transfer with no other requirements, some will require only a written test (like in Illinois) and some will make you do it all. It's really a state specific thing.

only a written test in illinois?! woohoo! i had read about it and thought so, but thanks for confirming it. kicking.gif

(realize this is coming from someone who almost RAN SOMEONE OVER during her first driving test... and clearly failed... though, i swear, that guy ran in front of my car! laughing.gif)

Did ya ask the examiner how many points ya got for hitting him? lol Thats 10 points, would have been 20 points had he been wearing a leafs Jersey!!

Yes it is a bit different down here which I find weird!! Americans tend to support their active military people a lot better than Canadians do. So one would think they would be more supportive of their veterans, which I dont find thats the case. Canada isn't a super power when it comes to the military, but we have an awesome military tradition, especially considering how small of a military we have, but along the way,it has racked up some amazing accomplishments.

Yesterday at the hospital, I was working in an area that had a TV on, and for awhile it had the ceremony on, but the channel was soon changed as people did not want to watch it!
